Help with localization of a unicode .properties file

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting anything.  I've googled like crazy but can't find an answer but if this is a repeat just forward me on along to the right spot!
I'm using Flex Builder 3 for this project.
We have several .properties files set up that we're converting to Russian.  I have the file set as UTF-8 encoding.  I use the mxmlc command to convert this to a SWF just like we do for our other languages.
%flex_location%\mxmlc -locale=ru_RU -source-path=%viewMap_resource_sourcePath%\locale\{locale} -include-
resource-bundles=collections,containers,controls,core,effects,skins,styles,ViewMapBundleSt ringResources
-output %onefourtwo_loc%\core\framework\NxFramework\bin-
debug\locale\strings\ViewMapBundleStringResources_ru_RU.swf
In the code, I call something along the lines of:
toolBar.title = ResourceManager.getInstance().getString(
'ViewMapBundleStringResources', 'VIEW_SELECT_TOOLBAR_TITLE');
this works for every other language, but none of our other languages are Unicode.  In this case, I get null back as the title.
Any idea what could be going on here?  It seems like something is lost in the conversion from the properties file to a swf.  Like maybe I need to set the encoding somewhere else?  I've run the copylocale command so I have a russian folder in my flex folders, I'm generating the russian swf file and it has a decent size to it, comparable to the English version, just a little bigger.  I have Russian set as my locale, and my browser is displaying russian for sites like Google.  I'm running firefox although we support IE as well.
Any advice would be helpful, we've been banging our heads on this one for a while!

We actually got this working just in case any one else runs into this, I had it ENCODED to UTF-8, we actually needed to CONVERT it to UTF-8.  We did this through notepad++ and recompiled and everything is working fine now.

  • PLEASE HELP. How do you access properties files in WEB-INF  and classes directory

    We have a war file that needs to access properties files that are in the WEB-INF directory
    of the war file. We also need to load one of the properties files from the classpath.
    However, when we deploy the application ( an ear which inlcludes an ejbjar and a
    war and the libraries both the ejbjar (with a manifest setting the classpath ) and
    war need ) the properties don't get extracted.
    In some of our servlets we are trying to access those files with the path "WEB-INF/foo.properties"
    and we get a FileNotFoundException. Then we check and see that NO properties files
    have been extracted into their appropriate places ( not even those we throw into
    the WEB-INF/classes directory ).
    PLEASE HELP,
    Christian Hargraves

    The file doesn't have to be extracted from the war. For example, you can place
    test.properties into your app WEB-INF and write a simple JSP to see how it
    works:
    <%
    InputStream in = application.getResourceAsStream("/WEB-INF/test.properties");
    %>
    It will return you a zip inputstream if you deployed your application as a .war.

    I try this, but I get a NullPointerException. The file never actually gets extracted
    from the war. Under tomcat and resin this works great ( that's why I am having all
    of the trouble i am having ), but there are absolutely no properties files in the
    extracted directories for WebLogic deploys. only:
    WEB-INF/some_tmp_dir/WEB-INF/lib
    and then some dynamically generated jor file with all of the classes that would normally
    go in WEB-INF/classes ( all except the properties, of course, which are no where
    to be found. ).
    There has to be some kind of setting I am missing. Please don't make me seperate
    these properties files from the war/ear and then put the path to these properties
    files in the CLASSPATH, changing one step to three steps to deploy!!
    I have found a documented bug where you can't even put the properties files in a
    jar file and that bug will never be fixed for WebLogic 6.1.

  • Help: Servlet can't read from properties file

    I am working on a web application running in Tomcat on Linux.My java source file reads some parameters from a properties file (data.properties)in the same directory. This works well in a simple application. However, if it is used in the Tomcat environment, it can't be read by a servlet file (LoginServlet.java). I put both the "LoginServlet.class" and "data.properties" in the following directory: /webapps/myapp/WEB-INF/classes. When I run the web application in Tomcat, the error is "data.properties not found". What is the problem? Do I need to modify my "web.xml" and/or Tomcat's "server.xml"? If so, how to modify them?
    This web application contains a lot of serlets. So I don't want to hardcode the parameters into the servlet codes.
    Any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!:)

    Putting the properties file in webapps/myapp may or may not help.
    My assumption is that you are trying to open the file by brute force, with something like
    InputStream propis = new FileInputStream ("data.properties");
    Properties props = new Properties ( );
    props.load (propis);
    What you want is to have the class loader find a file in the same place as the class file, and give you back an input stream reading from that file, which you can then pass to the Properties.load(InputStream) method. This is called a "resource," and the way to do it is:
    InputStream propis = getServletContext().getResourceAsStream("data.properties");
    // remaining code as above
    This will cause the class loader for the servlet context (a/k/a the Web application) to find the file in the same manner as it might find a class, but instead of treating it as compiled JVM code, and loading it, it simply passes you back an InputStream from which you do whatever you want.
    Cheers!

    1. What I need to do to change language using my created buttons? Can You give step by step to this?
    2. Can I set VO -> Attributes -> Control Hints -> Labet Text to #{sampleBundle.myTitle}. I tried this, but then the label value don't comes from my bundle. Where is problem and what to do?

    Hello,
    Is below method enough to change the locale for Application Module also? I am trying to change the locale using the below code. Messages from UI project changes as expected but Entity labels and error messages from Application Module are still in old locale.
    private void switchToLocale(Locale locale)
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    UIViewRoot root = context.getViewRoot();
    root.setLocale(locale);
    It should... However I must admit that I rarely push the Locale on the model layer, it does not belongs there, even if ADF encourage that pattern, I highly dislike it and do everything in my power to not have it used in my project. Presentation language is, well, a presentation concern, so should be handled in the presentation layer, not the business one. When the model must send an information, it should be using a code and parameters that then get translated by the view.

  • Help with Illustrator Script! Batch convert files including subfolders - please help! :)

    Hello,
    I honestly have tried reading the other answers and researching to try to solve this problem.  I'm sorry for my ignorance in this area.  Please help!!!
    I'm trying to make a script (for Illustrator CS2) that will batch convert several files to PNG files.  The source folder has several subfolders and I need the script to go into the subfolders and convert those files as well.  The destination directory should be an entirely separate folder but with the same hierarchy as the original source folder.
    The script I have been using (that converts just as I need) is below.  The only problem is it doesn't do the subfolders.
    Any help would be so amazingly appreciated!

  • Help with Script created to check log files.

    Hi,
    I have a program we use in our organization on multiple workstations that connect to a MS SQL 2005 database on a Virtual Microsoft 2008 r2 Server. The program is quite old and programmed around the days when serial connections were the most efficient means
    of connection to a device. If for any reason the network, virtual server or the SAN which the virtual server runs off have roughly 25% utilization or higher on its resources the program on the workstations timeout from the SQL database and drop the program
    from the database completely rendering it useless. The program does not have the smarts to resync itself to the SQL database and it just sits there with "connection failed" until human interaction. A simple restart of the program reconnects itself
    to the SQL database without any issues. This is fine when staff are onsite but the program runs on systems out of hours when the site is unmanned.
    The utilization of the server environment is more than sufficient if not it has double the recommended resources needed for the program. I am in regular contact with the support for the program and it is a known issue for them which i believe they do not
    have any desire to fix in the near future.
    I wish to create a simple script that checks the log files on each workstation or server the program runs on and emails me if a specific word comes up in that log file. The word will only show when a connection failure has occurred.
    After the email is sent i wish for the script to close the program and reopen it to resync the connection.
    I will schedule the script to run ever 15 minutes.
    I have posted this up in a previous post about a month ago but i went on holidays over xmas and the post died from my lack or response.
    Below is what i have so far as my script. I have only completed the monitoring of the log file and the email portion of it. I had some help from a guy on this forum to get the script to where it is now. I know basic to intermediate scripting so sorry for my
    crudity if any.
    The program is called "wasteman2G" and the log file is located in \\servername\WasteMan2G\Config\DCS\DCS_IN\alert.txt
    I would like to get the email side of this script working first and then move on to getting the restart of the program running after.
    At the moment i am not receiving an error from the script. It runs and doesn't complete what it should.
    Could someone please help?

  • Need some help with DNG and error parsing the files

    Ok, so I found out that I can't open NEF files with CS2 from my Nikon D3100 - unless I upgrade to CS6, or use the DNG converter.  I did download the DNG converter that came with the Camera RAW 3.7 (for CS2) in one of Adobe's links, but when I try to convert the NEF files, the DNG converter says "There is an error parsing the file".   If it helps, I have Windows 7.  Is there a different version of the DNG converter I should be using?  Thanks!

    A simple Google search will find it.  For some reason it isn't on the Adobe website.  If you upgrade to CS6 you'll find much improvement in your raw conversions.

    From Excel save your file out as either CSV or TDT from the drop down 'save as' options. Once you have a plain text file script will be able to read the text file using which ever delimiter best suits you and create an array of string variables that you can use within photoshop to assign to the contents of a text layer…

You've got to set something up on the server to accept requests, get all the data and then save files somewhere and on the client side you've got to make the connection and send the data.

  • Help with creating color schemes in Illustrator file

    I'm repeating a particular background image on each page of a calendar and would like to change its colors on each page. There are 2 gradients in the image which use a total of four different colors. I'm not at all skilled in color theory and was wondering if anyone can please tell me if there's an easy way to come up with harmonious color combinations that I can apply to the original Illustrator file? My shortcut solution would be to convert the color to grayscale and apply a color overlay, but the image just looks flat when I do that. I would prefer to adjust the gradients individually but just don't know how to find compatible colors.
    Here's a preview of the image followed by a DropBox link to the Illustrator file.

    Thanks!

    Couple ideas for you:
    First, try using the color wheel on color.adobe.com.  Select the middle color and add your hex code to the color.  The app will automatically show you analogous colors.  See an example here. You can also experiment with the other color rules in the Color Rule menu (just click on one of them).
    Second, take a look at themes created by others.  If you are looking generally for colors that work well with yellow, you can browse the most popular themes and spot some which use yellow.
    I hope that helps.

    Remove the for loop.
    If you write the vector, it's content will be written too.
    hi
    i am having trouble writing a vector to a file
    Here is my code
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.swing.filechooser.*;
    public class Save
         JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
         public Save(JFrame par, mainCollection col)
         try
    ObjectOutputStream out = new
    = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream
    fc.getSelectedFile().getName()));
         out.writeObject(col.carCollection);
    for(int i = 0; i<
    = 0; i< col.carCollection.size();i++)
    Cars cd =
         Cars cd = (Cars)col.carCollection.elementAt(i);
         Vector v = cd.getModels();
         out.writeObject(v);
    }catch(FileNotFoundException
    ion e){System.out.println("not found");}
    catch(IOException e){System.out.println("IO" +
    " + e.getMessage());}
    Ok now the mainCollection col is from my other class
    mainCollection which has my main vector in it. This
    main vector contains car types which contain car
    models i.e. Ford which contains Falcon. What i need to
    do is copy the whole contents of vector over in one go
    to the file.
    With the code above i am getting IO Exception errors

  • Help with resizing and import a .psd file

    I have a rather large logo that is a photoshop file. I am trying to scale it down in motion to use on a lower third. when I import the file it is large so I basically drag the handles to resize it. When it gets small the edges are very jagged and lok horrible. Is there something that motion needs to see from the .psd file for a clean import? I have also tried exporting the logo as a smaller file size and the resolution still looks horrible.

    encoding is only for character data.  It is not used for byte data.
    ARQ requires message level transactions which is not supported in UDP. That is the whole point of TCP.  It can bedone but you have to design a message accounting system. Performance is not an issue because Get-Content would usually rad the whole file
    into a buffer and spit it out in pieces. The client would just feed the file to the transport layer so performance for reading the file is not an issue. THe buffer acquisition and design of message accounting is where all performance issues will show up.
    In the past the file could be an issue on a large system with slow disks and limited user memory.  We used stream readers because the system gave special attention to stream IO so it would be fast.  Current systems are so fast and so highly buffered
    that direct block read is actually more efficient.  If you want to control memory footprint with scrolling then use memory mapped IO.   In general, the Internet is till not fast enough to beat the modern computer so that is not usually necessary
    Anyway, good luck with your project no matter what you decide to do.  Remember that encoding is only when you want to translate character data between systems or locales. Unicode to ANSI, ANSI to UTF-8...
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Help with Automator - create workflow to move files to dated folders

    If anyone could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    I have no idea how to use Automator, but I think it'd be perfect for this job.
    I want to take a folder of files (images) and move them to separate folders which are named for the dates that the files were created on. So, for instance, I have a folder of ten images. Five were created on November 1st and the other five were created on November 2nd. I want to create two folders on the desktop with the dates in the name (like 20071101 & 20071102) and take the five images from 11/1 and move them to the 20071101 folder and the five images from 11/2 and move them to the 20071102 folder (sorry for the run-on sentence).
    Is this possible with Automator? Is this an easy thing to do?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

    I'm trying to do something very similar. I need to open an image sequence in QuickTime and export them to a mov file. Easy enough, but I would also like to create a new Finder folder and name it with today's date and save the mov file to that new folder.
    What frustrates me is that it doesn't appear you can name Finder folders in any way other than using the Rename Folder action. I was hoping to use today's date that I had copied to the clipboard. Also, I have no experience using AppleScript, so hoping to avoid anything advanced there.

  • Help with getting array values from a file

    Hey ppl. Im doing a programming assignment just now and im completely stumped. I know i can ask my tutor but that will take a week (he is never in) so i was wondering if any of you could help. The basic idea is that you have to store numbers read from a file into an array. The catch is that you are not given the size of the array, you have to discover this by counting the numbers in the file. It terminates when -1 is discovered. This 'count' then states the size of the array.
    I got this done ok and i thought I was on easy street after that. All i had to do was read the numbers into the array but alas its not working. The compiler gives it the ok, but when i run the program i get the following error
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.nullPointerException
    at marks.main(marks.java:48)
    By the way line 48 is as follows
    numbers[index] = Integer.parseInt(infile.readLine().trim());
    and here is the evil program!!!!!
    //Paul Rodger ***MARKS*** 14/1/02
    //A program which takes numbers from a file and enters them into an array.
    //The stream of numbers is terminated when the number -1 is discovered
    import java.io.*;
    class marks
    static BufferedReader keyboard = new
    BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    static PrintWriter screen = new PrintWriter(System.out, true);
    static public void main(String[] args) throws IOException{
    FileReader file = new FileReader("numbers.txt");
    BufferedReader infile = new BufferedReader(file);
    //local Data
    int COUNT;
    double x;
    char ans;
    COUNT=0; // initialising the counter
    //inputs values and calculates the sum
    x = Double.parseDouble(infile.readLine().trim());
    while (x>=0){
    COUNT++;
    x= Double.parseDouble(infile.readLine().trim());
    // display the count
    screen.println("the number of values entered was : " +COUNT );
    // stores numbers in the array
    int[] numbers = new int[COUNT];
    for(int index=0 ; index < COUNT; index++)
    numbers[index] = Integer.parseInt(infile.readLine().trim());
    infile.close();
    Any help is appreciated!

    What was suggested is this -
    prior to this line ...
    int[] numbers = new int[COUNT];insert these lines ...
    file = new FileReader("numbers.txt");
    infile = new BufferedReader(file);An alternative solution, one which reads the file only once, is to do it this way ...
    1. read the numbers and put them into a List (either ArrayList or Vector)
    2. instantiate the array based on the size of List (list.size())
    3. populate the array from the list

  • Hard drive crash need help with new iTunes load and backup files

    I have looked through the posts and not found my situation.
    I had my iPhone synced to a PC computer and the hard drive crashed. I had an extensive library in iTunes, but none of the music was purchased online so I can't simply download it again. It was all from CD's, many of which belonged to friends. I now have an iMac. The music I like is still on my iPhone, but not on my new iMac. When I try to sync the iPhone with my iMac it wants to delete all the music on my iPhone. Is there any way to copy the music off my iPhone first - so I can add it back into my iTunes library?

    Yes, luckily I have been in this situation.
    You can download a free application that will take your music from your iPhone and place it onto your Macintosh HD.
    One of these should suit your needs:
