Help with URL.openStream

Hi,
This small Java program hangs if run on 1.3.1 but not 1.2.2 or some version of 1.4:
import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.security.*;
public class V {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws MalformedURLException, IOExcep
tion, AccessControlException {
        String u = "http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/~angel/a.sh";
        InputStream     inp;
        BufferedReader  dis;
        try {
            int                 i;
            String              s;
            URL                 url;
            URLConnection       urlConn;
            url = new URL(u);
            System.out.println("URL constructor");
            inp = url.openStream();
            System.out.println("stream opened");
            dis = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(inp));
            System.out.println("BufferedReader created");
            //  skip leading html headers
            while ((s = dis.readLine()) != null) {
                if (s.startsWith("<body"))
                    break;
            System.out.println("found <body>");
        catch (MalformedURLException mue) {
            System.out.println("Bad URL: " + mue);
            throw(mue);
        catch (IOException ioe) {
            System.out.println("Error reading from remote: " + ioe);
            throw(ioe);
        catch (AccessControlException e) {
            System.out.println("Access Control Exception");
            throw(e);
}The CGI script is
    #!/bin/sh
    echo "Content-type: text/html\r"
    echo "\r"
    echo "<html>"
    echo "<body>"
    echo "<pre>"
    while true; do
        echo "Hi there"
        sleep 3
    doneAny thoughts?
Thanks,
Angel

what's it hanging after? does it print any of your lines out? You don't need to call connect() on the URLConnection, do you? Maybe not if using openStream().
BTW, is that script going to loop forever? The URL isn't working.

  • Need help with URL Redirect in Sun Web Server 7 u5

    All I am trying to do is redirect to a static URL and for the life of me I can not get it to behave the way I would expect. I am new to Sun Web Server so I am just trying to use the Admin Console to set this up.
    Here is what I'm trying to do:
    Redirect from - http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=2154
    To - http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    Here's what I tried in the console.
    Added a new URL Redirect
    Set the Source to be Condition and set it to: '^/store_id=2154$' (quotes included)
    Then set the Target to: http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    Then for the URL Type I checked Fixed URL
    When I tested with: http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=2154 it did redirect as desired
    BUT
    When I tested with: "http://www.oldsite.com/store/store.html?store_id=5555" it too got redirected to the Target and I can't figure out how this second URL can satisfy the condition to get redirected.
    Any help is most appreciated.

    thanks for choosing sun web server 7
    it is simpler if you just edit the configuration files manually
    cd <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/config/
    edit obj.conf or <hostname>-obj.conf (if there is one for you depending on your configuration so that it look something like)
    <Object name="default">
    AuthTrans..
    #add the folllowing line here
    <If defined $query>
    <If $urlhost =~ "/oldsite.com" and
    $uri =~ "/store/store.html" and
    $query =~ "store_id=2154" >
    NameTrans fn="redirect" from="/" http://www.newsite.com/Stores/StoreFront.aspx?StoreId=2154
    </If>
    </If>
    ..rest of the existing obj.conf. continues
    NameTrans...
    now, you can either do <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/bin/reconfig -> to reload your configuration without any server downtime or <ws7-install-root>/https-<hostname>/bin/restart -> to restart the server
    if it did work out for your, you will need to run the following so that admin server is aware of what you just did
    <ws7-install-root>/bin/wadm pull-config user=admin config=<hostname> <hostname.domainname>
    hope this helps

  • Help with URL Parameters and HTML DataSet please.

    Hello everybody!
    Looking at the example page: "Using URL Parameters to Control Data Regions", towards the bottom it gives an example of "Set by Product Name", from an XML DataSet using the following sample code:
        //Data set for the second example. var ds2 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../demos/products/products.xml", "products/product");    //If the URL parameter 'product' has a value, set the XPath that includes a filter and then load the data. if (params.product){    ds2.setXPath("products/product[name = '"+params.product+"']");    ds2.loadData(); }
    Can anyone please explain how to amend this to work with a HTML Dataset rather than XML?
    The first example on the page (Set by RowID) works unchanged for the HTML DataSet, but I don't know what I should replace the 'setXPath' line with.
    I see this has been asked before, but I'm afraid I can't find any answer that works (or, more often, that I can understand properly!)
    Grateful for any suggestions.
    Len

    Wow! Thanks Ben.
    I hadn't thought about using Stacked Containers.
    I'll test this out tonight and let you know how I get on.
    Cheers,
    Len
    A few days later and at last I've been able to test your suggestions.
    I think I must be doing something wrong as the links and content don't work at all:
    http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/stack1.php
    I know that the stacked containers do work (http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/stack0.php), so I guess there are some errors in the coding somewhere.
    Would you mind reviewing, please?
    The important thing for me (in this case, anyway) is to get the called page's content using its 'Ref', and I'm not sure what benefit there is in using stacked containers as opposed to master-detail containers.
    The master-detail method works reasonably well for me at
    http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/fotoalbum.php and sub-pages.
    Perhaps I am betraying my lack of knowledge, but as I said in my original post, I think that I just need the HTMLDataSet equivalent to:
        //Data set for the second example.
    var ds2 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../demos/products/products.xml", "products/product");
       //If the URL parameter 'product' has a value, set the XPath that includes a filter and then load the data.
    if (params.product){
       ds2.setXPath("products/product[name = '"+params.product+"']");
       ds2.loadData();
    which as you can see uses an XMLDataSet, but does exactly what I need.
    (see http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/DataWithURLParams.html)
    Thanks again for your help, Ben.

  • Need help with URLs (Mamp/Dreamweaver/Apple Lion)

    I'm in the midst of a major upgrade - Apple Leopard > Lion and MAMP 1.x to 2.0.5. I also installed CS3, with Dreamweaver, on my new laptop.
    Anyway, everything seems to be falling in place, except for one major snag - I can't view my web pages in a browser.
    On my old laptop, I have it set up so that I can view each of my websites at a simple URL, like this: http://SL. My sites are stored in a top level folder named Sites.
    I used the settings in my old computer as a guide in setting up a site in Dreamweaver and MAMP/Hosts on my new laptop, but I can't view a page at http://SL. http://localhost/SL and http://localhost don't work, either, whereas http://localhost:8888 prompts a "Forbidden" message.
    However, I can access phpMyAdmin at http://localhost:8888/phpMyAdmin/?lang=en-iso-8859-1&language=English
    When I was setting up the site in Dreamweaver, I got the following error message:
    "Dreamweaver cannot use the prefix you entered to displaly live data. Please double-check your site configuration or click on Help for more information on how to correct this problem. (HTTP Error: 0)." I didn't explore the Help menu immediately, and I can't recreate the error message now.
    I read somewhere that I should put my html folders in the htdocs folder so I tried that with one site, with the same result.
    Anyway, can anyone tell me what I have to do to make a website located at Users > (Me) > Sites > SL display at http://SL?
    Thanks.

    In MAMP Pro setup ports for Apache/MySQL to 80/3306 then setup virtual host in Hosts tab. MAMP doesn't allow extending virtual hosts, only MAMP Pro does that. Are you using MAMP or MAMP Pro?
    best,

  • Need help with url for mx:HTTPService

    I inherited a Flex project and I do not have much experience with Flex.
    I have a mxml file with a HTTPService defined where the url is defined as such
    <mx:HTTPService id="domainFetcher" contentType="application/xml" resultFormat="e4x"
            url="{XXX.xxxPrefix}queries.php" method="POST" result="domainResultHandler(event)">
            <mx:request xmlns=""><ListDomainTree/></mx:request>
        </mx:HTTPService>
    I cannot determine how {XXX.xxxPrefix} is defined. When I make changes on the target web location I do not see the changes. If I remove the {XXX.xxxPrefix} then I do.
    So, it looks like {XXX.xxxPrefix} is pointing to another location that I cannot determine.
    I hope someone can help me with how to find out how the value of {XXX.xxxPrefix} is getting set.
    Thanks

    Use network monitor(it is a feature in Flash builder) to determine the url, also, XXX.xxPrefix? is it a property of the class where this httpservice is defined? I still do not understand what you mean by the following line.. Use debugger to find out whats in the prefix thing. Still your question does not have clarity, may be you should post more code.
    I inherited a Flex project and I do not have much experience with Flex.

    why does my page have these "Å" looking symbols?
    http://www.math.fsu.edu/~trogers/data/photos/Ladies%20Home%20Journal/How%20Ameri ca%20Lives.html
    i put a .htaccess file in the "Ladies%20Home%20Journal" folder with this content:
    AddCharset UTF-8 .html (ok, it was NOT in that folder, i just dropped a copy in there and it seems to be working... no more symbol(s))
    one more question:
    i forgot what the name of that CS/js slideshow stuff i got in there (that downloaded and someone here helped me with long ago!
    is there a way i can fix it so that when you click one of the "thumbnails" is just shows that particular picture larger without starting the slideshow, in other words, so the slideshow ONLY starts IF you click the Start Slideshow image-link?
    TIA

    That happens when servers are misconfigured to force all browsers to use the wrong encoding. Your .htaccess file is one of the proper fixes.

  • Please Help With URL

    Hi,
    so here is my question. My website is ClementHernandez.com and when i open it the URL becomes
    http://clementhernandez.com/YourFrenchDJ/Welcome.html
    Why cant it be just
    http://clementhernandez.com/Welcome.html or just http://clementhernandez.com/
    Thanks

    As Tom has already said you need to publish to a folder from iWeb and download Cyberduck. Once you have done this, open Cyberduck and connect to your host/server, then upload just the contents of your site folder - (YourFrenchDJ) to the public_html folder on your server or whatever folder your are required to upload to and your url will then be:
    http://www.domain.com/Welcome.html.

  • Help in passing parameters along with  URL

    Hi All,
    I have a small web application in which I am passing some details to a servlet along with url.
    http://localhost:8080/Test/orderDetails.do?OID-67856
    When I am checking req.getParameterNames(),I am able to see paramname 'OID-67856'
    in Jboss .But not able to see the same in WAS .What is the exact pattern we need to follow when we pass parameters?
    Do we strictly need to follow paramName=paramValue pattern in order to work this on all application servers?
    It will be great if someone share me any specification documents regarding this .
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks in advance.Well, try turning it into ?OID-67856= (so an empty value) and see if it starts to work on WAS. Would have been a test of a few seconds, posting this question took you at least a minute.
    If even after trying it out you want hard proof, you should check the HTTP specifications (google for 'rfc http').

Try [this constructor|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17409_01/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/FileWriter.html#FileWriter(java.io.File,%20boolean)] (<- link). The documentation is a wonderful thing. ;-)

    - There is no need for two question marks. One '?' means a question, while 2 or more typically means a dweeb.
    - Do your best to [write well|http://catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#writewell] (<- link). Each sentence should start with an upper case letter. Not just the first one.

              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }When Component5 is clicked, i would like it to do this:
              authUsername = component3.getText();
              authPassword = component4.getText();
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame, authUsername);
              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame, authPassword);COuld you implement this into my script, as i'm having lots of difficulties.

  • Need help with getResource() problem under weblogic 6.1

    Hey all,
              I've got a serious problem that I can't figure out. This should be really
              simple - but it's alluding me. I have an ear file with a number of servlets
              inside it. This ear file also contains a resource that my servlets want to
              read from. This resource is located (within the ear file) at:
              "/content/structure/a.txt". The file contains raw ascii.
              To have my serlvet read from this file, I thought it would be as simple as:
              URL content =
              servlet.getServletContext().getResource("/content/structure/a.txt");
              // pw is an instance of PrintWriter
              pw.print(content.getContent());
              However, when I execute the above I get the following exception:
              java.lang.NullPointerException
              at
              java.net.URLConnection.stripOffParameters(URLConnection.java:1011)
              at java.net.URLConnection.getContentHandler(URLConnection.java:979)
              at java.net.URLConnection.getContent(URLConnection.java:581)
              OK, so fine - I figure that I'm new to this. The documentation for the URL
              class tells me there is another way around this. It says that rather then
              calling getContent() directly, I can open a stream on the URL and read from
              that, like so:
              URL content =
              servlet.getServletContext().getResource("/content/structure/scenario2resourc
              es.txt");
              FileInputStream fis = content.openStream();
              but when I do this I get the following different exception:
              java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.utils.zip.SafeZipFileInputStream^M
              at Utility.writeFileToOutput(Utility.java:134)^M
              Apparently this thing is trying to return a web-logic-specific stream (which
              is incompatible with an FileInputStream) - which I don't want to use or
              learn about since I want my stuff to work under other webservers.
              Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? This should be simple.

    Wenjin,
              I appreciate your response. I tried treating it as a normal InputStream -
              but it didn't make any difference. Here's what I did:
              URL content =
              servlet.getServletContext().getResource("/content/structure/scenario2resourc
              es.txt");
              InputStream is = (InputStream)content.getContent();
              And here's the exception:
              java.lang.NullPointerException^M
              at
              java.net.URLConnection.stripOffParameters(URLConnection.java:1011)^M
              at
              java.net.URLConnection.getContentHandler(URLConnection.java:979)^M
              at java.net.URLConnection.getContent(URLConnection.java:554)^M
              at java.net.URL.getContent(URL.java:807)^M
              at Utility.writeFileToOutput(Utility.java:134)^M
              You can see that it is definitely breaking somewhere in getContent().
              If you have any other ideas, I'd appreciate hearing about them.
              -john

  • Help with HP Laser Printer 1200se

    HP Support Line,
    Really need your assistance.  I have tried both contacting HP by phone (told they no longer support our printer via phone help), the tech told me that I needed to contact HP by e-mail for assistance.   I then sent an e-mail for assistance and got that reply today, the reply is as follows  "Randall, unfortunately, HP does not offer support via e-mail for your product.  However many resources are available on the HP web site that may provide the answer to your inquiry.  Support is also available via telephone.  A list of technical support numbers can be round at the following URL........."  The phone numbers listed are the ones I called and the ones that told me I needed to contact the e-mail support for help.
    So here I am looking for your help with my issue.
    We just bought a new HP Pavillion Slimline Desk Top PC (as our 6 year old HP Pavillion PC died on us).  We have 2 HP printers, one (an all-in-one type printer, used maily for copying and printing color, when needed) is connected and it is working fine with the exception of the scanning option (not supported by Windows 7).  However we use our Laser Printer for all of our regular prining needs.  This is the HP LaserPrinter 1200se, which is about 6 years old but works really well.  For this printer we currently only have a parallel connection type cord and there is not a parallel port on the Slimline HP PC.  The printer also has the option to connedt a USB cable (we do not currently have this type of cable).
    We posed the following two questions:
    1.  Is the Laser Jet 1200se compatible with Windows 7?
    and if this is the case
    2.  Can we purchase either a) a USC connection cord (generic or do we need a printer specific cord)? or b) is there there a printer cable converter adapater to attach to our parallel cable to convert to a USB connection?
    We do not want to purchase the USB cable if Windows 7 will not accept the connection, or if doing this will harm the PC.
    We really would appreciate any assitance that you might give us.
    Thank you,
    Randy and Leslie Gibson

    Sorry, both cannot be enabled by design.  That said, devices on a network do not care how others are connected.  You can print from a wireless connection to a wired (Ethernet) printer and v/v.
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP

  • Help with If statement please

    Hi,
    First Special thanks to Kglad for the help with the AS1 to AS3 conversion.
    I've been able to link up my buttons to play a different frames of the movie. this was my novice way of finally getting the programming to work.
    In frame 95 I have
    var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    addChild(myLoader); var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("page1.swf");
    myLoader.load(url);
    in frame 165:
    var myLoader1:Loader = new Loader();
    addChild(myLoader1); var url1:URLRequest = new URLRequest("page1.swf");
    myLoader1.load(url1);
    My buttons link to 116 which plays a frame and loads ^
    in frame 226: removeChild(myLoader).
    But if the user has looped back into home from another part in the movie clip then it would need to remove myLoader1 instead of myLoader.
    I'm guessing there is some really dynamic way to solve the programatic nightmare i'm developing, but I'm really novice.
    So what i need is an if statement for frame 226
    That would do something:
    if(myLoader <> null
         removeChild(myLoader)
    else(
    removechild(myLoader1)
    Anyone have a method for this?

    yes, you can use the same urlrequest but just change its url property:
    // initialize, for example in frame 1.  this is done once and never again:
    var loader:Loader=new Loader();
    var urlR:URLRequest=new URLRequest();
    //  then in frame 2, for example:
    urlR.url="page1.swf";
    loader.load(urlR);
    //  in frame 20, for example:
    urlR.url="page2.swf";
    loader.load(urlR);
    // in frame 30, for example:
    urlR.url="page3.swf";
    loader.load(urlR);
    //etc.  if you're loading any swfs that play streams (sound or video), you'll want to add some code to this.
