Help writting a file without crlf control characters

Hi All,
I have a little trouble when writting a file in UTF-8 format, It's only one string  and this string is writting to a file in UTF-8 format but I need to omitt the CR-LF Control Characters of the file generated.
OS - HP-UX
How can I do  this?
here is the sample code:
DATA: g_cadena TYPE string,
           g_filcad    TYPE string.
DATA: l_len TYPE i,
          l_msg TYPE string.
  CONCATENATE '||A|1|2005-09-02T16:30:00|1|ISP900909Q88|'
              'Industrias del Sur Poniente, S.A. de C.V.|'
              'Alvaro Obregón|37|3|Col. Roma Norte|México|'
              'Cuauhtémoc|Distrito Federal|México|06700|'
              'Pino Suarez|23|Centro|Monterrey|Monterrey|Nuevo Léon|'
              'México|95460|CAUR390312S87|Rosa María Calderón Uriegas|'

              'Nuevo León|México|95465|10|Caja|Vasos decorados|20|200|1|'
              'pieza|Charola metálica|150|150|IVA|52.5||'
        INTO g_cadena.
  l_len = STRLEN( g_cadena ).
  CLEAR g_filcad.
  g_filcad =  '/usr/home/cadena.txt'.
  OPEN DATASET g_filcad
     FOR OUTPUT MESSAGE l_msg IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8.
  IF sy-subrc NE 0.
    WRITE: / 'Message:', l_msg.
    RETURN.
  ENDIF.
  TRANSFER g_cadena TO g_filcad LENGTH l_len.
  CLOSE DATASET g_filcad.

Thanks to all.

  • Need help in setting file name with special characters in attachment

    Hi
    We have a requirement where we need to set the file name that contains special characters (like Russian) and send mauil using Java mail.
    If we set the file name as such, the attachment in the email contains garbled filename
    Can you pl let me know how to resolve this?
    We should use the file name as attachment name and this will have say special characters. The receiver who gets the mail should get with the correct attachment name
    One important point.. the attachments are opened from MS outlook.
    Thanks and regards

    Read the FAQ carefully. You don't need to call encodeText unless you're using a really
    old version of JavaMail.
    And, it depends on whether the mail reader you're using is handling encoded parameters
    according to the (new) MIME standard, or according to the (old) non-standard hack.
    Sadly, without knowing what mail reader the recipient is using, it's impossible to use
    encoded filenames that will work everywhere.

  • Remove control characters in txt file (saved from Excel)

    Hi,
    I have a txt file that contains invisible control characters and I want to remove those characters. I've been thinking of 2 options
    1/ Get the content of the file into a string, then go through each character and basically takes only alphanumeric, new lines, Alt+Enter character (character that is created in txt files in Excel that breaks line). With this approach, I'm stuck on getting the character code for Alt+Enter so if anyone could point out. That helps a great deal.
    2/ Use some pattern matching {ctrnl} or something to remove all control characters. I've tried this approach and it didn't work for me.
    Please help me with this problem. Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

    (saved from Excel) Why not save it as csv?

    You can figure that out with a hex editor or just write a small app that prints int values for each byte, not character, and print the file.
    Presumably you already found the Character class and its methods.

  • AppleScript puts control characters in txt file, inflating it enormously

    Hi all,
    I've come across a strange problem. I have an AppleScript file that puts up a dialog box at regular intervals asking me to write down what I am doing (to create an activity log). The file is saved to my Documents folder. This has been working just fine for several months (years), and now, all of a sudden, AppleScript fails on me. The reason is, the log file is inflated out of proportions because it contains hidden control characters (gremlins) between each letter and zillions of them between words and lines. Opening one of these files makes TextEdit go crazy ('Application not responding'). I discovered these gremlins when I opened the document in Classic mode with Word 5 (the best application ever to have been produced by MS, which allows me to remove them and make the file palatable to TextEdit again).
    But that doesn't solve the problem: Every entry continues to be inserted with another load of gremlins, and I can't understand why. I deleted preferences both for TextEdit and AppleScript, and I performed regular disk maintenance.
    TextEdit is set to save plain text files, end-of-line is Macintosh style, character set is Western Mac OS Roman. It's always been like this before when it worked ok.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hidden control characters in file generated by AppleScript?

    Hi all,
    I've come across a strange problem. I have an AppleScript app (kindly produced for me by a member here) that gets called up by cron, which puts up a dialog box at regular intervals asking me to write down what I am doing (to create an activity log). The log is saved to my Documents folder if it doesn't already exist; otherwise my typing will just get time-stamped and added to the file.
    This has been working just fine for several months (years), and now, all of a sudden, AppleScript konks out on me -- it simply crashes. The reason, I discovered, is the log file itself. It gets inflated out of proportions (something like 2.5 Megs where 40K would suffice) because it contains hidden control characters (gremlins) between each letter and zillions of them between words and lines.
    When the script opens this inflated file, TextEdit balks ('Application not responding'), which in turn crashes AppleScript.
    I discovered these gremlins when I opened the document in Classic mode with Word 5, which allows me to remove them and thus make the file smaller and therefore palatable to TextEdit again.
    But that doesn't solve the problem: Every entry continues to be inserted with another load of gremlins, and I can't understand why. I deleted preferences both for TextEdit and AppleScript, and I perform regular disk maintenance.
    TextEdit is set to save plain text files, end-of-line is Macintosh style, character set is Western Mac OS Roman. It's always been like this before when it worked ok.

    Hi Camelot,
    The script doesn't specify TextEdit -- it just creates/updates a text file which I then read with TextEdit. Here's the script, and below is the link to the test log:
    --STARTOFSCRIPT------------------------------------------
    -- Find out if the log file is actually there.
    -- We can't get the last entry of a file that doesn't exist.
    set fileExists to false
    tell application "Finder"
    if exists file "MacHD:Users:gisela:Documents:Gisela'sActivityLog.txt" then set fileExists to true
    end tell
    -- Get the last entry in the log file to present to the user.
    -- If the file wasn't there, present a default choice to the user.
    if fileExists then
    set myLogFile to open for access ((path to documents folder as text) & "Gisela'sActivityLog.txt")
    set logFileContents to read myLogFile using delimiter return
    close access myLogFile
    set lastLogEntry to last item of text items of logFileContents
    set oldTIDs to AppleScript's text item delimiters
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to tab
    set lastEntry to text item 2 of lastLogEntry
    set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldTIDs
    else
    set lastEntry to "Nothin' much."
    end if
    -- Ask the user what they're doing.
    set myLogEntry to text returned of (display dialog "So... What're you doing?" default answer lastEntry buttons {"OK"} default button "OK" with icon note)
    -- Get the date and time via "Do Shell Script" (for me, easier than mucking with AppleScript's date results).
    -- Modified order to Year Month Day# Weekday hour:min:sec [Gisela]
    set dateUnix to do shell script "date"
    set dateText to word 8 of dateUnix & " " & word 2 of dateUnix & " " & word 3 of dateUnix & " " & word 1 of dateUnix & " " & word 4 of dateUnix & ":" & word 5 of dateUnix & ":" & word 6 of dateUnix & " " & tab
    -- Open a log file on the desktop. The file is created if it doesn't exist.
    set myLogFile to open for access ((path to documents folder as text) & "Gisela'sActivityLog.txt") with write permission
    -- Write a log entry into the file.
    write dateText & myLogEntry & return to myLogFile starting at eof
    -- Close the log file.
    close access myLogFile
    -- Script by Bryan K. Vines, Corpus Christi, TX, via Apple Discussion Forum 22/5/04 and 24/5/04
    --ENDOFSCRIPT------------------------------------------
    Here's the test log => http://www.webalice.it/gisela/TestLog.txt. Had to change the name because my webspace doesn't like apostrophes (').
    This phenomenon only occurs in connection with this Activity log script. My gut tells me it's not AppleScript's fault, but I can't figure out where else to look.
    Kind regards,
    Gisela

  • Removing unwanted control characters in exported text files

    I am currently evaluating Crystal Reports 2008 to determine applicability to our requirements. I need to export data files to continuous text to be read by other application software. I have successfully created the files but have what I believe to be page feed or end-of-page control characters (small rectangles) in the output. Can someone enlighten me as to how I can suppress or remove these control characters?

    In the export to text options enter 0 for the number of lines per page. This will produce an unpaginated text document without the page control markers.

  • Can you write an avi file without using imaq

    Just curious if anybody has tried to write an avi file without using imaq vi's? So far I have only found sketchy info on the file format and am looking for some help on the file structure etc. Any references or example avi files with explanations of format would be most helpfull. Thanks in advance -

    Absolutely.......
    An AVI video file is actually structured in the same way as most Windows media files or RIFF files as they are generically known, thus the description below is applicable to for example WAV files etc.
    Thus the file always begins with the four byte code RIFF and continues to use this generic four byte coding known as FOURCC, four-character code or FCC throughout.
    There are then specific requirements for each different media content and the sections that must be included to define a valid file structure of the desired meadia type.
    Each section or 'CHUNK' is defined by an FCC (RIFF being the first) with facility to include additional FCC's as required. The FCC is followed by a length descriptor and then the data (just for fun the odd CHUNK does not quite fit this very general overview). These chunks then align to even word boundries so padding zeros are often inserted at the end of a CHUNK to make it all nice and neat.
    It is a requirement that software that does not recognise an additional custom CHUNK should ignore it, this is very easy as all you have to do is use the length descriptor to 'jump' over the CHUNK concerned.
    The following is an example from the 'CLOCK.AVI' found on windows computers for a number of years...
    RIFFjB AVI LISTΠhdrlavih8
    Here you can see the RIFF followed by a four byte length descriptor (4 Gigabytes), followed by various sub CHUNKS in this example the sub CHUNK is an AVI (note that it is actually 'AVI ' to conform to the FCC).
    So the CHUNK structure looks a bit like this:-
    RIFF ('AVI '
    LIST ('hdrl'
    'avih'()
    LIST ('strl'
    'strh'()
    'strf'()
    'strd'()
    'strn'()
    LIST ('movi'
    {SubChunk | LIST ('rec '
    SubChunk1
    SubChunk2
    ['idx1']
    For more information on all this you need to read the RIFF specification documentation on the MSDN website or on the MSDN Technet materials. Most of the stuff you will immediately locate will refer to the AVI file format as that is where most of the recent effort has been focused.

  • Rewite file without dialog invoked, using write character.vi

    Hi Is there anyone who knows the answer to my problem?
    The problem is that:-
    I have a file that is generated by write lvm.vi but some of the headers are wrongly written, even though I have used graph's property to correct plotnames.
    So I attempt to read lvm file and correct the headers and rewrite the old file. It works but the problem is that dialog is invoked when false bit is applied to write character.vi 's  append to file? (new file : F). Is there a way to rewite the file without having dialog invoked?
    Your help would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    regards
    Clement

    Hi Dennis
    Thanks
    But there's one I do not understand about lvm files.
    In the attached, there are three files namely daq1, modified_daq1 and res1 files and simple  read lvm file function.
    In daq1.lvm, it is saved by default, it reads ok,  Enable the plot legend and see names. In it there are 16 channels and in "comment" cell, it holds AI=16 & RES=0.
    I saved this value in comment where another subvi will read it later for correct naming of the plots in the graph. This comment has nothing to do with it. Total of channels is 16
    then in res1, it does not read ok. X_Values and others are added to plot names. In it, AI=16 & RES=7. Total of channel is 23
    To test it, I modified the daq1 file  and saved as modified_daq1.lvm. In it,  I changed AI=15 & RES=1. total of Channels remained same. Then i changed Dev0/ai15 to Dev0/res0.
    Then It reads correctly.
    the res1.lvm don't reveal any errors when i studied on it. There's not much any differences except total of channels.
    regards,
    Clement

  • How to restore a control file without having its backup

    Hi,
    Can any one please suggest me how to restore a control file without having its backup.
    Thanks

    To add to what SB said, in years past the instructions for re-creating the control file manually were contained in the DBA Administration manual. It used to be and may still be common to be taking and saving a "backup control file to trace" for this purpose.
    If you lost only the primary copy of the control file and it is an OS file then while the database is shutdown you can copy the secondary over the primary and then use if to start the database. If the control file is stored in ASM then there should be a way to perform the copy via ASM.
    If you use rman for backups then a copy of the control file should be part of the backup process and you can retrieve it from the backup set then perform recovery using the backup control file though I do note the OP said something to the effect no backup exists. Still, I have knows of instances where the DBA did not realize that the backup set contained the control file and the spfile so I think this is worth mentioning just in case.

  • How to write in a file without erase it each time I want to write inside

    Hi
    My problem is to write in a unique file without erasing what I have written inside before.
    Because I use an Applet and I write some information in afile each time the user push a button but I want to keep all the information, beacause in my case I only have the last information i.e. the last time the user push the button.
    My code is:
    Below it is the code where I write in the file:
    writer2 = new BufferWriter("chemin.txt");
    methode = uneMethode;
    eps = unEps;
    n = unN;
    solExacte=uneSolExacte;
    y=z;
    Date time =new Date();
    Vector valeur = new Vector();
    valeur.add(new Double(eps));
    valeur.add(new Integer(n));
    valeur.add(new Integer(solExacte));
    valeur.add(new Integer(methode));
    String time_string = time.toString();
    valeur.add(new String(time_string));
    //writing to variables file
    BufferWriter writer = new BufferWriter("variables");
    writer.write(valeur);
    Now it is the class Bufferwriter:
    import java.io.BufferedWriter;
    import java.io.FileWriter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import java.io.File;
    public class BufferWriter {
    private String fileName;
    BufferedWriter w;
    public BufferWriter(String name) throws IOException {
    fileName=name;
    w=new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(new File(fileName)));
    public void write(Vector v) throws IOException {
    String string;
    for (int i=0; i<5; i++) {
    string=((v.get(i)).toString());
    w.write(string,0, string.length());
    w.newLine();
    w.flush();
    public void close() throws IOException{
    close();}

    try
    w=new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(fileName, true));
    The Constructor you want is ..
    FileWriter
    public FileWriter(String fileName,
    boolean append)

  • Write xmp sidecar files without need to export masters - script

    I've written a script to write xmp sidecar files for referenced and online images (the 2 conditions in the script) of the selected images. I looked for a while at system events and other stuff to be able to write the xmp file, but i'm not a programmer, so in the end i chose the long and dirty way to do it.
    This script will export all iptc expanded fields as aperture does (creating basically the same file). It can be easily adjusted to include other tags, even custom ones. I don't know how to get at the adjustments for images, otherwise those could be included as well.
    If anyone has the energy to clean this up and make it faster, feel free to do so. Next, I'm going to try to write a script to do the opposite, import xmp sidecars for imported online and referenced files.

    Excellent stuff!
    I don't know how to get at the adjustments for images, otherwise those could be included as well.
    They are stored as binary data in the Version XML files at the bottom level of the Library package. You can also have a look around in the ZRKIMAGEADJUSTMENT table, but again the actual settings for each adjustment are in binary form.
    If anyone has the energy to clean this up and make it faster, feel free to do so.
    As far as I can remember, Aperture uses the 'proper' IPTC tag names when accessing them via AppleScript, so you may be able to do a loop through all the IPTC tags for each image, rather than picking out each specific one. But that would need checking. The EXIFTools site is a good place to find out about the different ways that IPTC data can be described.
    Next, I'm going to try to write a script to do the opposite, import xmp sidecars for imported online and referenced files.
    Don't rush unless you feel like it - I've already started planning out a free (as in beer and speech) XMP importer with a GUI so that you can choose how to map the XMP CORE tags that don't exist in Aperture. You've given me an extra idea, though - if we can decide on a set of custom tags, my importer could map the XMP CORE tags to them and your exporter could export those tags.
    Thanks for the work!

    P.S. I'll check through your script tomorrow, some of the database tables changed between 1.5.6 and 2.0, so you might need to add in a version check to be really thorough.

  • How to use vector file without adobe illustrator?? please help

    I am using the free trial period of adobe illustrator to creat a logo.  I don't want to buy illustrator b/c I don't plan on using the program for anything else,  I would like to save my logo in some kind of vector format so I can use it for lots of different printing options.  But I can't figure out how to do this b.c my computer won't open the file without illustrator.  Is there anyway to creat a usable print friendly logo without buying illustrator? Thanks for any help!

    I believe if you export it to wmf or emf you will have a Vector file that can be used in word or powerpoint and can be placed in other programs as can ai files which can be placed in word or powerpoint documents as vector files.
    Flash (swf) is another way of saving it and it is also vector.
    However even though you say you will never have use for Illustrator which is what I thought in 1995 when I use it to create a logo, I soon found more use for it and every year since have found a project that has rewarded me many times the cost of the application once I had purchased it. Most of which I never thought I had the need for and probably would not have even made the attempt to make the effort and the profit if I did not own the license.
    And every time I say to myself what do i have this application for the opportunities arises yet again.
    I thought I would share my experience with you.

  • Is it possible to read/write to text file without deleting it?

    I know how to read from a text file and how to write to a text file. The problem that i have is i need to use a text file to store data for my application to read and also for my application to write. I would like it if i could write two programs really, one reads, the other is used to update the text file. This file is a list of verbs. I thought about using databases but i couldn't get them to work. I downloaded MySQL server 5.0 and installed it. I then downloaded the driver from http://www.mysql.com/products/driver and ran the auto installer. it said everything worked out perfectly but when i try these lines:
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
    I get a SQLException that says no suitible driver
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    ( I thought this driver came with the JDK but i guess not, i just read about it in a java book)
    I get a ClassNotFoundException
    that just says sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    So yeah, SQL is pretty much not working. I need a solution to my problem, either by using text files, or a different type of database. I heard you could use excel to create a database but i have no idea how and i hear microsoft access could also do this, however i don't have microsoft access and i don't intend on paying for it. So, here are my questions:
    1st, is there a tutorial on using excel databases in java programs
    (if not)
    2nd is there a way to read/write/update a text file without deleting it?
    (if not)
    3rd is there a way to get SQL working, i have windows vista this could be the problem
    (if not)
    4th what could i do to store information on the hd for reading and modifying later?
    thanks, lateralus

    A database might be overkill just for a list of words.
    Thoughts:
    <ul>
    <li>What is the extent of your "file updating"? If you are just appending to the file, opening it in append mode will keep the file from being clobbered.</li>
    <li>Otherwise, why not create new files instead of editting them? The file names could include a version number or timestamp, allowing the reader to select the newest one.
    </li>
    </ul>
