Heterogeneous Services + Excel ODBC Driver ???...Urgent PLEASE...

Hai all,
I like to use HS+ excel Odbc driver to load data from excel file to owb. I do all the steps correctly. I created a mapping. While deploying the mapping I got the following error.
"error occurred when looking up remote object <unspecified>.EmployeeRange@EXCEL_SID.US.ORACLE.COM@DEST_LOCATION_EXCEL_SOURCE_LOC
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found
Could you please help me... its very urgent for my application....
Thanks and regards
Gowtham

SUDHAKAR,
If you use Oracle Generic Connectivity you can access any ODBC or OLE DB compliant data source including Excel. You will also have to have the ODBC or OLE DB driver on the Excel side. For further information, please take a look at:

  • Heterogeneous Services through ODBC

    There has been some different remarks about if Heterogeneous Services through ODBC will be available in XE. So now when we are getting close to the production release of XE I want to know what the final answer is on this feature

    For the sake of future readers: This works! I just paraphrased this approach to successfully create a dblink to my Sql Server 2000 EE running on MS W2K Svr. It took some time to sort out the details, and then to discover that the test in Tak Tang's excellent writeup did not work for me. I could not do: select table_name from all_tables@mydblink; without getting:
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    [Generic Connectivity Using ODBC]
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from DBLINK_IMS
    However, when I finally woke up and tried: SELECT * FROM <MySmallTable>; I realized that it was actually working.
    I hope this hint is helpful to future readers. Many thanks to TTang for his excellent writeup. Thanks also to Oracle for an excellent product.

  • Excel ODBC Driver

    Hi everyone,
    I've tried looking into the forum as well as Metalink for ideas on how to "install" an ODBC Driver for Excel on a Windows machine so I can integrate my Excel files to Oracle DW thru ODI.
    I have not been able to configure a Data Source thru the ODBC Admin app, even after installing Microsoft Office or OpenOffice.org apps in the machine, I still could not add a Excel data source (i.e. No option available for adding Excel driver-based datasources).
    My question is, is there any available ODBC driver for Excel for 64-bit machines? What can I do to work around this issue?
    For 32-bit machine, is there anywhere I can download an installer file?
    Hoping for a response.
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hello,
    this is an old error but the solution is quite easy... in the data model related to the excel files your spreadsheet is imported (when you reverse engineering it) inthe format
    XXXXXXX$
    actually there is a problem in the odiRef.getFrom method that is not adding the table name in brackets ("), to avoid this error simply assign the following phisical name to the datastore:
    [XXXXXXXXXX$]
    and your interface will work. If the problem persist maybe is because the problem is with the columns name, you shoudl map them as
    <Table_Alias>."column_name"

  • Excel Download problem - Urgent please

    Hi All,
    I am using 4.6C version.
    The user is downloading the ALV output to excel from the output menu
    List > Save > File > Spreadsheet >
    User tried saving a file to the Local drive and got a "Disk is full" error.
    User realized that the export didn't complete (Partial download)
    because there wasn't enough disk space to export the report.
    User stated that if he had received an error message of some sort, he might have realized the problem.
    He didn't receive any kind of errors.
    User would like some kind of error message to come up in those situations.
    Without an error message, he assumes the reports are acurate and trusts them.
    <b>I have analysied and found a exit EXIT_SAPLGRAP_001 which triggres after the popup asking the file path. However this exit doesnot give me the file path</b>.
    After this i think i can make use of the class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES and method GET_FREE_SPACE_FOR_DRIVE and FILE_GET_SIZE to check for disk space full.
    Kindly let me know how to get the file path given in the popup to get it in the exit EXIT_SAPLGRAP_001. Also there was no parameter id for the field.
    Thanks for your help.

    Senthil,
    "However in this case the sap didnot uses GUI_DOWNLOAD to download instead it uses download FM. "
    What "download FM" is 4.6 using then?
    The GUI_DOWNLOAD does check for a disk_full situation... I find it hard to believe that SAP made an oversight here.
    I believe that the user is not telling the truth to you... or something else happened in that they have not conveyed to you.

  • Oracle Heterogenous Services using JDBC (not using ODBC)

    Dear Friends,
    I need to configure Oracle HS to connect with MS SQL Server using JDBC as our company don't want to go for ODBC connection.
    Operating System is HP-UX
    Oracle Database Version is
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.3.0 Production
    TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    Can anyone please help me.

    The options you have for Heterogeneous Services are ODBC and OleDB.
    JDBC is not an option.
    The only other option is Transparant Gateway, a separately licenseable product.
    I don't know whether Transparant Gateway relies on other drivers.
    From the Sqlserver end there is MSDTC.
    Oracle generally doesn't underdocument their products.
    You can safely assume if it isn't documented, it isn't there.

  • Incorrect version of oracle server or odbc driver

    Hi friends,
              I am using oracle database 11g ,i like to connect oracle database with my sage ERP accpac 5.6 , i connect with sage it show me the error "incorrect version of oracle server or odbc driver or odbc driver manager"
    please anyone help me
    Thanks

    It appears the problem was that I had J2EE 1.4.2 and actually required J2SDK 1.4.2 i.e. the Standard edition rather than the Enterprise edition. Even though there are exactly the same files in the 'bin' directory in both versions. The installation now works.

  • What ODBC driver to use in order access Filemaker Pro from Excel

    Hi
    I run Filemaker Pro 11 and Excel on my Mac OSX 10.5.
    I want to access my Filemaker database directly from Excel (to use the data in Pivot tables without first having to export the data from Filemaker). What ODBC driver should I use?

    Bruce, I have an indexed, 5 Billion record MS-Access Jet (Red) 4.x format database file system (no table linking), 1 table only, each MDB file acting as a partial table, not a database. This database contains 500 x 2-GIG files, each file with 10
    million rows - text compression/encryption turned on.  I created this 1 Terabyte file system (empty) using ODBC Administrator which came installed on my Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop (Factory installed, no Service Packs).  I used ODBC/SQL then
    to create the tables/indexes within the empty MDB files.   I have a MEMO data type in my table too with text as long as 528 characters.    I have used MIMEbase64 encoding too, so that the data is not humanly readable neither via SQL
    nor by opening an MDB file in WordPad.   I do the decoding during SQL processing.
    In my FILE DSN, I bumped Threads property to 510 from default 3, so that I could run 510 simultaneous/concurrent SQL processes on my Laptop, to produce reliable report output.
    You might consider this little setup, if nothing else works, as long as the PCs have either Windows XP or 7 installed.   MS-Access ODBC driver is already installed for Jt 4.x format, and you can compact/repair the 4.x files using ODBC Administrator,
    or get the GUI/commandline utility JetComp.exe to do it, which is freely distributable.
    I know this is not likely your answer, but it is a good fall back perhaps for someone.

    It looks like there is a problem with the ODBC driver of Olite. I tried to see the configuration parameters in the Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator but when I click on the Configure button, the window closes and nothing appears. When I use another program (Aqua Data Studio) to query the Olite DB, everything works fine as long as I use basic queries without a "where" clause. When I use a "where" clause, windows opens a message box complaining about memory access error from the "olsv2040.exe", which is the Olite windows service, and it stops the service.
    There is also this error message when I launch the SOA Suite and it comes to the part of loading the BPEL processes:

    A file transaction.log is missing. It's strange because when I installed the SOA Suite, it never complained about the installation of the files. How can I re-install this file or generate it without installing the whole SOA Suite?
    I am sorry if my message is too long, but all these problems are related to the Olite DB. Is there a way to re-install the ODBC drivers and the service without re-installing the whole SOA Suite?
    Any would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok, after having installed the Oracle XE database and configured the data-sources of the BPEL PM. I still had the same error message complaining about invalid column number. I changed the code and put directly the connection pool:
    DataSource dataSource = (DataSource)_initialContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/BPELServerDataSource");
    Connection con = dataSource.getConnection();
    Statement stmt1 = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    ResultSet rs1 = stmt1.executeQuery("SELECT cikey, process_id FROM admin_list_cx WHERE index_1='"+deployedId+"'");
    And now it works! The row is found and no error. I am wondering, is there a problem with my code (it worked with the former BPEL PM API 10.1.2) or is there a problem with the function listInstancesByIndex of the Locator object or something else (look at the Exception trace). Did somebody successfuly used this method of locating processe's instance using the index_1 parameter with the 10.1.3 API?
    Cheers.

  • Oracle optimizer and heterogeneous services (Transparent Gateway for ODBC)

    Hi everyone!
    We have the following configuration:
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production.
    Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC 11.2.0.2.0 on the same machine as Oracle DB.
    Non-Oracle DB installed on a different hardware accessed through Oracle Gateway for ODBC via dblink.
    Now, we have to query the remote non-Oracle system and retrieve some data. For the sake of brevity let's suppose we have the following table in our non-Oracle DB:
    create table test (
         ip_address varchar(15),
         start_time datetime,
         end_time datetime
    And we run the following SQL query against the remote table on our Oracle DB:
    SELECT start_time,end_time,ip_address
    FROM remote_table@db_link
    WHERE
    end_time >= to_date('2011-10-11 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    OR (
    end_time IS NULL AND start_time >= to_date('2011-10-11 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    AND start_time <= to_date('2011-10-12 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    AND ip_address = '127.0.0.1';
    But, having query monitoring on the remote DB enabled, we see that the actual query on the remote site looks like this:
    SELECT "START_TIME","END_TIME","IP_ADDRESS"
    FROM "REMOTE_TABLE"
    WHERE "IP_ADDRESS"='127.0.0.1' AND "START_TIME"<=?
    All references to END_TIME column are gone from WHERE clause for whatever reason.
    However, Oracle execution plan shows us the following:
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost (%CPU)| Time | Inst |IN-OUT|
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 1 | 27 | 200 (0)| 00:00:03 | | |
    |* 1 | FILTER | | 1 | 27 | 200 (0)| 00:00:03 | | |
    | 2 | REMOTE | REMOTE_TABLE | | | | | DB_LINK | R->S |
    Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
    1 - filter("END_TIME">=TO_DATE('2011-10-11 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss') OR
    "END_TIME" IS NULL AND "START_TIME">=TO_DATE('2011-10-11 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))
    Remote SQL Information (identified by operation id):
    2 - SELECT "END_TIME","IP_ADDRESS","START_TIME" FROM "REMOTE_TABLE" WHERE
    "IP_ADDRESS"='127.0.0.1' AND "START_TIME"<=:1 (accessing 'DB_LINK' )
    This actually means that Oracle CBO decided that it will apply filter on END_TIME column after having retrieved the data from the remote site. We don't want this behaviour but have no idea how to affect execution plan in this case.
    So, the question is: How can we force Oracle CBO to not change the initial query and pass it to the remote site "as is"? Is there any way we can achieve this goal?

    Hi,
    Our Oracle DB and Gateway are running on the following system:
    HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64
    The following SQL code is executed in SQLPlus:
    SELECT start_time,end_time,ip_address
    FROM ip_acc_complete@gr_link
    WHERE
    END_TIME >= to_date('2010-10-21 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    OR (
    END_TIME is null AND START_TIME >= to_date('2010-10-21 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    AND START_TIME <= to_date('2010-10-22 00:00:00','rrrr-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    AND IP_ADDRESS = '127.0.0.1';
    Gateway debug trace shows the following:

    The non-Oracle DB is CopperEye Retrieval Server with its own custom ODBC driver.
    CopperEye query log shows that the following query is received from Oracle Gateway:
    01/11/2011 14:26:31 - NEW QUERY :
    SELECT "END_TIME","IP_ADDRESS","START_TIME" FROM "IP_ACC_COMPLETE" WHERE "IP_ADDRESS"='127.0.0.1' AND "START_TIME"<=?
    which complies with the information in Oracle Gateway trace file.
    So, it seems that it's Oracle DB decision to split the original WHERE clause into two parts, delegate one part to the remote site, retrieve the data and then apply the remaining filter locally.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services: ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

    Hey everyone, So I am trying to get a report onto the server, and in BIDS I kept getting a login screen repeating over and over when I tried to deploy my report, so I tried to upload the file at http://<servername>/Reports This worked, but then trying
    to run this report from http://<servername>/Reports did not work either because "An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'FTYDataSource'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) For more information
    about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors" Anyways I tried to add a New Data Source (which I would use in the report) at http://<servername>/Reports, type ODBC, with the connection string Dsn=blah_blahblah.
    I try to test the connection here and get the error ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified This is really getting old fast, everything I try, a new error comes up. Granted I am new at this,
    but this still should not be this troublesome. Does anyone have any ideas on what could FINALLY allow me to just put a report out onto the server?!? THANK YOU in advance for ANY help.

    Hi,
    Please try setting the credentials of the datasource.
    1. Double click and open the datasource in your project.
    2. Click on the credentials tab, and click on option button 'Use this username and password'
    3. Enter the username and password to connect to the datasource
    4. Deploy or upload the datasource to the report server and try accessing the reports.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 10g ODBC driver with Windows 7 32 bit connecting to Excel

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm having an issue connecting to our oracle 10g database (64 bit system) from a 32 bit windows 7 installation running excel 2010/2007 using odbc drivers. Our excel spreadsheets worked without issue in windows xp.
    In windows 7 I have been able to install the odbc driver via the following method:
    1. Download the oracle 'basic' client and oracle 'odbc' client from www.oracle.com and extract the contents:
    instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115
    instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115
    2. Create a folder 'oracle' and place the instantclient_10_2 folder inside.
    3. Ensure all the basic and odbc files reside in this folder.
    4. Create a 'network' folder within instantclient_10_2
    5. Create an 'admin' folder within 'network'
    6. Create sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files within the 'admin' folder:
    7. Run 'obdc_install' within the instantclient_10_2 folder
    8. Download and run the oracle odbc driver exe file from www.oracle.com (ORA10203.exe)
    9. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources and create a new System DN
    This allows excel spreadsheets connecting ONLY to oracle to function.
    Unfortunately some of our spreadsheets connect to both a MySQL database as well as oracle. Spreadsheets connecting only to MySQL also function correctly, however, as soon as the vb associated with a spreadsheet includes a mysql call followed by an oracle call the spreadsheets fail. In Excel 2007 excel crashes completely everytime. In Excel 2010 the mysql data is generated, then when the script hits to oracle odbc connection there is a long pause, the oracle ODBC driver connect pops up requesting a username/password (this didn't happen in xp), then the data source selection pops up, then the username/password connect screen pops up again, and finally it fails with a runtime error '1004' General ODBC error.
    If you look at the VB script it's failing at the Refresh BackgroundQuery statement in the ODBC connection block:
    With Worksheets("Oracle1").QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
    "ODBC;DSN=Oracle_ODBC;UID=user;PWD=password;SERVER=ORACLE_LINUX;", _
    Destination:=Worksheets("Oracle1").Range("A1"))
    .CommandText = strSql
    .Name = "Oracle1_data"
    .FieldNames = True
    .RowNumbers = False
    .FillAdjacentFormulas = False
    .PreserveFormatting = True
    .RefreshOnFileOpen = False
    .BackgroundQuery = True
    .RefreshStyle = xlOverwriteCells
    .SavePassword = True
    .SaveData = True
    .AdjustColumnWidth = True
    .RefreshPeriod = 0
    .PreserveColumnInfo = True
    .Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False
    End With
    Does anyone know how to get around this? It's very important!!
    Also if you try to edit the oracle ODBC connections in Control Panels -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources, ODBC crashes 95% of the time.
    Advice greatly appreciated!!

    Well, here's what I'd check anyway..
    1) get Process Explorer from http://sysinternals.com
    2) make a mysql connection, get a list of dll's loaded (include the location and version columns in the lower pane output)
    3) close that, then make an ora odbc connection, get a list of dlls.
    4) close that, then make a mysql connection followed by an ora odbc connection, get a list of dlls
    5) compare the lists of loaded dlls. In particular, the difference between #3 and #4, is there a dll dependency that gets loaded by oracle's odbc that comes from a different location when you've opened a mysql connection first?
    May or may not help, but might turn up a difference to help point you in a direction.

  • Heterogeneous Services ODBC to MS SQLSvr - ORA-00904 error

    Hello, I have successfully setup a heterogeneous Services ODBC to MS SQLSvr using the steps outlined at http://www.orafusion.com/art_orahs.htm.
    My problem is, the only queries that run without errors are SELECT * FROM tablename@xxx. When I try SELECT colname FROM tablename@xxx I get an ORA-00904: "colname": invalid identifier. Any thoughts?
    Also, will I be able to update MS SQLSvr tables using this link?
    Thanks.

    Hello, Your suggestion worked. Even though all the column_names are lower case, if I surrounded the column names with double quotes the query would work.
    Another question. I'm wanting to update a SQLServer table with data from a Oracle table using a query like:
    INSERT INTO sql_table@xxx
    SELECT * FROM oracle_table ;
    Is this possible? I'm getting a "ORA-02025: all tables in the SQL statement must be at the remote database" error message which looks like I can't.
    Thanks.
