HH 1.5 having a nervous breakdown?

Our HH 1.5 (black) has started to randomly reboot. It's been pretty reliable, and has required only an occasional power cycle when something gets stuck that prevents web sites connecting.
Now it resets quite often, and usually at a lousy 2Mbps. We've become accustomed to 10-16. Here are some stats. It looks like the SN Margin is the significant factor. Does that variation suggest intermittent noise on the line, therefore a faulty line?
(btw I have tried changing the filters; that hasn't helped)

Have you tried the quiet line test ? Dial 17070 and option 2. Best done with a corded phone.
I would imagine that the hub keeps restarting simply because of the number of errors you are acruing.......
We don't have an NTE5 socket - just an older type (BT logo) faceplate with 2 phone sockets - some years ago we used 2 lines, one for telephone, one for fax. Now just the one line.
I have a corded phone, and assume the test should be conducted through an ADSL filter. The corded phone in the master (entry point) socket without filter yields high pitch tone for 1 sec, same high pitch for a short blip, then continuous crackle. Through a filter yields silence.
Silence too on the two extension sockets, via filters, one serving the cordless 4-handset system and the other serving the Home Hub.
So I guess it's not a noisy/faulty line or internal extension.

  • J2EE Newbie having a nervous breakdown because of this error

Hi - I am a new user of Java.
I am trying to install J2EE to windows Xp professional on a 80 gig hard drive.
The C drive has more than 60 GB free - yet everytime I try to install the server software to this drive it tells me " insufficient disk partition space to install the selected products"....... I have tried installing in different folders and no success .... please help me !!!!

I have seen similar things to this before but I cannot remember how to fix it. the only thing I can suggest is that you make a smaller partition and install onto there

  • IWeb having a nervous breakdown

    And I'm right behind it.
For several days I'd panicked because when I'd open up iWeb none of my sites showed up at all. Then I was reading another discussion and thanks to OldToad's advice I cleared out my prefs and cache and restarted iWeb, and then my sites magically appeared!
However, I'm back to my original problem of my published changes not showing up on the web. Even my IT guy can't figure it out.
Just now I tried adding a new page to my site (stevefossimages.com) and nothing showed up on the left-hand column. So I tried it again. Still nothing. Then I tried publishing the site to my desktop, and I could see the pages I had added showing up! My Albums, My Albums 2 were being created, but I still couldn't see them on the left-hand side with all the other pages.
Is there a limit to the numbe of pages that can be created in iWeb? Or is there some other bipolar disorder that's affecting it? This is ridiculously frustrating. I actually felt the need to buy a replacement hard drive for my MacBook Pro since all this started several days ago.
Old Toad, are you out there??

I haven't done that today, but I have done it in the past. No indications of missing files. When I published the files to my ftp site via iWeb, the message appeared that the site had published. One of the options is to visit the site, and when I click that and go to the site, none of the changes show.
I'm at my wit's end about this. There's some very important and timely information that needs to get on that site!
On a related note, there's another site that I'm working on that publishes just fine. This is what makes me wonder!

  • Can I rename all my files without a nervous breakdown?

Most of the files on the Web site I am redoing, have names that use Caps. Example:
    ArticleAgencyIn.html
    ServicesExec2.html
There are about 40 such pages. Can I rename them, for example this way?
    articleagencyin.html
    servicesexec,html
I suspect I can rename them any way I want and nothing bad will happen. Links will be renamed as well. Anything I need
    to know,
    to do,
    to be warned about?
    As always, thank you.

Thanks, did not know that. But some of those files are in the Site Trash. Not sure how to delete the links. Maybe I have to delete those files by taking them from Site Trash into the Finder Trash. What do you suggest?
If you have links in you site pointing to files in the trash, you will need to relink those to files in the site. File in the trash will not be oploade when you upload you site to the server...
What might have happen is that you at some time may have deleted or moved those file to the trash wile they still is in use.
Ther are severel fixe you can do ...
First... are you haveing the files in the trash in another version/copi in the site folde ?? ...
if so you can use the lasso tool to relink those link to the version of the files in the site...
ore you can move them back into the site by simply draging them frome the trash to the site window
You can simply empty the trash and there after look at the site to see wher and what files are missing and redo them (You can make a bakeup of the trash by taking a kopy of the "site trash" folde its in the site.data folder)
When looking at files in the site window you can see a litle black dot in the "used" colum  ... that dot indicates if the image and file is link to (In use) by other some file (You may have to expand the window or scroll right to se the "used" colum) , this can be a great help when trying to find out if a image/file are in use
Be aware that some file/image may not show up as used if those used by a script or for some reson is not link to direktly by a url. GL tels you with the dot that ther somewear in the site is a url to that file

  • IMac Had a Nervous Breakdown!

Can someone please help me with this? I was on the internet and I got about ten new windows opening out of control and then the computer froze.
When I start it up now, all I see is a little grey disc icon with a question mark flashing in it. It won't start or move from that image.
    What happened???

Except he is using a G3 with Mac OS 9!
    Dweeb, I agree, your iMac has lost contact with its startup volume. You may want to seek help for your issue in the OS 9 or the iMac G3 Discussions, some folks here in the Core Duo forums haven't seen OS 9 and some of us haven't used it in a few years;

  • HELP stop Ipod induced nervous breakdown

I bought Ipod 60g in August. Connected to Windows via my Toshiba laptop. First download - great, all worked perfectly. Second time - nothing - Ipod not recognised and left staring do not disconnect. Took laptop, extra hard drive and Ipod to genius bar. Still no connection but given firewire adapter and told to try it. Bought firewire and connected - still nothing. Tried another laptop at work - worked first time. Tried again next day - NOTHING - do not disconnect again and no connection. Went back to genius bar. Genius could not connect to my laptop either. So gave me a new Ipod - great. Also updated with latest setups. It worked! Deep joy ensuing I downloaded 300 tracks in the store. Got home and downloaded the remaining 3000 I had stored in Itunes. Thought I had finally cracked it. This morning plugged in to download another three CDs from Itunes - guess what?? NOTHING - SAME PROBLEM. Love the Ipod but not practical to use a different computer everytime I want to download!! Can anyone out there tell me what is going on and help me resolve this before I self-combust!!???!!

Either your Windows Mass Storage Device driver is fouled up, or your USB device drivers are fouled up. Yes, on both computers you tried it on.
Short answer is to reinstall Windows and make you you install all the Windows updates too.
Installing just the updates might solve it.

  • TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS RE: iCLOUD MAIL SERVER DROPOUT

Here's what I learned throughout this and I will post a discussion in a separate thread for the rest of the folk out there.
MYTHS AND FACTS RE: iCLOUD MAIL SERVER DROPOUT- WHAT I'VE LEARNED
Hopefully this troubleshooting helps everyone that has had or having issues, for now and for the future...
Firstly, the Apple system status is a bit of a myth. Because it is a global community of people using iCloud, it does not always update in real time. The Apple techs check this when there is issues, as do the public, so odds are unless every single person is having issues around the globe, then it won't reflect an issue. http://www.apple.com/au/support/systemstatus/
Apple technicians work in territories. For example, I live in Australia so I had to deal with a tech supervisor who looks after Australasia and who is based in Singapore. They don't get a notification if a group of people in Canada are having problems, even if they are identical to mine, unless as above, the whole world is having issues.
CHECK THESE FORUMS as a first step measure to work out if the problem seems to be just you and your account, or a wider community. Particularly before you make any major change to your email accounts, passwords, computers or phones.
If you get an issue in the next week or so (and keep in mind for the future) Error Message: "MY NAME" returned the error "[AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed." Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?" and this happens multiple times when you know the password is correct, then odds are that the server is down and you are best to wait it out. Try checking your mail via iCloud to test. If you can send it through there, odds are that the glitch has nothing to do with your password or issues with your account and rather than make changes, try and wait it out.
If all of your folders in your email disappear, if they are IMAP folders, then log into iCloud mail in your web browser to check that they are still there. It just means that your mail client (Mac Mail, Outlook for Mac etc) can't access the IMAP folders via the server. Don't panic until they are gone from every device you use your email on.
Be wary of deleting ANYTHING from your computer unless you are backing it up first. For example, I had a tech guy on the first day of the server drop out, who gave me the wrong advice of deleting EVERYTHING from my keychain. This resulted in me having massive security issues for web browsers and thus, I couldn't log into my iCloud mail in my browser. Not only did I have to re-install my OS Maverick to fix it (which took 10 hours) but I could have muddled through this mess by continuing to work using web mail.
If everyone seems to be having a mail server problem based on online community discussions, then you are not alone and TELL your Apple tech this. Send copies of the links to the various conversations. Push them (nicely) to investigate internally what is going on and don't let them rely on the System support status. It also helps to put in a report to Apple down the track.
Make sure that you can get a copy of Apple tech guys email address. Thankfully, even though I was on the phone to them for in excess of 7 hours over the past two days, I could update my guy via email and also send him screen shots of things that did or didn't work using my iPhone. We would keep in contact and all I would have to do is send him an email and he would call me back straight away. No holding or dealing with any call centre issues, which is probably the only reason why I didn't lose my cool too much.
If you can get into your iCloud through your web browser, you have the options under the inbox and then the little wheel thing down the bottom (preferences) to put a vacation message, like an out of office. Put that on and explain you are having email issues and give another email address or your contact number. At least the people that you need to contact will know that things could get lost in cyberspace. I wish I had of known this earlier.
You can also forward emails emails to another email address under preferences. Also very handy.
Become friends with your tech guy rather than enemies. If you don't feel like your tech guy knows what he's talking about, politely request to speak to a supervisor. I would be having a nervous breakdown right now (small business owner, lost two days of billable hours so I am financially behind) if I didn't have a good relationship with the guy that has been helping me. We are a good team, with me updating him with the information, via these forums, to find a proper solution to the issue and to rectify the wrong information I was given by the previous Apple tech guy I spoke to.
Ask them to replicate your issue on their side of the fence to troubleshoot. For example, my tech guy Levi replicated my issue with websites by intentially removing the system certificate from his computer and he realised that was what the problem was, and thus he could quickly find out how to fix it.
Back up your stuff regularly. It might be annoying but it is peace of mind if know you are only going to lose a minimum of a week's worth of stuff.
Apple has an engineering team and tech guys raise 'tickets' to them with information on what has happened to their clients. I don't know much about this but I would assume it is having the engineering team investigate to stop this happening in future. They can only work with the feedback they get I suppose. I would also suggest doing the Apple Care survey so they also get feedback. We need to explain to them that we are asking for communication first and foremost - whilst it is inconvenient, if we all knew when and where they would be doing server upgrades (which the rumours indicate that this is what happened) then I don't feel everyone would be so frustrated.
Using your computer is like raising a child - you know when something is not right, even if you are not experienced at it yet. Sure, you may not know the lingo but trust your instincts and tell your tech guy. I have learned more in the past two days about computers and Mac's than ever before and I know when I can confidentially say that strange things were happening to my Mac and where Apple went wrong in guiding me. Don't always take a blanket or easy explanation if you don't think it is right; odds are it will result in making changes to your product that do more harm than good.
Keep a record of notes of how much time you have spent on the issue (including phone calls to Apple), what they have told you to do and at what time, changes to passwords, troubleshooting tips and the contact details (and reference numbers) of who you speak to. I'm not sure if Apple provides compensation for these issues or anything along these lines, but I certainly will be informing them so they can try and better their service to me in the future.
Anyway, I hope that helps everyone a bit - these are just things that I have learned and if anyone else has any tips please feel free to add them.

Tried port 465 but it wouldn't work.
Went to our help desk and here's the reply I got (paraphrased slightly cuz the person at the help desk was trying hard to be helpful and I don't want to get him/her in trouble):
I presented this question to the university team and then waited for a long time to get the following reply:
we do not allow relay from non-university IP addresses.
port 25 for smtp is a standard worldwide.
For the most part, that went right over my head and didn’t answer anything, but I hope it means something to you.
I called him to get more clarification, but all I really got out of it was that, if you don’t use exchange which is secure via port 443, then your other option is to use smtp.  And then he said something about how relay, iron ports, and authenticated accounts work together to make it secure.  I know it makes me sound a lot more inept than I am, but all that made little sense to me.  What I gather, is… that by selecting SSL when configuring your client, it makes it so that your login info and mail content is safe.  Sorry, I can’t provide a more cohesive and comprehensive explanation, but I think the bottom line is that they have combined a non-secure protocol with other stuff to make it secure.
So, I'm hoping that checking SSL and using port 25 somehow solves the problem to the satisfaction of our IT professionals at the University ...
Again, thanks for taking the time to educate the rest of us!

  • How do you move a file to the trash with ONE keystroke (Can't believe I'm wasting time on this!)

Everytime I want to send a file to the trash, I have to either perform some kind of key combination/shortcut or use the trackpad/mouse, right click and select "move to trash", or drag the file(s) to the trash!  This is absolutely ridiculous.  Why can't I just press the delete button??? I cannot take it anymore!  It's such a waste of time.
After some research, I finally found a post with the answer I was looking for from user  par larsson
Re: How delete a file in mac os x?
"You can also go into System Preferences and make a new keyboard shortcut. I turned one of the function keys into a "Move To Trash" key.
    1. No need to use the mouse for something that should be simple and quick.
    2. Single button press just like in Windows."
    Seriously!
Now the problem is how do you do this?
    1. I went to the system prefs > Keyboard > Keyboard and checked "use F1, F2, etc... as standard function keys.."
    2. Under keyboard shortcuts, I selected "Application Shortcuts" and clicked on the "+" sign
    3. I selected the finder application, entered "Move To Trash" in the action box, and F12 as the key (because it's next to "delete")
That did not work.  It just opened the dashboard instead.
    4.  I went back to "keyboard shortcuts" and found F12 was already assigned to open the dashboard.  So I unchecked it and tried again.
That still didn't work.  I would select the file to be moved to trash, press F12, and after an error "beep" sound, the last file in the folder was highlighted.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!!!!!  YOU DID IT!  I cannot believe it!
I changed "Move To Trash" to "Move to Trash" and selected a file.  I had lost all hope, so I took a minute to prepare myself for yet another moment of deep frustration.  Then I pressed F10, and bang! the file was trashed!!!  It took me a couple minutes to actually believe what just happened.  Thank you so much!  If I could, I would "like" you as many times as I can physically hit the "Liked" button!
PS: what the heck is wrong with Apple though???  Wrong instructions, incorrect help instructions on their own site.  The chances of figuring this out before having a nervous breakdown were like one in a million (approximately, I did not actually do the math).  Last week, the keyboard and the trackpad stopped responding on my brand new macbook pro for a couple hours. I was not the only one with this problem.  Apparently, this was from a design flaw, which means it could happen again at any time.  iMovie doesn't work.  TextEdit keeps crashing all the time.  Emptying the trash can take hours.
Since 2000, I bought a PMac G4 Quicksilver, a used PMac G3 Blue, a used iBook G4, a used Pismo PBook G3, a used Graphite iMac G4, a used iMac G3 (green, 233MHz I think) and I already had more problems with this brand new macbook pro than will all the other macs combined...  For such an expensive machine, with 16GB of RAM, that's a little dissapointing, especially from Apple.  Maybe I'm just not lucky.
Anyways, thanks again!  Best moment of 2014!

  • Not sure if Mavericks is worth the effort of downloading and I prefer mountain lion.  How do you make a file in Finder.

I am not sure if Mavericks is much better than Mountain Lion as an OS.  The maps part was okay but I could not view the map as shown on the apple website, there was no 3D.  How do you create a file in Finder on the MacBook Pro.?

  • Bad user experience/errors with Adobe Air widget installation

    I'm having a nervous breakdown at work (it's 10pm and I'm
still in the office), an Adobe Air widget application I've built is
somehow causing the client to panic (they can't install or run the
Adobe Air installation or the widget and now they feel all their
users are having the same problem). If anyone has a minute to try
this out and let me know if the widget installs correctly of if you
have any recommendations on a better user experience I'll greatly
appreciate it. The client is receiving an error message when
installing Adobe Air (error 0 or something).
widget is on the bottom left (installs for PC and Mac). If
the widget installs without any glitches please let me know. God
    bless.
    http://stayonhermind.com

The application installed just fine for me. I'm running
Windows XP SP2 and I already have AIR 1.1 runtime installed.
I do have a few suggestions for improvement though! Just take
or leave any or all of these! :)
    In your popup you say,
"Before installing the 9IX Rules Widget verify that
you’re running the latest version of Adobe Flash."
Is this really a necessary requirement? If you are
downloading the .air I think it would not matter whether or not you
    have Flash installed.
    Then you say,
"After installing Adobe Air (link below), return to this page
and re-install the 9IX Rules Widget. Install Adobe Air Now .
Otherwise click on the button below (the widget install button)."
I understand you are trying to make this easy for people but
    to me this seems confusing.
    <GENERAL AIR COMMENT>
If someone does not have AIR runtime already installed I
thought running a .air would trigger the download and install. If
not this gets pretty complicated. How do you test if they have AIR
or not? And since most will not at this early stage how dow we
educate end-users to even know if they have it or not?
    </GENERAL AIR COMMENT>
You should digitally sign your AIR app so it does not say
Publisher: UNKNOWN with the big red "?" icon!
I would recommend against using all caps in your messages.
I would recommend choosing a better font (maybe a pixel font)
since the message text is a bit blurry.

  • [Disappeared Post] Place multiple graphics in numerical order

(Am I going crazy, or is Jive having a nervous breakdown AGAIN? I'm pretty sure -- well, fairly sure -- I just answered to a thread with this title!!)
This Javascript will rename all files that start with one or more digits within a selected folder, adding the proper number of leading zeroes, and thus nicely circumvent InDesign's programmers' incapability to properly sort files on importing and placing.

... That 2nd line is of vital importance ...
The Description line is to show a nice helpful pop-up when you hover the mouse above this script in the Scripts panel -- particularly useful if you have some (wait, I'm gonna count mine) 140 scripts with, erm, "helpful names" like 'alignwords2.js' or 'balance.js' or (indeed) 'test.jsx'.
The second line, however, is important when this script suddenly stops working! It contains the important information of who made it (me) and when (today). If I ever update or amend the script, you might want to know what version you are using!
Commenting out a line, by the way, is extremely easy. Just as in the first line, all you have to do is place two slashes // at the start of any line, and it will no longer be part of the action. Also, good for you! for finding out all you had to do was to remove that 2nd line to get it to work! I dunno what went wrong, it's correct over here in my local copy. Let's blaim Jive again, shall we.

  • This'll get a reaction!

Okay, I've got a Canon 550D. I'm thinking of buying a Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle, with a 60g SSD, to record uncompressed footage from the camera's HDMI output. This will only be for short scenes to which I want to apply green screen effects.
I'm told this will work fine. But I've also been told that I may need to install on my iMac a codec that will recognise the uncompressed footage that was recorded on the SSD.
    So, my two questions are:
    1.   Is it correct that I'll need a special codec, and
    2.   Will my computer, with 16gb RAM, be able to edit such huge files in After Effects, or Final Cut Express, without having a nervous breakdown?
    Thanks.

You shouldn't have any trouble with the codec if you have Final Cut Pro because I think it's ProRez. At any rate, Black Magic Design has always been great at supplying codecs. The problem you're going to have with the 550D/T2i is that the HDMI output from that camera includes the focus box (the little white square) and it doesn't output a full 1920 X 1080 image. You get cropping or black pixels all around the edge.
I own one of these cameras and it's one of the many frustrations that I have. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing camera for the price, but it's not what you're looking for. The 60D is better because you at least have a little control over the audio,  but as far as I know there is no Canon DSLR that sends clean live video out the HDMI cable. I believe the 7D will deliver clean picture but it is still cropped with gray bars top and bottom.
The HDMI signal is fully compliant HDMI compliant, the camera just doesn't have the hardware built in to send the entire HD video image to the screen. Instead of getting the 1080 HD footage the camera records internally you are getting an HDMI feed of the camera's LCD viewfinder. At least they stripped off the other overlays. The HDMI output is useful for focus and to check color, but it's not a very good substitute for the real HD video.
Here's an article about the problem. Before you pick a camera do a little research.

  • LOST iPHONE 5- D E S P E R A T E. HELP!

I lost my iPhone 5 a couple of days ago on the Metro Rail (pretty sure it's stolen) and I am literally going insane. I can't track it in "Find My iPhone". It says that my phone is "offline". I had insurance with Best Buy but they don't cover lost or stolen phones and I talked to Sprint (I'm not sure if I have insurance) but they said that tp get my iPhone back, it would cost me almost $900 bucks. I had my device blacklisted and the service shut off. If I turn it back on through Sprint, could I use "Find My iPhone" to track it or is there ANY possible way to find my iPhone/get a new one without killing  myself over the price? Shoould I start selling my body to pay for the replacement? HELP. Like I'm having a nervous breakdown.

No. If you can't locate it with Find my iPhone, it can't be tracked. You'll have to buy a new phone. How you get the money for that is up to you.

  • Acrobat X Pro: Really slow opening files

There's a post with this name in a read-only section. I haven't posted here for years, but I'm having this problem. I bought Nitro PDF as my workaround. It's good software, but, goshdarnit, I'd really like my Acrobat Pro to work also. There's no fix posted over there, so I'm wondering if there is a fix anywhere? Thanks.

...I've uninstalled the trial and, following this, my system is working perfectly again.  I'm sorry but ever since version 10 of the software was released, my system hasn't been able to use Acrobat Pro without having a nervous breakdown.  It's causing trouble even when I'm not using it!  I suspect this is something to do with the software that checks whether it's a trial version or legitimate copy; unfortunately, it's active all the time (much like Vista's useless build of UAC), and so the entire system grinds to a halt.
I've commented about this issue before in previous releases, but either your team at Adobe doesn't know why it affects certain computers but not others, or you do, and simply ignore the software problem.  It's a shame, but I will just have to do everything through a service via your website from now on.
