Hi, can anyone tell me the best way to transfer my everything including itunes a/c to a brand new mac, thanks

Hello i recently transfered to a new mac and i have it perfectly figured out so first off dont use migration assestant if you don't want to get your old computer exactly on your new computer.  In my opinion starting on a fresh computer is best, BUT you still want your files so i have a video you can watch if my instructions don't make sense.
1. Go to finder and find your music folder
2. click the folder labled itunes
3. click itunes music or find the folder with all the folders in it that have names of artist or albums
4. then select all those folders with the artis or album names with commant A this will select all those folders
5. then drag these to and external hard drive or connect to your old mac from your new mac wirelessly to find these folder
6. if you did wireless sharing option just drag all those folders to the itunes icon if you used an external harddrive find the folders on there and do the same.
7. any questions please reply watching video will help.

  • What is the best way to transfer my music library from my windows pc to my new macbook air?

what is the best way to transfer my large iTunes library from my windows pc to my new macbook air?  Not all purchased, many from CDs I owned

Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Hi there can anyone tell me the best option for when my Imac gets to almost full in terms of hard drive capacity ie close to 1TB used?

Most of the space is taken up with photos held with Aperture 3 photo images.
Is there an easy way to install a external hard drive that links to my Imac and can access all the images easily and quickly?
I am a bit concerned that I am going to lose some of these precious memories in the process of transfer.
Also what do people do for backing up these images etc? anythoughts anyone has on this subject would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Yes you will need to have either a Firewire or USB 2 external drive. Although Firewire is faster the drivers and or caddies are more expensive than USB and they are harder to find. Firewire is becoming a DEAD Technology. None of the newer Mac computer include a Firewire port and most all Win PCs dropped that port or never updated it to FW 800.
So I suggest you stay with a USB 2 drive as they are readily available and cost much less.
Yes you can have as many connected as you have USB ports or more if you use a USB HUB. Make sure you buy a drive that has its own AC power supply. They work better then the ones that are USB Bus powered and some of the USB Bus powered models have to be connected to 2 USB ports at the same time to supply enough power to them so they work correctly.

  • Can someone tell me the best way to do the "Indiana Jones" effect with Motion 5?

I'm making a movie with FCP-10 and want to use the "Indiana Jones" effect for my travel documentary.  Can anyone suggest a way to do this or direct me to a site that can?

Not sure what  "like magic" means.  But I'll offer suggestions that may get you closer to that goal.
    - First, to make it a dotted line, first draw a short line, one that will be a single dash in your dashed-line.  Turn its visibility off (I left it turned on in the screen shot below, so you could see it).  I'll name this layer "Single Dash".
    - Next, you'll draw your Bezier line as in my article.
    - In the bezier line's Outline properties, change Brust Type to Image, and drag the Single Dash layer into the image source well.  This will create your dashed line.
    - To animate it, first with the playhead at the start of the timeline, keyframe Last Point Offset to 0.  Move the playhead to the end of the timeilne, and keyframe that to 100%.
    - To make it "travel" as I think you're trying to do, move the playhead to the start of the timeilne.  Then drag the First Point Offest slider slowly to the right until 3 dashes (or how ever many you want) show.  Keyframe the First Point Offest to that.  Move the playhead to the end of the timeline, and adjust that parameter to taste, keyframe.
    - Adding a Drop Shadow could help give it some depth.
    - Making the Group a 3D Group, and adding a camera, moving the camera along, maybe some special lighting, could make the whole thing really cinematic.
You'll probably want to experiment with these settings, too.  And don't forget you can put a Fade In/Out behavior if needed.  Let me know if this helps, or if you have any further questions.

  • What is the best way to transfer my Yahoo mail account email, email folders and contacts to Mac Mail?

A new version of Yahoo Mail has unexpectedly been dumped on long time users a few days ago, leaving many of us with functions that no longer work and are unstable. There was no announcement of a Beta or a possibility of retaining the old Yahoo Mail. It was like "Here it is, like it or not. We don't care."
My son said "Why don't you use another email client?". I thought of Mac Mail immediately. I have found a lot of instructions as to how to move my Yahoo mail components, and they sound pretty easy, but what I haven't found is what happens to my Inbox email, my archived email and my contacts. Do I have to move all those components to Mac Mail manually, and if so, will they now reside on my hard drive? Maybe I'm getting in over my head here. Some of the instructions say all I need is just my Full Name, Email address and Password. I guess I'm a cynic. It just sounds too good to be true. What happens to the stuff that was on Yahoo?
I have a couple of other reputable email accounts, but I would have to go through all my friends and businesses and inform them of the changed email addy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    ktaggart

I've never bothered w/Yahoo Mail latest upgrades or updates.
You can switch back to the old version of Yahoo Mail by going into your Yahoo Preferences and/or check the top right hand corner of its website.

  • Can someone tell me the best way to clean?

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13" from mid-2014 that I bought this March.  It's going good, except I've noticed some white spots on the left side of my trackpad, and a white streak on the right.  (apologies if they're hard to see, but they're there, trust me)  I generally keep my hands pretty clean, don't sweat a lot and don't really even rest my hands on the laptop.  I have no idea how they got here or how to get them to go.  It's really grinding my gears so I'd like to try to fix it now before making a Genius appointment.

    Thank Allan,
I've seen various makes of cleaning CDs (some very cheap!?) but what make/s would you recommend for my iMac, so the drive won't be damaged?
    Makey.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 17 inch and I just destroyed the screen.  Can anyone tell me the keystrokes to turn on the external display as primary?

I have a 17-inch MacBook Pro with a destroyed screen.  (My son put it on the top of his car and drove off and it fell off.)  Can anyone tell me the keystrokes to make an external monitor the primary monitor?  I can see only the upper left side of the laptop screen so I CAN select system preferences.  I can then arrow over to system preferences and down to make selections I cannot see.  I don't know then what to do or IF I can make the choices needed to make the external monitor primary when all I can do is make keystrokes on items I cannot see.  It's an older (about 2008) MacBook Pro and I would like to use the external monitor to see to connect an external hard drive and download files to install on a new MacBook.  My son might know the iOS but I don't.

    • I don't know then what to do or IF I can make the choices needed to make the external monitor primary
This is the left side of System Preferences in OS 10.8.3. (if that is not what the MBP is running post back). By the way, if you can grab the top of that pane you could move it over to the top far left. - Same for any pane.
Do this with the external monitor connected and powered on.
You need to click on Displays., and then grope for Arrangement and click there.
When you get there, the two screens are shown.
The trick is to grab the white stripe (on the left in this image) and move it to the other rectangle. You do not have to position it exactly, it snaps into place when it gets close.

  • Hi there, can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac Mini? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? Thanks in advance, Grtz T.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • Can anyone tell me the difference in performance between CSS URL switching

    first
Can anyone tell me the difference in performance between CSS URL switching and F5 Big-IP?
    second
Can anyone tell me the difference in performance between CSS URL switching and alteon ?
    third what is best overally?
    i think alteon is best
    is that right?
    best regard

It looks like the primary question here is performance, in which case:Performance is not an issue, so long is it is sufficient. In the case of CSS 11000 and Alteon, performance fall within the same order of magnitude (supporting web sites with several billion hits per day.) F5 does not have sufficient performance, due to platform and OS limitations (I’ve heard as low as 50 connections per second in complex configurations). The Cisco CSM posts up over 10x the performance at 200k flows/second.
Typically the primary concern is features, then CSS 11000 switches lead with a wide and flexible array of features that are not only helpful to network and web administrators, but well integrated too. CSS 11000 switches offer configuration through CLI, Web GUI, and XML. CSS 11000 collects statistics that can be exported to non-Cisco applications for billing and management.
The CSS11000 also supports URL load balancing and HTTP header balancing within one content rule, with complex matching. Further, it supports user agent, pragma/no-cache, host field, cookie field, language field, accept, accept charset, accept-encoding, and Connection within the http header field.
In addition, the CSS11000 matches up to 128 bytes with support of wildcards anywhere within the string. On the other hand, Nortel (Alteon) - HTTP header load balancing is not supported on the same VIP as URL load balancing. Eg. This means that a simulated WAP user cannot be directed to a server while load balancing "normal" browsers to their servers based on URL without using two separate VIPs. Only ONE http header load balance is supported on the entire switch. This limits you to either User Agent (WAP, Netscape, IE, Palm, etc), OR pragma/no cache (do not send the user to cache, allow (the user) to go to the origin), or Host field (allowing you to direct on domain name), or Cookie. Also, Nortel does not support the language field.
In regards to F5, many of the performance claims are based on HTTP 1.0 requests (most web sites today are not using HTTP 1.0), Many emerging applications rely on HTTP 1.1 rather than HTTP 1.0. Also, the BIG-IP cannot spoof the connection to detect the URL, cannot do NAT on the flow, and cannot maintain states for persistent connections.
Overall, I think CSS switches are the lowest cost to own, and most effective of all the load balancing platforms on the market.
