Hi, I am trying to update my macbooks software, but every time i restart it after the software download it cancels the updates. anyone know why it fails to make the updates?

You have to delete the corrupt back-up so iTunes can at least back-up the current data on the iPhone and then restore it. Search these forums, there a several good posts on how to delete the corrupt back-up.

But TODAY I tried it updating my iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 through MY HOME PC Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit after downloading iTune 10.5 & Guys good news is that I UPDATED my iPhone 4..... The plus point of using my windows 7 ultimate PC, even i got the same error twice or thrice but I REUME ALL & then I got the result. I don't know what was the problem updating with my MacBook Pro but FINALLY I SUCCEDED:-) ENJOY GUYS

How large is your HD and how much space do you have left?
Check out the following & do the necessary:
Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
Try SU again.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

Sounds like you got a used computer and paid new for it, that's illegal.
"Open box" is a return by a previosu customer and can't be sold as new, you should have gotten a discount or informed of such.

Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

This may sound stupid, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway. Is it possible, that if I have enough junk on my desktop it might disrupt the signal? It seems odd, but it kind of looks like my signal is strong and relatively steady now that I've cleaned my desktop. I do tend to get very cluttered. I use a lot of reference images and save text clippings to use later... it just piles up very quickly.
So, I wonder if all that extra effort my system has to do keeping up with the junk might have something to do with the drop outs?

to contact iTunes store support, follow these steps:
1. Go to expresslane.apple.com
2. select 'itunes' and then 'itunes store'
3. select a topic and a subject
4. click 'continue' and then 'email'
5. fill out the form and explain your situation
6. they will respond within 24 hours usually

I've been having the same issues too, and thought it was just my outdated computer or account?!
Every time I try to purchase a song, "session has timed out" shows up after I click "agree" to the terms!? I seem to be in the exact same scenario as 'SportsBarn' above: Itunes support have replied repeatedly with the same "solutions" but nothing has helped or even been applicable. I have an older laptop, 2005 Powerbook running OS X 10.4 Tiger so it's not compatible with the latest iTunes 10.5.2 which requires minimum OS X 10.5. I've been using the balance already in my iTunes account (from redeemed giftcards over the past few years) with no problem, until recently (my last successful purchase was October 2011). Are you doing this over a wireless network. This happened a long time ago when we had DSL. I got sick of it and went to broadband thru our cable company.
If you are using wireles router, use a cable and connect your computer via the cable to the modem or wireless router if you have a location for the cable upon the wireless router. I think it is a cat 5 cable that connects the computer to your modem or wireless router. This way you Internet should not time out.
I hope this helps you. It is hard to identify the issue not knowing your Internet connect setup. Some modems and wireless routers have more Port options.
