Home Directory Creation using Remote Manager

Hi,
We are working on OIM-AD. we have two AD domains in our environment. we need to create home directory folder upon AD provisioning such that only admin or respective user can access the folder. We tried all possible stops but we are not able to assign proper permissions. Also in one of the domain the vbscript for folder creation is run by admin and in other domain it has to be run by domain user.
has anyone achieved this by means of Remote Manager?

Hi Currently,
i have a requirement to execute vb script (present on a remote machine in which connector server is installed) from oim machine while using Exchange connector (11.1.1.6).
This can be achieved by using remote manager,but i dont want to use remote manager.
Hence decided to use Action scripts.
As per connector configuration,
i have configured Action scripts in Lookup.Exchange.UM.Configuration lookup definition, by means of three entries
After Create Action Language      Shell
After Create Action Target           Resource
After Create Action File              /home/scripts/Disable.bat
Disable.bat has the following ,
Powershell.exe -File C:\scripts\Setup.vbs

As Setup.vbs is expecting a parameter of log on name, i was providing the same.
But while creating the user,as this script gets called, getting the following error and hence 'create User' is getting failed.
Problem while PowerShell execution System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: This task does not support recipients of this type. The specified recipient XXXXXXXXXXX...XXXXX is of type UserMailbox. Please make sure that this recipient matches the required recipient type for this task.
While provisioning the user to Exchange , i have selected 'Recepient type' as 'User Mail box' explicitly, but still getting the error.
Please provide any pointers to resolve the issue.

[Kindly help me understand]Urgent:Provisioning using Remote Manager

Hi,
I have a requirement to auto provision a resource to a 3rd party system as soon as it is created. We can not do it using DB Connector, as well as WebServices.
The remanining option is to have their jar in our system and invoke a Java Task, which introduces tight coupling and not well suited.
So, I have thought about creating a Remote Task, where in I would introduce my jar, which will just open a URL Connection to the 3rd party system using Remote Manager.
My query here is:
1. Is this a feasible and a good approach?
2. If yes, then how do i connect to this api using Remote Manager. I created a Remote Task, and defined a IT Resource Type definition. As per my understanding, we need to introduce a IT Resource of type Remote Manager as well. However, the design console is now showing any type of IT Resource Form.
OIM version used: 11.1.1.5 and references used : http://itnaf.org/2011/07/27/installing-and-testing-remote-manager-on-oim-10g/
Please suggest how to go about it.

I do not know of a way in Skype Manager to block a user affiliated with a Skype Manager profile from searching the Skype directory for other Skype users.

Home directory creation for local user accounts using powershell

Through Computer Management when I create a user, a home directory is created for the same user in the folder C:\Users.I am creating a user through powershell in a remote machine.I am using the following script to create user
$comp = [ADSI]'WinNT://localhost,computer';
$user = $comp.Create('User', 'account7');
$user.SetPassword('Welcome1');
$user.SetInfo();
The account is getting created. But no home directory is created for this user. How to create a home directory for a user using powershell? Also the user created through GUI is a member of the group 'Users' by default. How to add the user created to the
'Users' Group.

Why can't a new folder be created within my user home directory when using 'Save As' in Mountain Lion?

Hi,
So I want to create a new folder within my main user home directory (not the root directory) just for my developer-related files? I can do this from Finder, although it does prompt me for my password to do so. However, when using 'Save As' from any app, the 'New Folder' button is greyed out when I select my user home directory. So I have to create the folder in Finder then Save As.
Is this normal behavior? Is OSX discouraging me from adding things to my user home directory by making it less convenient? Is there a good reason it would be discouraging me from creating new folders there? If not, is there a setting that I can change to allow the creation of new folders from the Save As prompt?

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

I've just upgraded my server (G5 PowerPC Dual 2GHZ, 2GB Ram) form 10.4.10 to 10.5. I did a fresh install instead of upgrading to prevent there being any problems but unfortunately there is...
Everything seems to be working fine apart from when i come to create a new user. I select the sharepoint (afp://server.com/Users) in the 'home' tab and select create home now button -> press save and i get the following message:-
unable to create home directory because an error occurred.
I've tried allsorts like creating new sharepoints, new users but nothing seems to help.
Any suggestions?

I had the same issue. I just got thru doing the third reinstall of Server. (1st. Basic, 2nd Advance, and now third workgroup). On this install it all works fine. On my advanced issue it was a hit and miss situation on what worked for me. So far starting from workgroup and using server admin to manage the system has worked for me to add the little things that workgroup did not provide.

Zfs on solaris 10 and home directory creation

I am using samba and a root preexec script to automatically create individual ZFS filesystem home directories with quotas on a Solaris 10 server that is a member of a Windows 2003 domain.
There are about 60,000 users in Active Directory.
My question is about best practice.
I am worried about the overhead of having 60,000 ZFS filesytems to mount and run on Solaris 10 ?

Testing results as follows -
Solaris 10 10/09 running as VM on Vmware ESX server with 7 GB RAM 1 CPU 64 bit.
ZFS pool created with three 50 GB FC LUNS from our SAN (Hardware RAID5). There are shared to ESX server and presented to the Solaris VM as Raw Device Mappings (no VMFS).
I set up a simple script to create 3000 ZFS filesystem home directories

done
The first 1000 created very quickly.
By the time I reached about 2000 each filesystem was taking almost 5 seconds to create. Way too long. I gave up after about 2500.
So I rebooted.
The 2500 ZFS filesystems mounted in about 4 seconds, so no problem there.
The problem I have is why do the ZFS file system creation time drop of and become unworkable? I tried again to add to the pool after reboot and there was the same slow creation time.
Am I better off with just one ZFS file system with 60,000 userquotas applied and lots of ordinary user home directories created under that with mkdir?

How to use remote managed bean and JPA in JSF

Hi All,
I am familiar with referencing backing-beans and JPA properties where Glassfish and MySQL is running locally. However, is it possible to lookup these same properties using JNDI if they reside on remote servers? If so, what change is needed?
I would like to distribute the J2EE 5 application load including database by running Glassfish, MySQL on separate servers. This will put on the JSF (presentation-tier) components on it's own server while a secondary system will handle the middle tier processing and leaving the database activities to be carried out on another server. Not sure whether this is the right approach though. These hardware would run on both Solaris and Windows platforms.
Unfortunately, buying faster hardware is not an option.
Any assistance would be appreciated,

Home Directory for AD on remote machine

Hi,
Requirement is like this:-
As user is provisioned to AD a home directory for user is created on remote computer with name of user. I had wrriten a VB script to create a folder in users folder(folder already shared) on remote machine. I am able to sucessfully create the folder when i run script through command prompt. Now i write a java code to run the script with following command in java code.

I am able to run the java code from eclispe and folder is created in users folder on remote machine.
Now i had added a process task in AD process form and attached the adapter in which this java code is executed to run the script and i called this on response code (sucessfully provisioned) of AD .now when i provisoned user to AD process is called but error is their as cmd is not a command on linux... how can i run the script on linux.
2) If folder users folder is not shared i have to give permissions on folder to particular user with userid and password to create its home directory in it how can i achieve this using vbscript??

I assume you are creating folders in a file server and its a windows machine , is it ?
You can install a remote manager on file server or on any other machine in network and execute your scripts remotely using remote manager
Also you can execute your script like wscript c:\CreateFolder.vbs

Define a remote linux nfs home directory for an open directory's user

Hi,
I want to migrate from nis to open directory. Everything but "auto homes" looks good. As I create a user with the workgroup manager, under the 'Home' tab, I'm unable to specify a remotre nfs home directory(linux).
So, I want client01(linux) to authenticate on macsvr01(mac osX 10.6.2 / opendirectory). When authenticated, I want macsvr01 to tell client01 that it's home directory is hosted nfs on linuxsvr01(linux nfs file server).
When i look the workgroup manager, the only possibility seems to be 'afp'.
When I try to specificy nfs entries, I can't validate my setting because the 'Ok' button remains grayed out.
Any suggestions?

You can install a remote manager on file server or on any other machine in network and execute your scripts remotely using remote manager

Could someone tell me where I can find more information of how to use remote management that is under system preferences, sharing. What is the difference between screen sharing and remote management? It will be a great help as I am learning my way round my mybook and this feature would be of great help.

Open System Preferences (Applications folder) and click the Sharing icon. Very bottom right of that window click the ? mark. That will prompt the Help Viewer for the Sharing preferences. You can type in keywords at the top of that window in the search field. Example: Remote Management

Getting the current Home directory in PackageMaker

Hi all,
My package works fine to install a folder in /Library and then set two keys in Loginwindow's defaults file. Even internet-enabled disk image works great.
My problem is, and I've tried now for 2 days to read everything on this, is that I want my install to place an "uninstaller" script on the user's Desktop so the user can easily reverse what the installer did (remove 2 keys and remove the folder in /Library). No problem, this script works fine when run by itself.
But I can't figure out for the life of me how to specify to PackageMaker "home directory of the current user/Desktop" as the install location of this "uninstaller" file. I tried "~/Desktop" and "$HOME/Desktop" in the PackageMaker "destination" field, and also tried making a hierarchy of "~" and "Desktop" folders, and also tried setting the destination to "." and blank. All of these resulted in the Installer making a new directory called "~" at the root of the volume, or one named "$HOME", or just placing the script on the root of the volume. I want it on the user's Desktop, so they will see it. (NOTE: when trying these Unix terms, I was making a separate .pkg for the uninstaller; I know you can't have 2 different install locations in the same package.)
Is this (getting the path to the user's Desktop) possible with PackageMaker, or do I have to have my "postinstall" script for the main install literally create the uninstall script at the user's Desktop (because the "~" notation should be recognized in a shell script)?
I can't figure out why PackageMaker does not recognize the "~" as being the user's home directory - it uses "/" and ".." as defaults sometimes, so it is using the Unix notation.
Also, since the uninstall script is a shell script, if the user double-clicks it, it opens Terminal, which is un-elegant to say the least. Is there a flag that can be set in a shell script which tells it NOT to open Terminal, just to run? I know this is what happens if I wrap it in AppleScript, but I hate using kludges like that.

I have a tech support incident ongoing with ADC about this. People are away for the holidays, but so far I have been able to confirm that PackageMaker itself can't do this, as the name of the current user isn't available, nor do paths to the current Home directory work.
The only way is to have PackageMaker launch a preinstall shell or Applescript that does the "mv <item1> <item2>" or similar (the argument $1 that gets passed to these preinstall scripts IS the name of the user doing the install, so you can get the path to his home directory).
The problem THEN becomes, PackageMaker will not build a package that contains only scripts - it HAS to have some "payload" or you will get a build error. So the ultimate kludge would be to have it run the preinstall script, give it a bogus payload (empty file, etc) to install in e.g., /Library or /Applications, then have the postinstall script delete that bogus payload. I have not tried this so I do not know if it would work.
I am thinking now, with the extremely confusing and apparently contradictory rules that PackageMaker has, that the best way to install software is just to wrap a shell script in an Applescript Application Bundle wrapper (because you can't double-click a shell script without launching Terminal, so to have the user run a shell script you need to wrap it in Automator or AppleScript or a Cocoa app wrapper) and have the shell script do the copying of the files that you need. This still might result in the shell script trying to get some sort of permission (either sudo or that "Override user/group for xxx?" message).
I have read the rules on permissions for Packages about 1,017 times and they still make absolutely no sense to me, and I understand Unix permissions completely. All they would have to do is give some examples, but they don't.
