Hopefully a simple q about encoding multiple FCP sequences as DVD

Hi there
I need to know if it is possible to queue sequences output from FCP to Compressor. I will explain:
For our current DVD project there are 4 or 5 sequences to export to DVD and I'd like to be able to set them all away encoding on an evening and come back the next morning to have them all done.
It seems that when you export a sequence to Compressor, FCP won't respond until that sequence has been fully encoded, meaning you have to wait for it to encode before sending the next sequence.
Is there a way around this?
Thanks
jON

Jon
I use to encode from outside FCP, but "I think" you can queue new exports in FCP while you don't submit the batch . . . but I never did it.
You can export your sequences as Quicktime Movie, same settings (including DVDSP chapter markers) and if you have space self contained.
Then you can drag and drop all your movies in Compressor and submit all as a batch.
Hope it helps !

  • Hello.  How do I get my FCP sequence into DVD Studio Pro?  I've tried exporting as QT movie, then importing as  asset, am told format is incompatible.

    Trying to get my HD sequence in FCP to burn to DVD.  How to accomplish this?  I export sequence as Quicktime movie, try to import as as asset, after a couple minutes a window says "format incompatible" or something to that effect.
    Also, in FCP the canvas only shows timeline video when it's playing.  When stopped, blank screen -- how do I fix this?
    Many thanks.

    #42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
    Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
    The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
    NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • Hopefully a simple question about gotoAndPlay

    trying to learn as3. i have 3 movie clips (green, blue, red). i want to mouseover them and have them grow a little bit. i made the tween and it looks fine. but the animation started right away (even with this code) and kept repeating over and over. i opened my movie clips and added stop(); to the first frame. and i made the gotoAndPlay start from frame 2. did i do it right? it traces the "green" "blue", and "red". but when i mouseover the movieclips, nothing happens.
    green.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, over_green)
    function over_green(event:Event):void
      trace("GREEN");
      gotoAndPlay(2);
    blue.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, over_blue)
    function over_blue(event:Event):void
      trace("BLUE");
      gotoAndPlay(2);
    red.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, over_red)
    function over_red(event:Event):void
      trace("RED");
      gotoAndPlay(2);
    thanks for bearing with me. i'm trying to learn.

    If the self-animation has stopped since adding the stop(); then probably all you need to do next is to target the objects (if those are what you want to animate)...  as in...
    green.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, over_green)
    function over_green(event:Event):void
      trace("GREEN");
      green.gotoAndPlay(2);
    If that isn't the intention, then explain what you are trying to animate.

  • Using Automator to go from a FCP Sequence to DVD

    I'm not very familiar with Automator, is it possible to have a edited sequence in Final Cut Pro and be able to go directly to a burned DVD without requiring any user input? (For example, have a edited sequence and start a action, leave it alone and be able to come back and have a burned DVD.)
    Thanks!

    Yeah it is pretty easy to make a DVD Studio Pro project with only a single video that plays right away...but I have to do this each week and was hoping automator could help out.
    (With creating a DVD, there are two main steps, [1] Encoding the Video files through compressor and [2] Setting up and burning a DVD. I have to be at the computer to start the whole process and be there when it's finished to grab the DVD, but was hoping I wouldn't need to be there in between, allowing Automator to take the exported mpeg2 file and pop it into DVD Studio Pro and burn it out.)

  • I simply need help placing my FCP sequence on DVD - The basics

    Hello All,
    I've completed a sequence on FCP that I would like to place on DVD. I have followed the instructions in Final Cut Pro - Beyond the Basics, but apparently I'm not. The files are showing up on the DVD, but the file transfer process never stops. When I force a quit, and open one of the icons on the DVD (I believe one is sound, and the other video) The compressor program opens, but nothing happens as expected. I'm sure this should be easier, but I may be moving down the wrong path. Can someone provide a road sign, a map, GPS, ...?
    I know this is vague, but I am utterly confused. My aplogies.
    Thanks.

    Hello David,
    Thanks for the quick reply. To be honest, I've been working out of the Apple Pro Training Series books, as they were a bit more user friendly. I'll go back to the manuals. As far as versions of software is concerned. It's all new stuff, purchased in the last month: OS X (10.4.10), FCP 6.0, etc.
    The sequence is DV/DVCPro - NTSC

  • 2 Hour FCP Sequence to DVD Studio Pro?

    Hello.
    So i've got a 2 hour sequence in my FCP, and I want to put it to DVD using DVDSP. I'm using 4.7 GB DVD's. Thoughts on how best to do this?

    Have you read through the 'how to create a dvd using dvdsp' in the manual?
    Lots of good basic advice included there.
    Once you've read through that and have a grasp of the basic concepts, post back for a detailed explanation of the nuances between your options.
    Good luck,

  • Mystery Snafu Burning FCP Sequence to DVD

    In burning a DVD for a client today, I discovered a heretofore undiscovered catastrophe: archive footage that was supplied by the client stuttered and looked horrible in my sequence when played on our commercial DVD player. It played fine on the computer.
    Details: Sequence is DV-NTSC. Rendered at Apple ProRes 422; YUV material all rendered in high-precision YUV; Motion Filtering Quality BEST. Exported Quicktime Movie using Current Settings. Brought QT into Compressor using preset DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes. Brought video and audio into DVD Studio Pro standard settings. Built/Formatted. Everything looked good in Preview at every stage.
    When I played the DVD on our commercial DVD player (older model), all the video looked fine except the archive video we got from the client. I am told this looks fine in a computer's DVD drive.
    So, where did I go wrong? Might it have been during the capture process (it came on a DV tape)? If so, why does it look OK on the computer? And why does everything look fine in Preview, but not in the final burned disk?
    Thanks for any light you can shed.

    The manual was for Quantel's Harry NLE and referrred to a function "Inv Dom".
    +"The Inv Dom (invert dominance) function inverts the field dominance of a clip. It can sometimes happen (for example due to the incorrect setting of a Telecine machine or VCR) that the fields composing a frame are incorrectly paired, giving a juddery effect when played. This box (see below) corrects this by re-pairing the fields the other way round."+
    This function is also present in other Quantel products and repeated verbatim in the associated manuals. So it looks like they are talking about what Oliver calls field order on the Cow thread.
    Clarification: The term +"This box"+ refers to the Quantel's GUI -a collection of rectangular boxes containing the name of the function available, occupying the lower 1/4 of the user's monitor.
    [Example here|http://www.quantel.com/repository/images/productprimattesoftwarekeyer.jpg] if you really want to see it.

  • How To: Online a FCP sequence

    Hi,
    I have heard a few various ways to go about onlining a FCP sequence, I was wondering if someone who's fluid in this workflow could explain the follwing sequence:
    I've captured all my footage using a DV codec, and have since edited 2 hours to 4 minutes. I want to online that 4 min sequence to Uncompressed 10 bit...what is the proper way to go about onlining just those four minutes and not all of my footage...media manager?
    please help.
    thank you,
    John
    dual 1.8mhz, 2gb ram,   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    You can start with either deleting your original media or not. Unless you need the space, it doesn't matter. With the original project open, open a new project. Drag the sequence you want to recapture in the new project (thereby copying it.). Select it and choose Media Manager from the file menu or by right (control) clicking on it. Choose "make offline", and "delete unused media". If you look at the media bar at the top of the window, the bar should reflect just the media you'll need for recapturing. Hit OK, and you'll get a bin full of the clips you need.

  • A simple question about performance!

    Hi! I have a simple question about performance. Suppouse that you have a servlet or a class with DB access, and you need to use a value several times in that page. What is best, to assign the value from say, a resultset or a request.getParameter() to a variable or to call the resultset or the request every time you need to retrieve that value? Which option uses less memory, which is faster, etc.?
    Hoping the best fou u
    Raul

    If you need more values from a db, the best is to open some connections (connection pool) and use the for accessing the db.
    To get the data only once, open the connection, get the data, store the data whereever you want: variable (class), hidden control (if you want to send from one page to another by request) and close the connection as quicky as possible.
    The advantage of the first method is that the most time consuming activity (connections opening) is done only once.

  • If FF is set to "Never Remember History" and I try to close it with multiple tabs open, it doesn't warn me first. If it remembers history, it warns me about closing multiple tabs. I want that warning AND Don't Remember History back again!

    At work I set my PC to not remember history for privacy reasons.
    I always have many tabs open, and the warning about closing multiple tabs was a good thing - but now it only works if it remembers history!
    I have the "Warn me when closing...." box checked AND all of the lines in about:config regarding these warnings are set to true. I have tried turning it off and back on, restarted the PC.
    I discovered this yesterday with FF 3.something, tried updating to FF4.

    The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
    Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
    If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
    "Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
    You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

    I have a question about using multiple ipads in our school.  Each of our teachers have a iPad and AppleTV in their classroom.  The issue is, with our classrooms so close in proximity to one another, is there a way to pair teacher #1 iPad to its AppleTV without effecting/projecting onto the adjacent teachers #2 classroom AppleTV?

    Not as such.
    Give the AppleTV units unique names and also enable Airplay password in settings with unique passwords for each teacher.

  • Multiple FCP projects presets saving in original settings

    I have multiple FCP projects running on seperate hard disks. Each disk is 2TB for video content. For example Project X is on 1st disk & Project Y is on 2nd disk.
    Issue I'm having is when setting the capture presets, etc for X, they are on disk 1. However when I go to disk 2 to work on Y, the presets are now set to disk 1! I can't have the presets for Y landing in X cause when I store X on a back up drive, the Y project spends forever trying to find all the "off line" info.
    I need all the presets for each project to stay with that project and drive. So no matter when I open a project, no matter what drive it's on, all the info stays with that project and not another project. I've had this problem for years and it's a pain in the *** trying to keep my projects seperated since more & more are running at the same time.
    I actually have (3) 2TB drives for individual projects and a 500GB Main drive for my applications.
    Is there a way to have mutiple FCP projects on seperate drives, without having to constantly keep changing the presets so one project doesn't overlap to the another project.

    My experience is that you have to change your presets and where your scrach drive is going. So when working on project X save to drive 1. and on project Y save to drive 2. Then reset your presets when switching projects. I agree this is a pain but it is the only way I have found. Just keep doing what you have been doing. Let me know if you find a solution for this.

  • Simple question about mount and delay script

    Hello, I have a simple question about mounting volumes on start up.
    My computer wakes up auto - and then auto there are serveral applescript tasks (mount and start up programs)
    I use this script (daily) for serveral connections with external volumes I always need the connect to. ( In the script I use this code 3 times for other locations) I do this on start up.
    set Uname to "XXX"
    set Pword to "XXX"
    set someVolume to "afp://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/XXX/XXX
    mount volume someVolume as user name Uname with password Pword
    (same code for 2 other locations)
    When i do this on start up sometimes the script says there is no connection possible. I guess it's because on start up the connection isn't there. And 1 minute later when computer is total ready the connection is ok. When I run the script then It works. Just sometimes ( In the morning) 'It' want to connect but the script stops. When i do it manually(I run the script again) it works just fine.
    Is it possible that I need a delay? Can someone explain this?
    How would I make a delay handler for this script? Is that the best solution?
    Thanks in advance. This is something small i'm wondering about.
    Colin

    BTW, If you saved the script as an application +(and not as an application bundle)+ you could drop the script on to *Drop Script Backgrounder* (freeware).
    Then the script would run in the background, so, you wouldn't see it running in the Finder.

  • HT2470 how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them part of 1 master file

    how would i go about taking multiple files from documents and make them into 1 master file? I want to put all documents associated with this project together for easier access.

    From the finder window, click File, click new folder, you can drag all documents into that Folder making it the master folder. You can ajso drag folders into the Master folder, and have them as sub-folders if you wish to  do that. Either way they will all be in one master folder.

  • Faster method of encoding from FCP

    I posted this in compressor forum as well.
    I've been encoding from FCP 5.0.2 by exporting to compressor. Using my G5 dual 2.7 - my 3 minute credits sequence took approx. 35 minutes to encode.
    For other reasons, I exported the sequence to a self-contained QT movie at current settings. Then dragged it into compressor...the same sequence then encoded in approx 4 minutes.
    4 vs. 35? Why is this. I'm burning a DVD of both right now to see if there is a quality difference. Is this documented else where? Have others done this with similar results?

    I always export a QT movie (usually not self contained unless I also need to render it all) then import that file into Compressor for the speed difference, and encoding isn't using much RAM at all... check out the Activity monitor... it's using CPU cycles though big time. And the slowness is most likely the feeding from FCP to Compressor. Quality difference is null as far as I've seen.... exporting a movie using current settings, self contained or not is the cleanest export, because it doesn't recompress the media at all, it's a perfect copy... Animation is lossless but it's sure is a big file for no gain in this scenario...
    Non self contained movies use the actual media files created by or captured by FCP so there's no loss whatsoever... The only media they actually contain is the audio and any unrendered effects full res RT or not... it will render them all...
