Host command through java stored procedure

Hi All,
Im trying to execute the winword command to open a MSWord document, print & exit the document, through dos prompt, from client pc to the default printer, through java stored procedure oracle pl/sql forms.
How can achieve this? Kindly help.

If you have configured webutil without any problems then i presume you have configured jacob.jar file too for Client_ole2 to function properly you need to have jacob.jar and jacob.dll files.
There are so many topics in this forum for Client_Ole2. Just simply search. :)

I am using Oracle 9i DB. I created a java stored procedure to send mail using the code given below. The java class works fine standalone. When its run from Java, mail is sent as desired. But when the java stored procedure is called from pl/sql "Must issue a STARTTLS command first" error is thrown. Please let me know if am missing something. Tried the same code in 11.2.0.2 DB and got the same error

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have seen that post before creating this thread. I thought that I could make use of java mail to work around this problem. I created a java class that succesfully sends mail to SSL host. I tried to call this java class from pl-sql through java stored procedure. That did not work
So, is this not supported in Oracle ? Please note that I have tested this in both 9i and 11g , in both the versions I got the error. You can refer to the code in the above post.

Runtime.Exec() fails -- Through java stored procedure in Oracle8i

I HAVE A JAVA STORED PROCEDURE WHICH EXECUTES
A HOST COMMAND USING Runtime.Exec().
BUT IT IS NOT WORKING.
RIGHTS FOR THE USER HAVE BEEN GIVEN USING
Dbms_grant_persmission(). The database in on
SUN SOLARIS. THE EXITVALUE OF THE RUNTIME.EXEC COMMAND IS 255(SEGMENTATION
ERROR - CORE DUMPED).
PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES. THE FUNCTION IS WORKING WELL IF THE DATABASE IS ON NT PLATFORM BUT FAILS TO WORK WHEN I STORED THE PROCEDURE IN A DATABASE RUNNING ON SUN SOLARIS AND TRIED TO EXECUTE A SOLARIS COMMAND THROUGH THE PROCEDURE.

Invoking Unix command with java stored procedure

Hi,
I have a perfectly working environment and now I am trying to replicate the same in another server. I have a java stored procedure which invokes the Unix command using java Runtime.exec() in my code named "run". I am sure that the code is called and the java class run is resolved in oracle as I could see that in dba_java_resolvers dictionary. But I am not sure whether the function in java is called or whether a exception is thrown. how to identify this? Could there be any thing to do with settings in oracle side? please help me.

Do you get any output while running the code?
I'm testing similar solution and if there are any errors or Oracle can't execute the program due to permissions or other issues the error information will be displayed. Also in the Java class itself you need to catch exceptions and print stack trace to standard output.

Invoking a UNIX shell command from Java stored procedure

The program below is suppose do send an email using UNIX mailx program. It works correctly when I compile it in UNIX and invoke it from the command line by sending an email to the given address.
I need this program to run as a stored procedure, however. I deploy it as such and try to invoke it. It prints the results correctly to the standard output. It does not send any emails, however. One other difference in execution is that when invoked from the command line, the program takes about a minute to return. When invoked as a stored procedure in PL/SQL program or SQL*Plus anonymous block, it returns immediately.
Why would mailx invocation not work from a stored procedure? Are there other ways to invoke mailx from PL/SQL?

try adding the full explicit path to "mailx" in the command string that gets sent to Runtime. i would guess that the shell that gets spawned might not have a proper environment and thus mailx might not be found.

Issue with XSL transformation in Java Stored Procedure

Am having issue applying XSL transformation in Java Stored procedure. I have loaded the java class as well as .XSL files through loadjava uility and their status in DB is VALID.
Below is the code in the java stored procedure:

Running ls command from Java stroed procedure no output

Actually, the question of whether it works for me seems to depend on the version of the OS (or Oracle). On RedHat Linux (Oracle 8.1.6) it didn't work at all, but on Solaris (Oracle 9.0.2) it did. Here's the output from that run:

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
But, I did need to change a line of your code to this:

your original was:
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("ls");
You might consider, if possible, use of some of the Java File classes instead of ls, as this might make things more predictable for you. There were some examples in oramag.com a few months ago, but they were pretty simple (you might not need them).

Can you connect to the MSSQL database from inside Oracle in (say) a SQL*Plus or SQL Developer session?
In other words, is the problem in the Java or the database linkages? Are you using Heterogeneous Services or Transparent Gateways?

Java App connection to an Oracle Database through Oracle Stored Procedure

My team's access to its Databases (Oracle only) is restricted to access through Oracle Stored Procedures that are part of the Oracle Database. So, in my Java App I need to call the Stored Procedure that will give me the access to the table that I need, declare the right parameters and execute the command. The Stored Procedure will then hand me the data I need.
I am finding support on the web for creating Stored Procedures in Java, but that is not what I need.
Can anyone post here a class that addresses this, or point me to a link that will shed some light on it?

Query on Java Stored Procedures

I am new to this concept.
I was trying to write a Java Stored Procedure and when i was loading the java class file using loadjava utility class i am finding problems .
Whether i need to include any jars for this because i tried following command through command prompt

I am getting the error like "loadjava" is not recognized as internal or external command.

I searched for "loadjava.exe" but it was not there and so i installed a new version of Oracle 9i. and platform is Windows XP.
Then I found it and i successfully loaded the class file and i also published it but when i tried to call the procedure i am getting SQL Exceptions.

My guess is that there is a problem with your java stored procedure that is causing the "ExceptionInInitializer" error to be thrown. According to the javadoc:
is thrown to indicate that an exception occurred during
evaluation of a static initializer or
the initializer for a static variable
Since I didn't see any of your code in your post, I can't help you much more, I'm afraid. Perhaps if you would provide some more details, I may be able to help you some more. I think the following details would be helpful:
1. Complete error message and stack trace you are getting.
2. The section of your java code that you think is causing the problem.
3. Oracle database version you are using.

APEX fails with Java stored procedure that creates a JDBC connection

We are facing a strange problem since we have upgraded from Oracle 10g and Apache to Oracle 11g with Embedded Gateway.
Here is what we do:

This procedure used to work fine before the upgrade, but now we see the following:
* It still works when called directly from TOAD or SQL*Plus, even under the user ANONYMOUS.
* When called from APEX and the target database is Oracle 11g, it still works.
* When called from APEX and the target database is Oracle 10g, it takes several minutes and we receive this error:
*"Socket read timed out"*
We have tested the following workaround:
We have created a database link to our own database and called the stored procedure through that database link.
FILE_READER_REMOTE_API.openConnection*@loopback*(user, password, host, port, service);
This works, but is not really an option.
I hope some one of you can explain this strange behaviour to me.

"If you create Java class files on the client side, you can use loadjava to upload them into the RDBMS. Alternatively, you can upload Java source files and let the Aurora JVM compile them. In most cases, it is best to compile and debug programs on the client side, then upload the class files for final testing within the RDBMS"
This means that you can create shared classes that are used on both the client and server side. The source does not need to reside within the server (according to their documentation). Please also note the following from the Oracle8i JDBC Developer's Guide and Reference Release 8.1.5 A64685-01 for using the getConnection() method on the server:
"If you connect to the database with the DriverManager.getConnection() method, then use the connect string jdbc:oracle:kprb:. For example:
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:kprb:");
Note that you could include a user name and password in the string, but because you are connecting from the server, they would be ignored."
So if you're coding a shared class that is to run on both the client and server side, you might do something like this:

Invoking "java myClass" using Runtime.Exec from a Java Stored Procedure

Hi All,
This is regarding the use of Runtime.getRunTime().exec, from a java programme (a Java Stored Procedure), to invoke another Java Class in command prompt.
I have read many threads here where people have been successuful in invoking OS calls, like any .exe file or batch file etc, from withing Java using the Runtime object.
Even i have tried a sample java programme from where i can invoke notepad.exe.
But i want to invoke another command prompt and run a java class, basically in this format:
{"cmd.exe","java myClass"}.
When i run my java programme (in command prompt), it doesnt invoke another command prompt...it just stays hanging.
When i run the java programme from my IDE, VisualCafe, it does open up a command prompt, but doesnt get the second command "java myCLass".
Infact on the title of the command prompt (the blue frame), shows the path of the java.exe of the Visual Cafe.
and anyway, it doesnt run my java class, that i have specified inside the programme.
Even if i try to run a JAR file, it still doesnt do anything.
(the JAR file other wise runs fine when i manually invoke it from the command prompt).
Well, my question is, actually i want to do this from a Java Stored Procedure inside oracle 8.1.7.
My feeling is, since the Java Stored Procedure wont be running from the command prompt (i will be actually invoking it through a Oracle trigger), it may be able to invoke the command prompt and run the java class i want. and that java class has to run with the SUn's Java, not Oracle JAva.
Does any one have any idea about it?
Has anyone ever invoked a java class or JAR file in command prompt from another Java Programme?
YOur help will be highly appreciated.
(P:S- Right now, my database is being upgraded, so i havent actually been able to create a Java Stored procedure and test it. But i have tested from a normal java programme running in command prompt and also from Visual Cafe).

Transactional file output from a Java Stored Procedure invoked by trigger.

I need to write information to a file from a Java Stored
Procedure which is called from an insert trigger. This works OK
except for the condition when a rollback is performed - the file
is updated anyway.
I need the Java Stored Procedure file output to be part of the
transaction - performed on commit and skipped on rollback. Is
there any way the Java Stored Procedure can be aware of the
state of the transaction?

i am Still facing the following problem:
if i pass a parameter like :
rm -f /test/menu.ksh
then the required output is that the menu.ksh file gets deleted.
but when i pass this command:
./test/menu.ksh
It is supposed to execute the specified script but it does not.
I have tried multiple things like giving chmod 777 rights to the following file and changing the command to /test/menu.ksh but nothing happens
