How are user-entered MIME applications defined to open certain file types. This used to be standard in browsers.

In the not-terribly-recent past, browser Preferences allowed users to create associations between a file type (really, a file extension indicating its type) with an application used to run that type of file. Firefox seems to have buried this (on the Mac) in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/... ;in which seem to be an xml file.
Is it possible to edit this xml file directly, and if so, where in the xml file should a new entry be placed, and what is the explicit syntax of an entry (other than obviously copying present entries)?

I am trying to use a rather older programming language called Mozart, an extension of OZ. I installed it as a binary, but instead of storing its component binaries in a place like /usr/local/oz/bin/. they are all enclosed inside the /Applications/Mozart.app/Contents/Resources/bin/. which cannot be opened nor can a soft link be made to it located outside the Mozart.app wrapper.
The only alternative is to try to edit the mimeTypes.rdf files, and give it the full path name to the inside of Mozart.app were the program used for web applications is stored. It is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Mozart/, which can only be accessed in more recent Mac OS X by going to finder and holding the Option key while opening the Go menu; this will make the ~/Library visible and accessible.

Pick a representative file.
Get info. (Command-i)
There you will see a place "Open with" where you can select the application for that file.
Hit the "Change all..." button to do this for all files of this type.

This is a difficult question, since it is both technical and legal.
The absolute maximum number of connections is around 32700, but unless your server is very beefy, it will choke long before that. A connection is not a user - an application can have many connections for the same user. Depending on your license
model, you may be legally limited to a certain number of users, but this number is not enforced technially.

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage. There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

Help - "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed."

Hello,
I searched this site and google for this error terminology and come up dry. I support a user who has been for years using Acrobat 5 (yes, I know...) to read files in a client DB program, as well as other PDF files on their PC. In the last week or so, they have started gatting this error "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed." any time they attempt to open a PDF file attached to an email (via Outlook).
It is my understanding that they cannot upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat because of limitations of their client software, but had not previously had any issues viewing PDF notes from the DB, and PDF attachments in their email.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, as well as tried using Adobe Reader 7 & 9 in conjunction with Acrobat to try to get around this issue, but have not been successful.
Any ideas?

I don't have an answer to your technical problem. The product I assume is Acrobat that you are talking about (based on the post title), Adobe is the company name. This is a good place to ask questions on Acrobat if folks can figure out what you are talking about. They will ask for the product version number (like AA9.3.3), operating system, and other applications if appropriate. Also, just what you are doing that generates the message.
As for Adobe, you are not likely to get an answer from them here in the user forum. You will be lucky if you can get an answer if you can contact them and not be on hold for more than an hour (sorry, this is why a lot of folks end up in the forum).
So, to help others try to answer your question, what are the products and versions involved? What OS? What are you doing when the message comes up.

"application cannot be found" when trying to open certain files

Recently i upgraded my computer to Mavericks recently and I've been having a problem opening certain files. In one day I upgraded to Mavericks and I also updated my Adobe programs to the Creative Cloud. Ever since then I cannot open any of my Adobe files. They are all saved as under the CS4 legacy format. I uninstalled CS4 after installing the Creative Cloud. Every time I try to open one of these files previously created in CS4, whether it is a photoshop ot illustrator file, I get the error message "The application cannot be found". I also can see no preview or thumbnails for the files. I talked to Adobe Support and we went through a process of deleting my preferences and it didn't work. I restarted my machine and it worked. It worked for a day and now after starting up my machine today it is saying the same thing again. After a while it just out of nowhere started working again. I'll be clear and say that I was logged into my adobe account and there were no network interuptions.
By the way, the new versions (Creative Cloud) of the adobe programs all work just fine and If I save something then it works fine. It is only when trying to read a file from a previous format.

If you are attempting to start Adobe Creative Cloud by opening a file created by its previous version, open the Adobe Creative Cloud app first, then choose Open from its File menu and select the old file. The files you are attempting to open were associated with the version you used to create them, which is now gone.
After opening them, save them again. From then on, opening them will probably open Adobe CC directly.

When in iPhoto (photos, library, an album, whatever, etc.) and I try to position the thumbnails at the top of the page I am unable to do so. In the "View" menu of iPhoto, then "Thumbnails" at the bottom, then all the items in the menu are grayed out. I have tried to go to iPhoto prefences and try there, but no luck. I get the beachball turning for a few minutes, then it stops, but still no luck.

Yes, cmd-option on a file you choose in Spotlight and the path will appear at the bottom of the Preview window.
EDIT: Also, if it is bookmarked the path is in Bookmarks.

I am so frustrated about Adobe Flash player. I can not play any Facebook games, open certain files and pictures and documents that I need to access because not only does this phone not do it but my old Palm Pre couldn't do it either. I have had so many times where I needed to access things either online or via email, or message that I can not even look at because of this. I have to wait until I for home or ask someone else to do it for me which is embarrassing. I rave about my iPhone 4S all the time because it is truly great except for this. When it use to happen with my Pal Pre I figures once I got my iPhone that it wouldn't happen anymore but I guess I was completely wrong. I have had this problem for years and always get a message saying that it's being worked on. Well a couple of years is a long time to work on it. I understand about contracts and stuff but why is it taking a company such as Apple to be able to get it for their products? I get a lot and always want to play the games on Facebook but I can't do it on most of them at least the ones I have tried. So I can not play against anyone at that time I have to wait until I get home or use someone else's computer or something. Please tell me that in the extremely near future that this will not be a problem anymore. PLEASE!! I am sure I am not the only one out there who is having issues and if you do get it available please let there be an upload/upgrade for current phones and not just for future versions of Apple phones. That just wouldnt be very fair to all of your loyal customers and tell everyone to get your products because they are great and end up leaving this little problem out until they by your phone. Especially if they just got the phone they have. You guys are awesome with technology I have faith that you can make this available to all Apple products old and new by uploads or upgrades. Thank you hopefully can give me some info about the status with this or if there wen is one. I would have thought that being a company such as you are that it would already be taking care of right from the beginning and not wait years to take care of somewhat that is very important ro have especially when there is so much our there using Adobe Flash now.
