How can I disable the plugin-container.exe that, runs in the background?

Every time I click on a url, the browser freezes up momentarily and then loads the page and this is constant and I have the feeling is because of plugin-container.exe running in the background. Please advice. Thanks!!
[email protected]

That process is from firefox, firefox now loads the plugins in another proccess.
Try to start firefox in safe mode to check if that process runs again.

  • The plugin-container.exe is using 100% cpu usage???

After I open a few different pages or tabs within the pages, the plugin-container.exe max's my cpu usage and the system hangs horribly. It comes back and then hangs again. The plugin-container is reasonable new, because I don't recall seeing it in the Task Manager. Is there a way to fix this?? I know it's related to some apple piece of garbage software that I could totally do without if that helps.
    Thanks

Plugin-container was introduced in Firefox 3.6.4 to run certain plugins in isolation from the browser, so that when an offending plugin crashes, it does not crash the entire browser, just the tab with the offending plugin. There is information about plugin-container and a method to disable plugin-container in the following article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins
If you disable plugin-container, your entire browser will crash if a plugin crashes. If you choose to disable plugin-container, restart Firefox to be sure that plugin-container closes; once started, plugin-container remains open until you restart Firefox.

  • Why does FireFox freeze and the only way to unfreeze it is to open the task manager and close the plugin-container.exe file??? It has been happening more and more often and it is getting VERY AGGRAVATING!!!!!

When Firefox does freeze (not responding appears in parentheses in the page tab) I am not able to access any of the webpages (the entire webpage is hidden behind a vaguely white transparent foreground) and more often than not any files I might be downloading are stopped before the entire file has been transferred - which means that I have to start those downloads from the beginning AGAIN. This has been happening for quite some time and I AM SICK AND TIRED OF IT HAPPENING!!
If it continues to happen for much longer I will swear off FireFox FOREVER!!!!! Either a program works or it does not work and lately Firefox has not worked worth a damn...........
The ONLY way to force Firefox to allow me to access it is for me to end the plugin-container.exe file process using Task Manager. Clearing there is a SERIOUS problem here that has not been resolved - why not???

The pluging container opens up unnecessary copies as the cookies/history are cleared, this is a known issue, it might be what you are seeing, and it is hoped to be fixed in some future release of firerox.
There are some hangs affecting some users, with symptoms being high cpu usage, occurring as bookmark changes or syncing is in progress, there is a work around for that.

  • What causes multiple "plugin-container.exe" to run simultaneously?

I sometimes have up to four "plugin-containers" running simultaneously. What causes that AND what are the possible ramifications of that?

plugins like flash & java etc that are currently running on sites are outsourced into the plugin-container.exe-process that you've discovered for performance and stability reasons - you can have a look at your currently installed plugins in tools > addons > plugins & disable those you don't need.
in one of the upcoming releases firefox will ship with a feature that allows you to enable plugins on vistited sites on a per-demand basis, [https://wiki.mozilla.org/Opt-in_activation_for_plugins]

  • Firfox slowing way down or hanging and task manager has multiple sessions of "plugin-container.exe *32" running.

I'm running Win 7, Firefox 10.0.2 and all my plug-ins are up to date. I'm having issues with Firfox slowing way down or hanging, let say like when going to Youtube or site that just has a picture that uses Flash. I go to task manager and have multiple sessions of “plugin-container.exe *32" running at anywhere from 2,000k to over 300,000k (only one at the larger amount and most at 2m to 8m). I have to kill the multiple processes to get it running right again.

    Hi kb11,
Have you looked at our [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-slow-or-takes-too-long-start performance troubleshooting section]? There is a lot of good information in there that should help.

  • How to solve hanging problem caused by the plugin-container.exe (instruction 0x0276609c)?

    To whom it may concern,
I am not sure about the cause, however I have experienced hanging of the programme repeatedly. I have not been able to solve it otherwise than by ending the process via task manager (I am using Firefox 4.0.1 running on Win XP SP2). After doing so, a message appeared saying this:
    "sw: plugin-container.exe application error
Instruction at the address 0x0276609c referred to the memory address 0x00000014. Impossible to execute memory operation: read. End the programme by clicking on the OK button."

The crashes are intrusive but Firefox itself is not usually affected - so isolating the plugins works as intended.

  • After a personas update, FF is unresponsive bc of plugincontainer error, so i have to have 2 FF open to have a browswer that works. How do i fix the plugin container so it launches right the 1st time?

Started happening after the latest personas update. Whenever i 1st launch FF it just becomes completely unresponsive, i can't even close it w/out having to use task manager. However if i keep the 1st FF open and launch it again, the 2nd FF works just fine- no problems what so ever! BUT i can not close the 1st FF (using task manager) w/out it automatically closing the 2nd. Which means i have to have two browsers open to have just one working one. When i tried to see what the heck is the problem with the 1st FF it says it's a plugin-container.exe error- so how is it that the 2nd launched browser works???
I created a dump file for anyone smart enough to analyze it- but have nooo idea how or where to upload it lol.

Look in your device manager and find out what brand of hard drive you have (Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba etc.) Go to the manufacturer's website and download their hard drive certification test (free). Run the test on your drive so you can feel that it is not the hard drive. Then run the HP memory test from your utility partition (I think you hit F10 while starting the machine).  There is always a chance that your connector to your hard drive is bad or the contacts are dirty but that is an outside shot.

  • Does version 3.6 still have the plugin-container.exe?

Plugin-container.exe causes me massive problems with hangs, crashes, cpu usage in the 90-100% range and it seems to force the cooling fan to run at maximum constantly. It makes the computer useless as anything other than an extremely noisy paperweight and trying to solve the problem has not worked. Therefore i want to downgrade to a version which does not have this awful thing.
Does the oldest supported version (3.6.0 from what i can see) have plugin container.exe?

How can I disable Messenger Chat in v8.0? Or, at the least, say I'm offline so that some bimbo won't be wanting to talk to me every time I start Yahoo mail?
Sorry, I somehow mis-posted this under Mail Filters the first time.

I'm in Yahoo Mail v8.0. Options > Messenger Options offers four sub-menus: General, Appearance, Privacy, and Other. None of them offer an option to turn it off...which is ''exactly'' what I would love to be able to do!
If I choose Options > Mail Options, I can likewise find nothing under it to disable Messenger. Earlier I could simply choose Offline and not be bothered by it. These days, though, FF changes versions faster than I change underwear. If I'm just missing it in either option menu, I'll surely apologize.
    Any other thoughts?
