How can i execute a SAP function from destop in froeground mode?(JCO)

Hi Experts,
I faced a problme during my work.
i need a programme log on a SAP system and then execute a function from my windows desktop. however i need this function to be executed in front end because there are someting need to be poped up.
i am using Jco but it seems it only support executing a RFM in background mode?
how can I do?

thanks for your reply.
the situation is like that. my function is to call catt/ecatt which need sapgui popup sometimes..
i test the fuction inside R3 system which works fine however when i use JCO to call it from desktop error shows..
log infomation is useful however in this situation popup sapgui is very important.
the idea way is JCO call SAPGUI in destop and execute my fuction automatically:)

I have an attribute defined in an element. I want execute a PLSQL function from the attribute, and display the returne value with an HTML template.
I've defined the attribute's type like PLSQL, and I've put the called of the function in the value of the attribute, but it doesn't work. The only value I obtain is an URL (I think that is the URL of the function or someting like this).
How can I call to my function from the attribute and display the returnes value in the page?

Thanks, but it doesn't work. I have an attribute called ID_BOL and I want to associate a sequence to that attribute. I've created a function, with the sequence. This function return de value of the sequence. I want taht the attribute takes the value of the sequenece dinamically.
I've tried it, creating the type attribute like PLSQL, and calling the function from the attribute, but it doesn't work.
How can I return the sequence value to my attribute?

if you are using excel in place in the web application environment I doubt you can, you've never really had any macro functionalty there.
If you are in the gui environemnt (Planning folders) it will depend on how you want to invoke the module...

outputstream so u can see its output.The OP didn't mention any output from any batch file;
nor any input for that
matter,so lets not complicate matters here for now

How can I execute an external program from within a button's event handler?

I am using Tomcat ApacheTomcat 6.0.16 with Netbeans 6.1 (with the latest JDK/J2EE)
I need to execute external programs from an event handler for a button on a JSF page (the program is compiled, and extremely fast compared both to plain java and especially stored procedures written in SQL).
I tried what I'd do in a standalone program (as shown in the appended code), but it didn't work. Instead I received text saying the program couldn't be found. This error message comes even if I try the Windows command "dir". I thought with 'dir' I'd at least get the contents of the current working directory. :-(
I can probably get by with cgi on Apache's httpd server (or, I understand tomcat supports cgi, but I have yet to get that to work either), but whatever I do I need to be able to do it from within the button's event handler. And if I resort to cgi, I must be able to maintain session jumping from one server to the other and back.
So, then, how can I do this?

NB: The programs that I need to run do NOT take input from the user. Rather, my code in the web application processes user selections from selection controls, and a couple field controls, sanitizes the inoputs and places clean, safe data in a MySQL database, and then the external program I need to run gets safe data from the database, does some heavy duty number crunching, and puts the output data into the database. They are well insulated from mischeif.
NB: In the following array_function_test.pl was placed in the same folder as the web application's jsp pages, (and I'd tried WEB-INF - with the same result), and I DID see the file in the application's war file.

I have made a SharePoint ribbon button which should display an alert message with SharePoint custom list
ID information. But it has problem for calling the Jscript methods, It may be a XML tag mistake!!! Unable to
find the error in code line!!!, can somebody please tell me this error by referring my code snippet????
It is a farm SharePoint solution I have kept the Jscript file in mapped folder named "Layouts"
It is showing the error as : JavaScript runtime error: The value of the property 'myFunction' is null or undefined, not a Function object
That means, as I understand the control is not moving or not calling the function from JScript file....why it
is so...not able to debug JScript or xml using Visual Studio that makes my effort tedious!!!

I suggest you write an alert() in your function to check whether it can be executed first.
If alert() is ok, then it would be an issue of the code with Client Object Model, you can take a look at the link below about How to retrieve List Items Using JavaScript:

How can I execute a .bat file from inside a java application

I have a .bat file which contains an executable file(.exe) and some input and output file names. What commands can I use to execute this bat file from my java application.

After raeding tkleisas' reply; i am trying to invoke another application (which can be invoked from the command line) by using a batch file and trying Runtime.exec for executing a batch file.
My current code is:
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
Process trialProcess;
trialProcess = runtime.exec("cmd.exe /C start C:\\guns.bat /B");
And my guns.bat looks like:
cd C:\CALPUFF
echo trial
start calpuff.exe CALPUFF.INP
This is not working for me and i get the following in the error stream of the trialProcess:
Error :
The system cannot execute the specified program.
Process finished with exit code 1
Has anyone come across something like this and know what's wrong with this one??

Is the .bat job to be run on the client or on the server side?
If the former, some sort of javascript, but I wouldn't know how to do that.
If the latter, a simple form sending a post to the JSP that either uses an inline scriptlet call to something like Runtime.getRuntime().exec(String)
or (better) a call to a bean that does the same.

You could call it via Runtime.exec(), just as you would from any Java program. Or better, you could redesign it as a proper Java class. Then your servlet could create an instance of the class and call its methods as necessary.

There's no difference between using functions in DML and using functions in any other SQL statement. Almost any place where a literal is allowed, you can have any kind of expression, including a an expression involving one or more functions.
For example, in
UPDATE table_x

WHERE column_b > SYSDATE;You could use functions instead of 0, column_b, or SYSDATE. (Actually, SYSDATE is a function.) You can not use functions instead of table_x or column_a (since it is to the left of the "=" sign).

How can I execute program after using F4_Filename function?

I'm a new user on the forum. I've been working with ABAP and SAP for a few weeks. I wrote a program for importing data from excel file to SAP using BDC. During searching this forum I found information about F4_Filename function which allows users to browse the disc for a file. I'd like to add this function to my program. I have a parameter for a file name but this is an ordinary static string field. When I added the code which I found in the message on this forum the rest of program doesn't execute.
This is simple program for example:
REPORT Z_TEST8_AB.
DATA f_name TYPE STRING.
PARAMETERS p_file like rlgrap-filename DEFAULT 'c:\test.xls'.
f_name = p_file.
write:/ f_name.
This program works correctly. There is a field for parameter. I can change the default name for a file.
After all, I can run the program (F8) and rest of the code is executed. The field for parameter dissapears from the screen and the file name is displayed. ( command write)
Now I added a function F4_Filename
REPORT Z_TEST8_AB.

at selection-screen on value-request for p_file.

design it first with one page
page will have layout and Event handlers
Design the layout with the fields
in the event handler there are events
in the event On Initiailization or ON inputprocessing write the select query similar to what we write in routine ABAp and fetch the data into ITAB and that has to be passed to the Layout

When creating BSP applications, note the browser dependencies described in Note 598860.
steps:
1) start the transaction RZ10.
2) now u u have to select Profile name, so select the INSTANCE Profile from the list of options given with the Profile parameter list.U may find multiple instance profile in the list, so select the profile in which ur server name is given.
3) u will also find three options in the same window.
Administrator data, Basic Maintenance, and Extended Maintenance. So select the last one from that.
4) Now click on change button.
5) here u will find parameter icm/host_name_full, so now set it as FQDN.
6) Now copy ur settings with new version number.
7) Activate that version.
8) And now please restart ur WAS.
So this will set ur FQDN, and also don't forget to login using Admin User.
Now u also check for following service are active in your ICF setting or not,( just start transaction code SICF)
