How can I make selectable data within a cell?

Within numbers I would like to create a selectable item list from which I can select one item for the cell?  In excell I can create a pull down within the cell, does this function exist within numbers?

DH,
Yes, in Numbers the Format is called "Pop-up menu".
Download the Numbers User Guide from the Help Menu and read about Cell Formats.

  • Numbers '09: How can I display selected data from one cell in another cell?

    Hello.
    I have a Numbers document that contains a table that looks a little like this:
    Amount;Code
    Amount
    Code
    10;12B
    12;8A
    14;16E
    16;3C
    18;5A
    I'd like to have Numbers 09 automatically separate the "Amount;Code" data in the coloumns to the right.
    Do you know the right function and/or equation to make this happen? Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
    Cameron168

    Formula for Amount:
    =LEFT(A2,FIND(";",A2,1)-1)
    Formula for Code
    =RIGHT(A2,LEN(A2)-FIND(";",A2,1))
    I just modified the equation for separting first and last names from:
    http://www.bluemoosetech.com/microsoft-excel-functions.php?jid=32
    You will have to put in your correct cell names
    Tested it and it works!
    Have fun!

  • How can I make the data persistent when using plist ?

    I have a UITableView table1. And when I touch any cell in the table a new UIViewController appears and it have two UITextField's name and description. After entering the data in both the text fields I used the save button to save them. In save method I wrote the code for the data to be stored in plist.
    -(void)save:(id)sender
    indexOfDataArray = temp;
    NSString *string1 = [[NSString alloc]init];
    NSString *string2 = [[NSString alloc]init];
    string1 = nameField.text;
    string2 = descriptionField.text;
    NSDictionary *myDict = [[NSDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys:string2, string1, nil];
    [myArray addObject:myDict];
    NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
    NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0];
    NSString *path = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"VideoData.plist"];
    [myArray writeToFile:path atomically:YES];
    UIAlertView *alertMesage = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle: @"Save Alert" message:@"The data entered is saved" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"cancel" otherButtonTitles:nil] ;
    [alertMesage show];
    [alertMesage release];
    [myArray retain];
    But the problem is every time I restart my application the data in the plist is deleted. How can I retain the data in the plist name I specified ?

    I think yes, I am specifying only one file name to store in the path. I understood my where I am wrong.
    If I added data in plist for two items(item1 and item2). And again I need to add next two items(item3 and item4) . How can I make item3 and item 4 do not replace item1 and item2 ?
    Thank You.

    Hi ganesh,
                    Thanks for answer. it is correct that Generic is the final solution.
    But is there any other solution if i don't want to create generic data source due to some issues.

  • How can I make multiple quizzes within one Captivate project?

    Hi guys! Really liking Captivate 5.5, especially the way random question slides can lift questions out of a question pool...very elegant!
    Sadly though, I've come up against a bit of a wall. In my project, I want to have 3 separate quizzes that all use the same question pool; a 10, 30 and 50 question-long quiz. Each one needs to have its own results page.
    It's easy enough to see what I mean by looking at the screenshot below:
    The idea was to have about 105 slides in total, with slides 10 - 20 being the 10 quiz slide, 21 - 51 being the 30 question quiz and 52 - 102 being the 50 question quiz.
    There are three invisible buttons placed over those 10, 30, 50 text boxes. In the picture, the '10 question' button would jump to slide 10, the '30 question' button would jump to slide 21, and the '50 question' button would jump to slide 52, jumping the user to the start of their designated tests.
    Though I can create the 10 random question "block" easy enough, when it comes to adding the 30 question "block" it just adds the new random questions to the existing random questions. I want three separate quizzes, each with their own results screens please. (I don't want to daisy-chain to external projects, because the results of each test need to be used within the homepage.)
    It just adds them on to the existing block!! Argh!!
    Little bit ticked off with Adobe...the reason their products are so incredible is because they put no constraints on the user, and you can use their tools to create things even the developers never dreamed of. Like in Photoshop for example, I bet when the dropshadow fx was created, the developers never realised that it would be used to give a metallic 'stamped' look to text by turning it to white and applying it just inside the text.
    Captivate, though amazing most of the time, has a nasty habit of stomping on my toes. You can't set grade boundaries and have quizzes give out grades A+ to F- for example. You can only have 'pass' and 'fail', thus making it rather pointless for use in schools, contrary to how the program is advertised. Another example would be when I wanted to create a replay button. I thought that a button that jumped to the slide it was on would be a simple, no-BS replay button, but for some reason you can't make a button jump to its current slide. I downloaded a widget that worked in the end, but I wish Adobe would get off my back and let me do what I want!
    Anyway, if you could help me out here it would be grand

    I must say I have a little sympathy for the Captivate developers on this occasion.  As you say, they've created an application that does so much, that when you eventually run into a hard boundary of some kind, the effect is somewhat jarring.  However, every application, no matter how good, has limits.  I'm probably one of the worst offenders when it comes to asking the Adobe Captivate Development Team for enhancements (I think I've logged over 70 enhancement requests for Captivate 6 alone).
    In your case, you want to have three different quizzes in one project file, each with it's own separate Quiz Results page.  Lilybiri's blog explains how to set up your own faux Quiz Results pages using system variables and custom user variables, but you're going to find this to be quite a lot of trouble.  Even if YOU want to consider these as three separate quizzes, as far as Captivate is concerned they're just one big quiz with 50 questions.  So Captivate will calculate it's internal results based on a 50 question quiz, even if your users select the 10 question version.  So achieving a final Pass/Fail result is going to be problematic at best.
    As Lilybiri suggested, your better strategy would be to break this up into separate modules so that you can get your three separate quiz results (all done in standard Captivate) as well as correct results based on the actual number of questions done by the user.
    As far as grades A-F is concerned, there's nothing to stop you from using Advanced Actions and User Variables to calculate the user's score as a grade.  You need a user variable that stores the user's grade (e.g. var_Grade). And you need a fairly complex Conditional Advanced Action (e.g. caa_CalculateGrade) with several clauses each of which goes something like:
    If
    cpQuizInfoPointsscored is lesser or equal to [highest score for a particular grade]
    AND
    greater or equal to [lowest score for a particular grade]
    Actions
    Assign var_Grade with [the appropriate grade for that range of scores]
    Your conditional action will need one of these clauses for each separate grade.  Once your variable has been assigned a grade based on the user's score, you can display it in a text caption somewhere on the quiz results page or on a slide thereafter with suitable commendations/ commiserations.

  • How can i make perticular row or perticular cell Editable  of a JTable

    Dear al,
    can u help me by guiding me for the problem of...
    i am having a JTable, in which a (first)column of each row is having a checkbox field.
    If the checkbox is checked then and then i should able to modify the cells in that row where the checkbox is.
    I have created the table with AbstractTableModel of which the isCellEditable(int row, int col) method is overwriten. Whatever return value (true/false) reflects the perticular
    cells becomes editable/non-editable respectively.
    but at run time...(mean the table is created now) and now i want to make the cells editable/non-editable depending on the checkbox value...
    how can i implement it.........

  • How can I secure confidential data within LabVIEW?

    I am writing a VI hierarchy that handles confidential data received across a network and sends it out over another communications link.
    If I password-protect all the VIs that handle the confidential data, will this render it as secure as it can be within the LabVIEW domain?
    Or is there still a way of intercepting the data as it is passed between VIs in the call hierarchy?
    Is it possible to hook into low level TCP components that don't show up in the call hierarchy?
    I'm anxious to do the best I can without going completely OTT. Please can someone advise?
    Many thanks
    Nick

    Nick;
    A trick I do is to use a state diagram and a local variable. With the
    state diagram I force LabVIEW to keep the data in memory and then
    outside I rewrite the control with an empty value. That way the data
    will not stay in the control so somebody can read it and will go away
    as soon as the VI finishes. This is to get the data into the sub VI.
    See the attached picture.
    Encrypt data and keep it encrypted until need to be processed. Check my library Crypto-G at:  www.visecurity.com

  • How do I make selective screenshot images in cells the same size?

    I am putting together a spreadsheet to list the purchasing options for our company from some of the Mac mini models but have a problem with image sizes in spreadsheet cells.
    First I took screenshots of each of the price and spec panels of the self-configured options I was interested in recommending using CmdCtrl+Shift4 to save the screenshot to the clipboard. Next, I highlighted the cell into which the image was destined to go and clicked Cmd+V and the image appeared in the cell (as an image fill for background colour). I repeated this process for six different Mac minis, being careful to start and finish the crosshairs in exactly the same place for each option. Each of these images had been lifted from a separate Tab in Safari 4.0.5 and appeared to be identically sized.
    The problem is, when placed in the spreadsheet cell grid, each image was either higher or lower than the one next to it, yet all cells were the exact same size. Some images appeared to be centred in the cell, others appeared to be top aligned.
    Can anyone help me to understand why this happens, and to give a suggestion on how to avoid it in the future?
    TIA

    OK, my mistake! The images were not the same size because the specs were different for each one, meaning that the info boxes were of different heights. When I copied them again, using the coordinates to ensure the screenshots were exactly the same size this time (rather than adding on a fixed width to the outside of the boxes) the problem was solved.
    Sometimes it's the user not the tools that has the problem!
    Having said that, it would be useful if the images were not background fills, but images that you could highlight because that would show quite quickly the size of each one - and allow you to add a background colour to a column to indicate a category type.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Date and time of appointment to light. How can I make them darker?

    I find the date and time of the appointments show in a light grey color which I find hard to see. How can I make the date show in a darker color?

    Finally gotten the hang of editing < </div>
    Cool. I've been at this for more than 30 years, I still learn stuff every single day.
    and now we are trying to improve the speed with which out video clips play on the web. I would love them to load as quickly as the large movie trailers on the apple site. I have experimented with the export settings and gotten them a bit better but not they are still not loading as quickly as the Apple ones. Any ideas? < </div>
    Get yourself two or more of the very intensely geeky books on streaming media. In this case, though, it's got nothing to do with your export or compression/encoding settings. It's all about how rapidly your server can send the file into the Internet when it called.

  • How can I make chaptgers with in Chapters

    Hi, I was wondering how can I make a chapter within a chapter. Maybe that sounds funny. What I want to do is back up some old video tapes that have some old shows on them. Like for example, I want to make dvd with some old 3 stooges on em for my dad. For each episode, I was thinking, I was thinking of breaking them up a bit, so you can do scene selection faster. However, I don't want them as seperate chapters so when your in the dvd menu and go to scene selection and have all whole bunch of chapters, I would rather have just the episodes. Like I know we have some bought dvds of threes company and you can select which episode you want to watch and when you watching it and you press like the chapter button or next scene goes to where a commercial would have ended. I thought bookmarks would do it but I was way off on that one. Or is this a thing you do with DVD pro.
    Nathan

    Hi, Nathan,
    I haven't done this myself, but I know you can have submenus of submenus and you can probably create this type of 'nesting' chapters by placing chapter markers in iMovie, and then making the menus and submenus in iDVD.

  • How can I make a chart ignore cells until their value is changed from 0?

    In the corresponding table, I used conditional formatting to hide zeros in the highlighted row by conditionally changing the text color to that of the table background. However, the zero value's are still represented in the corresponding chart as you can see in the attached photo . How can I make the chart ignore certain cells only until their values are changed from zero? Thanks in advance!
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
    Leave the cells empty until they're needed, or, if the cells' contents are determined by a formula, revise the formula to insert a null string if the value is zero.
    =IF(your formula = 0, "", your formula)

  • How can I make tree view for hierarchical data from select with connect by?

    If we have selected hierachy with connect by clause, how can we make it to see in tree view?

    You can't do this using the ADF, Tree Binding used by JHeadstart.
    However, If you have a recursive relationship (for example managerid) you can get a tree what you want as follows:
    - create one root ViewObject that returns the top-level employees without a manager by setting the where clause to managerid=null
    - create a second ViewObject that simply queries all employees
    - Create a ViewLink between the two view objects, and create a nested VO usage in the app module for the second view object
    - Create corresponding nested group in the application definition file and set the layout style to "tree-form" on both groups.
    See Developers Guide, chapter 3, section recursive trees for more info.
