How do I apply a simple formula to each column of a matrix?

I thank you all who have provided me with answers to my previous questions. As you can see I am a beginner. My new question is: I am trying to scale and centre the data in my X matrix (by column) using X = Xi - 1(Xmean). How do I perform this for each column so that my new matrix is scaled and centred? I appreciate your help and thank you very much in advance.

Simple array indexing using a for loop will work. Wire a 2d array into a for loop and the columns will be indexed automatically, then just do your math on that column and send it back out of the loop to get your 2d array back.

  • Applying Navigation option individually for each column..?

    Hi all,
    i posted one question in morning
    Navigating from one report to another report i got that one.But,
    My criteria is that i have detail column with image (arrow mark).The detail contains the failure details of a report.
    Let say,the table is like this with 2 columns
    failed_reason(col1) detail(col2)
    server_error image
    no_data_found image
    what i want is that when i click on the image(arrow ) its going to hit another report for each failure reason .
    In the detailed report we have the full reason and solution to overcome that failure
    So is there any way to do like that please help me out .
    Thanks,

    Hi.
    Similar post, how to use GO URL, read my answer please:
    Re: How to use GO URL?
    For GO URL on image the syntax is:
    '<--a href=http://localhost:9704/analytics/saw.dll?GO
    &path=/shared/Development/Report2
    &Action=Navigate
    &P0=1
    &P1=eq
    &P2=Tablename."COL1"
    &P3='||Tablename."COL1"||
    ' style="text-decoration:none;"
    -->
    *<--img border=1 src="res/s_oracle10/portal/dash_refresh.gif">*
    <--/a>'
    Column properties/Data format -> HTML
    Don't forget to remove --*.
    P2 -> target column on report2, in your case it is failed_reason
    P3 -> source column on report1, in your case it is failed_reason

    How can I sum up raws? the Sum function seems to work only on columns. Right now I have to create a separate formula for each raw

    Hi dah,
    "Thanks, but can I do one formula for all present and future raws? as raws are being added, I have to do the sum function again and again"
    You do need a separate formula for each group of values to be summed.
    If the values are in columns, you need a copy of the formula for each column.
    If the values are in rows, you need a copy of the formula for for each row.
    If you set up your formulas as SGIII did in his example (shown below), where every non-header row has the same formula, Numbers will automtically add the formula to new rows as you add them.
    "Same formula" in this context means exactly the same as all the formulas above, with one exception: the row reference in each formula is incremented (by Numbers) to match the row containing the formula.
    Here the formula looks like this in the three rows shown.
    B2: =SUM(2)
    B3: =SUM(3)
    B4: =SUM(4)
    That pattern will continue as rows are added to the table.
    Also, because the row token (2) references all of the non-header cells in row 2, the formula will automatically include new columns as they are added to the table.

  • How to apply a simple javascript into JSF

    Hi everyone. This is my first time using JSF and i am abit confuse in applying some simple javascript into my JSF. Actually, i just want to add a simple function that is to disable user from input some certain textfield (h:inputText) based on the selection in the combo box (h:selectOneMenu).
    The javascipt that i would like to apply in the JSF coding is shown as below:-
    <HTML>
    <TITLE>Example of onChange Event Handler</TITLE>
    <HEAD>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
    function textField()
    if(document.myform.mcDonald.value=="disable")
    document.myform.data.disabled=true;
    if(document.myform.mcDonald.value=="enable")
    document.myform.data.disabled=false;
    </SCRIPT>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <H3>Example of onChange Event Handler</H3>
    <form name="myform">
    <SELECT NAME="mcDonald" onChange="textField()">
    <OPTION VALUE="enable">Enable
    <OPTION VALUE="disable">Disable
    </SELECT>
    <input type="text" name="data" value="10" size=10 disabled="true" >
    </form>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

    You need to use the id's of the components in the hierarchy. This is actual working code:
    // Javascript
              function actionedStatus_onchange(formObj, fieldValue) {
                   formObj.elements['foureye:tabExceptions:unresolvedOnly'].disabled = (fieldValue != 'all');
                   formObj.elements['foureye:tabExceptions:unresolvedOnly'].checked = (fieldValue == 'all');
    // JSF
                   <x:selectOneMenu id="actionedStatus" styleClass="detailBondField" value="#{exceptionsBean.actionedStatus}"
                             onchange="actionedStatus_onchange(this.form, this.value)">
                        <f:selectItems value="#{lookupBean.actionedStatusList}"/>
                   </x:selectOneMenu>
    In this case, the root component form is 'foureye' (a subview), followed by 'tabExceptions' (a form), followed by a checkbox 'unresolvedOnly' that I want to manipulate. Here I am disabling the checkbox and setting the value dependent on the value of the selectOneMenu

  • How to make the calculation or formula in bottom of the coloum

    How to make the calculation or formula in bottom of the coloum in Discoverer report.
    Regadrs
    Manikandan

    Hi Ros
    You have a couple of issues, one that is simple to resolve and one that is not so simple.
    First, the simple one - the word TOTAL. To alter the word that Discoverer inserts next to a total, or to even remove the word altogether, use this workflow:
    1. Right-click on the total and from the pop-up menu select Edit Total
    2. At the bottom right-hand corner of the Edit Total dialog box is the area where the label is maintained. You will see a checkbox for the label
    3. If you uncheck the label you can change the label to anything you like, including nothing
    4. After you have set the label, click OK and close the Edit Total dialog box
    Note: In Desktop, this is done via a drop-down from the Total dialog box. If you click the drop-down, the last item in the list is called Generate Label Automatically. If you uncheck this you can create your own label.
    Your second issue concerning the non-totaling of the grand total on some items means that there is something preventing one or more of the totals from calculating. First of all, try to determine which item or items is causing the problem by adding individual totals to each of the desired columns. You will eventually find the column which has the culprit. If you use the above workflow to suppress the display of any labels your total line will look as though you have totaled all items.
    Next, having found the column that will not total, try to figure out why the values will not add up. Could the column be a calculated item? If so, it is possible that you have used SUM on the outside of the calculation, like this:
    SUM(some item - some other item) - this will not total if the original items themselves are in the query and are also being summed. This is because you are mixing aggregate and detail items within the total.
    Try changing the formula like this:
    SUM(some item) - SUM(some other item) and see if this helps.
    If this is not the cause then try changing the formula for that column's total to CELL SUM instead of SUM. This causes Discoverer to literally add the values in the column.
    If this is not the cause, could you possibly be trying to total repeated values? By default, this is disabled in the later versions of Discoverer. The repeated values will be caused if you have multiple joins in your query and the item that you are totaling is from the many end of a one to many relationship. Suppose you had items from a header table and line table in the same worksheet with there being multiple lines for the same header, and now let's say you have a column which is returning something from the header. That value will get repeated and if you try to total it would generate the wrong answer, hence out of the box Discoverer is trying to protect you from yourself.
    However, it could be that the column really should be totaled but because Discoverer has detected a one to many join it will not total that column. To prove that this is the reason, change the join from a one to many to a one to one. Don't worry, this won't stop the query from working. If this allows the total to work then you can either leave the join as it is with a one to one, which won't harm Discoverer or you can edit the pref.txt on the server and change one of the preferences.
    The preference I would change is called AllowAggregationOverRepeatedValues. By default this is disabled and will be set to 0. Changing this to a 1 will now tell Discoverer that repeated values can now be totaled. Don't forget to apply the preferences correctly by execiting applypreferences.bat, on Windows or applypreferences.sh, in Linux or Unix, and then stopping and restarting the Discoverer server.
    I hope this helps
    Best wishes

  • How do I apply programmatic skins for completely custom drawn components of a Flex library project?

    Hello folks,
    I am looking for best practices advice when (1) creating
    custom components and (2) styling and skinning.
    I already know how to skin a component part of the Flex
    framework. I can make a class extending ProgrammaticSkin and have
    my component skinned using CSS to link the component with the
    reference to my custom class.
    However what about those cases when you are completely
    creating a component from scratch?
    Imagine a "Freehand Drawing Canvas" component that allows the
    user to draw on it and has some buttons to set color styles, line
    styles, etc., or imagine a "Screen Flow Gallery" component that
    displays visual objects in a fashion similar to Cover Flow in the
    Mac.
    In many components I am aware you may reuse other components
    part of the Flex framework but I am trying to picture an scenario
    where you would need to draw everything yourself because there just
    isn't something to base it upon so you will end up drawing it from
    scratch.
    To learn how instead of building one of those components I
    mentioned previously I decided to start with something simple that
    would illustrate this like a LiteButton component that will behave
    just like the Flex mx.controls.Button but will extend UIComponent
    and be completely custom drawn.
    The component will have a default look and will also be
    style-able and skin-able. I will provide styles for users of the
    component to modify and regarding skinning anyone can create a
    custom ProgrammaticSkin adding its own drawing logic and link it to
    the component via CSS with the ClassReference applied to the skin
    selector.
    So far so good and it's clear what I want to achieve. I
    actually know how to do most of the stuff here but I have one
    single problem.
    Here is my question, where should I put my custom drawing
    logic? If I do it in the updateDisplayList inside the class
    extending UIComponent it works, however I thought that it would be
    a better practice to do it using programmatic skins, that way I
    could provide different skin themes for my component set.
    The problem is that I can't make the programmatic work in
    this scenario. I tried instantiating the custom programmatic skin
    during the updateDisplayList of the LiteButton component and adding
    it to my display object via addChild but that didn't do anything. I
    also tried creating a "default.css" stylesheet and tried to use
    ClassReference as I would normally do to skin an already existing
    component (or composite component as well) but that didn't do
    anything either.
    So how do I apply programmatic skins for completely custom
    drawn components of my Flex library project?
    I could do it inside the updateDisplayList of the LiteButton
    class extending UIComponent but again I would like to provide
    different theme sets for my components so it makes sense using
    programmatic skins.

    These aren't mutually exclusive. When you provide a skin with
    a
    TypeSelector, you have to add it to the display list
    somewhere, and this is
    typically done in updateDisplayList or addChildren. I prefer
    to do it in
    updateDisplayList, because you can then change it if the
    style changes.

    Exactly what did you do?

    I've never had any problem using an approach similar to
    this...but I will
    say that I couldn't see any advantage in creating a
    default.css style sheet,
    since it's not really default in the way that the one that
    comes with Flex
    is. It's much more obvious to anyone using your component
    what's going on
    there if you create a style sheet where they're likely to
    spot it.

    It seems like your approach is fine, but maybe you've made a
    mistake in your
    implementation.

    You might want to consider also adding an instance of
    HaloBorder to your
    component. That brings a lot of functionality with it.

  • How to apply Filter condition for a specific column but not to the report?

    Hi,
    I am having a issue in applying a filter condition to one of the column.
    I have a schema with one fact table and around 10 dimension tables. My requirement is to bring a count on the fact table with related to some other columns from the dimension tables.
    Lets consider a scenario with tables like Sales (Fact), Region (Dimension), Year(Dimension), Sale Type (Dimension).
    Now my requirement is to bring out the fields
    City(Region) --City
    Year -- Year
    Sales Count(Sales table) ---Count of all sales from the fact table
    Sales Count(Sales table) -- Count of all sales from the fact table where sales type is 'CASH'
    Here my issue is how do I apply the filter condition of Sales Type='CASH' only on one of the Sales Count column which is from the fact table. I want the filter condition to be imposed only for the fourth column.
    Can anyone let me know how to achieve this?
    Thanks

    This is quite simpe. Edit the column formula for the 4th column and put something like this. I am doing this from memory so the syntax might need checking:
    Case When "Dimension Table"."Sales Type"='CASH' Then "Fact Table"."Measure" Else Null End
    You could also consider making this a permanent addition to your RPD if this measure will be used again and again. You would add a new logical column and use the expression builder to arrive at the same result.

    Hi All,
    I am struck with how to apply Chronological sort for a month column that contains values like January, February, March, April, May, June.... December. If we apply normal sorting then we can arrange the column values either in ascending order or descending order. But i want the column values to be in this format like jan, feb, mar,apr....dec. Is it possible???

  • How are labels applied and referenced (they are mentioned in Preferences)

    How are labels applied and referenced (they are mentioned in Preferences)?

    I searched Help for "labels" and found only one reference - to Preferences, seemingly the only place the plural is used. I needed to search for "label" instead.
    I agree the documentation is good, but IMHO, it is not a User Manual; it is a product Reference Guide. The software (A3 especially) is very flexible and comprehensive, so it is very difficult to use it in a workflow, as it will support many different approaches both to organizing pictures and editing them. I can understand why Apple does not document this for photograpers. IMHO they carry this to a bit of an extreme - even their Adjustments are not listed in a logical (to me) sequence. I hope I can adjust this. The Library needs careful planning, and there are no guidelines on how to organize it, just lots of description of its myriad features.
    I too use labels to document my progress through my workflow. FYI, here is my old list. I used a different editor for my RAW pictures, and used Aperture to organize finished JPG's only. I'm changing that now, trying to make life simpler. so the process will change. My import software defaulted all pictures to 'maybe' (orange), and my first step was to cull them to bad (red) or selected (yellow) for further editing. However, the label data is stored in different fields by the two manufacturers, so another reason to change.
    Thanks for your help
    Bad
    Maybe
    Selected
    Developed
    Adjusted (to a finished quality)
    More (special) editing in progress
    Good, can create a JPG for Aperture
    Good and in Aperture
    Hold for whatever reason

    In order to save space, I am creating a simple formula to include a company name, location, contact & phone instead of putting each field into a Text Box, which makes the Detail section of the report the same size whether data is reported or not.
    Creating the formula is easy, but I want each field to print on a new line, instead of in the same row or to wrap.
    How do I tell the formula to go to the next line? **

  • Sort descending a column generated by a simple formula?

    I have just upgraded to Numbers 3.2 from '09 and I have discovered this nasty problem where I can not “sort descending” a column generated by a simple formula.
    Imagine the sequence 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64…
    — Let's add the first number, “1” in B1
    — Click on B2 and make it equal to B1*2
    — And so on, click your B2 cell and drop to bottom.
    We get this nice succession:
    OK. Now imagine we want to “sort-descending” this. We press on top and choose the descending option. And then we get this annoying result:
    How I can to fix this problem?
    This worked perfectly on previous Numbers versions ('09) and of course in Excel or OpenOffice. And it's a very “simple” and common feature.
    Or maybe I'm forgetting or misunderstanding something?
    Thanks for your support :-)
    Cristóbal Vila.

    Sorting has changed since the previous version.
    You can sort this by selecting the column with the sequence, then copy
    then select the menu item "Edit > Paste Formula Results"
    now sort
    another way is to place a "count" in column A... 0 thru whatever
    and place a formula to computer the power of two from that count:
    In this case I entered 0 in cell A1, then 1 in cell A2
    select cells A1 and A2 and fill down as needed by dragging the yellow dot that appears when you hover the cursor over to bottom edge of the selection
    In cell B1 I entered the formula "=2^A1"
    no select cell B1 copy
    select column B,  paste
    now you have a sort-safe table and may sort as needed

  • Creating a single variable from a simple formula

    Hi guys,
    I'm ploughing my way through the basics of expressions, constantly running into syntax errors as I still haven't found out the logic behind it all. It is still a great mystery to me when to use spaces, [ ] { } and ( ) not to mention =.
    I was trying to create a variable called "y" from a simple formula. My scripting looks like:
    veloc = 3;
    amplitude = -5;
    decay = 0;
    y = amplitude*Math.sin(veloc*time)/Math.exp(decay*time);
    [value[0],y[1]]
    But whatever brackets and things I put around this formula, whatever spaces or newlines, somehow AE doesn't accept it. When I replace the formula for a wiggle, the fifth line is accepted, and when I replace the "Y" in the fifth line for "value" there are no errors, so obviously AE considers the formula not valid. What is the difference between the output that wiggle(,) gives and the output of this formula? How should I write this expression? Is there any website resource where the logic behind the bracket, spacing, newline, order etc. of this script language is demystified? And I mean really at basic, really baby level. I am pretty good at maths, but the programming hieroglyphs and their secret rules still don't make sense to me.
    Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mylenium, thanks for your fast answer. I tried both
    veloc = 3;
    amplitude = -5;
    decay = 0;
    y = amplitude*Math.sin(veloc*time)/Math.exp(decay*time);
    [y[1]]
    and
    veloc = 3;
    amplitude = -5;
    decay = 0;
    y = amplitude*Math.sin(veloc*time)/Math.exp(decay*time);
    y[1]
    but it's a big no-go still. I am really not getting the logic of the format. AE reports Class 'Number' has no property or method named '1', or that the outcome should be of dimension 2, not 1. Any more ideas?

  • How are permissions applied between Web Applications and from Service Applications?

    I'm quite confused about how permissions are applied to Content Databases in relation to service accounts. So, as an example, I have two web applications - Intranet whose service account is DOMAIN\sps_webapp_default - and My Sites whose service account is
    DOMAIN\sps_webapp_social.  The "sps_webapp_social" account has full control (through User Policy) to the Intranet web app.
    When I go to My Sites> Sites> Suggested Links and click on any suggestions I get the below error and the site is not "followed".  This Content Database sits under the Intranet web app which the sps_webapp_social has full control to.
    I'm also getting similar permission issues when the account that runs various service applications tries to connect to the DB (such as workflow service).  This is happening to new or migrated sites.  I know permissions can be applied directly
    in SQL but this can't be the way to do it?
    Is there a simple reason why these permissions aren't propagating through?

    I resolved my issue. I deleted the Work Management Service Application and created it again - this time, I made sure the IIS Pool (I created its own application pool) service account running this was the same as the My Site service account.
    So, running under DOMAIN\sps_webapp_social.  This seemed to clear up all of my permissions issues being thrown up in Event Viewer too.
    My Sites really is a complicated beast...  I'm getting there.  Hopefully this helps somebody else!

  • How can I apply sales tax / invoices

    I'm just getting to know numbers (and iwork),
    how can I apply sales tax to only the desired lines I want with the invoice templates?

    One way is with the addition a of a checkbox column to the template to indicate taxable items & the addition of a separate column for the tax, which you can subtotal separately & add to the untaxed "Cost" column. The formula for the tax column would use an IF statement & the fact that a checked box represents the "true" condition & an unchecked one the "false" condition. The formula would be something like:
    =IF(D, $C$11*F, 0)
    where $C$11 is a reference to the template's tax rate cell, "D" is the column with the checkbox format, & "F" is the Cost column, here "bumped" to the right from its original column by the addition of the new columns. (Yvan's ROUND formula can be applied to the individual item taxes or to the tax subtotal, depending on what is customary or required by law.)
    A more sophisticated, automated approach could involve a separate table in a separate sheet listing the taxable (or non-taxable) item descriptions & a formula to calculate the truth value from that instead of with a checkbox column. This would allow you to avoid showing a checkbox column in the submitted invoice without hiding it.
    Note that in any approach, you can hide columns (or rows) you don't want to be seen or printed.
