How do I do basic authentication in a web services client

At Linfield College we do network account management in real time via servlets running in GlassFish. Since email accounts are hosted on Exchange, I need too be able to access Exchange to setup account, do email forwarding and also implement privacy in compliance with FERPA (a federal standard that affects to students). The code to do all that is written in C# as an ASP.NET web service hosted in IIS. I use Eclipse Kepler for Java EE development that includes the Web Tools Platform. To create the client, a start by creating a Java Project and add a classfile. Then I highlight the classfile and select new -> other -> web services. I add the WSDL and under configuration I click client project and then finish. That gives me a proxy stub that I can use to access all the published web methods, but what it doesn't give me is any way to implement authentication. I want to implement basic authentication, what am I missing?

Does that mean that the documentation (http://docs.oracle.com/middleware/1212/wls/SCOVR/concepts.htm#SCOVR136) is wrong, or am I misunderstanding what it's talking about?

WebLogic Server users must be authenticated whenever they request access to a protected WebLogic resource. For this reason, each user is required to provide a credential (for example, a password) to WebLogic Server. The following types of authentication are supported by the WebLogic Authentication provider that is included in the WebLogic Server distribution:

it works fine, but on client side, ( either Client or DClient ), I always see
the actual XML content being sent and received from standard output, like
"------------- RECEIVING XML -------------", and I can't find any related System.out.println
statement in client source code, Please explain how to remove it, may there is
a configurable parameter for this? any help will be highly appreciated.

Hi Naichen,
To suppress showing the actual SOAP request and response going to standard out,
change the following line in the Client.java:
h.put("weblogic.soap.verbose", "true" );
to read:
h.put("weblogic.soap.verbose", "false" );

JDeveloper Web Service Client/Proxy Basic Authentication

Hi I recently migrated a 10g Web Service to an 11g Web Service that uses basic authentication.
I then generated the client/proxy using the WSDL for my consumer application in JDeveloper 11g. however I cannot find any functions that will allow me to set the username and password to access the web service.
For instance, in 10g Client, I simply had to this:
myPort = new SoapHttpPortClient();
myPort.setUsername("username");
myPort.setPassword("password");
I am not sure how I do the same in the generated Web Service client in 11g.

Basic auth with RESTful WEb service and Web Service reference

We have made much progress on getting an application working wtih RESTful web services but now are trying to figure out how to lock down a RESTful Web service while making it available for a particular application.
We are using one of the sample 'emp' table web services that come with Apex 4.2 and are trying to apply Basic Auth to the WEb Service via Weblogic filter defined in the web.xml file. That works fine. I now get challenged when I try to go to :
https://wlogic.edu/apex/bnr/ace/hr/empinfo/
And when I authenticate to that challenge I am able to get the data. (we are usiing LDAP authentication at the Weblogic level)
However, I am not sure how to get same basic authentication to work with the Web Service reference in my application. I see the error message in the application when I try to call that Web Service:
401--Unauthorized<
And I see:
"The request requires user authentication. The response MUST include a WWW-Authenticate header field (section 14.46) containing a challenge applicable to the requested resource. The client MAY repeat the request with a suitable Authorization header field (section 14.8). If the request already included Authorization credentials"
How do I provide the credentials in the Web REference or do I provide credentials in the Application?
Web service works fine if I remove the RESTful web service basic auth from the Web.xml file.
Should we NOT use Weblogic basic auth and instead use basic auth from Workspace RESTful web service definition. If so, how do we implement THAT basic auth in the Web Service definition and in the Web SErvice Reference on the application?

What I mean is diid you try to use the PL/SQL package for APEX webservice. Here is an example I use (modified and shortened, just to show how much better this is than to use it from the application).

SAAJ (Web Service Client) and Integrated windows Authentication

Hello
I have build a web service client using SAAJ, the Web services is deployed on MS IIS. Every thing seems to work fine, The problem appears when I apply directory security on the Web Service Directory. When I apply Basic authentication SAAJ manages to send the user name and password and it goes fine, but when I apply Integrated Windows Authentication, I always get a response Access is Denied.
I know we can authenticate the user credentials from NTLM from JAAS but here I am using a web services client.
My Question is How can we pass the user credentials through a web service client to the IIS when the directory security is Windows Integrated Authentication?
Any work around or the solution will be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your answer. Actually, I think the problem is a little bit different. The kerberos server is not delivering a "grant" ticket to the client for the service provided by the VIP, because the CSS didn't register to the Active Directory, as a normal W2K web server would. The first thing the client does when he wants to access a web server behind the CSS is to ask the kerberos server for a "gtanting" ticket for that service. So the problem arise before the client sends any packet to the CSS (therefore I think it is more a Microsoft problem rather than a CSS problem).
But for sure, other people have this environment I suppose...
What is your opinion on this ?

How to prevent downloading wsdl in weblogic web service client

I use the weblogic tool to generate the client jar file from the wsdl file.

I find that this web service client always issue 2 http requests to invoke an web service method deployed in server.
1st http reqeust:

the return result is the wsdl downloaded from the server.
2nd http request is the real web service request.
The question is how could I eliminate the 1st http request because it's really unnecessary. I use other web service client like Axis 1.x, Axis client never has the http request to download the wsdl from the server.
I read through weblogic web service document. It do mentions that put saveWSDL="true" in the clientgen ant task. the default value for saveWSDL is true already. I did try saveWSDL="false" also. None of them can eliminate the 1st http request.

More or less I agree some points you mentioned above.
I did use Axis 1.x to test the inter-operability. The web service was developed in Weblogic 8.1 and is a part of an existing web application. It will be merged to existing application deployed in weblogic 8.1.
I also program the web service client to test the web service.
The implementation of the server and client will be handed over the project team and training for supporting or continuous development have to be conducted by me. So I don't like to use two types of technologies which will make thing complex.
I found this issue when I tried to protected the web service endpoint, eg http://localhost:7001/epol/service, using the web application Basic mechanism. The wsdl URL http://localhost:7001/epol/service?WSDL is also protected in this case. Unfortunately the username/password pair is not sent to the server when the weblogic client download the WSDL from the server. In this case, the client failed and throw exception.

JAX-WS web service client and Windows integrated Security authentication

I am currently developing a JAX-WS web service client running on WebLogic 10.3.2.0. The client is connecting to exchange web service running on IIS.
Everything works well when EWS is configured with Http basic authentication.
The problems started when I changed the autentication method on EWS from Http basic authentication to Windows integrated Security authentication.
The client is then unable to authenticate to the web service. Every request made to EWS returns with the message : Invalid HTTP server response [401] - Unauthorized.
I tried using an authenticator like this one:

WIS is not suppported on WLS JAX-WS. You'll need to use other authentication mechanisms such as http basic (which you tried already), or message-level security such as UNT, or SAML.

Hi Lakshmi,
The best way to do it is to assign all the three RFC Enabled FM's to one function group. Later on the top menu in Utilities you get an option to Create a Webservice from a Function Group.
You can create one single Webservice using all the the 3 FM's.

We are trying to populate a prompt programmatically.
Our program is a Web Services Consumer.
As an example we use Island Resorts Marketing
The cascading LOV for City is
Country -> Region -> City
The City object is key-aware to the customer table
The query is
Customer | Revenue
(where) City = [prompt]
In order to make the key-awareness work, we must select the value (rowIndex) from the LOV
When we run our program below, the LOV for City is not populated, as expected since we must first select the Country, then the Region.
The code snippet below shows that the LOV for Country is populated. We have no idea how to go from there.
Any hint will be immensely appreciated.

Hi user10939158, thank you for your response. Maybe I was not precise in my previous post. I know how certificates work and that I should not be using self signed ones. Due to a reason (non technical) we MUST use a self signed certificates. Considering this as a prerequisite let me clarify my situation:
- We added the certificate to the custom trust store connfigured in WL
- We configure the managed server to be more "verbose" about SSL stuff
- When the managed server start it outputs the following lines in the log:

How to see http response from an axis web service call (Eclipse)

I would like to see the raw http response which is returned from web service calls. I have a dynamic web project in Eclipse which uses a local instance of Tomcat 6. I'm using all of the default setting for a top-down web service generated from a WSDL file. I've generated the client using the built-in "generate client" using default settings.
I've tried using the Eclipse plugin TCP/IP monitor and apache's TCPMON, but I am only able to see the http request, not the http response returned from the web server I am querying.
I've seen some sparse documentation outlining how to use logging handlers and a client-config.wsdd file, but I haven't been able to get that working.
So to recap, I'm looking for a way to view raw http responses using a web service client and server generated from a WSDL file in eclipse. I don't mind creating a new project using different code-generating libraries if someone has an easy way to do this using a different configuration.

How to create a generic method which invokes Web Service

Hi I have a question how to create Web Service client. In design mode I can't specify static url ?WSDL and process.
I found briliant method in apache cxf library.

This can be very easily done using a web service proxy (Select web services from the categories and web service proxy from the items).
In the "Create Web Service Proxy" wizard, make sure you select JAX-WS client style. JDeveloper will use the JAX-WS web service API and JAXB (Java Architecture for XML Binding) to generate all required classes and methods required to call a web services, binding Java method signatures to WSDL messages and operations.

If you want to back up your Library to the Web then you need to back up the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder.
However, many people complain that it can take days for the upload - and in the event of a problem - download to restore.

Proxy Authentication Error in Web Service with SAAJ on Weblogic 9.2 MP3

Hi,
I have encountered a problem with proxy authentication in SAAJ web service (WS) calls on Weblogic 9.2 MP3.
My WS client (which uses SAAJ's SOAP classes) should use a proxy that requires authentication to call the external web services.
However, it does not perform the authentication and receives HTTP Error 407 - Unauthorized.
The reason seems to be that Weblogic's Http Handler (weblogic.net.http.Handler) ignores the proxy authentication.
I was able to work around it by setting sun's http handler explicitly in the WS endpoint URL. Sun's handler (sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler) makes use of the Authenticator class I provided.
1. Please see my code below and let me know if this is the only solution or if I'm doing something wrong. While testing on Tomcat I did not have to set the handler.
2. I have seen that there are also System properties for http.proxyUser and http.proxyPasword, however if I use these and ommit setting the SimpleAuthenticator, it also fails (with either handler!). An explanation of that is welcome.

How to implement web service client timeout

I'm trying to implement a web service client using JAX-RPC specification and the client is generated by clientgen utility. We are using weblogic8.1(sp5).
How do I control the connection timeout and data transmission timeout? I have tried:
BindingInfo.setTimeout() method and stub._setProperty("weblogic.webservice.rpc.timeoutsecs", "1" /* secs */);
and they don't seem to be working...
I have searched the web service documentation and didn't found any mentioning on this. Can someone shred some light on this?

I had a problem too for setting the timeout of a webservice client. but i didn't find any thing on this.
But there is a work around for this see if it suits you but for this you have to use Apache AXIS webservice api to generate the client in that Api you have the Stub.timeOut() function to over come this problem
