How do I get my iMac's HD(Broken display) to function through a Macbook Pro?

I am attempting to use my iMac with an external monitor and I need to allow the second screen to function as my primary screen.
I presently have a Displayport to VGA adaptor (leading to a monitor) connected to my iMac. Then, I have a FireWire spanning the iMac and a Macbook.
When connected via FireWire and accessing the Macbook's HD, I can access many files but cannot change any display settings.
After holding Option at the Macbook's start-up and selecting the iMac's HD, the Macbook displays the Apple symbol with a grey background and does not appear to be loading anything.
The iMac is running OS X 10.6.8 and the Macbook is running 10.8.3.

Yeah, this is going to be a stickler.
If the MB came with 10.7 or later, it won't boot/load/run 10.6
We might be able to edit some plists on the iMac & do something, but without those 2 to test I'm not sure which/what.
Can you find somebody with a 10.6 Mac?

The Adobe auto updater is highly unreliable.
You need to look for and download the update yourself and then manually apply it as per the detailed instructions on the download page:

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

How do I get videos I have taken off of Iphone 5S onto my macbook pro WITHOUT iTunes?

I HATE iTunes and thusly removed it from my MBP a long time ago. It is the worst program on the planet for transferring media. So, I have an iPhone 5s and a MBP running 10.9. I have recorded many GBs of video on my iPhone and it just sits on my phone because it is too large to email, and too large to send via iMessage to myself or to my Lady who also has Apple products.
WITHOUT using iTunes, how does one get the videos off their iPhones? I do not care what format it comes off as because I can use programs like Hand Brake to reformat it. I just need them off my phone so I can put them on CDs to share with friends and family. All my Macs and all my IOS equipment is on the same network although my MBP does not even see the iPhone in Finder. Not even when the iPhone and MBP are physically connected with a cord via USB.

iTunes is not used to move photos and videos from an iPhone to a computer (it is used to move them the other direction).
Also note that a connected phone or camera does not show in the Finder on a Mac. It should show in Image Capture or iPhoto.

How do I get my CF card to stop unexpectedly ejecting on my new Macbook Pro?

I have two Macs - a 5 year old Mac Pro and a new 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina display. Both run Mavericks. Both have Photoshop Lightroom 4. I tried importing some photos today using. USB CF card reader today. Thumbnails of the photos came up fine, but every time I tried to get a bigger preview, I'd get a spinning beach all for a couple seconds, then the card would unexpectedly eject. I tried using Mac Preview through the Finder. Same thing. I was able to import photos Through Lightroom 2 put of 3 times I tried, but I only imported a few photos at a time.
If it happens using Finder, it's not Lightroom.
I've been using the same card reader and the same card on my old Mac (also running Mavericks) for over a year. So, it's not the reader or the card.
Any ideas?

Ran more tests. Tried a total of 4 CF cards in the same reader. The 3 Lexar cards all have the same problem. Sandisk card works fine.
Tried the Sandisk and 2 of the Lexar cards in a very old reader - probably USB 1. All 3 worked.
So, it seems a perfect storm. Change the reader, computer or card reader, and it works. But all 3? Consistently gets ejected. I suppose the cheapest solution is to buy a new reader, as CF cards and computers are both pretty expensive. I can use the old reader, but as I said, it's slooooooooooooooooooow.
If you have an idea that doesn't involve buying something, I'm all ears.

My old mac was with snow leopard. Computer says I need to upgrade to the latest Garageband version, but it already is the latest version. I have no idea what to do? Hope someone knows.

Which version of GarageBand did you use on your Snowleopard System to create your GarageBand projects?
The GarageBand Version you are using now - what version is that? Did it come preinstalled with your Mac or did you migrate it from Snowleopard? When GarageBand is running, click "About GarageBand" in the "GarageBand" menu. The version should be 6.0.5. If you see a different version you probably have two versions of GarageBand installed and are running the older one.
What exactly is the error message and when do you see it? When you try to open GarageBand, or when you try to open and old GarageBand Project?

How Can I get my JayBird Freedom Bluetooth Earbud Headset to Work with my MacBook Pro-Retina

I have a 1st gen iPad and a relatively new MacBook Pro 15 Retina. As well, I also have a Jaybird Freedom Bluetooth Earbud Headset (Mic/Stereo Speakers). Finally, I have a Droid X (I'll explain in a minute why I mention this).
My BT Earbuds can pair with my iPad and my Droid X just fine. As a matter of fact, it can bind with my iPad for audio, and my Droid X for phone audio at the same time. However, even when the Droid X and the iPad BT is disabled (on both), my MacBook Pro will not work with the Bluetooth earbuds. I am able to pair them (it shows as a Jaybird Freed Headset, and shows that it can be used as an audio output/input device), but when I try to use the earbuds for audio, it almost hangs up for a few moments, then finally fails and reports that "there was an errr connecting to your audio device.." with the "stop using headset" as my only option.
My MacBook Pro Gen 2 with Snow Leopard used to be able to pair with this headset. I'm not sure if it is the OS or the newew generation laptop. I have seen a few other threads on this, but no fixes that work for me.

Just posted a problem I'm having connecting my Jaybird Freedom and iPhone5 (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4716045). The Jaybirds connected fine with an iPhone4s and another (forgotten) device so I don't think the problem lies with the Jaybird. I'd be interested if you hear differently.
