How do I get Safari to open at the home page?

In Lion Safari 5.1 starts with the last page viewed. Can I switch this to starting with the Home Page, as it did with earlier OSs?

In Safari preferences General tab set the option to Open New windows with Homepage. If that alone doesn't work go to System preferences General Pane and toward the bottom of the pane you'll see Restore Windows when quitting and reopening apps. Uncheck that. That should do it for you but there is an issue with this in Lion and for some this didn't work. After doing all this restarting the computer may help. If not wait for an update.

Hello, I just upgraded to the latest iMac version from my 2010 model, and whenever I close and open up safari it opens to top siotes instead of the last page I was on, and every time I open it I have to enlarge it myself by clicking the arrows in the top right. Same happens with everything else, like the app store. How do I change this so whenever I go to safari it opens to the last page I was on and has safari, app store, etc. have large screens right away? Browser opens to properly set home page. Tabs open to a different home page. what is the fix to get tabs to open to the home page I want.

I have firefox 24.0 in xp . for some time i have been using firefox with no problems. and i think i recently update to the current version. went my problem started I think was when I tried to download a video downloader. my home page was changed even tho I did a custom install. May home page was switched. after much trial and error I managed to get the home page I wanted when the browser first opens. but when I hit the tab button some home page opens that I dont recognise. and it does that for each addition tab that I open. it does this only when I open a tab. I have read several of the related questions here but there a waste of time because I am not a techie.
looked at the about:config thing but finding the right thing to even begin to look at was impossible. I dont recognise any of the thing in there and I dint understand how to search for the thing it said search for. this is the instructions I tried to follow:

what preference am I searching for? I tried searching for browser.newtab.url and came up blank. search for just browser came of with too many for me to make judgment on.

You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
(i) Page thumbnails (default)
browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
(ii) Blank tab
browser.newtab.url = about:blank
(iii) Built-in Firefox home page
browser.newtab.url = about:home
(iv) Any other page
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

How do I get safari to open a pdf in the browser window. A while ago I turned it off by typing defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -boolean yes into the terminal. Basically how do I undo that command

Then do a "get info" on it (Apple Key with the letter "i" key)
Select the "Open With" Box
Change it to "Preview"
Then select the box just beneath it
"Change All."
This should set your PDF's to be read with Preview.

Sounds like you are in Full screen mode. Run your cursor to the top of the page and click on the blue arrows on the right hand side.

Go to system preferences>general. Uncheck "restore windows when quitting and reopening apps."
Note that this is a global change - for Safari and everything else.

As long as the app remains in the store then you can re-download it via the Purchased tab in the App Store app, or via the Purchased Link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
Similarly ibooks can be re-downloaded, and depending upon what country that you are in then music, films and tv shows may also be re-downloadable (if they remain available in the store).

I am using Safari 5.0.5; have downloaded Adobe latest version; checked on Adobe preferences/internet to use Adobe. But from Safari PDF files will not open. Get a black screen with no content. If you want pdf's opening in Safari, using the built-in support (not Adobe) then quit open browsers, go to HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & remove any 'pdf' plugins. Occasionally, they're in Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
If you really want Adobe to do it in browser, and the plugin is in place already - try opening Safari in 32 bit mode. Command-click it in the dock, then File-Get Info, & check the 32 bit box. Takes effect the next time Safari is started up.

You might want to consider using a simpler home page, ideally one that is on your local drive, so you know Firefox is working even if you don't have a connection.
But your choice is much better than choosing a home page that just interfaces with a search site, when there is a builtin toolbar that can bring up any search that you care to add an engine for.
