I just purchased a MacBook Pro laptop today and I have attempted to download Adobe Flash on the computer - installation says it is complete but when I visit websites the flash still does not work. I am completely new to Mac - am I doing something wrong?

1. Install Adobe Flash Player.

    Quit Safari.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Enable Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"
    Enable it.
    Press " Manage Website Settings" button for more options.

That message is just a standard one issued, mainly for Windows users, you can disregard it if you didn't install any anti-virus. (OS X has one installed by Apple that doesn't interfere)
It's just some forms of anti-malware are really paranoid and lock the entire machine down. (like Norton)

Thanks for your help here is what I did so far!
I have uninstalled Adobe and reinstalled it, I've tried restarting my browser, then my MacBook Pro without any success!
When I click on the Apple in the upper left hand corner and open System Preferences I can see Adobe Flash Player on the bottom under the Other section.
If I open Adobe up and check the version it tells me that I have the most recent version!
I even uninstalled Adobe and installed the newest Beta version, but Adobe is still not working! If I check for the latest version it tells me that I do have the latest beta version, but it still doesn't work!
If the person who made the video used any other video player it works!
Their player, plays the video without a problem!

First, Flash Player is up to version 12 so I have to wonder where you're getting the file you're trying to install from. This link is direct to Adobe, where you can get the latest version. It depends on what you want to use Windows for, are you going to work mainly in Windows or OSX? Will you need to cross between the two and if so will restarting your computer be a pain?
I use Paralles, a copy of that is around $75 as far as I can remember.
Personally I had a copy of Windows XP so that was the first Windows OS I used with Paralles, then Vista came out so I though I would get a copy as it was supposed to be * the * Windows OS, when I installed Vista I was so dissapointed with it. I would go as far as say it is one of the ugliest OS's I have seen, I actually prefer XP, it's like the old space programs when you look at the sets, they made an effort but you can see the budget was low, it looks like a really poor effort at copying OSX but they didn't spend the money on doing it right.
Anyway, I just use XP so Vista for me was a waste of money. XP works faster and is more intuitive than Vista 'If Windows can be intuative that is'.
I also read out there that security in Vista isn't what it is cracked up to be.

Office 2008 will work with Mountain Lion, but it isn't retina compatible and would probably be too much strain on the eyes to work with. Purchase Office 2011 or Pages. LibreOffice is free and may be retina compatible, but I personally have never used it.
If you are willing to install 2008 and give it a try then just download the trial and then you can upgrade the trial to the full version using the license key you have.

I won't speak to how to obtain Windows 7, which you'll need to purchase or you must have a Key that you've purchased or own.
You have two choices to use Windows 7. First, are the virtual Windows emulator, using Parallels or Fusion (I think those are the only 2 but there might be others). I never liked them much (nor do I like Windows, but sometimes you've got to use them). They are slow and memory hogs, so you need a ton of memory to use them (8GB good, 16GB better). But you can use Windows and easily move over to OSX because Windows is in an OSX window. Easy.
We're not going to tell you how to install Windows 7 with those emulators, there are forums for them at the company website. It's not easy, but it's not terribly difficult.

Always get extensions like this from the publisher (in this case Adobe) and not from some website that says you need an extension and offers to install it for you since you may end up with malware instead.
