How do I make a back up of my iTunes library?

I am kind of new to the iPod Touch world.  I can't find a place where it says make a back up disc of your music in the iTunes menu.  Is there a way to do it?  Thank you in advance!!!!

Use the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • When i plug in my ipod a message says I can only have one ipod per computer, but my last computer broke. How can I make my new computer my actual Itunes library?

when i plug in my itouch, a message pops up and says my ipod is already registered on another computer (my old computer that broke). How can I make it so that the message won't pop up again and i can freely sync songs from my computer to my itouch and vice versa?

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • I want to make a back up of my iTunes library but don't have the space

I have room on my exteranl hard drive but not on my main one. Whenever I try and make a rar file it doesn't let me choose the destination. What compression form should I use and how do I get it to transfer to my external hard drive? Thanks for any help

+"Whenever I try and make a rar file it doesn't let me choose the destination. What compression form should I use"+
None! File packing schemes such as RAR, Zip, etc, cannot do much to compress music files. (If you want to see what I mean, make a folder with a few songs in it and compare it before and after.)
+"how do I get it to transfer to my external hard drive?"+
Just copy it there. In Windows, open the external and drag the contents into it.

I like to collecte complet albums of artist I like, this causes duplication of tracks between album. If I was able to link duplication track to one file in memory this will save memory.

  • How can I make a back-up of my bookmarks in Safari?

I am using Safari 1.3.1 (v312.3.3) and can't find a way to back-up my bookmarks. Apple's help area say I should be able to back up "favorites" by choosing export from the fle menu. I don't see an export or import at all! Does anyone know how I can make a back up for later import (for when my OS goes down)?

At least in Tiger, there is no "save as" function for saving bookmarks. You can export the file to another location, preferably externally based. I don't believe Safari in Panther has this feature.
    For safe copies:
One alternative is to copy ~/Library/Safari (includes Safari's bookmarks and history files) to a CD-R or RW disc or even DVD. You can include other crucial non-Safari files like your keychain, Library Application Support and Contextual Items folders, Internet Plug-ins, and if space permits documents etc.
The far easier route is to invest in an external HD, creating a bootable clone of your entire system with SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • I have to reinstall Mail as it's not working well. How can I make a back up of my emails so as not to lose them all?

I have to reinstall Mail as it's not working well. How can I make a back up of my emails so as not to lose them all?

Thank you for your time Woody. Recently the Mac seems to freeze a lot, seemingly due to a problem with the airport, especially if the computer is inactive for anything more than a few minutes. Then yesterday I suddenly couldn't send or receive messages so I got in touch with my server and they reconfigured the mail account. I can now receive messages but can't send them, always getting a timed out message when I try to send an email. I phoned the server again and they said it must be a problem with Mail as we tried sending a message online from the server's webpage and it worked fine, so they suggested I reinstall Mail. So hence my original question. Sorry for the rambling! I'm not very computer minded.

    Hi.
Messages are included with the iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
Are you wanting access to your messages on your computer?
If so, there are 3rd party utilities that provide for extracting messages and other data from your iPhone's backup on your computer's hard drive, or transferring messages from your iPhone for access on your computer.

  • How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1

How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1?

You are correct in some of your assertions, Limnos but, if I were to follow Apple's wishes, I would have to purchase the latest and greatest Apple product every month!  I refuse to do that.  I understand that my G4 is old but, it does what I need it to do.  To answer your question though, I purchased the iPod classic as a refurbished unit, about 5 years ago and had it replaced three times, since then so, there is no way for me to know how old it is.
From my knowledge of how the Classics work(which is extensive.)  It is basically a hard disk.  There should be of performing a low level format, plug it back in and the G4 should recognize the ROm and automatically search for the correct software associated with that version of iPod and load it but, Apple will most likely no longer carry the software on their servers anymore!(surprise, surprise.)

",the owner sold the ipod without clearing the songs and since the songs were not puchased from the itunes store then i believe i now own the songs"
    Not true at all.
It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.
The law is the same with downloads and cds and any other medium.

Your i-device was not designed to be a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned below).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. • I updated my iphone and lost all my notes there is lots of important notes, how can i get em back especially that on itunes when i sync my iphone a note appear that there is no back up on icloud, and i cannot restore?

i updated my iphone and lost all my notes there is lots of important notes, how can i get em back especially that on itunes when i sync my iphone a note appear that there is no back up on icloud, and i cannot restore?

Without a backup on iCloud, there needs to be another device using the same @icloud address that is syncing to the notes.  Without that, there is no way to go back in time to create a backup before performing a major update.
