It only happen since the last two updates I have did with firefox, but getting to a point where i am thinking about going back to explore. I really like firefox too.

How can I make the calendar window smaller?
How can I make the Calender window smaller?
Yes. It's at the minimum size via that method, but is much too large. I like to have it open always and in the previous OS the window was much smaller. Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

when I close out a website it goes to my desk top and then tells me firefox is already running and I have to shut down my system and bring it back up and wait to log back in. It's quite frustrating.
Try Ctrl>ALT>DEL then click Start Task Manager, then find the process firefox.exe, then click end program, then try opening Firefox again. <!-- click applications > new task.... > explorer.exe --> done! If that doesn't work, then try re-installing Firefox or going to this link to safe mode area and click continue to safe mode and then try and exit, if this problem still occurs then disable extensions and plugins

I have a white macbook, about 4 years old. Every time I use it, after five minutes, the mouse and touchpad stop working. You can still hear the click but it doesn't actually click anything on the screen, effectively freezing the computer. I have to just shut it down. What can i do about this?!? Thanks
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
I have an ImacG5. The entourage application freezes right after it opens. I have tried shutting down and restarting but doesn't help.
I know this is an old system but has worked fine until yesterday.Try holding down the option key when restarting Entourage, this will rebuild your data base and might solve the problem.

How do you make the movie icons smaller in the new iTunes?
I recently updated my iTunes to the lastest version (11.0). In the previous version I could adjust the movie icon sizes to make the icon larger or smaller. I can't easily figure out how to do that anymore. Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the movie icons in the new iTunes?
If there is an option for adjusting the size of the movie icons, I haven't been able to find it.

How do I make the mail font smaller on my iPad?
Emails from Gmail come in with too large a font. Set font size to small in prefs?
If it's happening on all the emails on that account then you could try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
You could also try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
How can I make the highlighted area smaller in Preview?
When I try to highlight a passage in Preview it is huge! I would think that when you choose to highlight something it should litteraly just highlight THOSE lines. However, it looks like a scribble that takes up more than the passage above and below many lines, as if its been scribbled back and forth ***?
I don't seem to see the same thing:
I can't find any preferences that control the highlighting. -
How do I make the Application Window smaller?
I installed an Adobe Elements application, but when I open it, it fills the whole screen. I would like it to be the size of a normal open window in my desktop, so I can see other things on my desktop at the same time. Can this be achieved in some way?
Any help will be appreciated.
Sheila KI don't think there is anything in preferences to change the window size, but what you can do is change a setting in the Window menu bar item so that the program does not create its "I take the world" interface, but instead you can see the Desktop in the areas that are not filled with your picture or the palettes you have open.
So go to the Window menu item and UNcheck the
the "Application Frame" item. I also nuke the "Application Bar" but you may find it of some use. You will see that you can then access your Desktop and the corner of any picture you have open can be used to drag and change the size of the picture.

How do I set the shared memory and semaphore Parameters
Hi, everyone:
Could someone help me on this? The Oracle Installation Guide
for Linux says these parameters need to be set, but does not say
how. Thanks in advance.

I have a setup similar to yours (384 MB instead of 512 MB),
and I spent some time looking at the parameters.
You CANNOT use the value for SHMMAX from the Oracle manual!
As it says at http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/oralinux.html
"Should you decided to change these parameters, if you set
the SHMMAX to what Oracle says, you are telling the system
to allow a shared memory segment to grow as large as 4 Gigs.
Many users have reported problems setting the value this
high."
Sounds like you are another one of those users, eh?
If you read on down, the guy who wrote that web page never
used over 128 MB for SHMMAX. I'd take a strong hint from that.
=====
Oracle wants you to use 4GB-1 as the SHMMAX value. That
equates to (1<<32)-1. As we shall see, that is not allowed
without "breaking the rules" for the i386 architecture.
If you carefully read through the header file, you will find
out that the **actual maximum value** for SHMMAX is 256 MB.
You can tell this two ways. Take a look at the file at:
/usr/src/linux/include/asm/shmparam.h
Near the top of the file is:
/* address range for shared memory attaches if
no address passed to shmat() */
#define SHM_RANGE_START 0x50000000
#define SHM_RANGE_END 0x60000000
Note that the above is 256 MB (0x10000000), or (1<<28). This
is one potential source of trouble. I don't know if some other
files someplace else in the kernel specify uses for address
ranges adjacent to the above range, which I take to be the
"practical maximum" without redefining that range. Personally,
I wouldn't want to mess with the above unless I **really**
knew what I was doing (and I'll be the first to admit I don't).
=====
Farther down you will see some more lines (not together)
that look like this:
#define SHMID_BITS 7
#define SHMIDX_BITS 15
* SHMID_BITS + SHMIDX_BITS must be <= 24 on the i386 and
* SHMMAX <= (PAGE_SIZE << SHMIDX_BITS).
#define SHMMAX 0x2000000 /* max shared seg
size (bytes) */
Now, 7 + 15 is 22, so you could go up a couple of bits if you
had to. To avoid making the table any larger, I would suggest:
#define SHMIDX_BITS 17
But, 17 turns out to produce a result larger than the "practical
maximum" (256 MB) above. To see why takes a little more
explaining.
If you don't change this at all, then the maximum possible
value for SHMMAX is 4096 [the PAGE_SIZE) << 15 [_SHM_IDX_BITS],
or rather (1<<27).
Now, that is exactly half of the (1<<28) "practical maximum" I
mentioned above.
So, if you always want the maximum amount of shared memory,
then change the definition of SHMMAX to the following:
#define SHMMAX (PAGE_SIZE<<_SHM_IDX_BITS) /* max shared seg
size (bytes) */
That gives you 128 MB in and of itself (as compared with 32 MB
as Red Hat 5.2 is delivered).
If you want the full 256 MB that is allowed for in the memory
map, then you need to also change:
#define SHMIDX_BITS 16
The above value is **exactly** what is recommended on the web
page you were following (above).
If you want to keep going up, you will need to change the
memory space allocated for shared memory as defined by
SHM_RANGE_START and SHM_RANGE_END, something I advise against.
=====
Even on a machine with 512 MB of "real" memory, I find it hard
to believe that there would be any substantial benefit to
having a maximum shared memory space greater than 256 MB. The
reason is that Oracle can use multiple shared memory spaces.
It requires a minimum of ten (10), according to the installation
manual, but the Red Hat 5.2 distribution supplies SHMMNI (128)
of them. That will allow each Oracle process to have a total
of up to 32 GB of shared memory (128 times 256 MB) and all it
asks for is 40 GB (10 times 4 GB), so it has plenty, IMHO.
=====
Let me say a few more words about the web page you were using
for configuration advice. That person actually **reduced** the
amount of shared memory segments by specifying **lower values**
for SHMMNI and SHMSEG.
I'd **STRONGLY** recommend **NOT CHANGING** those other values!
Its my understanding that Oracle can make up for the smaller
maximum shared memory segment size by using more shared memory
segments. So, if you reduce those, you are essentially shooting
yourself in the foot by taking away what you are giving with
increasing the maximum segment size.
=====
Good luck, and may this farce be with you!

How can I make the last photo taken display first (Arrangement by date AND time)?
In PSE 3 Organizer, if I choose Arrangement -> Date (Newest First), it puts the photos I took yesterday first, but within a day, it puts the oldest first. In other words, all of yesterday's photos are first, but the ones taken in the morning appear before the ones taken in the afternoon. I really don't think it worked like this when we first got the software, and I'd like to know how to fix it.
If I choose Arrangement -> Date (Oldest First), it seems to work correctly, sorting by date and time so that the oldest photos really are first.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd really appreciate the help.
MichelleWhat you are seeing is the default behaviour, which I think is logical - I like to see my latest batch of work near the top, but have them appear in the order I took them. There is an option in Edit/Preferences which lets you have the oldest first.

How do you make the actually open safari iCloud tabs sync between iMac and iPad?
I'm trying to have it so the web browser tabs I actually have open and viewing at any time, are synced between my iMac and my iPad.
This doesn't appear to work via iCloud Safari tabs, you just get the tabs open on your iMac as a list you can access on the iPad if you go digging through options.
Any help would be very much appreciated!Hello JordanCS88,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
The following article provides information for troubleshooting Calendar syncing. For your issues on your Macbook, see the section "Troubleshooting on OS X".
