How do I open a PDF file in my browser instead of in Adobe Reader?

Windows XP SP3
Adobe Reader 11.0.3
SeaMonkey 2.19 (which has the same internal "guts" as Firefox 22)
It used to be that, if I selected a link to a PDF file from a Web page, the file would open in my browser.  Now, it opens in an Adobe Reader window.  How do I restore the opening in my browser.
I have tried following http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them?s=Vie w+PDFs+in+browser&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_using-a-pdf-reader-plugin without success.  I noticed during those attempts that, if I go to [Edit - Preferences] on the Adobe Reader menu bar and then select Internet under Categories, the "Display PDF in browser" check box no longer exists.

Aha!  The properties for the plugin file nppdf32.dll for Adobe Reader indicate the file is for Adobe Acrobat.  This misidentification is then used by SeaMonkey as a label in the helper application list.
Adobe Reader 11.0.3.37:  nppdf32.dll has version 11.0.3.37.  This is the version in SeaMonkey's plugins folder.
Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8.218:  nppdf32.dll has version 7.0.9.50.
As for having both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat on the same PC, this generally works providing Reader is installed AFTER Acrobat.  Reader is freeware, and I want to keep it current.  Acrobat is purchaseware, and I cannot afford to keep buying  upgrades or newer versions.

  • Opening a pdf in Acrobat 9 automatically instead of in adobe Reader

I have both Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 Pro in my PC. When I double-click a pdf file, it'll be opened automatically in Reader 9. Then I notice that when I right-click over a pdf filename, 'Open with Adobe Reader 9' comes before 'Open with Acrobat 9'. How/Where do I change/reset a preference to have a pdf opened automatically in Acrobat 9 when I double-click a pdf?

Unfortunately, it's not that simple because Acrobat and Reader share files, and that's why Adobe recommends not to have them both installed in the same machine.

  • How do I open a PDF file with Adobe Reader if it is in iBooks

I have a number of PDF files in my iBooks library.  I just downloaded Adobe Reader for the iPad.  I can't see how I can open those PDF files.  The only thing I seem to be able to do with them is to open them from iBooks directly.  Doing that does not provide me with the features that Adobe Reader would provide (such as searching for particular text, etc.).

Use iTunes to save the PDF FROM iBooks, and to add them to Adobe Reader.
Connect your iPad to your computer. Bring up iTunes on your computer.
To save a PDF FROM iBooks, click on "Books" in the Library section on the left. Select the PDF you want to save and right-click and choose Show in Finder (Show in Explorer in Windows). Go up one level in your computer hierarchy and you'll see all the "Books" (PDFs and eBooks) in iBooks.  You can leave them here if you want to view the PDFs in iBooks in the future, or drag them to the Desktop.
To move the PDF TO Adobe Reader:
Return to iTunes. Click on the iPad on the left in Devices. Click on the Apps tab. Scroll down the the File Sharing section as shown below. Click on Adobe Reader. Click the Add button and select the PDFs you identified in the previous step. They'll be added to Adobe Reader

for example: open in ie with url: "c:\\a.efb#toolbar=0 ", but it can not see anything, the "a.efb" is a sure pdf file that just change the file ext. however i can open  the file in ie without paramters!
my english is not well,if you know what i say ,please write the answer, thanks!

I do not know why you want to open a local file in IE, and not directly in Adobe Reader.
Does it work if you rename the file extension to .pdf?
If yes, then maybe it will work if you create a file association for .efb as AcroExch.Document to open with AcroRd32.exe

I am getting this response when I am trying to open a file: Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser.”  What do I do?  I have opened this up in the past without a problem.

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Nothing to do with the download; you need to open Adobe Reader once after the install is complete, and accept the EULA.

    Hi Tbeirne,
If you just want to save a pdf opened in Safari to your machine use the save as option from within the Reader plugin window. Just click on any of the buttons highlighted in below screenshots to Save a pdf at any location on your machine.
    or
To summarize the issue, if you had opened an Internet PDF in a browser plug-in, you must use the save feature in the plug-in, not the Safari File > PDF Export, or File > Save As...
Please let us know if this solution works for you and you are able to save and view PDFs files locally.
