    i cannot figure this out, either. and i am also not able to set a custom page size to tile (in this case, tabloid/landscape). the dialog box defaults to my ppd for my epson printer (max size = letter) even when i select the drop down for "printing" to a post script file. I've been using illustrator since it's first release and i'm really surprised that this is rudimentary step in finalizing docs for release has been complicated.

  • How do I save a Pages 2012 document as an iWork '08 file?

    How do I save a Pages 2012 document as an iWork '08 file?

    Kev,
    The File > Save... dialog seems to be only available for documents that are in an "unversioned" state. (I don't know what the official title is for the condition of having a document that is unmodified from its initial naming, so I'll call it "unversioned", meaning that it hasn't had a version update to it's base state.
    If you start from a template your first save will be a File > Save... Right after this first Save, your document has no Version History. It's "unversioned".
    If you File > Duplicate you have created a new document in an "unversioned" state and your next Command-S will give you the option to save a copy to '08 format, the same option you had during your first document save.
    My understanding of this situation is that any file with a Version History is stored across two files, one with the base document and one containing the revisions, the changes you've made since the initial save. Save a Version updates the file containing the changes. File > Duplicate combines the base file and the revisions into one new base document, ready to be Saved. After saving, if you make some changes in this new document your option is again to Save a Version or Duplicate and the cycle continues.
    There are also Revert options that I haven't discussed, but I haven't studied them to know what the menu behavior is.
    I know it can seem confusing and I'm not defending it, but I will recognize Apple's right to try to move the technology forward and I accept that I can learn what's going on and move with them, or I can get off the bus and watch it go down the road without me. It's not the first time I've had to try to figure out what's going on, and I'm sure it won't be the last. If you think I have the logic wrong I'd love to discuss your observations. I'm not interested in discussing if Apple should be doing this or not.

  • How do I print part of a document, say a paragraph?

    I am a newcomer to Macdom, being ex-PC. Can anyone tell me how, in iWrite, I can print part of a document, say a paragraph. At present all I can do is print everything on the page, sometimes pages long.

    Some applications have a choice for this in the print window. For those applications that do no offer this option, I recommend using Print Selection available from http://www.schubert-it.com/free/

  • JEditorPane: how to replace small parts of the document?

    Hi
    Im trying to create an application that will allow two people to type into two different JEditorPanes, but have the two people essentially editing the same document. So if one person types someting into thier frame, I want that modification sent to the other frame as well.
    The problem I've come across is how to make changes to the contents of the frame without interfering with the person whos trying to type into it. That problem boils down to how do you replace only a small part of the document whithout taking control of the users caret?

    Hopfully I got your problem right. To change only small parts of the EditorPane's document should not be the probelm you can get it with EditorPane.getDocument(). But I think you have to take control over the caret, because the when user 1 has finished editing and sends the doc to user 2 who is editing the doc, user 2's caret position will change because the document length has changed.
    The easiest way would be to add an input area (TextArea) for each user where they can type theit text and than to add the text into the document when they press enter, so you don't have the trouble with te caret position. If you don't want to do this then you could try that: the input of the users is cached while they are typing (not changing the doc) till they press enter. Then the doc is send to the other user, the users doc in the pane is updated and his current typing is added to the end of the new received doc. You can figure out the correct position by doc.getLength() and set the new caret position to doc.length + currentTyping.length
    Hope that helps

  • How to retrieve a part of XML document

    Dear Everyone
    I am using
    Oracle: Berkeley DB XML 2.4.16: (October 21, 2008)
    Berkeley DB 4.6.21: (September 27, 2007)
    with python api on mac OSX.
    I want to copy a part of XML document within the document.
    For example, assume that we have the following XML in dbxml.
    <A>
    <B id="1">
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    </B>
    </A>
    I want to copy <B> with different "id" like,
    <A>
    <B id="1">
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    </B>
    <B id="2">
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    </B>
    </A>
    How can I do this?
    One more question. I want to retrieve a part of XML as string.
    For example,
    I want to have a string ' <B id="1"><C>hello</C><D>hi</D></B>'
    How can I do this?
    Thank you very much for your kind help in advance.
    Best regards,
    -Yoshi

    Hi,
    I couldn't add a document like you described:
    dbxml
    dbxml> createC test.dbxml
    dbxml> putD "mydoc" "<C>hello</C><D>hi</D>" "s"
    stdin:5: putDocument failed, Error: Error: XML Indexer: Fatal Parse error in document at line 1, char 13. Parser message: Expected comment or processing instruction (Document: mydoc)
    but, if I fix it and make it well formed it worked, so for
    the experiment I did that:
    dbxml> putD "mydoc" "<mydoc><C>hello</C><D>hi</D></mydoc>" "s"
    Document added, name = mydoc
    I could have added as two separate documents, document 1: <C>hello</C>,
    document 2: <D>hi</D>, but, I don't know what you are trying to do, so
    I'll stick with this example to the first.
    Then I ran a query to show what you did:
    dbxml> query 'collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/*'
    2 objects returned for eager expression 'collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/*'
    dbxml> print
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    I can do the same thing using a query that returns something:
    dbxml> query 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return $i'
    2 objects returned for eager expression 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return $i'
    dbxml> print
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    This duplicates, but the wrong way:
    dbxml> query 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return ($i,$i)'
    4 objects returned for eager expression 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return ($i,$i)'
    dbxml> print
    <C>hello</C>
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    <D>hi</D>
    dbxml> query 'for $j in (1,2) for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return $i'
    4 objects returned for eager expression 'for $j in (1,2) for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/* return $i'
    dbxml> print
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    <C>hello</C>
    <D>hi</D>
    And, finally, for your last string example:
    dbxml> query 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/C for $j in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/D return concat("<C>",$i,"</C>", "<D>", $j, "</D>")'
    1 objects returned for eager expression 'for $i in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/C for $j in collection("test.dbxml")/mydoc/D return concat("<C>",$i,"</C>", "<D>", $j, "</D>")'
    dbxml> print
    <C>hello</C><D>hi</D>
    I don't get the 'id' change though.
    I hope this helps.

  • How disabled the save icon of pdf document ?

    Hello,
    My gool is to disable the save icon of pdf document when i open the pdf document inside flex application.
    Have you any idea?
    Thank you

    You can not.
    But you can apply document security or apply Digital Rights Management.
    If you can get the users to add a special Acrobat/Reader application folder JS file, you could remove the button, but you would still have the menu items for 'Save' and 'Save as' and the keyboard short cut of '<Ctrl> + S'.

  • How can i save and download word documents on my ipad without the pages app

    Need to know how to save documents on my ipad so i can share the same version of documents between my computer and my ipad on the same network. I do not have the pages app. and Most of the documents are either pdfs of word docs. so need to be able to save them on ipad and retrieve them when i am on the move. Pls help?

    You have to have an app on the iPad that is compatible with the particular file type that you want to save, edit or share. You can look at any of the word processing apps - Pages is one, Documents to Go, Quick Office Pro - but you have to have one like that in order to save and edit Word files.
    With pdf files - iBooks will work to save them - but that's all. Other apps like GoodReader will let you annotate them.
    You have to decide which app will serve your needs best and them download them in order to save, edit and share those file types.

  • How do I save Appleworks databases and documents when I upgrade to Maverick?

    I have a lot of databases and documents in Appleworks. How can I access them if I upgrade to Maverick?

    As of Lion (10.7) the PowerPC compatibility "Rosetta" utility is no longer supported by Apple.  So PowerPC programs such as AppleWorks no longer work.
    You can run Snow Leopard (10.6) on an external drive or on a partition on your internal drive to continue running PowerPC programs under the Rosetta utility.  Using the Startup Manager http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1310 you would boot Snow Leopard to run the PowerPC applications and then reboot a newer OS (10.7, 10.8 or 10.9) to run normally.
    If you will be using the PowerPC applications often and you want to run them on Snow Leopard at the same time you run a newer operating system, then you can use Parallels.  You need to call Apple to order it.  You need the Snow Leopard Server version to use it with Parallels.
    Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).

  • How can I save pages as a document with the new Mavericks version of pages?

    Is there any way to save a pages document as a Microsoft document?  Additionally, is there any way to save a numbers document as an Excel document?
    Since I have downloaded the new Mavericks software with the new Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, I can't save anything as a Microsoft document anymore.  Can anyone please help?  I'm a student needing an answer because most institutions only use Microsoft.  This is an extremely upsetting fall back for Apple if there isn't a way to accomplish these activities.
    Also, if anyone has any information if Apple is going to provide new drivers for old HP printers and scanners, please inform me.  My multi-functional printer is obsolete (according to a phone conversation with HP).  Currently, I have to jump through hoops to get the scanner to work and Preview crashes most of the time (with the Mavericks update).

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    iWork does not let you save a document as an Office document by default, so you have to do some extra steps. First open the document and go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export to, and choose the Office app to create a document for Microsoft Office.
    Respecting to printer drivers, Apple does not provide newer drivers for an obsolete printer. Instead, see if Gutenprint works > http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

  • How do I save an email as document/file?

    I need to save an email as a document/file for business.  When I right click the email, I am not given the option to do so.  I also tried to drag it into the finder, but didn't work.  I'm a recent convert to the Apple world.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    You can also copy and paste the text of the message into a Word Processiing program.
    Also in the email program I use, Thunderbird, there is an option to save an email as a Text fFile. Not sure about what email program you are using. If it's Mac Mail that may not be an option.

  • How to set only part of the document as "read-only"?

    Hi,
    I am using SharePoint 2010. I would like to set some of the columns as "read-only" while some of them are still editable. If I use Advanced Settigns>Item-Level Permissions, I can only set the whole document as "read-only".
    Is there a way I can do what I wannt?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
     There is no OOTB way to set a column as read-only.  I think you want to make some of the fields as Read-Only in the EditForm.aspx. If so, then you can use the Javascript to do.
    Add a Content editor webpart to the Editform.aspx page and place the javascript method to make a field read-only.
    You can use the _spBodyOnLoadFunctionNames.push("MakeReadOnly()") method to assocaite your method to the EditForm.
    Here are the links which will help you.
