How do I share music in 2nd user account?

I have had so much trouble with itunes 7.3 that I went back to 7.2. But I still can't burn, it just keeps looking like it's burning but never does and never finishes. . So, I want to try burning in a 2nd user account I created. I know I need to move a folder ? a itunes folder to the shared folder. I just need more info on all what's involved. I thought I read it somewhere at this website, but where? A frustated mac user. mmmmm.... Your help appriceiated.

I option dragged the 47 GB itunes folder to the shared folder. I then loged into the 2nd account , opened itunes, opened preferences, set the library to shared folde, itunes. Now what. No music is showing. Is there something else I need to do? This is not the first time I opened itunes in this 2nd account. I did so prior to this switch.
I am so, so frustrated with this iTunes 7.3 screwing up my burning, artwork and who knows what else. 2 + months of ****.
One thing I should mention, I have tried to burn in safe mode, still no luck. mmmm.
My next question is going to be , if I back up the music folder with the songs only, then trash every darn thing I can find thats iTunes, Then reinstall 7.2, then drag the backed up iTunes music song folder into iTunes, thus reimporting them, will it work? Will it have the song names and other info?
Or would I be seeing song # 1 thru 1,600 without names?
Thanks.

  • How do you share music between two user accounts for multimedia purposes???

I am working with iDVD and am running into a slight snafu. My girlfriend has most of the pictures in her iPhoto account, while I have most of the music in my iTunes account. (she works on maintaining our over flowing pictures, while I handle paying for all our music... works out nice. <wink>)
Anyways, we were both working on a new photo DVD for family using iDVD and were frustrated that we could not pull in music from my iTunes account to use with her pictures in iDVD. I am uncertain if we are doing anything wrong and just do not know how to do it, or if it is not possible. We also have a few pictures on my iPhoto account we wanted to add to the DVD, but cannot access those either from her account while in iDVD.
Is it possible to share this data back and forth without making two copies of all of it?
    Thanks for all your help!!

Follow the steps after the section that says "If you have an earlier version of Mac OS X", Quintalis. It explains how to do it without the Fast User Switching/iTunes Sharing which is indeed limited only to playback.
Note that when it says "publicly accessible location", it needs to be a place where everyone has read and write access. The most common such place is the Shared folder in the Users folder.

  • In trying to share music with multiple user accounts on one comp, I quit itunes, located my itunes media folder, moved it to a publicly accessible location. Problem is it didn't work and now I can't get it all back to the way it was.

In trying to share music with multiple users on one computer, I followed the directions on "iTunes:How to share music between different accounts on a single computer" (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203). I did something wrong because i lost iTunes
Tried to put files back, but it is not the same. Plugged in my ipod and it is not recognizing my computer.
Can someone tell me where iTunes should be, and what sub files should be included with it. Thanks!

If you are seeing the "Connect to iTunes" logo, then your device is in Recovery Mode, and you will need to restore it:

  • HT3819 How do I share music between different users on the same computer?

I understand Home Sharing helps me share music across different computers.  How do I share between different users on the same computer?  We have a few instances of iTunes on a single computer and have to download from the same CD each time.  I must be doing something wrong - seems crazy to have several copies of the same song on one hard-drive when Home Share allows for sharing across computers - how do I share within the same computer?  Please outline specific steps.  THANKS.

  • How do I share music from different itunes accounts in the same Mac, in different users account on that Mac with different iPhones?

    Hi
My wife and I share the same Mac.
She has her session and I have mine thus each of us has our iTunes session with our own music and settings.
She has her iTunes account and I have mine too.
And..;)...she has her Iphone and of course I also have mine.
    So, the big question:
Both like music that the other has bought but we do not want to buy it twice! (through her account and mine).
Is there a way to share music I purchase so she can have it in her iTunes session and therefore have it also on her iPhone when she syncs..and of course viceversa for me too?
It goes without saying that although we like music the other one has, we do not like all of the music, so basically we want to have the possibility to share those special songs we like so we can have them both in our phones and individual Itunes sessions.
Was that clear or I lost you???
Any answer will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

First of all if you havent done it yet i think u shold authorize the mac on both accounts on itunes. You also can switch the accounts on your Iphones at itunes while you are in the internet adn download the music.
This is just an idea you should think of. For sure there are other ways I dont know.

  • How do I share aperture among different user accounts?

I do not want to share fotos between the two accounts, just the application.  When I set up the two user accounts I appear to be automatically given two different itunes, iphoto, etc.  That is what i would like to do with aperture, although currently it is sitting in the use account that was open when I downloaded it and cannot be accessed from the other user account.

Move the Word (or Office) folder from your user/Applications folder to the Macintosh HD/Applications folder. There it can be accessed by all users.
    iTunes Music is slightly different as that's user-oriented, but you should be able to allow other accounts to use it by opening iTunes and selecting iTunes/Preferences in the menu bar. Select the Sharing option and choose what to share;
If the other account holder then checks the 'look for shared libraries' option, she should be able to access whatever music you choose to share.

  • How can I share folders between 2 User Accounts?

I have 2 accounts. One for work and one for home. The home account is the main one as I keep my work one (DJ use) very limited concerning activities running. I still need to access some folders that are on the home account (pics, music..etc.) but I see a little red negative sign (protected). I know its a simple little thing im over looking but cannot think of it.
Also, when I use fast user switching is the other account still running and using resources?
    Thanks!

Log in from the home account, select the folders you're trying to access in the Finder, and change all three of the permission settings to Read & Write; if both accounts are admin accounts, you can optionally change the first two to Read & Write and the group to admin. A new group can be created in the NetInfo Manager in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder if you want another set of accounts to access the folder; to do this, duplicate an existing group, pick an unique name for the new group, and change its gid to 400 or another unique number in the 400-499 range.
The processes and applications opened under another user account continue to run when Fast User Switching is used to switch out of it.

  • How can i share files across multiple user accounts?

I have four user accounts on the same iMac and I'd like to be able to view the files within each account.  When I try access one of the other three accounts through Finder, the folders have red minus signs on them.  If I try to open one, I get an error message about not have the right authorities.  However, I've given all four user accounts administrator access.  Thanks.

Thanks for the response.  Do I change the rights by opening the folder, clicking "Get Info" and chaning the permissions to "write and read?"  If so, I did that.  Is there anything else I need to do?

  • How do you share music between two iTunes accounts on one computer?

My wife and I share a Windows 7 laptop computer.  We have separate Windows logins and separate iTunes accounts.  When we had separate computers we were able to use Home Sharing to share our music but this doesn't work when you have two accounts on the same computer.
Is there a way to share our music libraries without wiping out what is already stored in our individual iTunes music libraries?

  • How do I share my photographs between User Accounts

I want to share my iphoto photographs between users on the iMAC. Is this as suimple as moving the iphoto folder to the public folder?
    iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Davinho
No it's not that simple. iPhoto is a single user app, not designed for multiple users working simultaneously.
What do you mean by sharing? If you want the others to have the ability to VIEW photos, there's a way. In the main account got to iPhoto -> Preferences -> Sharing and enable Share this Library. Leave iPhoto running and go to the other account using Fast User Switching. In that account, enable 'Look for Shared Libraries' in the iPhoto Preferences, an the main library will turn up in the left hand pane of iPhoto. Remember iPhoto must be running in the main account for this to work.
If you want the others to be able to add, edit, keyword etc., then that's a different way. In this case, move the iPhoto Library Folder to the Users/Shared folder. This way both accounts can see it. Then you'll need to configure the permissions to allow everyone read/write access. (you can do this using BatchMod from http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/)
Then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto, Choose 'Locate' and navigate to the new location for the library. Repeat for both accounts. This will give read/write access tot he library for both accounts.
However, as I said above, iPhoto is not designed for multiple users accessing the db simultaneously. Doing this increases the likelihood of db corruption greatly, so backing up is the order of the day.
Personally, especially if you're still finding your way on the Mac, I recommend the first way. It's safer. When your confidence is up, you can easily move on to the second way.

    TD
