How do I stop getting shared calendar notifications?

If I share a calendar to someone in read-only mode, how can I prevent them from being spammed with notifications every time I add or change appointments?  Similarly, when I've subscribed to someone else's shared calendar, can I prevent myself from being similarly spammed?

Going to answer my own question after searching the web a bit more...
The setting is not in the Notification Center, where you'd expect...  it's in the Calendar app on OS X, and in the Mail, Contacts and Calendar settings in iOS 6 (don't know about 7 yet ).
In OS X, open your Calendar and from the menu bar choose Calendar > Preferences and then highlight the Alerts tab.  Second from the bottom is a checkbox labelled "Turn off shared calendar messages in Notification Center"... it's unchecked, and you need to put a check mark (aka tick) in that box.  To be honest, I think this is poorly designed, because putting a check mark in a box to disable a setting is rather like a double negative, and probably why I've seen so many people think they have this set correctly when in fact the opposite is true.
There's a similar setting on iPhones/iPads too, and again it's hidden away, but at least it's the right way round.  Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and scroll right to the bottom.  Where it says "Shared Calendar Alerts" change this setting to "OFF" (it's ON by default).

  • Not getting shared calendar notifications on new MacBook Pro

Once I got a new MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB flash storage) and transferred my data from my old MacBook, I stopped getting notifications of changes made to shared calendars owned by someone else. (Changes made by others to shared calendars that I own still generate notifications.)
In iCloud preferences, Calendars is checked.
Calendar is in my Notification Center, and its notifications are set as alerts.
In Calendar preferences, "Turn off shared calendar messages in Notification Center" is not checked.
In Info for individual shared calendars, "Ignore alerts" is not checked.
I removed one of the shared calendars, then its owner resent an invitation to it, and I accepted. It didn't help; I still did not receive notifications.

This is very strange, but yesterday, weeks after I set up my new machine and found this problem, I started getting shared calendar notifications again out of the blue. I have no explanation.

  • How do I stop a shared calendar from sending a separate alert from each device it's loaded on?

I have shared calendars in iCal that are shared by:
    - a Macbook
    - an iPod Touch
    - an iPad; and
    - two iPhones (4S and 5)
When I create and event with an alert email, the alert is emailed to me 3+ times. Quite annoying. Any ideas how to resolve or have only one alert as I've set for the event?
Separartely, I do have problems with iCal inserting alerts that I don't set (not default here, just plain added alerts). That is manageable but it's the multiple identical alerts, especially emails, that are wasting my time.
FYI OS on Macs is current, iOS 7 on mobiles (though this problem pre-dates the update.

Oh right - also shared on an iMac that has previous OS X.

Once you've turned off notifications, you won't get new ones. But you still have to cancel the notifications you've been receiving. This thread explains how at the top: https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/email.html

How can I stop the sharing on the iPhones that are on my account because its sharing everything even text messages and its driving everybody crazy

An icloud account is designed to be used by one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
If you have muitiple family members or friends using the same account as yours, then have them get their own Apple IDs and icloud accounts.
If you mean you want to stop the sharing between all your devices, then on any one device, go to Settings>icloud and turn off the services you don't want that device to share/sync.  Or turn off icloud altogether if that's what you want.

To stop all email notifications or to select those you want to have go to Your Stuff in the top right of this window. Then select Your Preferences. When that page loads you will see a tab for Email Notifications. Select that and go through the choice for how or when you want to be notified by email, or not.

How do I stop getting text messages on my MacBook Air?

    Hi,
The Mac has an App that is called Messages and one of the accounts in it is the iMessages one that can sync with the iOS one.
Open the Messages app and go to the Preferences (In the drop down Menu in the Apps name in the Menu Bar)
In the Preferences select the Accounts tab.
Select the iMessages account  if it is not selected.
Untick the iPhone Number to stop iMessages sent to your iPhone Number appearing on your Mac.
Also go to the General section of the Preferences.
There is an items that reads "When I quit, set the Status to Off Line"  select this.
This will stop any incoming Messages (from any source that Messages can join) from launching to app when you have not started it but your Computer is On.
You may also want to go to your iPhone Settings and remove the Apple ID.
