How do u pass an object into a method

I want to create a method getData that takes an object of type Helper and returns an object of the same type.
how do u pass objects into a method and how do u get objects as returns im a bit confused

That will just allow you to pass a parameter. If you want to return a helper object
Helper paramHelper = new Helper();
Helper someHelper = callMethod(paramHelper);
public Helper callMethod(Helper hobj) {
    //<some code>
    Helper retHelper = new Helper();
    //<blah, blah>
    return retHelper;

  • How can I pass a value into a page fragment?

    How can I pass a value into a page fragment?
    I am implementing four search screens. And the only thing different about them will be their backing bean.
    So I’d like to do something like have four pages, each which retrieves its appropriate backing bean, sets that bean to a variable, and then includes a page fragment which contains the generic search page code (which will make use of that variable).
    The code in the four pages would be something like this:
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1252'?>
    <jsp:root xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" version="2.0"
    xmlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core">
    <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"/>
    <c:set var="searchPageBackingBean"
    value="#{pageFlowScope.employeeSearchPageBean}"
    scope="page"/>
    <jsp:include page="./SearchPageBody.jsff"/>
    </jsp:root>
    At this point, what I’m seeing is that the fragment page, SearchPageBody.jsff, has no visibility of the searchPageBackingBean variable, either referencing it as #{pageFlowScope.searchPageBackingBean} or just #{searchPageBackingBean}

    The following will work, assuming you are needing to access a managed bean:
    Put this in the parent page:
    <c:set var="nameOfSearchPageBackingBean"
    value="employeeSearchPageBean"
    scope="request"/>
    Put this in the child, SearchPageBody.jsff:
    <c:set var="searchPageBean"
    value="#{pageFlowScope[nameOfSearchPageBackingBean]}"
    scope="page"/>

  • How to call a java method so I can pass a file into the method

    I want to pass a file into a java method method from the main method. Can anyone give me some help as to how I pass the file into the method - do I pass the file name ? are there any special points I need to put in the methods signature etc ?
    FileReader file = new FileReader("Scores");
    BufferedReader infile = new BufferedReader(file);
    Where am I supposed to put the above text - in the main method or the one I want to pass the file into to?
    Thanks

    It's a matter of personal preference really. I would encapsulate all of the file-parsing logic in a separate class that implements an interface so that if in the future you want to start taking the integers from another source, e.g. a db, you wouldn't need to drastically alter your main application code. Probably something like this, (with an assumption that the numbers are delimited by a comma and a realisation that my file-handling routine sucks):
    public class MyApp{
    public static void main(String[] args){
    IntegerGather g = new FileIntegerGatherer();
    Integer[] result = g.getIntegers(args[0]);
    public interface IntegerGatherer{
    public Integer[] getIntegers(String location);
    import java.io.*;
    public class FileIntegerGatherer implements IntegerGatherer{
    public Integer[] getIntegers(String location){
    FileInputStream fs=null;
    try{
    File f = new File(location);
    fs = new FileInputStream(f);
    byte[] in = new byte[1024];
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
    while((fs.read(in))!=-1){
    sb.append(new String(in));
    StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(sb.toString(),",");
    Integer[] result = new Integer[st.countTokens()];
    int count = 0;
    while(st.hasMoreTokens()){
    result[count]=Integer.valueOf(st.nextToken());
    count++;
    catch(IOException e){
    //something sensible here
    finally{
    if(fs!=null){
    try{
    fs.close();
    catch(IOException f){
    return result;
    Once compiled you could invoke it as java MyApp c:\myInts.txt
    Sorry if there are typos in there, I don't have an ide open ;->

  • How can I pass an object to a function by value?

    Hi
    I have a function with an argument. this argument is an object. I don't want to alter this object. But java passes this object by reference and some fields in this object are altered after function return.
    How can I pass this object by value and keep my original data unbroken?
    thanks for any help

    How can I pass this object by value and keep my original data unbroken?How you approach it is likely to depend on how much control you have over the code in question. If it's legacy code and has been badly designed, there's probably very little you can do to protect existing code short of a complete refactoring.
    What you could do as an interim measure is:
    1. Create an immutable wrapper to your existing mutable class.
    2. Create new methods that replicate the existing ones, but take the immutable class instead.
    3. Deprecate the old methods.
    This won't break client code, but they will now get warnings when they compile and you can add documentation to point them to the new class/methods.
    If you are in control of the code (especially if you're still in the design stages), you've got several options:
    1. As Dr.Clap says, make your class immutable (probably best).
    2. If this isn't possible, create mutable and immutable variants of your class. This is often best achieved by hanging them both from an interface.

    Hi,
    What is requirement for passing the data in a single line ? Do you finally need to append the same in the internal table and pass it in the module ?
    You can create an internal table of type 1000 character and can loop the existing internal table. Then you can append the Work area in a single line and can finally append it to the table.
    DATA : ITAB type standard table of char1000.
    Loop at <existing table>.
    concatenate table work area wa_char100 into Itab_char_1000.
    endloop.
    APPEND itab_char_1000 into itab.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.

  • Passing an object into a tag

    Hello
    I have a tag file called foo.tag
    <%@tag description="some tag" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <%@tag import="java.util.*"%>
    <%@attribute name="list" type="java.util.List" required="true"%>
    <h4>I am a list</h4>
    <p>Class: <%=list.getClass()%></p>And in my index.jsp I do:
    <%@ taglib prefix="jc" tagdir="/WEB-INF/tags" %>
    <%
          List bar = new ArrayList();
          bar.add("test");
    %>
    <jc:foo list="<%=bar%>"/>..in order to pass the reference of bar in my tag. That works, but I know that it's "bad" practice to have <%= %> inside your JSPs. How could I improve the parameter passing? If I say <jc:foo list="bar"/> then I only get a "bar" String on the tag file.
    thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
    But is there a better way of doing this? Yeah, there is a slightly better way if you are using JSP 2.0 (properly configured). Then you can do:
    <% List bar = new ArrayList();
       bar.add("foo");
       request.setAttribute("bar", bar);
    %>
    <jc:foo list="${bar}"/>
        public void setList(List theList) { ... }
    Can't I just
    feed the object into the tag as an object?Not directly. The List you create in the scriptlet has a limited scope, just inside the _jspService method.  This scope isn't really available to things like tags and EL, so you have to put it in a scope where it can be found - something like the request, or page scopes.

  • How do I convert an Object into an Array?

    If I have an instance of type object that I know is really a DataGrid row that was cast into an object when passed to a function, how can I cast that Object to an array, such that each index of this array would correspond to the information in a given column of the row?

    @Sathyamoorthi
    Can you please explain what this function does? Essentially, what should be contained in the String?
    I printed out the string and it seems like I am getting a random row in the Object, as opposed to first or last. Why is that?
    UPDATE: I printed out the value of dataGrid0.columns[5].dataField but it just turned out to be the id of the column.

  • How can I convert table object into table record format?

    I need to write a store procedure to convert table object into table record. The stored procedure will have a table object IN and then pass the data into another stored procedure with a table record IN. Data passed in may contain more than one record in the table object. Is there any example I can take a look? Thanks.

    I'm afraid it's a bit labourious but here's an example.

  • How to get customer-specific objects into PCUI ?

    Hello,
    we want to get an Z-table as tab page of the business partner-application into PCUI. It should 'only' be possible to create new entries - today there is no need to modify or delete records.
    Does there exist something like a "cookbook" on this task or has anyone of you experience how to get customer-specific objects (without using EEWB) into PCUI ?
    Thanks in advance
    Martin

    Option 1:
    If you are good in ABAP.
    You can add new tab in which create a new Field group. Assign it to a model access clas in which handle the table update.You can get the details in PCUI cookbook itsel.
    Option 2:
    If you are good at java
    Develop an FM to update the table.
    Call the FM from webdynpro
    Include this webdynpro as HTML viewer in PCUI.
