How do we find instance name in ORACLE 10g

Hi All,
How do we find SID name in Oracle 10g
Thanks in advance
Pandiarajan

Apology accepted.
But yes, of course I was harsh (not at you, actually, but at the plonker who thinks he can tell me that 'echo $something' is "not right").
Do you know how many questions could be answered here if people weren't forever debating perfectly acceptable answers? If people actually stopped to read what had been written before deciding to add their tuppence-worth? If people stopped to think, "well, that's not how I would answer it... but it's good enough".
I see so many threads here where 58 people dive in to a thread to say, 'Me too'. Another 42 will dive in to say, 'that's not right' when actually it is. And another 137 or so will usually chime in to say nothing very much except to demonstrate that they didn't understand something that was explained a lot earlier on quite clearly. Threads go on and on, when actually all that was sought originally was a simple answer to a technical issue. God knows why it happens.
I have no problem at all being asked for clarification. I have no problem at all being corrected and having someone point out that actually that parameter doesn't exist, you made a typo, that's not the command to achieve X. When I am technically wrong, I would expect nothing less. But where so much of my time gets wasted is demonstrated in this thread perfectly. I answered the question in one post. It might not have been a perfect answer. There are many different ways of coming up with the answer on Windows, for example, and yet I didn't mention the registry at all or the Control Panel/System applet for checking environment variables once. And yet, despite all of that, in answer 1 there was sufficient information to make the OP happy. But no, that's not enough to shut some people up (and I am again not referring to you at this point).
I don't know what it is. Some sense of, maybe, in a democracy my opinion is as good as yours even if it's entirely unnecessary, potentially confusing and adds absolutely nothing to the outcome? A desire on the part of some people to boost their post numbers?
Too right I'm harsh. I am results-driven. I am here because I want to help others. Not because I think my opinions deserve a hearing even though the answer was posted ages ago. When I see something that looks like the opposite of that -grandstanding, look how clever I am, my opinion counts too- yeah, it annoys me somewhat. And largely because I usually end up having to untangle the confusion caused by unnecessary "contributions" from others.

  • How to create custom service name in oracle 10g

    Hi,
    I have installed oracle 10g, it has created default servicename as XE which is having only 4GB memory size. It is not sufficient to import my dmp file. I would like to created my own service name, How can I do it.
    Advice thanks for your instruction.

    Strange...
    You'd have to read (and accept) the OTN License Agreement (or, I guess, have a "regular" license), but as stated on the main software downloads index:
    "+All software downloads are free, and each comes with a Development License that allows you to use full versions of the products at no charge while developing and prototyping your applications (or for strictly self-educational purposes).+"

  • SID Name in oracle 10g

    Dear Experts,
    how I can find SID name in Oracle 10g databse, which i forget.
    thanks in advance

    On Unix/Linux, under $ORACLE_BASE/admin you should have a subdirectory for each SID. If the DB is active you can also do something like this
    $ ps -ef | grep smon | grep -v grep | cut -f8 | awk -F"_" '{print $3}'
    On Windows you should have a service OracleService<SID> for each SID.

  • How to Find the Current Instance Id in Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    how to find the current instance id in oracle 10g studio,
    I have the below code :
    if (InstanceScreenFlow.processInstance.id.id.indexOf(text : ins.id) < 0) {
    /// do something
    it is saying that "'processInstance' is not a function"
    Thanks,
    Brijesh Kumar Singh.

    Why not just pass in the "id" predefined variable into your screenflow? Once you do that you'll be able to refer to it as "id.id" anywhere inside your screenflow.

  • How to rename the column name in oracle 8i?

    hi,
    Does anyone know how to rename the column name in oracle 8i?My method was drop the relationship key first then delete the old column,finally add the new column.
    Thanks for your replay.
    jing

    There is no facilty to rename a column name in Oracle 8i. This is possible from Oracle 9.2 version onwards.
    For you task one example given below.
    Example:-
    Already existed table is ITEMS
    columns in ITEMS are ITID, ITEMNAME.
    But instead of ITID I want ITEMID.
    Solution:-
    step 1 :- create table items_dup
    as select itid itemid, itemname from items;
    step 2 :- drop table items;
    step 3 :- rename items_dup to items;
    Result:-
    ITEMS table contains columns ITEMID, ITEMNAME

  • How do I find the name of an append structure?

    Lets say I want to add a field to the component BT115QS_SLSQ (Sales quote search).
    I enhanced the component and the view (SlsQuotSQ).
    If I go to the context nodes and the context node BTQSLSQUOT.
    I can see the implementation class ZL_BT115QS_SLSQUOTESQ_CN00.
    If I go inside of this class I see a tab attributes with a field called base_entity_name
    the initial value is BTQSlsQuot for this attribute.
    But how would I ever know that the append strcture name for this component / view is CRMST_QUERY_SLSQUOT_BTIL ???
    I only displayed it above becuase I did endless searches and realized this is the one.  But is there an easier way to find the append strcture name so that when I go to SE11 I can either copy and paste it in or type it in.  Is there somewhere in the workbench or anywhere which tells me its in this case CRMST_QUERY_SLSQUOT_BTIL ???
    How do I find this name ?

    Edit:
    FOUND THE ANSWER!
    Here is a complete document I put together for anyone else with this issue.
    I would really love to blog SAP issues like this because there seems to be very little help on the forums for the CRM Web client side :(...
    Purpose
    The purpose of this document is to explain how to find the append structure and how to use it.
    Problem
    Letu2019s say I want to add a field to the component BT115QS_SLSQ (Sales quote search).
    I enhanced the component and the view (SlsQuotSQ).
    If I go to the context nodes and the context node BTQSLSQUOT (this is in the context nodes area)
    I can see the implementation class ZL_BT115QS_SLSQUOTESQ_CN00.
    If I go inside of this class I see a tab attributes with a field called base_entity_name
    the initial value is BTQSlsQuot for this attribute.
    That is the key here, in order to determine the append structure to use when going into SE11 you need to know the name of the base_entity_name.  In the above case the base entity name is BTQSlsQuot.
    That means you need to use BTQSlsQuot
    Step By Step Procedure
    1)     Get the base entity name as described above
    2)     Once the base entity name is given go to transaction GENIL_MODEL_BROWSER
    3)     Enter a component or a component set like so:
    a.
    4)     Press the green check box
    5)     For model select u201CDynamic Search Objectsu201D (for this particular case because we are trying to add a field to a dynamic search)
    6)     Select u201CDynamic Query Object BTQSlsQuotu201D
    7)     Once you expand this you should be given the attribute structure as shown below:
    Now you have the attribute structure name CRMST_QUERY_SLSQUOT_BTIL
    How To Use Append Structure
    Now that youu2019ve found the append structure to use it follow these steps:
    1)     Go to SE11
    2)     Click radio button Data type
    3)     Enter CRMST_QUERY_SLSQUOT_BTIL
    4)     Click display like so:
    a.
    5)     Click the u201Cappend structureu2026u201D button at the top right
    6)     Add the field as a ZZ field and enter the data type like so:
    a.

  • How to get the Instance Name of Creator

    Hi all.
    I have an idea but I don't how to implement it. I have tried about two days.
    the simplified concept that what I wnat is as follows
    class classA {
    classB objB = new classB();
    class classB {
    puclic void showObjName(){
    //How can I the Instance Name of Creator here?
    //In this Example. The name is objA.
    public class showCreator {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    classA objA = new classA();
    I try to instanciate an Throwable Object and use the getStackTrace method.
    but all information in the stack I got Do Not contain the Instances Name.
    Does any one have idea to implements this...
    Thanks.

    Yes. hashcode is not absolutely unique. I know this.
    I had took this idea into my consideration. But it failed finally.
    Thanks
    To JN_.
    Maybe I still have some misunderstood descripte my question.
    neither the name not an "instance name" nor an "object name".
    So now, I really do not know how to call this.
    Can you tell me? Then I will not make the same fault next time.
    thanks.

  • I found my college roomates band's cd . how can i find track names since its not in database. they were semifamous so it should come up

    How can i use itunes to find track names on cds from an old roomate"s band. Its a professional cd that was sold in stores but it shows up as track 1 track two. the database could not find them.
    I had another friend who made a cd and inputed all of the data but itunes still puts them as track 1 track two.  How can i find the names without manually putting them in?

    How can i find the names without manually putting them in?
    They will only show up in iTunes if someone (your friend, their producer, or a fan) has submitted them to Gracenote.
    If that did not happen, you can try identifying the tracks with an auto-tagging program such as Picard.

  • How do I find class name I should import for java method name

    If I have the class name I know how to look in java docs list for methods.
    If I have a method name but don't know the class,
    how do I find class name I should import to use the java method name?

    I'm not sure the other reply answered your question. If you truly don't know the class name, one approach would be a Google search. Another approach works if you have an IDE. Eclipse, for example, can find the class for you (assuming it's on your classpath) & automatically import it for you. Ctrl-Shift-O normally does the trick.

  • How we create new data base in oracle 10g express edition

    hello every body.. i student of B tech n new user of oracle so please help me how we creat new data base in oracle 10g express edition

    Hello, Oracle XE can not create more than one instance, the other editions yes, but like other editions XE allows you to create database schemas, schemas logically grouped objects like tables, views, indexes created by a user. By creating an Oracle user is associated with a schema of the same name.
    Using SYS or system accounts for creating user accounts.
    Syntax to create a user:
    create user Your_user
    IDENTIFIED BY password
    default tablespace users;
    grant connect, resources to your_user;

  • Which file decide instance name in RAC 10g ?

    Which file decide instance name in RAC 10g ?
    How does RAC know which instance should start from which machine?
    Thanks.

    The spfile is NOT the correct answer, actually.
    1. The instance name for any Oracle instance, whether in a RAC or not, is derived from the value for the ORACLE_SID parameter which is in force at the time the startup command is issued. If you were to:
    export ORACLE_SID=SALES
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    startup...you would just have created an instance called SALES.
    2. The spfile (or init.ora if you're not using an spfile) contains a parameter called INSTANCE_NAME. That defaults to whatever ORACLE_SID is set to as an environment variable when the instance is started, hence point 1 above. But you can force an instance to acquire a non-SID name by deliberately setting it to something different. That's unusual to do, though, except in a RAC context where you want to subvert the default load balancing mechanism.
    2b. The spfile (or init.ora) also contains a parameter called DB_NAME -but that is the name of the database, not the name of the instance, and is therefore irrelevant for the purposes of working out how instances get their names,
    3. Neither of the above answers has got anything to do with RAC knowing what instance runs on which machine. That is the job of the Oracle Cluster Registry file (OCR), for which you have to provide about 100MB of space on a shared hard drive during the RAC installation itself.
    You populate that file by running DBCA to create your RAC instances (and DBCA then automatically updates the OCR to record the fact that it created instance X1 on Node A and X2 on Node B, and therefore that's what will happen in the future unless you change things).
    Or you can update the OCR yourself by using the SRVCTL utility. You'd do something like: srvctl add instance -d DB1 -i X3 -n C (add an instance called X3 to run on Node C as part of database DB1).
    A little more details about the OCR is available in Section 13 of this article, for example: http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/26?page=0%2C5

  • How to access Data Guard option in Oracle 10g OEM

    Hi All,
    I have Oracle 10g ENTERPRISE EDITION on Unix envoirement. I want to setup logical standby Database through Data Guard technology. But when I brows through OEM I do not find Link for DATA GUARD????
    1) How to access Data Guard option from oracle 10g OEM.
    2) Does It come with Enterprise Edition OR I have to install it separately.
    Regards,
    Darshan

    I am managing almost everything through EM Grid Control. It is easy to setup and configure.
    Anyways, if you have read the documentation on
    Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration and setup your environment accordingly then you should not have any problems. Atleast I can assure you that your production database will not be affected by it.
    Just make sure that you follow each step and read thoroughly. If you have spare machines then you can test and record your configuration before performing it on your production db. This link will provide you with the information on DataGuard.
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/concepts.htm
    If you think that way then you will never be able to do any new stuff since you will always fear that something might go wrong. Go ahead pal, try it on test machines and you will know that it is not that difficult.
    There are real experts who help people like us in this forum and I know that they are doing a pretty good job.

  • How to change redo log size in oracle 10g

    Hi Experts,
    Can anybody confirm how to change redo log size in oracle 10g?
    Amit

    Dear Amit,
    You can enlarge the size of existing Online Redo log files, by adding new groups with different size of files (origlog$/mirrlog$) and then carefully droping the old groups with  their associated inactive files.
    Please refer SAP Note 309526 - Enlarging redo log files to perform the activity.
    Steps to perform:
    STEP-1. Analyze the exisiting situation and prepare an action plan.
    A. You have to ensure that no more than one log switch per minute occurs during peak times.
    It may also be necessary to increase the size of the online redo logs until they are large enough.
    Too many log switches lead to too many checkpoints, which in turn lead to a high writing load in the I/O subsystem.
    Use ST04 -> Additional Functions --> Display GV$-Views
    There you can select
    Gv$LOG_HISTORY --->for determing your existing LOG switching frequency.
    GV$LOG -
    > list the status(INACTIVE/CURRENT/ACTIVE) /size/sequence no. of existing online redolog files
    GV$LOGFILE  --- > list the information of existing online  redolog files with their storage paths
    You can document the existing situation of Online Redo Log Fiile management before going to enlarge Redo Log Files.
    It will be helpful, if something goes wrong while performing activities.
    B. Based on above Situation analysis, Plan your New Redo Log Group and there Members with new optimal size.
    e.g.
    Group No.         Redo Log File Locations  u201C/oracle/<SID>/u201D                  Size
                                 /origlogA                  /mirrlogA
    15                        log_g15m1.dbf         log_g15m2.dbf               100 MB
    17                        log_g17m1.dbf            log_g17m2.dbf               100 MB
                                /origlogB                    /mirrlogB
    16                       log_g16m1.dbf          log_g16m2.dbf            100 MB
    18                       log_g18m1.dbf            log_g18m2.dbf            100 MB
    Continue to next.....
