How do you autosize column widths in a multicolumn listbox?

I know that it's possible to autosize row height, but I can't find anything relating to autosizing column widths in a multicolumn listbox. This makes what I'm doing difficult, because I want to be able to have dynamic content and won't know beforehand how wide to make the columns. Therefore, I need to do it programatically or find something already built in.

I did an example along the lines of the suggestions above and it works pretty well. I'll attach it here. Note that this only works for 13pt font. If you want to scale this example to include larger font, then you can get that information from the cell height property, which does autoscale by default. The cell height is usually about 2 larger than the font size (i.e. 13pt font = 15 cell height, 24 pt font = 26 height).
This example is written in LV7.0. What would really be cool is if someone would write an XControl for LV8 that would do all this automatically and require no extra block diagram code! If only I had the time...

I am trying to build an application using LV Touch panel module 8.6 and I am having a problem with multicolumn listboxes. I am setting the the width of the columns by clicking and dragging the separator between the headers, but when I transfer and run my application to a winCE controller the width of the columns is the same for all columns (and very narrow actually).
Does anyone know something about it?
I also noticed the following two problems. When I transfer my application in the winCE controller, the line and column separators are disappeared and the column headers are also disappeared, although I have set them to be visible in my vi.

The issues that you are having are because the LV touch
panel Module does not support "Moveable column separators" and
"Row and column headers". The limitations of using a touch panel are available
in the LabVIEW help file.
A possible workaround may be to use a series of arrays with a string data
type then using a single scrollbar control multiple property nodes.
I have attached an example.

How to set displayed column width for a search help

I have created an elementary search help for a custom field with a value table behind it.
The search help functions correctly, but when displayed the column widths are all 10 characters. The user has to adjust the column to view the descriptive text.
Can anyone tell me how to set default column widths for the help?

In Outlook, you can either double click one column heading divider to adjust that column's width, or double click the furthest (to the right) column heading divider and all of the columns adjust their width for best viewing.
In Mail, I have to drag each of the column dividers to adjust the width.
If I resize the Mail window, I need to adjust them again.
I haven't been able to find an easy way to do this.
Does this feature exist in Mail?

no. you have to adjust the column widths individually by hand.

How to extract the column width in ALv report if its executed in background

I am executing an ALV report in background , in front end i am getting data properly, in back end for some columns some of the digits are missing.For example if PO no is of 10 digits it will display only 8 becos column size is like that , how to extract coulmns in back ground.

If not use Docking container instead of custom container, For ALV in back ground jobs, its suggest to use docking container instead of custom container , below you can find the declaration for docking container and code to use docking and custom container in your program for fore and back ground.

How to set dynamic column width for analysis item

Dear Experts,
I have a query view which is added in the web template as an analysis item. The web item properties on width is not working - I tried entering a value in the width but when I execute the template, the query view's width still stays the same.
Module com.sap.ip.bi.rig.ColumnWidth don't seem correct because I don't want the column width to be static. As my number of columns may change, I wanted the overall width of my query view to stay the same.
Appreciate any ideas which can solve this issue

Hi Huimin,
I don't think it is possible to fix the width of the Analysis webitem since it dynamically adjusts its width based on the text maxlength within its cells. Unless you use com.sap.ip.bi.rig.ColumnWidth where the cols are static, you cannot achieve this.
Even if you do override the css settings using a cell padding or something, the portal settings would override the same. How about using a Report webitem to insert tables/charts & check if the width can be adjusted here - just a thought.

How do you sum columns in same view

I have a search component (drag and drop the viewCriteria) with a table.
In the table is a column for an amount (number). I need to sum the amount and put it in the footer.
I have done this many times with master/detail. Lots of info on that on the web as well. Really simple.
In the view:
So I create a transient attribute (sumAmount).
I set the value to Expression and use one of the following (and several others that are not here).
On the screen:
drag SumAmount from the DC onto the footer. (OutputText no label)
OK so far!?
Run and query - (wishful thinking)
Change the query and new totals appear (not that far yet).
I have tried several permutations.
adf.object.sum("Amount")
sum("Amount")
adf.object.ViewVO.getrowset.sum("Amount")
All show absolutely nothing - I have the output text defined in the footer and the footer is displaying fine.
The table also has some dates in the criteria - when I generate the rowImpl - the search panel is rendered useless due to the Date Domain vs Sql Date ( I know how to manage this)
This has to be simple - just need to get a bit of help on it.
I have tried to do this similar to the master/detail (but in this case - no detail). Still no value.
I should be able to create a "formula" column without the use of java rowImpl.

Finally - I have all the pieces - they are (were) as follows.
1) create the View Object.
2) add the summary column (transient) (be sure to get the data type correct (Number or BigDecimal)).
3) create the view object implementation. (the Java tab in the view object - first box)
4) create the view row implementation and expose the accessors. (the Java tab in the view object - second box).
5) use Steve Muench's help to do the summation - it is a bit tricky and it has a depreciated call in it - but it works. (it is easy to modify to fit - just get the right attribute name for the sum & data type - I used Big Decimal)

6) add a footer to the table in the search page and drag and output text box into it (all one step with drag and drop) - leave it empty.
7) in the bindings page of the screen - add an attribute binding for the summary column from the Application Module.
8) once the binding is made, go back to the output text box and use the inspector to create an expression and bind the value to "adf bindings" - data - and select the view-backing definition from the binding you just created.
9) if you want to format this to right justified - surround with JSF HTML "panel grid - 1 column width=100% and style= text:align right - I usually do bold as well.
10) sit back, relax and run - it should work.

I am reading a set of DITA files into a specific FM template format, and there is one detail I cannot get to work properly. It should be possible to define column widths in a table, even if the DITA file does not include that information. But the Structure Application Developer Reference does not give the information on which string to pass to the column widths fm property. Does anyone out there have experience in doing this ?

Got it !!!
Turned out to be simple, but the info was more or less hidden in the Dev Ref Guide: I had already put the "fm property column widths is value " line in but did not know the syntax for the values. Turns out you need to delimit the values by spaces, not commas. The parser does not give ANY useful information about this, just mentions 'syntax error near somewhere' or completely ignores the values you specify.
This is how the rule for my DITA properties element now works out:
element "properties" {
is fm table element;
fm property columns value is "3";
fm property column widths value is "5cm 5cm 6cm";
It works. I earn 10 points for answering my own question. :-)

In the SMART Forms, you would have created a Table object and specified the line width and divided that into no. of columns that you want, you have to mandatorily specify the width of each column so that total of column width will be equal to that of the line width.
When you double click on the Table object, you can TABLE tab on the right side. If you can't see the line / columns details, click on the DETAILS button.

      If you are using standard template and which is not working for 2 data ranges.
      I think you can customize using VBA Macros. It is possible using Macros. I'm not sure is it BUG from SAP.
     Try to put VBA code in AFTER_REFRESH i guess.
      You can VBA Macro code mention below.
      for Column D: Columns("D:D").EntireColumn.AutoFit
      For all Columns: Cells.EntireColumn.AutoFit
      For Only Data Ranges: Determine columns from data range using VBA code and use VBA code given for Column .
