How make WAR file on Tomact

Dear Sir,
I am using weblogic Application server of BEA. But I am not known use the Apache Tomcat.I have been set the classpath=C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\common\lib\servlet-api.jar;.
and path=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\bin;C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\bin;.
Please write me how make the WAR file on tomact. How Its deploy.

Tomcat is an application server, as is BEA Weblogic, and, as such, does not create WAR files. Instead, you deploy pre-packaged WAR files on the server. For Tomcat, there are a few ways of doing this. You can use the web management console at http://myserver/manager/html if it is enabled on your server. You can also manually copy the WAR file into /path/to/tomcat/webapps, and Tomcat will automagically deploy it.
Building a WAR file is a little more involved. I strongly suggest using Ant, Maven, or even Eclipse to do it for you. That said, a WAR file is just a JAR file, so you can use the jar command to create it, assuming you have all the right files in all the right directories.
If you are still having trouble, please try being more specific about what you are trying to do and the error that you get.

  • Cannot make .war file using tomcat with eclipse and ant

i have made all necesary configuration for deploying application using eclipse and ant for the tomcat server.
when i start the server by clicking the tomcat icon on eclipse toolbar, the message is prompted that "missing application web.xml and using defaults". i have placed the web.xml file in the web/WEB-INF directory of the source project directory.
also when i use ant by right-clicking on the build.xml file and choose Run as ant.. the process creates a desired .war file in webapps folder of the tomcat server but that war file does not works.
where is the error i cannot figure out.
am attaching the code of build.xml for reference.

So is context.xml actually overwriting the settings found in server.xml?I think so. The way I understand it is the the context.xml file saves you from having to edit server.xml. It is preferred for each web app to do its own config, rather than lumping them all together in server.xml.
And what would be the best way to create the war file? IAt its heart, a WAR is just a zip file with its contents laid out in according to the specification of a web application directory structure.
So the simplest way to make a war file is to zip up your directory structure with a tool like winzip, and rename it to be myApp.war.
Regarding ant, I would recommend you take a look through [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/index.html
]this tutorial. It explains the basics of website layout, configuration and deployment.
On [url http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/appdev/source.html] this page  in particular, it includes a link to a basic ant file that you can use as a starting point.

  • Syncronization makes .war file 0KB

    Hi,
I have developed a smartsync appplication.I am facing 2 problems
    1.  When I deploy it on server and then i assign it to a device, i dont see the application on the assigned list. that is to say i am not able to assign it.
    2. assuming it as a server problem, I go ahead and synchronise it. Sync thorws an error
Download of application: ZDIV_HYD 1: Location Details
    • Installation failed:
    • Error when downloading application from: http://iscsapapp4w:51000/me/pub/meapps/jsp/1_ZDIV_HYD.war
and at the same time the size of .war file is becoming 0KB from 70KB. I am very surprised at this behaviour.
Perhaps it is deinstalling before installing...but how will i install when it becomes 0KB.
Please suggest why it is happening like that?
    Regards
    Divya

    hi divya,
generally your war archives are uploaded into the same middleware your MI web
console is running. however, depending on the configuration, this can be set to
point other server. e.g. mihost is your MI server with the MI web console, and your
application can be pointed to other server outside your network. thus your download
might fail if external access to that archive is nor properly achieved; like if you have
some problems with proxy and firewall...
btw, you don't necessary need any extraction software like winzip or winrar. you
may use the jar program of your JDK.
    hope this helps.

    Hi Nidhin,
You could start by reading the EJB docs at

  • How to make jar file for this compilation method ?

can any one tell me how to make jar file for this compilation
    D:\java\browser\IEInJava>javac -classpath jdic.jar;. IEInJava.java
    D:\java\browser\IEInJava>java -cp jdic.jar;. IEInJava
    *this is a compile code:-*
    D:\java\browser\IEInJava>javac -classpath jdic.jar;. IEInJava.java
*and this is a run code:-*
D:\java\browser\IEInJava>java -cp jdic.jar;. IEInJavanow how make JAR file ?

Assuming IEInJava only uses classes inside the jdic jar, this is one way. D:\java\browser\IEInJava> jar cf yourjar.jar IEInJava.classThen to run it you would use D:\java\browser\IEInJava> java -cp jdic.jar;yourjar.jar IEInJavaAnother way would use the jar manifest file to specify the Main-Class and Class-Path.

  • Deploying war file in weblogic SIP server 2.2

    Hi,
I trying to deploy a "sar" file in weblogic SIP server, but it is not allowing me to do that.So one of my collegue told me to change the "sar" to "war" and try to deploy.
When i am trying to deploy that it is saying that unable to find deployment descripter WEB-INF/web.xml in the war file.Actually it is there. But i don't know why it is giving that error.
Actually i need to deploy "sar" file and i changed that file into "war" file
What are all the trail and error to solve this problem
(1)I made the "war" file from file folders.
suppose my application directory name is "myapp"
then i am going into the "myapp" folder and from there i am trying to make war file and it is having all the related class files , sip.xml file , web.xml file.
Then i tryed to deploy that file from weblogic SIP server 2.2.console.
    (2) Next I included the weblogic.xml file also into the war file.
(3)The "sar" file working fine in SDS 3.1,but not in we blogic SIP server.
(4)The SDS3.1 is working with JRE 5 so i changed that JRE from 1.5 to jre 1.4. and again prepared the sar file and changed that SAR file to WAR file.
I created a domain in SIP server which was created in "user_projects."
For e.g., the domain name is "mydomain" and
    the directory structure is
    mydomain

    web.xml, sip.xml,log4j.properties are under WEB-INF folder
Do i need to change any path setting in startWebLogic.cmd file.I didn't change any thing in the startWeblogic.cmd.
Since my war file is having all the related files like all the related "jar" files in that.

  • Help.jsp web app war file (how to exclude resources)

Hi, I am making a jsp/JSF application and now wanted to deploy it on a glassfish server. this is the first time i am deploying so am still learning it as i go.
I wanted to clear out something before i go ahead.
My application has tons of resuorce files (mainly huge Picture and videos) which are roughly the size of 1-2 GB. I do not want to add them to my WAR file. is it possible to exclude the resources from the war file?
How difficult would it be for me to to then link the resources folder to the deployed application?
I am running against time. i need to clear the above out to make a decision.

  • How to call a java application in a jar which is in a war file of a ear ?

So sorry to cross post, but no response in other topics.....
    Please help!
I have a Ear file which contains a war file.
    xx.ear/META-INF
    xx.ear/YY.war
and the YY.war has the following structure:
    YY.war/META-INF
    YY.war/WEB-INF
    YY.war/WEB-INF/classes
    YY.war/WEB-INF/classes/com/
    YY.war/WEB-INF/classes/com/mycompany/
    YY.war/WEB-INF/classes/com/mycompany/MyClass.class
MyClass.class is a java application which has a main method.
how can I call this MyClass applicaiton from the xx.ear??
    java -???? com.mycompany.MyClass ??
Please help because I have a Unix cron job need to access this class externally outside AppServer. Thx!!

an ear file is a standard jar with a different extension. You may
be able to get away with just adding a manifest file to it that
specifies the main class (make it an executable jar with a different
    extension).
I don't know if this will handle the nested war file though. It may.

  • How to write from a servlet to it's war file?

We need to be able to write a file from a servlet into the document root
area to it can be accessed by a browser. Before we used war files, we
would simply figure out the real document root directory and write the
file somewhere under it. How would I do this when my application is
packaged as a war? I don't see a way to write to a "xxx.war" file and
if we run from an exploded war, how do I determine the location of the
document root at runtime from the servlet? I don't want to have to hard
code the path or make each installation specifiy it in a properties
file. It seems there should be a better way to handle this. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help. Not to beat this to death but say I want a response that
includes a bunch of HTML generated by a servlet or JSP and in the middle I want
a dynamically created image. So basically I want an <image> tag in the middle
of the html returned. Could I dynamically generate the image and add it to the
response in the middle of the servlet/JSP processing? I thought the only option
would be to return an html page the referred to an image via an <image> tag.
              What do you think?

  • How to create a .war file

    Hi Guyz,.............
how can i make a war file from a project directory
i had searched the forums but that did not help me.
    i used this command
    C:\My Project\source>jar cvf MyProj.war
'c' flag requires that input files be specified!
    Usage: jar {ctxu}[vfm0M] [jar-file] [manifest-file] [-C dir] files ...
    Options:
    -c create new archive
-t list table of contents for archive
-x extract named (or all) files from archive
    -u update existing archive
-v generate verbose output on standard output
    -f specify archive file name
-m include manifest information from specified manifest file
-0 store only; use no ZIP compression
-M do not create a manifest file for the entries
-i generate index information for the specified jar files
-C change to the specified directory and include the following file
If any file is a directory then it is processed recursively.
The manifest file name and the archive file name needs to be specified
in the same order the 'm' and 'f' flags are specified.
Example 1: to archive two class files into an archive called classes.jar:
    jar cvf classes.jar Foo.class Bar.class
Example 2: use an existing manifest file 'mymanifest' and archive all the
files in the foo/ directory into 'classes.jar':
    jar cvfm classes.jar mymanifest -C foo/ .
    please help me out guyz

You are nearly there already and the error message is telling you exactly what is missing from your command.
    Try
    jar cvf MyProj.war file1.class file2.class
    or maybe
    jar cvf MyProj.war classes/*.class
    or even
    jar cvf MyProj.war classes/
    etc
All the info is in the output you supplied!

  • How to deploye .war files in SOA_Server1 ?

    Hi,
I was created Auto Generated Task form for Human Task in 11G.After that how to deploye .WAR files manually in
"Infra -Soa(Soa_srerver1)" .Plz help me now

When you auto-generated the UI it would have defaulted to creating a web app project in your application. When you deploy the BPMN process, there are three steps in the wizard:
    1. Deploy Configuration
    2. Task flow deployment
    3. Select Server
In step 2 you can select some of all of the UI projects in the app and deploy them as part of deploying the composite. The build/deploy process will automatically create the war(s) and ear file. Once they're deployed, you can leave them un-selected to avoid redeploying them each time you just change the process definition. If you make changes to the UI, you can just select them again during deployment and select the option to overrwrite the EAR.

  • How do a client access the WAR file at loading a URL?

I would like to apprehend that how do a client access the WAR file at loading a URL?
Actually a web containter, for example, servlet container can have the software tool such as iPlanet[tm] Application server to deploying the servlet classes and JSP files by containing the WEB-INF directory.
how could the process of request and reponse be done by employing the WAR file..plz steer me....

clients don't access a war file. that's just a package for the container to deal with.
when the WAR is deployed, the container unpackages the contents and deploys the app. From that point forward clients use the deployed stuff. the unpackaged servlets handle requests from then on.
your question makes little sense to me.
