How many F20-136 backup disks i need for clean OS installation?

Hi,
I wish to clean off my laptop and start again due to a various amount of unwanted programs I've installed.
I've found a Product Recovery disk (one) does anyone know if there is supposed to be any others and if so what they are called?
Hopefully its just the one, I seem to remember another disk of somekind but cannot find it.
Thanks
Mike

If you want to clean off your notebook install OS using delivered recovery DVD. On this way your Qosmio will have factory settings again. Before you do this install Qosmioplayer at first using delivered Qosmioplayer recovery CD.

You will need a separate partition unless you plan to use the entire drive. You will need an amount of space somewhat larger than the total space now used on your startup drive. If you select the startup drive's Desktop icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Used space will be shown in the topmost panel. Add a GB or two to that number to determine how much space you'll need for the backup.
Do not backup on a drive that has any files you want to keep. You can make a bootable backup as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • How many macs can backup to a 3tb time capsule?

If I get a 3tb time capsule is there any limit (apart from the drive size) on how many macs can backup to it. At the moment no more than about 20gb of data per mac. Also has the reliability of the time capsule improved with the new version - I would like it to last longer than 18 months.
    Thanks
    Ben

Let's assume that you backup each Mac separately on the first backup since that will copy the entire contents of the Mac's drive over to the Time Capsule disk. That might average 2-3 hours per Mac.
Once you have the "master" backup of each Mac completed, you can set each of them up for incremental Time Machine backups. On average, the hourly incremental backups only take  a few minutes to complete. To be conservative, call it 5 minutes.
So if it takes each Mac about 5 minutes for an average incremental backup, the realistic limit of Macs backing up to a single Time Capsule would be in the 10-12 range.  I've had 5 Macs backing up for 3 years with no issues whatsoever.
It would be a good idea to purchase AppleCare for one of your newer Macs if possible. That way, your Time Capsule is covered up to 3 years.
Keep in mind that we tend to only hear about issues on the forums. In that respect, this place is like a hospital...just about everyone here has a problem. No one ever seems to post to report that everything is OK.
You don't hear about the millions of devices that are working just fine, so it's tough to make a judgement on a product based on what you see and read here.

  • How Big a Backup Drive is Needed for a 500 GB Internal drive?

I just bought a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid 2012) with a stock 500 GB internal hard drive. I want to buy a USB 3.0 external drive for a Time Machine backup drive.
Bearing in mind that I don't keep photos or any significant quantities of big visual media (movies, etc.) on my Macs, it will take several years to even fill my internal drive halfway.
How large an external drive do I need for a backup? One vendor has suggested 1 TB, but I wanted to check with the community before purchasing.

How Big of a partition do I need for Windows XP? And to be able to run visual Basics program?

Nobody can answer that question with any certainty because we don't know your computing needs and what specific apps you're going to isntall.
Regardless, this forum is for the troubleshooting the installation of OS X, not Boot Camp, and you'll probably want to post your question over in the Boot Camp forums:

The disk is from Seagate, a GoFlex Home unit that was used originally by someone else with a PC.

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

Yosemite mail v8.0 not showing how many messages are in a mailbox. For example inbox. Before upgrading it used to show how many messages you had in your inbox. anyone know how to switch "on" the number of messages? Or has this feature been removed?

Agreed! This feature was very useful. If you find out how to turn it on, please let me know.
Apple, there is plenty of room in the window header all the way across on both sides of the word "Inbox". It's important to know many messages are in the Inbox. It provides a progress meter when you're cleaning out mail and striving for inbox zero.

  • How many times do you have to pay for Creative Cloud complete plan prepaid if it says an amount of money per year? do you have to pay that every year?

how many times do you have to pay for a Creative Cloud complete plan prepaid if it says an amount of money per year? do you have to pay that every year?

Perhaps the unclear part here is that the Cloud is a subscription offering. You never pay for it outright and never actually own it.
12 months pre-paid simply means paying the full 12 months subscription upfront. The following year, you do the same. And the same every year after that.
Like any subscription, if you want to keep using the software, you keep paying the monthly (or annual) fee every month (or year), year in, year out.
When you cancel your subscription, or it expires and you don't renew, then the software stops working.

  • How many vCPU Sockets Do We Really Need

For example, Windows 2008 standard is limited to 4 physical CPUs, and it will not utilize any additional vCPUs...
Says Frank Denneman in his Blog:  vCPU configuration. Performance impact between virtual sockets and virtual cores? - frankdenneman.nl
How many Physical CPUs ( Virtual Sockets ) does RHEL 5,6.X utilizes.

Note, Windows Server 2008 Standard is limited to 4 (four) physical cpu (or sockets) BUT it supports 32 logical processors (in 32bit version) or 64 logical processors (in 64bits version)... then when cofiguring a Windows Server 2008 Standard, if you need more than 4 (four) logical processors, rememmber to increase the "number of  core per sockets" in virtual machine configuration.

  • How to solve: The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data/IP's Mac mini.sparsebundle" could not be accessed (error -1).

    Hi,
    Please help!
I set up my time capsule yesterday, and it worked perfectly initially.  However, after I used the same time capsule HDD as network file sharing with my MacBook Pro and two other PCs, than the hourly backup failed and gave the following error message.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/IP’s Mac mini.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error -1).
Please help telling me what to do to restore the backup function.
    ipmt

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
    Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.
