How shall I use an other class's methods in a class

Hi all,
I have two classes in the same directory. When I try to use a method of class in the other one, I get a compile error. Everything seems ok, bu could not understand the reason. The two classes and the error text are copied below. Any help will be appriciated.
import java.io.*;
import java.net.*;
import java.sql.*;
public class MainThread extends Thread{
//creating an object from CountryEnterence class
     private CountryEnterence cnt;
public void MainThread(){
start();
public void run() {
//calling a function of CountryEnternce class
cnt.countryEnter(countryName,countryCode);
/***And part of the CountryEnterence class is as belows:*/
public class CountryEnterence{
public countryEnter(String countryName,String countryCode){
The error message when I try to compile MainThread is as follows:
MainThread.java:17: cannot resolve symbol
symbol :class CountryEnterence
location :class MainThread
private CountryEnterence conEnt;
Regards,
Dirgen

hi Chuck, thanks for your reply.
Infact the actual code defines the countryEnter() method with an integer return type.
Here my real problem is as belows:
C:/myDirectory/Class01.java
C:/myDirectory/Class02.java
public class Class01{
private Class02 obj=new Class02();
public void aMethod(){
obj.aMethodOfClass02();
When I try to compile Class01, I always get the error like "java can not resolve the symbol Class02"
Do you think I am mistaking?

    Hi,all !
    How to find the arguments of a static method from the
    class file? for example, when we meet a bytecode
    "invokestatic", how can I know the arguments of this
    static method?You mean
    1. The values?
    2. Argument names?
    3. Argument signatures.
    I would suppose for the last that the easiest way would be to parse the signature string.
    The first is not possible - not from the class file.
    The second is only in the debug information stored in the optional part of the class file. And figuring out the format for that is going to be a problem.

  • HT204053 I have two Apple ID's and one I have used to purchase all my apps but now I want to use my other one. But I can not purchase my old apps with my other one. How can I use my other one to purchase apps?

    I can't remember why but I made two Apple ID's, one with a Gmail address and another with a Yahoo address. I have always used my Yahoo address Apple ID to purchase my apps but I have recently deactivated my Yahoo address. So now I want to start using my Gmail address Apple ID but I can't purchase any apps or even my old apps on my iPhone. How can I use and re-install apps through my Gmail address Apple ID on my iPhone? And is there a way to deactivate my Yahoo address Apple ID that I do not want to use anymore?

    Apple does not transfer content bought with one Apple ID to another Apple ID. Apple will not merge two Apple IDs.
    If most of your content was bought with the Yahoo! Apple ID but you now want the Gmail address for your Apple ID, the trick will be to change the address used for the Yahoo ID with the Gmail address. However, to do that you must first free the Gmail address from that other Apple ID. Use the instructions from Apple to substitute another address that is not used as an Apple ID for your Gmail address in the Apple ID with the Gmail address. Then, when the Gmail address is no longer used in an Apple ID, you can use the same instructions to substitute the Gmail address for the Yahoo address in the Apple ID with the Yahoo address.

  • How can I use my array in another method.... Or better yet, what's wrong?

    I guess I'll show you what I am trying to do rather and then explain it
    public class arraycalc
    int[] dog;
    public void arraycalc()
    dog = new int[2];
    public void setSize(int size)
    dog[1] = size;
    public int getSize()
    return dog[1];
    This gives me a null pointer exception...
    How can I use my array from other methods?

    You have to make the array static. :)
    Although I must admit, this is rather bad usage. What you want to do is use an object constructor to make this class an object type, and then create the array in your main class using this type, and then call the methods from this class to modify your array. Creating the array inside the other method leads to a whole bunch of other stuff that's ... well, bad. :)
    Another thing: Because you're creating your array inside this class and you want to call your array from another class, you need to make the array static; to make it static, you must make your methods static. And according to my most ingenious computer science teacher, STATIC METHODS SUCK. :D
    So, if you want to stick with your layout, it would look like:
    public class arraycalc
         static int[] dog;
         public static void arraycalc()
              dog = new int[2];
         public static void setSize(int size)
              dog[1] = size;
         public static int getSize()
              return dog[1];
    }But I must warn you, that is absolutely horrible code, and you shouldn't use it. In fact, I don't even know why I posted it.
    You should definitely read up on OOP, as this problem would be better solved by creating a new object type.

  • Can we use SAMT to syntax check methods in global classes ?

    Transaction SAMT can be used to perform syntax checks on programs but I can't see how to use it to check methods in global  classes. Can anyone tell me how to do this ?
    thanks,
    Malcolm.

    I've figured out a way to do this.
    You need to put the class name followed by '=====CP' into the program name......with enough ='s to make the name up to 32 characters. Bit fiddly but it can be done.

  • How do I go about adding my own method to the class Calendar?

    I want to add a method to the class Calendar that will parse a string and set it's date and time with what it parsed from the string. I allready have the parsing code written but I want to know how I can add this to the Calendar class.
    I thought I could extend the Calendar class with something like this...
    public abstract class myCalendar extends Calendar{
        public myCalendar() {
        public int parseDaytime(String givenLine){
            int flag = 1; //used to report errors
         //do some parsing
            return flag;
    }But then in my main program I cannot use any of the Calendar methods...
                myCalendar timeFromServer;
             timeFromServer = timeFromServer.getInstance(); //error, it won't let me use the Calendar methods
                if(timeFromServer.parseDaytime(readFromServer) == 0){
                    System.out.println("Error parsing time data from server.");
                }

    Aside from my original question, I do not understand why extending Java classes is over kill. You listed the example of extending Thread as a big one. Everytime I create a worker Thread the class I create extends Threads because thats what I learned from every example I have looked at.
    Okay. I should be good at writing this by now, so here goes....
    You only get to inherit from a superclass once. You can implement as many interfaces as desired. As such, whenever you inherit from a class, you are limiting any other possible inheritance from another superclass. So, all things being equal, you should prefer interfaces to inheritance.
    This is why java.lang.Runnable exists. There is almost never a reason to extend Thread. The normal 'is a' test is somewhat misleading in this case when determining whether to extend Thread or not. You may say, "My class is threaded, so I should extend Thread." However, while there exists an 'is a' relationship here, it is not salient. Your class undoubtedly is something else as well. The fact that it is threaded should be thought of as an aspect of feature of your class.
    So, in general, you should implement Runnable and not extend Thread.
    public class Foo implements Runnable {
       final public void run() {
           // cool asynchronous code goes here
    public class FooUser {
       private void someMethod() {
           Thread thread = new Thread(new Foo());
           thread.start();
    }- Saish

  • How can I use the commandLink's setAction method?

    I have some jsf code like this:
    <af:commandLink text="#{row.name}" action="detail">
    and I want to change the commandLink's action dynamic,so I write such code:
    CoreCommandLink ccl=new CoreCommandLink();
    but I can't write
    ccl.setAction("detail");
    directly
    this method is like this
    public final void setAction(MethodBinding action)
    Can you give me some example how to use this method?
    Thank you very much!

    User,
    If you want the action to be dynamic, create a method in your backing bean that returns the proper navigation case string and bind the action to that. For example, if you have a backing bean called "myBean," write a method in the backing bean like this:
    public String myAction()
      if (something) return "action1";
      if (somethingelse) return "action2";
      // etc
    }and your commandLink looks like:
    <af:commandLink text="#{row.name}" action="#{myBean.myAction}"/>This is a much better way to do what you are trying. The error you are getting, by the way, is you are passing a string paramter to setAction, which expects a MethodBinding as a parameter; however, just use the way described above - much easier.

    I've created a bunch of custom realms and for a specific user logon (form based "uname" and "pword"), the system knows exactly which custom realm to look up against. However, in using ServletAuthentication class, one can only specify realm name in strong(req, res, realmName), not the weak() method. Any clue?

    Hi John,
    Did you find the answer to this question? I'm having a similar problem when calling the ServletAuthentication.assertIdentity() method.

  • How can i use return statement in a method no flaming pls

    public class example2
    public int add(int i,int j)
    int k = i + j;
    return k; <<<< -HERE->
    public static void main(String[] args)
    example2 obj=new example2();
    obj.add(2,3);
    System.out.println("k"+k);
    Iam really really new to java programming so dont flame me
    In the above program i was hoping by putting return k it would return vlaue of k to the calling object but it didnt work i had to place sys.out.println in the method and take out the return from the method for it to work
    So why dosent it work and where is it returned to the k value.

The VALUE of k is returned, not the NAME k, so you cannot refer to the value by just k. To the caller, the value is obtained by evaluating the expression that calls the function. So you could do
    public class example2
         public int add(int i, int j)
              return i + j;
         public static void main(String[] args)
              example2 obj = new example2();
              System.out.println(obj.add(2, 3));
    }

  • How do i use additional hard drives for application installation

    I have close to a terabyte of drives on my new mac pro and would love to use one of the other hard drives to install applications on- especially my windows applications- like solidworks. However every time i try to install something to my mac it wont give me a choice of where to put it. Same is true under parallels- so I keep on filling up my mac HD and the other 3/4 of a terabyte is unused!!!
    I called apple care and they said that Apple doesnt recommend using other disks- where did they find him?
    How do i use the other disks to install programs?

    Richard:
    Without repeating what eww has already expressed, it seems, in the first place, you need to give yourself adjust yourself to how Mac OS works, since by your own admission, you are new to Macs. When I use a PC, as I have to from time to time, I always wish that it worked as my Mac does. Of course, I just have to figure how to work with what I see as its limitations to get the job done. The learning curve gets less steep as we move along in the process.
    Your work pattern and needs seem to be quite different from most mac users I know. This is neither good or bad, but it does mean that your needs are specialized. You seem to work with especially large files, for example. So your installed volume becomes crowded more quickly that most of the rest of us. However, eww's suggestion that you put some or all of your data on another HDD works for others in the same way, although in different situations. For example, some people with older macs can only install OS X on a partition of less than 8 GB, as they work with a limitation where they have to install OS X on the first 8 GB of the HDD. Thus they have to have most of their data on a separate partition.
    You noted, +I have looked through mac HD and havent found " data" i can move any where yet+. May I suggest that you move your entire Documents folder to another drive, since that is where all your data would normally be stored. Another option would be to get a larger HDD. I don't know how large your present HDD is, but you can max out the size of your internal HDD. Or you can keep your working documents on your internal HDD and move the rest for storage on an external HDD. You know best what will work for you. What I am trying to say is that you have options, and I feel sure that you will get it figured out.
    Cheers.
