How to apply archive in Standby Database?

Hello,
My Database are running in linux plateform. I am seeing that archives which are generating are not copying to standby server & not applying.
Can anybody suggest me how to copy archive from primary database(ASM file system) to standby Database & apply those archives?
Thanks

Hi,
I am having similar problem. The primary logs are shipping on to standby but are not getting applied.
Here are the outputs:
From primary
SQL > select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where archived='YES' group by thread#;
THREAD# MAX(SEQUENCE#)
1 27908
2 28476
3 31643
select max(sequence#) from gv$archived_log;
MAX(SEQUENCE#)
31643
From Standby
SQL > select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied ='YES' group by thread#;
THREAD# MAX(SEQUENCE#)
1 26862
2 27580
3 30874
select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
MAX(SEQUENCE#)
31643
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

  • How to make a physical standby database in the read_only state in 11g?

    In 10g, we can make a physical standby database in the read_only state. But in 11g, no a read_only state for a physical standby database. How to make a physical standby database in the read_only state in 11g?

    Hi
    read-only mode (for 11g physical standby)
    A mode in which a database can be opened that allows queries, but disallows modifications.
    A physical standby database can be opened read-only so that queries may be performed. If a license for the Oracle Active Data Guard option has been purchased, a physical satndby database can be open while redo apply is active. This capability is known as Real-time Query.

  • How to sync primary and standby database in 11GR2 on linux

    Hi ,
    How to sync primary and standby database in 11GR2 on linux . Both my primay and standby are 3 node cluster each.
    Can you please suggest a good link and brief steps .
    Thanks

    Are you trying to setup a new standby or sync an existing standby database?
    OK I see it
    "standby is behind the primary"
    So you have a gap.
    I would check both alert logs for a cause. You might find something like this
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.Look for ORA-00308 and ORA-27037 and ORA-16055.
    There's no sense fixing the gap unless the cause is fixed too.
    Also check out this post from a few days ago its dealing with similar issues.

  • How to add datafile to standby database

    Hi,
    We have standby database on another site and we are using manual recovery. How to add datafile to standby database after datafile is added to primary database.
    We are on Oracle 9i R2.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    When you recover the standby database after you added a datafile to the production, you will get an error that the file that needs recovery does not exist.
    At this point you can connect to the standby and issue:
    alter database create datafile '<original_name>' as '<new_name>';the new name is optional if the location of the files are the same.
    After that, you can continue recovering the standby database.

    SQL> recover standby database;

  • Slow SQL Apply on Logical Standby Database in Oracle10g

    Hi,
    We are using Oracle 10g Logical Standby database in our production farm but whenever there is bulk data load (5-6 GB data) on the primary database, the logical standby seems to be hung. It takes days to apply the 5-6 GB data on the logical standby.
    Can anybody give me some pointers how can I make my SQL Apply fast on the logical standby for bulk data.
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hi there,
    I've a similar problem. I did an insert of 700k on a table. It takes me over 1 1/2 hours to see the data. Notice, I increased the "max_sga" to 300m and "max_servers" to 25" and didn't help the performance at all.
    My version is 10.2.0.3 with the patch 6081550.

  • Deleting applied archives from standby

    Hello Guys,
    We have oracle 10g rel 2 on hp-ux
    I feel this common question for dataguard implementation
    Just want to check best way of deleting archives automatically from standby database,i have 2 methods in mind
    as below
    1)At os level shell script-finding last seqno from alert log at standby/or query v$views(select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log) ,passing it to script
    using rman as :*delete archivelog until sequence seqno;*
    or deleting at os level upto this seqno
    (Making script is not issue with this functionality and scheduling it in cron)
    2)by RMAN at standby
    set alter system set "_log_deletion_policy"='ALL' scope=spfile;
    set CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY;
    however i have no plans to take backup at standby,still can i use above command
    is it reliable i faced some issues in past inspite of this configurations archives were not deleted at standby
    Please give your views is there any other method to delete archives automatically ,and which one is more preferred
    and reliable method/best method
    Thanks

    logdeletion_policy parameter is static, so which you cant change dynamically, PRimary should bounce, If it is fine then you can go ahead.
    If you do not have time, then prepare an RMAN script to delete the archives.

  • Apply archive logs to database

    I have a production database that is online. I'm planning to setup a pc with the same configurations as that of the db server and use that server as the reporting generation. The clone pc's database will be one day delay compared to the production database. I'm planning to use export/import but someone suggested to use the archive log files of the production database and apply it to the clone pc, is this doable?
    I have a full export backup and all the archive log of the production database, is this enough to restore the clone pc to the state( one day back) of the production database?
    Need your suggestions. Thanks

    You can do this while configuring physical standby database.
    go through the link below to know more about physical standby

  • Real-time apply cascaded logical standby database

    Hi
    I have a primary database orcl
    Pysical standby database orcl_std
    Cascaded logical standby database orcl_tri which receives archivelogs from orcl_std
    Real time apply is enabled both in orcl_std (physical standby) and orcl_tri (logical standby)
    When I create a table in primary orcl, I am unable to see it on orcl_tri (Although real time apply is enabled)
    However, when I switch log in primary, I can see the new table on orcl_tri.
    My question is, why realtime apply is not working in my scenerio ?

    orcl_tri: ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE;

    Hi mseberg,
    Thanks for your reply.
    There is no load or network issue as I`ve just created these databases for the experiement.
    I have the same output from standby and primary databases.

  • Next log sequence to archive in Standby Database (RAC Dataguard Issue)

    Hi All,
    I just had implemented Data Guard in our server. My primary Database is RAC configured, but it is only single node. The other Instance was removed and converted it to Developement Instance. For the reason I kept the primary as RAC is when I will implement dataguard, my Primary Database is RAC with 7 nodes.
    The first test is successful, and I was able to "switchover" from my primary to standby. I failed in the 'FAILOVER" test.
    I restore my primary server and redo the setup.
    BTW, my standby DB is physical standby.
    When I try to switchover again and issue archive log list, below is my output.
    SQL> archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
    Oldest online log sequence 38
    *Next log sequence to archive 0*
    Current log sequence 38
    SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
    MOUNTED PHYSICAL STANDBY
    ===============================================
    SQL> archive log list;
    Database log mode Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Enabled
    Archive destination USE_DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST
    Oldest online log sequence 38
    *Next log sequence to archive 38*
    Current log sequence 38
    SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
    OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
    READ WRITE PRIMARY
    In my first attempt to switchover before I failed in "FAILOVER" test, I also issue +archive log list+ in both primary and standby database, and if I remember it right, next log sequence on both should be identical. Am I right on this?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jay A

    Or Am i just overthinking on this?
    Is dataguard only looking for the current and oldest log sequence?
