How to avoid resolving character references

Hi,
Let's say an xml content contains > -- character reference for (>). After being parsed by DOMParser and processed by XSLProcessor along with a stylesheet, in the end, this character reference is completely resolved to ">". How would I be able to stop this transformation from resolving character reference or only let it resolve to a unicode such as >.
Prompt help is highly appreciated!
Frank.

You cannot prevent character entity resolution to the best of my knowledge.
What the use case for wanting to do this?

• How to pass character references in JDOM?

Friends,
I am trying to pass a binary file over XML(over HTTP POST), as an element, like
<file>
<data>here goes the binary file</data>
</file>
This is only part of the XML, and I am trying to use JDOM to build the XML tree.
I am using Element.addContent(String binarycontent) method to set the text for the <data> element. The file has invalid XML characters(like characters less than 0x20), so I am escaping them using character references like

etc
The real problem is JDOM interprets the & character and this gets passed as

which is useless on the server side.
Is there any way to signal JDOM not to interpret the text I use in element.addContent(text) and escape them? Or is there any way to insert a character reference?
Thanks,
Ram

XML files can only contain text. This is a law of XML. Instead of trying to hack around it like you did, you should encode your binary data into text before you put it into the XML. Then, of course, to get the binary file back out you would need to decode it. One fairly common and well-documented way to encode binary data into text is the Base64 encoding, which is described here:

• PDF/A Conversion Err :CIDset in subset font is incomplete & Character references .notdef glyphs

I was trying to convert some PDF documents to PDF/A-3b. Using Acrobat XI Pro on a Windows Vista PC, the conversion proceeded fine, but I noticed the size of the converted file increased from 1.91 Mb to 16.8 Mb (See spage usage audits below). I expected some increase in size due to the font embedding and such, but did not expect such a big jump. On Auditing the space usage, I noticed that the converted file had no embedded fonts, but the vast majority of space was being consumed by images. Turns out the "Convert to PDF/A-3b" profile in Preflight settings were set to convert all pages to images, if the regular conversion failed. I edited the profile to not do so, but fail on an error. This time when I passed the document through a "Convert to PDF/A-3b" pre-flight, it failed with the following errors.
CIDset in subset font is incomplete (font contains glyphs that are not listed). It appears to be referring to the Arial and TimesNewRoman fonts.
Character references .notdef glyph
How do I fix these errors? For the CIDset error, I noticed some folks in the InDesign forums mentioning you can locate the missing glyphs and then replace the fonts with other fonts in which these glyphs are present. I am wondering if this is the issue here and something similar can be done in Acrobat. As for the .notdef glyphs, I couldn't find anything. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
Note:
If I edit the conversion preflight profile to allow replacing the pages with images on regular conversion errors, the conversion goes through fine, but as shown below, there is a huge jump in size, which I would like to avoid. I have about 2GB worth of documents, and the conversion ends up using over 8 GB of space.

What software are you using to do OCR?
Is there a way you can adjust what font is being used by the OCR software or use a different software for OCR? This is not a standard OpenType font or one the can be mapped to Unicode.
I'm not sure exactly how OCR software places fonts in PDFs. Does it show up in the PDF Properties under Fonts? If so, what is the name of the Font.
When you examine the Tagged text in the Tags Panel, if you open up a tag and look at the content does it make sense or is it nonsense (gobbledygook)?
While OCR text is not visible to the end user directly, it can be selected using the text tool and it is recognized by Acrobat for tagging purposes. The Assistive Technology, e.g., screen reader. will be reading from this text. So if it is not understandable you do not have an accessible file.
You would probably obtain better results using the Acrobat OCR feature, preferably on a Windows machine. It's been a while since I've exchanged files between Mac and Windows, and I wouldn't trust that the encodings would be the same without testing it.

• How to avoid the message in the dashboard report

Hi,
I am developing Dashboard reports(graphs) using WAD. Query and WAD are working fine. I need to put a variable for Calendar Month or Year in the graph .I am populating the Variable with default value initially and I am getting the correct result . But if I change the Variable value second time, I am getting a message (type I(information) ) in the same screen which says that 'You cannot change variable ZCALYEAR_WT01 for charact. 0CALYEAR during query navigation' . And below is the detailed information about the error message.
The Can be changed in query navigation property has been set for variable ZCALYEAR_WT01, characteristic 0CALYEAR. However, the variable is used in the query in such a way, that the system is unable to apply this change-option.
This can, for example, occur under the following conditions:
Characteristic 0CALYEAR is filtered by additional restrictions (the restrictions must be joined using an OR-connection)
A second characteristic, which is restricted by a variable, is compounded to charcteristic 0CALYEAR.
Variable ZCALYEAR_WT01 is a hierarchy node variable, but the hierarchy has not been determined uniquely.
A variable can be changed during query navigation only if it is used exclusively in a drilldown-characteristic, and there are no further restrictions to the characteristic other than this variable. There must be no additional characteristics with variables compounded to the characteristic you are working with. For variables for hierarchy nodes, the hierarchy must be determined uniquely and agree with the set display hierarchy.
Also, if the characteristic value is moved, for example (ZCALYEAR_WT01 - 1), the variable is no longer able to be changed when navigating queries.
System Response
The entry ZCALYEAR_WT01 Can be changed during query navigation is not applied.
Procedure
I checked the query definition and it is not having any offset or any other restrictions for Calendar Year
It is used for finding the total quantity by country for the year .Hence Quantity keyfigure is added in the Keyfigures and Country is in the Rows and Calendar Year is restricted with Variable in the global filter .There are no other fields and no other restrictions .
I am still trying to figure out why the warning apprears in the DashBoard. Since this Dashboard report will be used by the Power users and this warning message will be annoying to them .Hence I need to find how to avoid this message.
Kindly do let me if anyone has faced this and solved earlier.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks & Regards,
Raja

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your suggestion and it worked for me I added the 'System message' web item and set the visibility to 'Hidden' .Now I am not getting any message. Thank you for both.
Thanks & Regards,

How can I resolve error code -54 in iTunes? I am using the latest iTunes. No new updates are available. I'm using iTunes 11.3 on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.8. I can't save my library in iTunes, the message just keeps popping up.

From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Although there is no formal list of OSX error code some of the old codes still apply to OSX .)
First, try simply restarting your computer.
Try quitting iTunes, then deleting the .xml (not .itl !) version of the library file in the iTunes folder (iTunes will generate a new one).

• LD_ASSUME_KERNEL does not work in recent distros. How to avoid?

LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.XX does not work in all recent distros.

$ ls
ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object
EBS contains very old cmponents like MWA wich not compiled without this setting. How to avoid errors?

You can unset LD_ASSUME_KERNEL and EBS 11i (11.5.9 and 11.5.10) will work fine on 2.6.16 kernels (SLES-10 and RH 5.0).
The following instructions should get you going:
1) Setup the environment as you would for running Applications on RH 4 or SLES9
I.E. follow Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2)
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=316806.1
2) Remove any LD_ASSUME_KERNEL references in O/S /etc/profile.d files
3) Comment out LD_ASSUME_KERNEL entries in $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh
if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "Suse" ]; then

If doing a rapid install, the database startup will fail and rapidwiz will prompt to ignore or retry. At this point, edit $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above and click on retry. It will then run to the autoconfig step at the end and error out. Just hit cancel, edit $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and run autoconfig.
On Suse, one needs compat-gdbm for libgdbm.so.2

libdb.so.3 gets installed when compat-db rpm is installed.
- The O/S installation CD would contain compat-db
e.g compat-db-4.1.25-6.i386.rpm ( may change as per your version ).
- Manually install the compat-db rpm
e..g "rpm -ivh compat-db-4.1.25-6.i386.rpm"
OR
Note:345172.1
A library is missing: libdb.so.2 is from gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-34.1.i386.
This error also occurs in SLES9, same cause, slightly different resolution. SLES9 comes with libdb.so.3 and libdb.so.4 but not libdb.so.2 - need to install db1-1.85-85.1 to get libdb.so.2.
4) In order to relink cplex library executables (MSC, MSO, MSR, MST, WIP, etc), edit $AD_TOP/bin/adrelinknew.sh and add the following LD option (-Wl,--noinhibit-exec) in the LINUX section:

LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'

CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so'
elif test -f "/etc/SuSE-release"; then
CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9'
else
CPP_LIBS=''

CPP='g++'
CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
set CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
to CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -Wl,--noinhibit-exec'
After this chance, you can apply any MRP, ASCP patch and all executables will relink correctly. You can also use adadmin to relink all executables and it completes without error.

• How to define special character in html text file used in loadvars

Hi

the division sign is missing or a just a box. I've already
tried most options: ÷ (which works in XML loaded to
flash), ÷ %F7
Can anyone help please?

Hi Michael. Thank you for your reply.
There is no declaration within sgm file itself - but while opening the file I use sgml application definition with the following settings:
Default API client: FmTranslator
SGML character encoding: ISO Latin1
XML character encoding: UTF-8
Namespace: Enable
CSS2 Preferences:
Generate CSS2: Disable
Add Fm CSS Attribute To XML: Disable
Retain Stylesheet Information: Disable
Entity locations
Entity search paths
C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker9\Structure\sgml\isoents
So as you can see, character encoding is set to ISO Latin1 (there is no way to use UTF-8 encoding in sgml files)
Typing ź or ć in sgm document and opening it with framemaker sgml application - I receive: ¿æ and message: "Non-SGML character found; should have been character reference"
Everything works fine when I type f.ex.: &x016B; and insert appropriate reference lines into isolat1.rw and isolat1.ent files
But what I would like to avoid is editing those isoent files each time new character is be needed.

</MANUAL>
Is there any way to insert special character directly in sgm file, so that it won't have to be interpreted by isoents mapping rules?
isoent.rwr interpretes oacute as:
entity "oacute" is fm char 0x00F3;
But I would like to use 0x00F3 directly in fm file, so that if any additional character is needed - I won't have to update isoent files
I've tested already:

How to avoid performance problems in PL/SQL?
As per my knowledge, below some points to avoid performance proble in PL/SQL.

1. Use FORALL instead of FOR, and use BULK COLLECT to avoid looping many times.
2. EXECUTE IMMEDIATE is faster than DBMS_SQL
3. Use NOCOPY for OUT and IN OUT if the original value need not be retained. Overhead of keeping a copy of OUT is avoided.

-> See to queries they use Indexes properly , sometimes Leading index column is missed out that cause performance overheadAssuming "properly" implies that it is entirely possible that a table scan is more efficient than using an index.
5. use Oracle HINTS if query can't be further tuned and hints can considerably help youHints should be used only as a last resort. It is almost certainly the case that if you can use a hint that forces a particular plan to improve performance that there is some problem in the underlying statistics that should be fixed in order to resolve issues with many queries rather than just the one you're looking at.

• How to search special character in searchable PDF Document???

Hi All,
Could some one help me out, how to search special character in PDF document? I have attached the screen shot for your reference.
-Rgds,
Gnanasekaran

OK, I found it myself:
1. Tools - Pages - Edit Page Design - Header & Footer - Add Header & Footer.
2. Select the font and size, etc, place the cursor on the appropriate site to insert the page number, click the "Insert Page Number" button, and click OK.
That is!

• How to avoid Time out issues in Datapump?

Hi All,
Iam loading one of our schema from stage to test server using datapump expdp and impdp.Its size is around 332GB.
My Oracle server instance is on unix server rwlq52l1 and iam connecting to oracle from my client instance(rwxq04l1).
iam running the expdp and impdp command from Oracle client using the below commands.
expdp pa_venky/********@qdssih30 schemas=EVPO directory=PA_IMPORT_DUMP dumpfile=EVPO_Test.dmp CONTENT=all include=table
impdp pa_venky/********@qdsrih30 schemas=EVPO directory=PA_IMPORT_DUMP dumpfile=EVPO_Test.dmp CONTENT=all include=table table_exists_action=replace
Here export is completed and import is struck at below index building.After some time iam seeing below time out in log files
Processing object type SCHEMA_EXPORT/TABLE/INDEX/INDEX.

How to see oracle client system port number?
Please suggest me how to avoid this time out issues.Seems this time out is between oracle server and client.
Thanks,
Venkat Vadlamudi.

Don't run from the client ... run from the server
or
if running from a client use the built-in DBMS_DATAPUMP package's API.
