How to burn a dvd with both Mac and Windows files

I have a DVD that has both Mac and Windows formatted files. When the DVD is mounted only Mac formatted files show. I want to burn a DVD copy containing both formatted files. How do I do that? Thanks in advance.

Correction! It is a CD and there are two partitions with Mac and Windows files.

  • External hard drive use with both Mac and Windows

I know that you can't use an iPod (through iTunes) with both Mac and Windows, but can you still use it as an external hard drive with both operating systems?

Yes, if the iPod is in Windows format. Mac OS X can read and write Windows formatted iPods, but Windows can't access Mac formatted disks unless special software is installed.

  • Can I mount my external hard drive which will be compatible with both Mac and Windows?

    Hello,
Can I mount my external hard drive which will be compatible with both Mac and Windows? If yes, then please let me know, because I intend to use my hard drive for both Windows and Mac, without losing any file.

Yes. By default, Mac OS X and Windows can read and write drives which are formatted as FAT32 or exFAT; NTFS drives aren't writable from Mac OS X without additional software.

  • IPod with both Mac and Windows?

I have a Mac at work and a PC at home. I have my iPod nano set-up with my work computer but I would also like to use it on my home computer. I downloaded the Windows iPod updater, however, it won't let me update....only restore. If I restore, and it loses all my data, can I then hook it back up to my Mac to gain my data back from iTunes. Can I have both Mac and Windows software on my nano at the same time? Or do I have to stick with one system?

Chris, maybe you can help with my situation. It's the opposite from Jilly's. My wife uses her Nano with a PC; I'd like to share some of the stuff on my Mac with her. Can I Restore without losing what she's got already? (And then use the Nano with both computers thereafter...)
    TIA,
    Jeff

  • How come a USB will work with both Mac and Windows (as in that there are already files from Windows and Mac can still read and write onto it) but a external Hard Drive won't (as in there are files from Windows on there but Mac can read but not write)?

I have a Seagate Drive that I'm hoping to copy some movies from my Mac onto (because it only has a 512 SSD and I'd rather keep that empty and handy for more readily needed files) but it won't work. It shows up as a drive when connected (with the orange USB drive icon popping up) and is appropirately labeled "FreeAgent Drive", but when I try to copy files onto it it won't work. There are already windows files on there, such as some windows backups and lot's and lot's of pictures and videos. However, I have several USBs which already have windows files on them (namely movies, music, and other stuff) and copying and stuff works fine. Why won't it work with this hard drive and would work with USBs? Please help me out here guys, I am not experienced with Hard disks and formatting and stuff like that. 10 points for whoever helps me out the most. Thanks.

We will need to reformat your EXT, but it will then work on both Mac and Win
Connect the drive to your Mac, open disk utility
Go to the partiton tab and select '1' ... format should be ExFAT ... in options select MBR
    Format the drive
It should now work on both OSs; report back

  • Using iPod with both Mac and Windows

Is it possible to use the same iPod on both a Windows and Mac computer back and forth without losing all my songs and videos?
Right now I have Windows, but I'm getting a Mac and I want to be able to switch back and forth from computer to computer. Is this possible?
If not, how can I keep my songs and videos and put them on the new Mac? My CD burner is broke, so that's out of the question. If I had to choose, I'd want them to be on the Mac instead of the computer with Windows, but that's currently where my iTunes library is.

You can't use it on both. iPods get formatted for one or the other and then keyed to a single computer.
You can, however, move all of your files from one computer to the other. The easiest way would be target disk mode, but requires that the Windows PC have a FireWire port (which is fairly uncommon for Wintel boxes). You could also use an ethernet network cable between the two or connect them to the same network. Then, open the Mac's System Preferences, go to the Sharing preferences, and enable Windows Sharing or Windows File Sharing. With windows sharing selected, read the message that appears at the bottom of the screen. Something like "Windows users can access your computer at \\192.168.1.100\user"
Then, go to the Windows machine, open My Network Places (should be on the desktop, but if not try My Computer). Look for the "Entire Network" and try to find your Mac. If you have trouble finding it, do a search. Set it to look for "Computers" with the name... and enter your computer's name EXACTLY as is appears at the top of the Mac's Sharing preferences pane (capitals, spaces, lower-case, etc.). You can also try a search for the "\\192.168.1.100\user" address.
Once you find your computer, make a shortcut in the My Network Places folder for future use. Double click the icon for your mac and enter your Mac OS X short name and password in the SMB access dialogue (your short name can be found in System Preferences > Accounts > you). You should now be connected to your home folder on the Mac. You can drag and drop any files from the windows PC to your home folder (or folders within it).

  • Syncing with both MAC and Windows PC

Is there an easy way to sync the IPhone with both a MAC and a PC. I got my business contacts in my office PC and all my music, videos, in my personal MAC? At first I got a problem trying to sync with my PC (Windows XP) and I decided to transfer all the info to the MAC (Tiger), but it is a little inconvenient since I got to update a lot of info every day in the MAC to sync with IPhone and have all my business contacts and calendar updated.
    Any help?

This is too bad. i thought I had it working. i got my iphone, and synced it with all of the fun stuff on my Mac (photos, podcasts, audiobooks, video), and of course left the contact and calendar section alone when it was connected to the Mac. Then, when I went over to my work laptop (need my 900 contacts and updated calendar all the time), I unchecked everything but the relevant contacts, and Outlook calendars, and it synced fine!!! But...then I just went back to my Mac tonight to update some things, and although the Mac will recognize the iPhone through iPhoto to try to sync the camera pictures, it wil NOT show up under devices in iTunes now (on the Mac). This *****. Anybody have any luck?? I know there has got to be a huge amount of us out there, that need to merge the business and personal content we want/need on this device. I cant go dumping all of my massive amounts of media on my company owned laptop!!!!????

  • Can one ipod work with both mac and windows?

I have a 4th gen 20gb ipod with a mac system at home and a windows system at the office. Can this ipod sync to itunes on both computers?

I had a mini which i used on both my powerbook at home and my pc at work. now with my new 30gb ipod, when trying to use at work I only have the option to re-format thus loosing all my music?? could you explain linux? (if that's a way to do it)
    thanks
In short, no, you can't. An iPod formatted for Mac
can't be read by Windows, and a Windows Pod can't be
used by iTunes in Mac. You have to choose, or use
    Linux.

  • Use one Bluetooth microphone with both Mac and Windows 7

I would like to use a single Bluetooth microphone for dictation on the Mac side and on the Windows side. However, although I can get the microphone to work under both Snow Leopard (using DragonDictate) and Windows 7 (using Dragon NaturallySpeaking), I find that I must re-pair the microphone each time I switch operating systems.
Does anyone know of a way around this?

  • Syncing ipod with both mac and windows

i am considering getting a new ipod, but i want to put certain videos and stuff on it from a mac computer, but also want to be able to put music and videos and stuff on it from a pc. can it be done?

Determine which computer will be the one the iPod syncs to going forward. Use whatever means you want (networking, burning DVDs, using the iPod in disk mode, etc.) to get all of your media files on that one computer. Get those media files into iTunes, so that they are playable in iTunes. Then sync the iPod to that one computer.
If you want to continue to add media from two computers, it won't be as convenient. PCs cannot read the Mac format, but Macs can read the Windows format. So it has to be initially synced to the PC. Then, set the option to +Manually manage music+. You should then be able to add media files to the iPod manually on both computers.

  • Can't get WEP to work with both mac and windows machines.

Currently my airport express is setup with no security. When I try to setup using WEP it works great for my powerbook but the windows machines constantly get disconnected.
Any ideas? Should I use other types of wireless security (WPA etc...)? If so, can an xp machine be configured for that type?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If you can use WPA use WPA, it will depend on your PC
wireless adapter and if you are running Windows XP
    SP2.
--the window PC is running xp sp 2 but the adapter does not appear to support WPA (dell true mobile 1300 internal adapter)
from your response below not clear what is the best path to take given WEP is the only option.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual
standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit
WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors
use certain algorithms to convert simple
alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX
keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable
WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different
algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a
ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently
on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password
will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if
you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is
    required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key
    must be used regardless.

  • Is the 3g compatible with both Mac and Windows?

I have a 3g, and using it on the Mac OS. My question is:
Is the 3g iPod (40 gig) compatible with Windows? I know the 4th and 5th generations are, but I'm uncertain about the 3g.
    Thanks!

Yes, it is compatible with Windows. Either Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Pro, to be exact.
As stated in these specs here under the "Windows requirements":

  • Can you partition an external hard drive to run both mac and windows files

I have an external hard drive fomated for windows NTFS. I am unable to Write mac files to this drive. I need to be able to share the files
between both platforms. Any suggestions? Thanks

Format it as MS-DOS from a Mac or exFAT from a PC, or install Mac OS X software which allows it to write to NTFS drives, or hook it up to a PC and make it available as a network share.

  • Copy CD with Mac and Windows Files

I have a CD, not copy protected that has both Mac files and Windows files on it. Specifically it is a Printer Driver CD.
When I make an image of it with Disk Utility, the only files in it are the Mac files. I wanted to make a safe backup of the CD, including both the Mac files (for my PB G4) and the Windows files for when I install the print drivers on my new MacBook Pro using BootCamp.
Any ideas as to how to make a copy of a CD that has both Mac and Windows files on it?
    Thank you

Are you sure the Windows files aren't there? A lot of CDs are hybrids, and do not show the files that belong on another platform such as Windows. Put it in a Windows computer and check.
Otherwise, buy a copy of Toast and dupe it that way.

  • How to burn a DVD with two audio track?

There is a projet with the original video and a second audio track with music. I want to burn a DVD with both audio tracks. When playing the DVD you should be able to select audio track 1 (the original sound) or audio track 2 (the music). With Adobe Encore DVD it was easy to configure the two audio tracks and burn the DVD. It is posible to do the same from Adobe Premier Elements 11?
    Thanks,
    Jordi

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE does not allow for supplemental Audio Tracks, when authoring.
I use Adobe Encore for this, but it is only available bundled with Premiere Pro. I do not know if some other, third party, full-featured authoring apps., like Sony's DVD Architect can do that, but I would suspect that they can. The specifications for DVD Architect should have that information, and as it's quite common in full-featured authoring apps., I anticipate that it has that capability.
If you do go with that program, our MOD, Steve Grisetti, has written a very good book on DVD Architect, and it's available at Muvipix.com.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
