How to center MBP pointer on startup (relocated)?

Following someone's advice (S.U. wrote: "I have no idea myself, but if you don't get an answer here, you might try your question in the Leopard forum which is where there might be more software experts. Good luck!"), I decided to relocate my previous post on "How to use your MacBook Pro", which goes as follows:
Hi guys (and ladies)!
New on this forum, I confess I didn't have much time to prowl it in search for an answer to the question in the tittle of this post. I apologize for this, but the question itself is pretty straightforward: I'd like my TrackPad pointer to appear in the center of the screen on startup, the way it does on... err, um, you know, the OS from Redmond... You know?
I find it a hassle to have to dislodge it from its upper left corner every time I boot up my MBP, especially considering it takes several attempts to move it, with the Apple menu usually appearing when all I need is to click on a Dock icon...
I read somewhere that an AppleScript could be devised that would remedy to my problem, but I'm not fluent in AppleScript, so if you guys suggest something along this route, please make it understandable for the newbie that I am!
Thanks in advance...
PS: I'm on Tiger, but I gather an AppleScript's an AppleScript, right...?

Hi Didier Calzergues;
I have no ideas of how to solve your problem but I am going to suggest you repost here. Where I am sending you is the Automator section of Tiger since that it the operating system you are using.

    Hi all!
    This is becoming a gipsy post, since it's the second time around I've had to relocate it... (Smile)
    As Alan advised me to ("Hi Didier Calzergues; I have no ideas of how to solve your problem but I am going to suggest you repost here. An AppleScript is usually an AppleScript, but the AppleScript forum is actually here. Automator is a different animal, with both TIger and Leopard versions (or mutations, depending on your point of view).
    Anyway, you can do what you want with some scripting. First, there is the XTools scripting addition, which will give AppleScript the ability to move the mouse. Once the scripting addition is copied to either the /Library/ScriptingAdditions or ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions folders, you can use it's commands. Next, you will need to place a script application into your login items (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items) that will move the mouse when you log in:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    do shell script "/usr/sbin/system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType | grep 'Resolution'" -- get info
    tell the result to set {DisplayWidth, DisplayHeight} to {word 2, word 4} -- get resolution
    move mouse {DisplayWidth div 2, DisplayHeight div 2} -- center mouse
    </pre>

    OK, that's one way to put it, but I already have a PC with Windoze installed (I happen to beta-test Seven like a half-dozen billion other people...), so if I wanted to run Windoze, I'd do it on my other computer.
    No, seriously, doesn't anyone know of a script that would center the pointer on the screen of my MBP when it boots up? Like giving it new spacial coordinates (e.g. x=720, y=450 for my 1440x900px display)?
    OK, I'll make it simple (???): how do you instruct the pointer to act the way I've just described via AppleScript?

  • How to center the text displayed in a JList

    Hi,
    The width of the JList display area is wider than the text displayed. I tried to center the text displayed to make it look nicer. I had tried using "setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT)" in my own ListCellRenderer class but did not work. Any idea how to center the text?
    Fai.

    Yes, I am using JLabels in my renderer and the following is the code:
    public class MyCellRenderer extends JLabel implements ListCellRenderer {
         private static final Color HIGHLIGHT_COLOR = new Color(0, 0, 128);
         public MyCellRenderer() {
              setOpaque(true);
              setIconTextGap(12);
         public Component getListCellRendererComponent(
              JList list,
              Object value,
              int index,
              boolean isSelected,
              boolean cellHasFocus)
              String entry = (String)value;
              setText(entry);
              setFont(new Font("Ariel", Font.BOLD, 18));
              setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT);
              if(isSelected) {
                   setBackground(HIGHLIGHT_COLOR);
                   setForeground(Color.white);
              } else {
                   setBackground(Color.white);
                   setForeground(Color.black);
              return this;
    Can you point out where to implement the centering logic?
    Thanks,
    Fai.

  • Center Anchor Point at a Layer

    How can i center Anchor Point to a Layer center? Are there commands to align a center point?

    I dont need to do it with expressions, but i began to think this will do the only way.
    The very common situations are:
    (1) user creates a layer and draw a mask on it
    (2) user creates a text layer
    (3) user creates a shape layer
    The question is:
    how to position a layer Anchor Point
    in the center of a mask, text or shape
    without alter their position coordinates?
    Usually i see users position Anchor Point by hand
    but i imagine if there isnt a way to be sure it is absolutely centralized in a specific element
    (shape, mask or text)...
    Is the only way by dragging it by "eye method"?

  • How to center menu and add spacing between buttons?

    Here is my site: http://lauraportfolio.hostoi.com/index.html (If you are using Google Chrome you can right click and select "view page source" to see the html of the page)
    See how the menu button are justified the left of the light pink menu bar? How can I put them in the center?
    I would like to know how to center the menu, and then add spacing between the buttons.
    At one point I added spacing between the buttons using CSS padding, but when I did that the last menu button, "Graphics" ran off the pink menu bar and became invisible and all kinds of crazy ugly stuff!
    Below is what I beleive to be all of the CSS styling for the menu:
    #menubar
              width: 900px;
              height: 72px;
              padding: 0;
              background-color: transparent;
              background-image: url(transparentpink.png);
              background-repeat: repeat;
    ul#menu, ul#menu li
    { float: left;
      margin: 0;
      padding: 0;}
    ul#menu li
              list-style: none;
              padding-right: 0px;
              padding-left: 0px;
              margin-right: auto;
              margin-left: auto;
    ul#menu li a
              letter-spacing: 0.1em;
              display: block;
              float: left;
              height: 37px;
              text-align: center;
              color: #f0dbca;
              text-transform: none;
              text-decoration: none;
              background: transparent;
              font-family: bonvenoCF, verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
              font-size: 150%;
              font-style: normal;
              font-weight: normal;
              font-variant: normal;
              padding-top: 29px;
              padding-right: 26px;
              padding-bottom: 6px;
              padding-left: 26px;
    ul#menu li a:hover, ul#menu li.selected a, ul#menu li.selected a:hover
              color: #F0DBCA;
              background-color: #F1836A;

    PART 1
    So as long as the width of the buttons plus the padding doesn't go over 900px it won't run off the page?
    Right.   The "box model" in CSS works like this:
    width + padding + border = actual visible/rendered width of box
    height + padding + border = actual visible/rendered height of box.
    PART 2
    And do you know how I can center the whole thin instead of it being left-aligned on the menu bar?
    You can't center floated menu items.  The best you can do is make your menu fit the entire width of the container (or as close as you can) as described in PART 1 above.
    To center your #menu container, use margin:0 auto;
    To center text, use text-align:center on the #menu li a.

  • How to do bullet points?

    Hi...i have read the keynote manual but i am not sure how to have bullet points in the middle of a slide as opposed to always being on the left hand side of the slide. Can anyone please help. I've tried inspector and the help guides but im not getting anywhere. If anyone could help i would be extremely grateful
    Thanks
    Rob

    What you want to do is just make the edge of the text box be in the center of the slide. This will be easier if you turn on guides for the edges of objects - to go your preferences, rulers preferences, and check "show guides at object edges".
    Now take your text box and just resize it so that the bullets are where you want them to be. You may need to set them to no indent (using the inspector) in order for the object edge guides to be helpful - when the edge of the object is in the middle of the slide, you should see a yellow vertical line that cuts through the entire slide to indicate this.

  • How do you re-install the startup software?

    After hitting the power button I only get a black screen. I shutdown and restart a few times and then get the fuzzy gray screen with the spinning wheel ...
    I get this problem regardless of what startup disk I used (hard drive, mac os x install cd, or no startup volume). So I think re-installing the operating system on that hard drive probably won't fix it (?). If not, how do I re-install this startup software?
    Thanks for any info.
    imac g5

    To clarify:
    You insert the OS X Installer Disc that came with the computer into the optical drive. You restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the "C" key. You release the key when the spinning gear appeared below the dark gray Apple logo. Am I correct? If so, then you say the computer still will not start up from the Installer Disc? If this is correct then take the computer to an Apple service center for repair.

  • How to determine a point(or a path)  inside a closed path?

    I came across such a problem:
          My client requires add a number marks inside a closed path ,and such a closed path is irregular,
    My question is, how to ensure a point(or a path) is inside another closed path,and how to calculate this point?
    Is there any suite in the SDK to accomplish this function?

    haha ,I found a good way to solve this problem,We can use AIPathfinderSuite::DoFrontMinusBackEffect  to determine  whether a path  inside another closed path.

  • How do I disable the automatic startup on HP Photosmart Premier when I turn my computer on?

    Someone else posted ths question a month ago, but still no answers.  Anyone?
    How do I disable the automatic startup on HP Photosmart Premier when I turn my computer on?
    Windows XP, SP3 operating system recently re-installed so I also reinstalled my printer software.  Now, for some reason, each time I turn my computer on, my HP Photosmart C4100 all-in-one photosmart premier software opens.  It is not in my startup.  This slows down my computer terribly, which is why I never used the program before my re-install.  How can I disable this feature?  I only print, I don't use it for photos.
    Any help here is appreciated.

    Run msconfig.exe from the start button (type in msconfig).  When it comes up go to the Startup tab and find and deselect the HP product you do not want to start.  Save and reboot computer.  Now try.
    Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.
    If my post resolved your problem, please mark it as an Accepted Solution ...
    I worked for HP but now I'm retired!

  • How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch have at the same time?

    How many Multi-Touch points can an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad have at the same time?
    I am curious as IIRC (but forgot where the article is on the Internet),
    if a touch surface is wanted to be able to detect more than 1 touch point at the same time,
    then that touch surface needs adding 1 more conductive(?) layer.
    (e.g. 2 points -> 2 layers, and so on)
    So I wonder how many these layers are on the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad or even the trackpad on every MacBook (Pro).
    (correct me if I'm wrong)
    Just curious, thanks in advance!

    I believe it can only support 2. This article explains how the touch screen works but doesn't explicitly say how many points is supports.

  • How do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

    how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

    You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
    I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
    And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • How do I fix that at startup, restart Mavericks 10.9.2 always opens the system preference window?

    How do I fix that at startup, restart Mavericks 10.9.2 always opens the system preference window?
    It is not listed in Login items. I tried all the usual fixes plus Diskwarrior rebuild.
                                                                                                                                    W.W.

    I suggest deleting the Canon Network Scanner from Login Items to determine if that is the cause. Not knowing exactly what it does, I suspect it is intended to monitor the printer's supply levels all the time. It's not necessary to do that. You can always determine the printer's ink supply level every time you print something, when its Print dialog appears. You can also check its supply levels by opening System Preferences on your own, and selecting Printers & Scanners.
    Bear in mind Login Items is simply a convenience that loads the programs you specify every time you log in. That feature is less important as it had been in the past since Mavericks will re-open everything that was open when you last logged out, if you select this checkbox:
    If you want to add the Adobe programs to Login Items again, search for them using Spotlight. The Adobe programs themselves should not be causing this behavior.

  • How to center text in shapes

    how to center text in shapes. specifically circles.  I want text to be centered directly in the middle

    A lot depends on what you mean by centered, the number of lines of text, the actual font, and whether there are descenders.
    Using vertical justification set to centered may or may not work for you, depending on the above factors, as it depends on the baseline, I believe, rather than the acutal glyph dimensions. You could try adding baseline shift, I suppose, to make fine vertical adjustments, or you can bite the bullet and use the old-fashioned method of two frames.

  • How to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1

    hi i am bhaskar ... how to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1 and how to restore system from a restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1.. is this option available or not ? what is the difference between shadow copies and
    restore point ? instead of restore point we have this shadow copies option in windows server 2008 ?Bhaskar

    AFIK, Restore Points doesn’t exist in Windows 2008.
    Volume Shadow Copy option can be used to achieve:
    Creating consistent backups of open files and applications
    Creating shadow copies for shared folders
    Creating transportable shadow copies using a hardware provider — for backup, testing and data mining scenarios
    Quickly recovering and restoring files and data
    It is more like a file, data, application backup.
