How to check web service (logical port) accessibility

Before call some web services, a check needs to be done to make sure the web service connection is accessible. In fact, a logical port is used; and its accessibility needs to be checked in ABAP code.
Besides calling the web service method itself and catching the exception, is there any other general way to check whether the web service connection available?
more details in respect of this question:
The executing of web services will take a relative long time while sometimes only the availability checking for web services is needed. So I'm finding other ways to check that.
In the code, the logical port will be used for accessing web services. Any way to check whether a logical port works OK in code?
Thanks!

Hi Prashant,
Thanks for your attention.
Do you mean give the web service url and check it? Neither do I know which method can be used in this regarding from program RSDEMO_HTML_VIEWER.
I'd like to give more details in respect of this question:

    A<SYNCH-11> How do my web service methods accees EJBs and java classes?
    A<SYNCH-11> It is simple to use java classes, just do it as you would ordinarily.
    The .jws file really contains a simple class so you can program with it in the same
    way that you would use a regular Java class.
    To use an EJB you can go and access it directly as you would with any EJB remote
    client (lookup home stub, create, etc) or if the EJB is deployed to WLS you can use
    a control to provide a very simple wrapper to the EJB. We will see this in detail
    on Thursday in the ADVC module.

    Futher information about the possibility of callback:
    It may be possible for a synchronous only web service (i.e. MS .net) to even paticipant
    in the callback functionality of asynchronous web services. If the client implements
    the appropriate methods for the callback but listens for them on a different port
    or binding than the SOAP request, then web service may be able to build a response
    if the client's "callback URL" is submitted as the beginning part of a conversation.
    Watch the BEA developer forum (http://dev2dev.bea.com) for more information about
    this approach and other tips and techniques for building web services.

    this is true.
    Does it means my async methods will only work with J2EE clients?
    A<SYNCH-03> I do not know the limitations of .net but let me point out that
    is very
    difficult to provide asynchronous web service method invocation (this is
    different
    from an asynchronous web service). HTTP as a general communication protocol
    is based
    on a request and response paradigm so your client libraries will mostly
    likely be
    expecting a response even if it is empty (check the asynchronous example
    from today
    to see that the start method still returns an empty response). You must
    distinguish
    this from the notion of an asynchronous web service which is a business
    operation
    that occurs on the server whose return value/result is not directly associated
    with
    building response to the client. An asynchronous web service can (and generally
    will)
    be started and stopped with web service operations that are invoked synchronously.
    Thus MS .net clients can still be client to WLS hosted web services.

  • How to check amsilent file in Sun Access manager patch or redeploying WAR's

    h1. How to check amsilent file in Sun Access manager patch or redeploying WAR's
    I had a hard time getting all the passwords correct, so I wrote a shell (bash) script that uses most passwords and other parameters in searches and queries. It let's you know before you start if a value is wrong. It does not change anything, only queries.
    h2. One pitfall I found ...
    during the postinstall of patch 05. I told Sun about it, but I suspect it was too late and is also an issue with patch 06:
    Look at the documentation regarding amconfig and the amsilent file:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2137/adsav?l=en&q=amconfig&a=view
    Two problems that are clear to me now:
    1. ADMINPASSWD in practice, this password is used for cn=puser, not amadmin as it says. Perhaps there is something that makes them the same. It was the same for me, so it probably does not matter.
    2. AS81_ADMINPASSWD is not the same as ADMINPASSWD using either my definition or the document's definition. However, in the amsilent template, it is set like this, which I found is incorrect and the cause of my recent hair loss:
    <blockquote>AS81_ADMINPASSWD="$ADMINPASSWD"</blockquote>
    Also, this one if you use the web server:
    <blockquote>WL8_PASSWORD="$ADMINPASSWD"</blockquote>
    Delete the $ADMINPASSWD and replace it with the password for the app/web server.
    h2. The Script.
    It tests for the above problem, but I just realized it does not check $ADMINPASSWD. If that is set incorrectly in your amsilent, you'll get errors immediately from amconfig, so no big deal. If you make improvements, please post a reply!
    Paste this into a file named checkamsilent. LDAP and appserver must be running. It reads /opt/SUNWam/amsilent. Run it as root or use sudo:
    sudo ./checkamsilent
    #!/usr/bin/bash
            echo "This will test several important parameters of the amsilent file "
            echo "run this as root."

    Hi Kiran,
    Here are all steps You need to do
    "Securing Web Services using JDeveloper and WS-Security" http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/101/howtos/securews/index.html
    Set username and password:
    (...)myPort= new ServicePortTypeClient(); //<- Your webservice port class
    // security
    myPort.setUsername("exampleuser");
    myPort.setPassword("examplepassword");
    You don't need to write more code in java.
    I hope it helps.
    Kind regards
    Hubert M.

    Hello,
    We have some live web services developed in SOA ESB using JDeveloper.
    We are now forced to migrate to OSB because of the reason that sometime next year ESB will be de-supported by Oracle.
    I am looking for some good documentation which explains how to create web services in OSB using Eclipse. Please help.
    I am installed Web logic + OEPE + OSB in my local machine already. All I need is to know how to start development.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You can start with this:

    Thanx

    Hi Krishna,
    Yes it is possible.
    Check this Link
    [JDeveloper Web Service|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/10131_wstopdown/wstopdown.htm#t2]
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/10131_wstopdown/wstopdown.htm#t2
    I strongly suggest you to go for Eclipse, instead of Netbeans or Jdeveloper incase of WebService. If you want to run your code in all the Server without making any changes go for Eclipse based development for Web Service.
    Kindly let me know if you need some more inputs.

    Can you give some tip about how connect the web service ?The HTTP protocol obviously need to be used. Oracle provides a couple of HTTP client (web browser like) interfaces. Obviously there is no rendering engine/DOM in PL/SQL as this does not make much sense in a server side language. As a web service typically returns XML, that is not a problem as XML is something that servers need to deal with - and Oracle fully supports XML via SQL, PL/SQL and database structures.
    A basic example of how to use the UTL_HTTP interface for interacting with a web service is in {message:id=4205205}. If you scroll up in that thread, you will also see more complex approaches of loading the web service WSDL and using that to make calls to the service - something that involves too many moving parts and Java unnecessarily.

  • How to generate web services for OAS with wsdl extension

    Hi,
    I wanted to know how to generate web services from Oracle Application Server especially with .wsdl extension and with document/literal style.
    I know that earlier there was a tool called SmartConnect from BEA WebLogic.
    But that will work only with ALSB (Aqua logic Service Bus). I guess that ALSB has been renamed as Oracle Service Bus by Oracle after the acquisition of WebLogic. My question is what is the new name for the SmartConnect Tool from WebLogic, which generates wsdl very easily from Oracle database.
    I am unable to know the new name for SmartConnect and how to download that tool from Oracle web site.
    Also, I want to know, whether there is any other way to generate the wsdl from Oracle, if so, please let me know.

  • How to deploy web service as part of console.war

    Hello,
    I need to expose the deploy functionality of bpel console as web service. I see that there is a JSP page which pretty much does the same thing in console.war. So I know what my Java class is going to look like the problem is I am very new to OC4J so I don't know how to deploy it as web service on this container. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    I tried going through the tutorial on deploying web services on OC4J but the sample stateless class does not compile because it cannot find some proxy classes. Also next I copied ws_example.ear in 'D:\OraBPEL_1\bpel\system\appserver\oc4j\j2ee\home\applications' and restarted server but it is not deployed.
    Thank you,
    Meghana

    Thank you for replying to my post.
    The requirement is that we deploy BPEL suitcase remotely. My impression was that one can get handle to the Locator object only if running on local machine so I was looking at how to create web service on Oracle BPEL PM itself that will accept the stream of jar and deploy it locally.
    However now looking at this tutorial and the Java docs, I know it supports RMI calls. So I can use this constructor to get Locator instance -
    public Locator(java.lang.String domainId,
    java.lang.String password,
    java.util.Hashtable pInitialContextProperties)
    throws ServerException
    Can you let me know sample initial context properties? I checked the sample InvokingProcesses' context.properties
    orabpel.platform=oc4j_10g
    java.naming.factory.initial=com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory
    java.naming.provider.url=ormi://ca-guru/orabpel
    java.naming.security.principal=default
    java.naming.security.credentials=welcome1
    My guess is I have to change that url but I don't know where to point it. Also could you please let me know what are the jars I will need on the client side?
    Thank you. I appreciate your help.

  • How to use web service consumer as a source to connect to Salesforce?

    I see a lot of articles and mapping xmls on how to use web service consumer but as a newbie I am not able to view the object schema from my salesforce enterprise WSDL after importing it in Informatica designer as a source. My enterprise wsdl has operations like create, retrieve, upsert, delete etc so if I want to read data from account then could someone guide me on how to use the web service consumer to view the fields after importing the wsdl.  After importing the wsdl and selecting the operation say create, the columns (ports) displayed shows different groups but it doesn't list the object fields? what am I missing here? And what is the operation to read data from Salesforce is it "retrieve" from the entripse wsdl? As a newbie on this, I appreciate any inputs on this topic.
