How to clone a new machine from another with different hardware

How do I clone a new Sun Blade 2500 from a Sun Blade 1000 (with Solaris8)?
Is ufsdump/ufsrestore a solution? Are all needed drivers included in the kernel from the Sun Blade 1000? Or, do I first need to install patches/updates on the Sun Blade 1000?
Or, what's a better solution? Please no solutions like jumpstart, only simple cloning.
Thanks.

This isn't a simple process. The cleanest way is to take a flash archive of the Sun Blade 1000 then install it on the 2500. There is good documention for this on the Sun Blue Prints web page www.sun.com/blueprints.
Below is the down and dirt way of doing it.
Follow the instructions exactly and it will work.
1. Make sure OS supports both hardware architectures
2. Make sure you disconnect any storage except boot devices
3. Make sure boot device is unencapsulated
With a disk with the OS from the Sun Blade 1000 on it in the Sun Blade 2500. I put a disk in the master server (the Sun Blade 1000) and copy the OS using ufsdump to the disk and then take the disk and put it in the clone (the Sun Blade 2500).
4. From OK prompt, boot single user from a cdrom of the same OS which your boot disk is using
5. Use the installboot command to install the boot block on the new drive.
6. Use the uname -i command to make sure you use the right architecture.
7. Make boot block
# installboot /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk/dev/rdsk/c?t0d0s0
8. Mount boot slice to be modified
# mount /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s0 /mnt
9. Remove old systems device tree. Delete the following files and directories.
# rm -r /mnt/devices/*
# rm /mnt/dev/dsk/*
# rm /mnt/dev/rdsk/*
# rm /mnt/etc/path_to_inst
# touch /mnt/etc/path_to_inst
# rm -r /mnt/dev/cfg/* (solaris 8 and 9)
# rm /mnt/dev/.dev*
10. Build new device tree and path_to_inst
# drvconfig -r /mnt/devices -p /mnt/etc/path_to_inst
# devlinks -r /mnt
# disks -r /mnt
# tapes -r /mnt
# ports-r /mnt
# audlinks -r /mnt
11. Make sure you update /etc/vfstab to reflect the new device target and slices.
12. Reboot machine, you may have run a couple boot -r to clean other devices up.
13. Perform another boot -r to bring in storage.
Good luck

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

    How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
    I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
    It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
    The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
    Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
    This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

  • How do I stop new tabs from opening with Bing (i've check the add-ons and extenstions)

    My homepage works fine, but when I open a new tab, that page opens to a Bing search page. I've gone to tools>add-ons> and searched both add-ons and extensions... there nothing listed there that refers to Bing.
    Once the tab opens, i can hit my home button which takes me to my home page, but that step is annoying.

    Have u installed any new programs lately... when I do I breeze through installation but they always try to get you to install bing or ask.com as your homepage.. Anyway u can email me if u have not figured it out yet and maybe I could help. Jc

    How can I edit my website from another computer? and how can I create a new website next to the one, I already have? Can anyone help, please?

    Move the domain.sites file from one computer to the other.
    The file is located under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Move this file to the same location on the other computer and double click and iWeb will open it.  Remember, it is your User Library that you want and not your System Library, as you will not find iWeb there.
    Just create a new site on the same domain file and it will appear below the other site.  If you want them side by side then duplicate your domain file and have one site per a domain file and they can then be side by side.

  • How do i use a Time Machine from another computer from Time Capsule with multibackups

    Can Iuse a Time Machine from another computer from Time Capsule with multibackups

    Not sure what you are asking here.
    Time Machine is software on a Mac that is used to backup that Mac to a Time Capsule hard drive.
    Are you asking if another  Mac can backup to the same Time Capsule that other Macs are already using?
    Or, if not....please clarify on exactly what you want to do.

  • How do you Deauthorize a machine from your account

    Hi all, I don't know if I'm posting in the right place or not, If I'm not then I'm sorry. How do you Deauthorize a Machine from your account, anybody know? what it is. When I set the account up to buy tracks from Itunes. I was using the same Laptop that I'm using now, Just a differnt hard drive as The old hard drive died on me. I never bought any tracks from Itunes so I didn't have any to lose. I couldn't deauthorize this laptop because I didn't know that the laptop was going to die on me. In went the new hard drive. re-installed windows xp pro & re-installed itunes 8.1 clicked on authorize this machine & it came up with 3 machines out of 5. it's the same Laptop on the account. how to I remove this laptop twice from the account is it possible cheers?, If i do remove 1 of the machines, will I lose the rights to play back the tracks that I've bought today?

    You can't deauthorise 'dead' installations or computers you no longer have access to individually. However once you reach the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option to deauthorise them all in one go from your iTunes account and start over. *Just note that you can only use this option once a year*: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • How to create a new connection from SAPGUI to Test drive?

    Hi,
    I have installed Sap Netweaver Test drive on a linux virtual machine (windows host). The installation was successful and I was able to start the instance (application server and the database), yet I don't know how to create a new connection from my SAPGUI client (7.20) to this server. The static IP address of the server is 192.168.1.160.
    I entered the following values for my new connection entry
    Description: SAP Netweaver
    Application server: 192.168.1.160
    Instance number: 01
    System ID: DB2
    SAProuter: /H/192.168.1.160/S/3201/H/
    But it does not work. Any idea about the values needed  for creating a new entry?
    Thanks in advance,

  • How to call a Java class from another java class ??

    Hi ..... can somebody plz tell me
    How to call a Java Class from another Java Class assuming both in the same Package??
    I want to call the entire Java Class  (not any specific method only........I want all the functionalities of that class)
    Please provide me some slotuions!!
    Waiting for some fast replies!!
    Regards
    Smita Mohanty

    Hi Smita,
    you just need to create an object of that class,thats it. Then you will be able to execute each and every method.
    e.g.
    you have developed A.java and B.java, both are in same package.
    in implementaion of B.java
    class B
                A obj = new A();
                 //to access A's methods
                 A.method();
                // to access A's variable
                //either
               A.variable= value.
               //or
               A.setvariable() or A.getvariable()

  • How do you call a method from  another class without extending as a parent?

    How do you call a method from another class without extending it as a parent? Is this possible?

    Why don't you just create an instance of the class?
    Car c = new Car();
    c.drive("fast");The drive method is in the car class, but as long as the method is public, you can use it anywhere.
    Is that what you were asking or am I totally misunderstanding your question?

    Only if you have iTunes Match or of the computers are on the same local network.

    You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.
