How to create partitioned bitmap index in SQL Developer?
I am running SQL Developer version 3.0.04.34 ; on Windows 7 (64 bit) against:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
CORE 11.1.0.7.0 Production
TNS for Linux: Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.1.0.7.0 - Production
I am trying to create a bitmap index on a partitioned fact table which is part of a data warehouse. The index is in support of a single-column foreign-key to a dimension table. Heretofore, we had been using partitioned B-Tree indexes. According to the Data Warehousing Guide, we should consider using bitmap indexes for this purpose. Accordingly, I was trying to create such an index in our development environment. I used SQL Developer to edit the table, and attempted to create a bitmap index using the advanced screen from the index edit screen. I changed the partition type to "Local" from "None" using the radio button. When I attempt to save this change, I get an error message "A bitmap index cannot have a global partition". This happens whether or not I have assigned storage for the partitions. The index partition names are the ones used successfully for the existing B-tree indexes. I can create the SQL for the index creation by hand, but it would be simpler and easier to maintain if I could use SQL Developer.
Any help on this issue would be appreciated.
Vin Steele
There is a radio button for index type in the New Index... dialog and in the index section of the edit table dialog.
Which version of SQL Developer are you using?

Unable to create a bitmap index
Hi,
I want to create a bitmap index on one of the colums on a table. I fired following query and it failed.
SQL> CREATE BITMAP INDEX TRANS_N_BITMAPIDX_VEH_PLATFORM ON TRANSACTION_NEW(VEH_PLATFORM) LOCAL;

But I was able to create bitmap index on VEH_MODEL,MODL_YR_NBR and VEH_MAKE columns without any error.
Why does it error out for VEH_PLATFORM column?

I am sure that BITMAP index is only created for
VEH_MAKE
VEH_MODEL
MODL_YR_NBR
BUILD_REGION
VEH_LINE_SERIES
TRANS_CTG_ID
and not for VEH_PLATFORM.

Estimation of Local Partitioned Bitmap Index size in Oracle
Its datawarehousing project and the we have around 20 partitioned dimensional tables . The requirement is to create local partitioned bitmap index on almost all columns of dimension tables excluding primary key columns as they are already indexed. We need to estimate the size of index partitionwise.
Please let me have if there is any ready piece of script which will help me in estimating size of bitmap local partitioned index. You may want to look into the DBMS_SPACE.CREATE_INDEX_COST procedure.
Usage Notes* The table on which the index is created must already exist.
* The computation of the index size depends on statistics gathered on the segment.
* It is imperative that the table must have been analyzed recently.
* In the absence of correct statistics, the results may be inaccurate, although the procedure will not raise any errors. -

How to create a linked server to SQL in Oracle?
I am able to create a linked server to Oracle in SQL.. But I do not know the steps to create a linked server too SQL in Oracle.
How to create a linked server to SQL in Oracle? After creating the linked server to SQL, I would like to create triggers in Oracle DB to insert records into SQL DB.There are 2 products in Oracle you can use to link to a MS SQl Server. The first one is for free and it is called Database Gateway for ODBC. With a suitable 3rd party ODBC driver you can connect to any foreign database. The second gateway is our commercial gateway and it is called Oracle Database Gateway for MS SQL Server. It is designed for MS SQl Server connections and more powerful then Dg4ODBC. It know how to map a lot of Oracle functions to SQL Server equivalents and you can also use it to directly call SQL Server procedures or functions. This dedicated SQL server gateway is also able to participate in distributed transactions.
But again, this is a commercial gateway and you have to purchase a license for that second gateway, the Database Gateway for MS SQl Server.

How to create conditional update trigger in sql server
How to create conditional update trigger in sql server
You cant create a conditional update trigger. Once you create an update trigger it will get called for every update action. However you could write logic inside it to make it do your activity based on your condition using IF condition statement
Say for example if you've table with 6 columns and you want some logic to be implemented on update trigger only if col3 and col5 are participating in update operation you can write trigger like this
CREATE TRIGGER Trg_TableName_Upd
ON TableName
FOR UPDATE
AS
BEGIN
IF UPDATE(Col3) OR UPDATE (Col5)
BEGIN
....your actual logic here
END
END
UPDATE() function will check if column was involved in update operation and returns a boolean result
Please Mark This As Answer if it helps to solve the issue Visakh ---------------------------- http://visakhm.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/VmBlogs -

I have followed the steps to the last letter using: Data Loading and the Oracle Database Cloud Service
What I have done on the dashboard and APEX:
I changed the password of the SFTP user.
I have created a new user on APEX that belongs to the SQL Developer Group and changed the 'Require change on Password on First Use' to NO before creating the user
SQL Developer:
I set the database username to the new user I created in APEX
I set the database URL to the URL I used to reach the APEX page...https://databasetrial1875-******.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com/apex/
I set the SFTP username to the username listed next to 'Service SFTP User Name' on the dashboard
I set the SFTP hostname to: sftp.us1.cloud.oracle.com
I left the port set to 22
When I login on SQL Developer to database, I use the password for the user I created in APEX
Thanks in advance to all who help!Hi,
You have to use the admin account to add the admin role to the developer account. Can you please try this and let me know of your feedback.
The settings you added look good, and the you have the latest version of Sql DEVELOPER , ...so this should be an issue.
Maybe you have some firewall setting on your computer, that are blocking the connection?
If , after checking all of the above you still have an issue, please contact oracle support via the chat on the cloud.oracle.com and ask the engineer to open a Service Request under your name.
Thanks,

How to see data modeller reports in sql developer?
1) export your design to existing schema in Oracle database
2) define connection to that schema in SQL Developer
3) find "Data Modeler Reports" in reports window of SQL Developer - probably "design rules" are more interesting here

How to create Spatial index in SQL Developer Data Modeler 4
Hi,
What is the procedure to create a Spatial index in SDDM v4 ? I ended up in a deadlock due to the following issues :
1) Reverse engineering missed the spatial index, so I need to add them manually.
2) Adding an index does not allow me to check the 'spatial index' checkbox, nor does it allow me to add the sdo_geometry column in the index definition.
3) When registering Spatial properties for a table, I cannot choose the Spatial Index name.
I came across an old post (Data Modeler - can't create a spatial indexes), yet this post is no longer valid since SDDM V4 does not allow me to create an index without columns (incomplete index definition).
Help is appreciated,
Kind regards,
Richard.Hi,
One more thing : When doing a compare with the database (from which I reverse engineered) there was only 1 difference (apart from the storage details, which could be ignored by setting a parameter).
This is the Spatial Table property. This was set in the Model, but what would be the corresponding setting in the database ?
The Spatial Table property is set on import from the database if the "Spatial Properties" option is set for the import, and there is an entry for the Table and its owning Schema in the metadata view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA.
ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA is similar to USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA, but has an additional OWNER column identifying the schema that owns the table (as described in section 2.8 of the Oracle Spatial and Graph Developer's Guide: http://st-doc.us.oracle.com/database/121/SPATL/sdo_objrelschema.htm#SPATL545).
The fact that your table is not being treated as a spatial table suggests that either the import cannot access the view ALL_SDO_GEOM_METADATA or it cannot find an entry for the table and its owning schema in that view.
Are any errors being logged to your log file when you do your import? (You can see the log by selecting External Log from Data Modeler's View menu.)
David
