How to debug with EJB+Servlet+J2ME at the same time?
I am setting up an environment to compile Sun's Smart Ticket J2ME application. However, it run with application exception in the servlet or EJB. I tried to debug. But if I debug the servlet with Embedded AS in JDeveloper, I cannot debug the EJB since the EJB cannot deployed to the embedded AS. (EJB and Servlet must be co-existed in the same AS, at least using same JNDI)
So is there any good approach to debug?
email: [email protected]Hi Marvin,
If the EJB cannot be deployed to the embedded AS, then you should probably use remote debugging to debug the servlet and EJB in the stand-alone AS.
Look in the Help for topics about remote debugging the OC4J application server. (I'd give you the exact topic title, but I'm at home for the holidays and I don't have the latest JDev on this machine.)
The Help topic describes it in more details, but the basic steps are as follows:
1. Launch the AS in debug mode by inserting some debugging options on the command line used to start up the AS.
If you are using OJVM, then the debugging options are
-XXdebug,port4000,detached
If you are using another JVM (for example HotSpot), then the debugging options are
-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=4000,suspend=n
2. Set your project for remote debugging by checking the Remote Debugging checkbox on the Debugging - Remote panel of the Project Settings dialog. Also you should select the "Attach to OJVM" radio button if you are using OJVM or the "Attach to JPDA" radio button if you are using another JVM (for example HotSpot).
3. Click the debug button in JDev and enter the host and port where the AS is running (leave host blank if the AS is on the same machine as J[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time. -
How to Debug a Java Project in Eclipse using Tomcat6.0
Hi
Can anybody help me with the following questions.
1.How to create a java project in eclipse(I am using jsp,servlets,jsf,spring,jasper,struts).
2.How to debug my application in Eclipse Europa by putting break points.
3.how should i add Tomcat6.0 to my project in order to debug my application so that i can put break points while running the applications and observe the values.
Thanks
BalaYou may find this tutorial useful regarding to JSF, Eclipse and Tomcat: http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/01/jsf-tutorial-with-eclipse-and-tomcat.html
To put breakpoints, just doubleclick on the left gray rule of the code, you'll get blue bullets at the left rule, indicating a break point. Run Tomcat in debug modus (rightclick Tomcat debug). Use the Eclipse debug perspective to step in the code (window open perspective debug). -
Casting problems getting a home I/F of an EJB in another app when debuging a servlet
(Jdeveloper version = 9.0.2.798, OC4J Application Server version = Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0))
I am trying to debug a multi-tier application using the embedded application server. Servlets and EJBs within that application need to call EJBs contained within a second application (Horus).
I have set up the embedded application server to run this second application automatically by adding the following entry into its server.xml
<application auto-start="true" name="Horus" path="M:\Studio\build\production\java\Server\Obfuscate\J2EE_HOME\Horus\Horus.xml"/>
I then start the embedded application server by debugging my servlet project, 'intermediateServlet'. I know the second application is running correctly in the embedded application server because I can access it from a separate client.
In the 'intermediateServlet', I want to obtain a reference to a Dispatcher EJB held in the Horus application. This EJB has the following properties
ejb-name = com.internal.server.Dispatcher
home interface = com.internal.server.DispatcherHome
bean class = com.internal.server.DispatcherEJB
remote interface= com.internal.server.Dispatcher
The following code is executed during the container's call to my servlet init( context ) method to try and get the appropriate home interface.
Context context = null;
Object tempRemoteIF1 = null;
Object tempRemoteIF2 = null;
Properties h = null;
h = new Properties();
h.put( Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory" );
h.put( Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://127.0.0.1:23891/Horus");
h.put( Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "user0" );
h.put( Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "password" );
context = new InitialContext (h);
tempRemoteIF1 = context.lookup( "com.internal.server.Dispatcher" );
tempRemoteIF2 = javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject.narrow
tempRemoteIF1,
Class.forName( "com.internal.server.DispatcherHome" )
The context.lookup call seems to work fine, returning an object of the class
DispatcherHome_StatelessSessionHomeWrapper5
Which I presume is a containter generated class implementing the home interface. To help confirm this,
the object has a property beanName that has the value "com.internal.server.Dispatcher".
The problem occurs on the next line, when I check whether I can cast the object to the home interface using ProtableRemoteObject.narrow(). This gives the following exception.

Interestingly, if I use practically the same code, to obtain the home interface of an EJB that is defined in the application that I am debugging, the cast works perfectly. The returned object looks identical, apart from the name to the DispatcherHome_StatelessSessionHomeWrapper5 mentioned above.
Could the error possibly be because I need to declare 'Horus' as a parent application of the application I am debugging? If it is how do I do this?
Many thanks in advance for any help with this one.

HOW TO: Debug a remote JSP
<h1>HOW TO: Debug a remote JSP</h1>
<strong>Note: </strong>The process of debugging a remote JSP on an Apache/Jserv
installation involves a couple extra steps that were not covered in the JDeveloper
3.2 documentation. </p>
<strong>Introduction</strong></p>
You use JDeveloper to debug JavaServer Pages (JSP) deployed and running on
a server that includes a JSP container, such as Apache Jserv. Your JSP container
will need to be configured to enable remote JSP debugging using JDeveloper.</p>
JDeveloper allows you to use one of two protocols for JSP debugging - the
Oracle Java Virtual Machine (OJVM) debugging protocol or the Sun Java Platform
Debugging Architecture (JPDA). Before you start your remote debugging session,
you will have to choose which method to use. If you use the OJVM protocol, your
debugging session will run more quickly and you will have some additional features
to assist you. You can only use OJVM on a Windows NT system. If your server
is running UNIX or another operating system, you <strong>must</strong> use the
"classic" JVM.</p>
<strong>Setting up your project for remote JSP debugging</strong></p>
Once you have created a JSP project, you need to set your project options
so that remote debugging is enabled: </p>
<ol>
From the <strong><u>P</u>roject</strong> menu, select <strong><u>P</u>roject
Properties</strong>. </p>
</li>
Click the <strong>Run/Debug</strong> tab.</p>
</li>
From <strong><u>D</u>ebug Files As:</strong> dropdown list, select <strong>Remote
Debugging</strong>. </p>
</li>
Click <strong>OK</strong>. </p>
</li>
</ol>
<strong>Configuring the Remote Server</strong></p>
The following options must be changed on the host running the Apache/Jserv
server. These instructions assume the server is running Windows NT: </p>
<strong>Changes to jserv.properties</strong></p>
These options control which Java Virtual Machine is used and how it is loaded.
</p>
<ol>
For <em>The Java Virtual Machine interpreter</em> parameter <tt>wrapper.bin</tt>:
</p>
</li>
<ul>
[*]Comment out any existing entries by putting a <tt>#</tt> at the beginning
of the line.
<blockquote>
<pre>#wrapper.bin=C:\java1.1.8\bin\java.exe</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
[*]Add a new entry with the full path of the <tt>java.exe</tt> that you want
to use. To use the JDeveloper 1.3 OJVM, put
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.bin=C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\java1.2\bin\java.exe</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
</ul>
For the <em>Arguments passed to Java interpreter</em> parameter <tt>wrapper.bin.parameters</tt>:
The value you put for this parameter depends on which Debugging Protocol
you will choose in the <strong>Remote Debugging Dialog</strong> in JDeveloper
when you start debugging.</p>
</li>
<ul>
[*] If you want to use the JDeveloper 3.2 OJVM, put </li>
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.bin.parameters=-ferrari -XXdebugondemandquietport4000</pre>
</blockquote>
[*]If you want to use Java Platform Debugging Architecture, put
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.bin.parameters=-classic -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=4000 -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE</pre>
</blockquote>
The <tt>4000</tt> parameter defines the port number which the JDeveloper
debugger will use to communicate with the server. You can specify a different
port number, but it must match the port which you will enter in the <strong>Remote
Debugging Dialog</strong> in JDeveloper when you start debugging. </p>
</li>
</ul>
[*] For the <em>PATH environment value passed to the JVM</em> parameter <tt>wrapper.path</tt>
enter the location of <tt>jdwp.dll</tt>, which is part of the <em>Java Platform
Debugging Architecture</em>.
This parameter is only necessary if you will choose the <em>Java Platform
Debugging Architecture</em> debugging protocol:</p>
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.path=C:\jpda\bin</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
For the <em>CLASSPATH environment value passed to the JVM</em> parameter
<tt>wrapper.classpath</tt>: </p>
<ul>
Keep the location of <tt>ApacheJServ.jar</tt>. If it is not already
there, add it. </p>
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.classpath=C:\Program Files\Apache\JServ\ApacheJServ.jar</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
Comment out the location of <tt>jsdk.jar</tt>. </p>
<blockquote>
<pre>#wrapper.classpath=C:\jsdk2.0\lib\jsdk.jar</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
[*]Add the location of <tt>servlet.jar</tt> from JDeveloper 3.2.
<blockquote>
<pre>wrapper.classpath=C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\lib\servlet.jar</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
[*] Add the locations of <code>jdeveloper.zip</code> and <code>ojsp.jar</code>
from JDeveloper.
<blockquote>
<pre>
wrapper.classpath=C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\lib\jdeveloper.zip
wrapper.classpath=C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\lib\ojsp.jar
</pre>
</blockquote>
</ul>
</ol>
<strong>Changes to jserv.conf</strong></p>
<ol>
For the <em>ApJServAction</em> parameter: </p>
<ul>
[*] Comment out any existing <tt>ApJServAction .jsp</tt> entries by putting
a <tt>#</tt> at the beginning of the line. </li>
<blockquote>
<pre>
#ApJServAction .jsp /servlets/org.gjt.jsp.JSPServlet
</pre>
</blockquote>
[*]Add a new <tt>ApJServAction .jsp</tt> entry like this.
<blockquote>
<pre>
ApJServAction .jsp /servlets/oracle.jsp.JspServlet
</pre>
</blockquote>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ol>
<strong>Changes to zone.properties</strong></p>
<ol>
In the <em>Servlet Init Parameters</em> section: </p>
</li>
<ul>
Add the following lines. </p>
<pre>
servlet.oracle.jsp.JspServlet.initArgs=emit_debuginfo=true
servlet.oracle.jsp.JspServlet.initArgs=jspcompiler=oracle.jdeveloper.jsp.JspOjcCompiler
servlet.oracle.jsp.JspServlet.initArgs=classpath=C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\java1.3\jre\lib\rt.jar
</pre>
</li>
</ul>
</ol>
<strong>Copying the JSP to the Apache/Jserv Server</strong></p>
Once you have restarted the server with the modified parameters, you need to
copy your JSP to the server's HTML root directory. For most Apache installations
this is <tt>C:\Program Files\Apache\htdocs</tt>. </p>
You also need to make sure the JSP is in your HTML directory in the JDeveloper
tree, typically <tt>C:\Program Files\Oracle\JDeveloper 3.2\myHTML</tt>. The
reason for this is JDeveloper uses the folder name as its package name.</p>
<strong>Debugging a JSP</strong></p>
Debugging a JSP is very similar to debugging any other Java program.</p>
<ol>
From the <strong><u>R</u>un</strong> menu, select <strong><u>D</u>ebug
"<em>filename</em>.jsp"</strong>. </p>
Start the JSP running (for example, start your web browser and open a
connection to the JSP). </p>
Debug as normal. </p>
</ol>
If you are using the JDeveloper OJVM debugging protocol, you will be able
to disconnect from the JSP container. This allows you to stop debugging, but
leave the JSP container running. In addition, you will be able to use two extra
debugging functions that are not available using the JDPA protocol - <strong>Run
to End of Method</strong> and <strong>Set Next Statement</strong>.</p>
If you using JPDA, you must use <strong>Stop</strong> to end your debugging.
Using this method will also stop the JSP container.</p>
<blockquote>
<strong></strong></p>
</blockquote>
nullHi,
It again same as you do in your local server...You can monitor the BPEL process flow in the em console and debug..if its not sufficient....u can also monitor the logs located at
<SOA_Home>\user_projects\domains\domain1\servers\soa_server1\logs to debug. -
How to debug serlvet and EJB using IDE
Anybody knows how to debug Servlet and EJB through standard IDE, like
Symantec or VisualAge? Does the attach to process works?
Thanks.1) Download and install the jpda package from sun (Java Platform Debugger
Architecture, it contains the jdwp.dll, this has to be in your %PATH%
variable).
2) Start weblogic with something like this:
%JDK_HOME%\bin\java -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y
,address=8000 -ms64m -mx64m -Xbootclasspath:%JAVACLASSPATH% -classpath
%WEBLOGICHOME%\classes\boot -Dweblogic.class.path=%WEBLOGICCLASSPATH% -Dwebl
ogic.home=%WEBLOGICHOME% -Dweblogic.system.name=MyServer -Djava.security.man
ager -Djava.security.policy==%WEBLOGICHOME%\weblogic.policy weblogic.Server
3) address is the portnumber (in this example 8000) for the remote debugger.
Attach to the VM with arguments -host <hostname> -port <address>

Debug Program scheduled Background
Re: Debugging Report which is scheduled in background
3 types update,normal and system debugging
check this for update debugging
If you set "Update Debbugging" you can debug the codes which works in update tusk.
SAP std often runs the routine (function or form) to update the database in update tusk mode, these routine start as soon as a commit work is done.
The commit is called at the end of the program, so you can't debug them by "normal debbugging" because it ends as soon as the program ends
or----
All the database updates are performed by the update work processes by calling the functions/subroutines in update tasks.
These tasks are executed after a commit work is reached in the application. By default you cannot debug these functions.
TO debug these u need to explicitly activate update debugging.
for system debugging check the below link

http://www.sap-basis-abap.com/sapab002.htm
System Debugging
If you set this option, the Debugger is also activated for system programs (programs with status S in their program attributes). When you save breakpoints, the System Debugging setting is also saved.
Update Debugging
Update function modules do not run in the same user session as the program that is currently running in the ABAP Debugger. These function modules are therefore not included in debugging. Only if you select the Update Debugging option can you display and debug them after the COMMIT WORK.
Normal Debugging
Normal debugging is the one we do it by the normal dynamic break points or by /H or by using stattic break points.
You can switch to diffferent debuggin modes while processing.
BREAKPOINT
In the source code we set the Break-point there by clicking the stop button, the system will stop there when you execute the program.
Watchpoint
For watchpoints, we need to give some condition and when this condition is satisfied, program will stop
example : if you want to debug only
for matnr value 100 than set watch point
matnr = 100. when value reaches 100 than
program stops at that point.

at weblogic.work.ExecuteThread.run(ExecuteThread.java:172)Hello,
Debugging a JSP using a stack trace is made possible by using the keepgenerated element of the jsp-descriptor element in your web app descriptor in WEB-INF/weblogic.xml. The working-dir and verbose elements are also of interest.
You can edit weblogic.xml or you can use the Oracle WebLogic Server console to configure your web app. In the console you would go to "Deployments", find your web app, select the "Configuration" tab, Lock & Edit, and do your thing. The settings you are interested in are "Debug Enabled", "JSP Keep Generated", and "JSP Verbose". I'm not sure which weblogic.xml element the "Debug Enabled" corresponds to, but it might be something like the debug-enabled element of the session-descriptor element.
I can never remember where JSP generated servlet source code files end up if I have not specified a working dir. They end up buried DEEPLY. I just search the file system in my workspace for the generated files. For example, I just found the generated source for my helloOne.jsp in:
C:\bea_wlp102\user_projects\workspaces\frmwrk\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0\frmwrk_domain\work\MyWAR\jsp_servlet\_portlets\__helloone.java -
How to debug weblogic console extension application ?
Hi,
I am developing a weblogic console extension application with web logic portal framework, I got some error, but no idea how to debug,
I can see some error on buildApplication.jsp file, but can't find __buildapplication.java file which is compiled from buildApplication.jsp,
so I can't know the error is in which line in buildApplication.jsp file. and I dont' even know which tag is tag1 tag2 tag3 in that jsp file.

and to add to matt's post:
in the servlet init() method trace out some debug to ensure that new
versions of your servlet are actually being deployed:
..init() {
System.out.println( getServletName() + " was deployed at " + " new
Date(System.currentTimeMillis()) );

Debug 2 servlets at the same time please help!!!!
I am using JDeveloper 3.1 and trying to Debug 2 servlets at the same time. I can debug either servlet individually, but I cannot seem to call Servlet 2 from Servlet1 while debugging. I keep getting Web-to-go cannot find URL. What am I doing wrong.
Whenever I run a servlet in the debugger, the url shows: http://<myserver>/servlets/servlet regardless of the name of the servlet.
How do I debug 2 servlets at the same time.Hi,
It depends on how you call the second servlet from the first. You want to make sure to use a relative URL.
For example, if both of your compiled servlet classes are in JDEV_HOME\myclasses\ServletProject, then make sure to call servlet2 from servlet1 directly. If servlet2 is in JDEV_HOME\myclasses\OtherServlets, then you want to use '..\OtherServlets\servlet2'
I'm not sure why it resolves the url to servlets\servlet for everything. -

How to debug web app with weblogic?
I wrote a web app that includes jsp files and some javabeans, then I put the jsp files to directory
mydomain\applications\DefaultWebApp
then I complied javabeans and put those classes to
mydomain\applications\DefaultWebApp\WEB-INF\classes
Then I start the weblogic,it runs very well.
I modified some javabean, complie them and put classes override the old classes,
but the web app can not find the new classes.
Any one know How to debug web app(with javabeans) in weblogic?
thanks!how to config the hot deploy?
thxSorry, for this delay in responding. I had set notify me with email option in Watch This topic; but I never did get any email notification.
I use wls6.1; I think the process may be very similar to this in wls8.x. In wls6.1 (sp5), this is done via the -
Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False or
Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=True
in the startup cmd/sh script. Out of the box, wls6.1 is set to Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=False which automatically enables hot deploys. -
