How to display utf8 characters in sql developer

Is there a setting I need to change in sql developer in order to display utf8 characters?
I am seeing weird characters when displaying chinise/arabic characters in sql developer. I can display the same data just fine in Putty ( I changed the following setting in putty before I was able to display utf8 characters ok: Windows->Translation and selected UTF8) .
Thanks,
SK

*1. OS version and oracle version*
Windows XP Professional/Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
*2. NLS settings for the database*

*3. Output from sqlplus showing the UTF8 characters*

يونی‌کُد چيست؟.utf8
*4. Same output from SQLDeveloper*

    I am displaying records which is contain Chinese characters.
    But it is not displayed properly in Oralce.
    How to change the settings to display Chinese characters?
    Thanks

    It could be possible to display Chinese characters using SQL Developer without any specific NLS_LANG setting because SQL Developer is using JDBC which doesn't use NLS_LANG setting according to When is NLS_LANG used ?.
    For example, I'm able to display the following Chinese character in SQL Developer 1.2.0 on Windows XP Pro with French Windows setting and NLS_LANG set in Windows registry to FRENCH_FRANCE.WE8ISO8859P1.
    select unistr('\8349') from dual;

  • How to set Weblogic 5.1 server to display UTF8 characters

    Hi all,
    Does anybody know how to set up Weblogic 5.1 server in order to display UTF8
    characters such as Japanese characters?
    I am able to display utf8 in Tomcat but not in Weblogic. All I did for
    Tomcat is to change the content type of the servlets.
    Thank you for your help.

    DO you have servlets which print utf-8 data to the client?
    If yes then you can just call response.setContentType("text/html;
    charset=UTF-8");
    and the response will look as expected.
    for jsps :
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" %> should do the trick.

  • How to display special characters in APEX Classic Report column

    Ref: Thread: How to display newline characters as new lines
    Version: APEX 3.2
    Hi,
    I have created an classic SQL Report with one of the columns being a decode that gives a value 'Post'(the value should be highlighted in Red) on one condition and 'Pre' on another. I have followed the advice given in the page (URL provided above) , i.e. I have changed Strip HTML to 'No', changed Display as to 'Display as text (escape special characters, does not save state)'. I have also passed this value back to the same page to be stored in a page item each time a link (another column in report) in report is clicked. I have tried passing it as #DEADLINE# and \#DEADLINE#\. The issue I face is, instead of the value being highlighted in Red, it gets passed back as a string holding the value 'Post'. Is there any way I can get this to display as it should without the Strip HTML being changed to 'Yes'.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
    I am trying to display a page item that is derived from a report column based on a click on the URL link (*view >*>)
    This page item (here, it is Manager_ID) should ideally be highlighted when a particular condition is satisfied (achieved using a DECODE in the report).
    But it is not displayed like it should be.
    I do not want the value to be displayed along with the html tags as a string.
    I want the html tags to take effect and highlight the value within it.
    Initially, I had set Strip HTML to Yes and the value was returned without any highlighting .
    So I changed it to 'No' and and it contained the html tags.
    I am not sure what setting in APEX Report Attributes can help me achieve that effect I want.None of the report settings are relevant. They affect the rendering of the report and none of the columns you were changing the properties of were actually rendered.
    You can't pass HTML and CSS around in URL parameters.
    I suggest you pass *2* values in the column link: the MGR ID and a simple class or colour value computed by the DECODE in the report. I've suppressed the first version of the report and created a new one that does this:
    decode(dept.deptno, '30', 'c00', '000') highlight The link column now passes the MGR ID and the HIGHLIGHT colour (red when the condition is satisfied and black when it is not).
    I created another hidden and protected page item <tt>P0_HIGHLIGHT</tt> as the target for the highlight value, and used the Pre/Post Element Text properties of the <tt>P0_G_MGR</tt> to wrap it in a <tt>span</tt> whose colour is changed using the <tt>P0_HIGHLIGHT</tt> value as a subtitution string:
    <span style="color: #&P0_HIGHLIGHT.;">Having done that, I still don't really get the requirement here. I'm sure that given the full picture I'd be using a completely different approach...

    Hi Prashant ,
      What special characters would you like to include .
    There are a set of characters / icons /symbols that can be included in Script , for that open a window in edit mode and in the menu there will be an option called Insert  , here you can find a lot of characters/symbols that can be included .

    ²Ý                 ----------------------------------------> Getting a junk character instead of chinese If I was using putty, are the above steps enough to get chinese characters displayed ?
    Our ssh client is Tectia (not putty).
    According the below ML Note, the SSH client has to configured correctly to use globalization features.
    +The correct NLS_LANG setting in Unix Environments [ID 264157.1]+
    Googling "Tectia + Chinese" didn't return useful results

    I understand that you are talking about Windows SSH Client.
    For Putty, you should set:
    $ export LANG=zh_CN.UTF-8
    $ export LC_ALL=zh_CN.UTF-8
    $ export NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.AL32UTF8"
    and configure Putty in Window->Translation to use UTF-8.
    There is nothing about this subject on Tectia website and in their manuals, so my best guess is that the client requires Windows code page to work correctly. In such case you need to set your Windows system default locale (locale for non-Unicode programs) to Chinese and use the following settings on the server:
    $ export LANG=zh_CN.GBK
    $ export LC_ALL=zh_CN.GBK
    $ export NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK"
    Verify with 'locale -a' that the setting zh_CN.GBK is supported on your system.

  • How To version a Schema in SQL Developer?

    How To version a Schema in SQL Developer? Is there any open source tool for windows? I used a trial version of Source Control for Oracle by Red Gate. But i am looking for a free tool or way around? Like we do versioning in Jdeveloper?Any help in this regard would be much appreciated.

    SQL Developer supports e.g. Subversion out of the box.
    Open Sql Developer Help and search for "Versioning"
    Using Versioning
    SQL Developer provides integrated support for the Subversion and Git versioning and source control systems, and you can add support for other such systems as extensions by clicking Help, then Check for Updates. Available extensions include CVS (Concurrent Versions System) and Perforce.
    This is the part about support for versioning. The next step would be how you organize your workflow so every source is available in your repository.
    Maybe an online tutorial can help you: Using Source Code Control in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0

    Hi there, Have you fixed this issue?
    I'm having the same issue albeit with SQL Developer VERSION 1.5.5
    The Select stmt displays the the empty square boxes in the result window, I've set the encoding preferences to UTF8 in the menu and font to Arial Unicode (there is no option to set script to Japanese). How can i display japanese characters in the results window??
    When i export these empty square boxes in the result window to notepad (where encoding set to Unicode and Font set to Arial Unicode and Script to Japanese), the japanese value is displayed correctly in the notepad.
    Kindly provide some input

  • Oracle Report, How to Display Polish Characters in a PDF Output

    Environment :
    Oracle Application Server version 10.1.2.0.2 on Red Hat 4 Enterprise (Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 , 32 bit) Oracle Database Version 10.2.0.3.0 Our character set of database is UTF8
    I have trouble to display polish characters in Reports Output. We develop on Windows XP machines. I can see the Polish Caharacters in the Reports Builder using several fonts (arial, arial unicode, Times new roman, verdana...) during design time or when running with the paper layout. But when the report deployed to application server running on the linux, the polish characters are replaced by symbols.
    Even under Windows, when I select 'generate to a PDF' file option, the characters are not displayed correctly (When I open the generated PDF file with Acrobat reader and go to Document Properties / Fonts, I see the Fonts are always replaced with Adobe Sans MM)
    Using the Forms Applications running on the same application server we have no trouble dealing/displaying with the characters (Ąą ĆćĘę Ł ł ŃńÓóŚ ś Ź ź Ż ż ß Đ đ € )
    NLS_LANG setting is AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 on the Linux Box and AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1250 is on the Development machines. (have tried a number of different NLS_LANG settings on the development box as well with no luck).
    Any direction would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    You have several different approaches to fix this problem. First of all, you would be able to generate the PDF output with Font Subsetting setup and be able to see the Polish characters correctly when running the output with destype=cache&desformat=pdf. The following metalink documents would guide you with this setup :
    Note.207711.1 "How to Use Font Subsetting in Reports 9i and 10g for PDF Output"
    As at design time you use many different Windows specific fonts, I also advice you to check the following document :
    Note.356221.1 "A Practical Methodology on Porting Reports from Windows to Unix with Different Fonts"
    Once the PDF output is generated properly with correct characters, then if you need to use "destype=printer" for direct print, rather than "destype=cache" to display the output in browser, then you can use the "PDFPrint" pluggable destination, which is located in :
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/pluginxchange/index.html
