How to do a sitemap

Hey guys, i was reading online that submitting a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools is a good idea. But how do i go about doing so? Help is appreciated, thanks

The hidden page is a page that I added to the website but did not include in the navbar. With it's text based links to the other pages and being part of the website it allows the sitemap creator to access all of the pages from that page and create a site map.
For my Demo_2 site this is what the site map looks like. The first entry is the hidden page, SMP. The pages are in bold.

Since the content of a Wiki server is very dynamic, can the server generate a site map automatically?

I have created a DSN in a web server (a Public IP machine) that is mapped to a Oracle DB.
In my Excel using VBA coding, with the help of RDO object I will call the DSN in the Web server using the connection string like "DSN=ORS;UID=SDATA;PWD=SDATA;"
This is working fine and in this case the client machine doesn't need Oracle client to be installed or any TNS entry.
The user can run the Excel report by clicking a button and the click event connects the DSN in the web server (through its URL) and routes to the mapped DB and fetches the quried data.
Please note that the above DSN is created based on Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
But the issue is using the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver I couldnt call the SP with Ref Cursor.
When I searched in Internet I came to know using the provider oraoledb.oracle we can call SP that uses REF CURSOR.
Now my question is what is the driver name that I can use to create a DSN to make use of the provider oraoledb.oracle for calling the SP with REF CURSOR from Excel VBA coding ?

I've recently added a sitemap to my site using the .xml
extension as was suggested by the
suppliers. Two questions;
a) Is it necessary to use this format or would a simple .htm
file do? And if the answer to this is yes, you must use .xml
b) How can I format the text for if/when viewers may visit

No you don't have to make a sitemap for every page but for every site.
You just have to insert this url

And it will create a sitemap of your website which you can download as a .xml file and then put on your server.
But there is one inconvenient: google and the tool for making a sitemap are not able to look through your navigation bar because it's java-rendering-script so they would just look at your home.html file and then stop. What you could/should do is place a second nav bar on the bottom of your page (text field with simple text links to the pages in the nav bar => Home, Klangbeispiele, Biographien, Kontakt) like I did here http://alyeska.altervista.org/de/Willkommen.html . Google and the sitemap editor will be able to follow this links and get the whole homepage. It will not take a long time to do this, you just have to do it once then copy&paste to the four pages included in the navbar. Then create the sitemap as I said before. Once you have created and downloaded the xml file you could open it with safari and see if alle the urls in your website are in the map if yes everything worked if not then something went wrong. Upload it, link it in the Google Webmaster Tools and gogle will ask to verify that it's your website/url.
When you know how to make a sitemap and you update your site adding new pages it will not take you a lot of time anymore.
I think the sitemap is useful, I really do. Nevertheless it will take some time for your pages to appear in google.

Detailed Tree Navigation

Friends,
I have to develop a custom detailed tree navigation wich will start at the first level.
In our new design the Top Level Navigation doesn't exists.
The initial nodes will start collapsed.
I think I'll have to create a new jsp but I'm new at portal customization.
Can anyone have some example or tutorial that can help me in this task ?

1) Develop Navigation tree via JSP - using NavigationTagLibrary Taglibs - Please refer to the following blogs by Sven Kannengiesser, the provided example demostrate the usage of the NavigationTagLibrary and the sucker fish drop down.
EFP: Working with the new Taglibs - Part 3
2) Develop Navigation tree via AbstractPortalComponent - You can find code example in NWDS's help content on how to builde a Sitemap. This sample shows how to use portal services to populate navigation node. You can blend in your HTML, CSS and JS on top of this sample to create your detailed navigation.
From the NWDS menu bar -> Help Contents ->SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Documentation ->Portal Development Manual->Go and Create->Creating a Site Map
3) Develop Navigation tree via Webdynpro - Using Portal Services - com.sapportals.portal.navigation.INavigationService to get portal navigation node and bind these node to webdynpro Tree UI.

Google verification not using iDisk

I have been trying to get my website verified by google and have had no luck and getting very frustrated. I am not using iDisk, so all of the tutorials that I have found online are not helpful. I am uploading my site using FTP. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

How to build a Table of Contents from a Sitemap

I have a large 250+ page website for which I need to build a Table of Contents so that visitors can see the site as a whole based on the Title information. Is this possible in DW CS4? Or can it be built through a Sitemap?

SiteStudio comes with SiteMap fragments. Change the page template so it is a document type XML, add the fragment and you're practiacally done.

How to test sitemaps in development environment (atg)

I am trying to generate sitemaps and sitemapindex files for our application. We completed all the configuration level changes like configuring StemapGenerators and SitemapIndexGenerator in SitemapGeneratorService and also able to write all sitemaps (staticsitemaps.xml, productSitemap.xml and categorySitemaps.xml) in application war file in dev environment. So, How can we test these sitemaps in development environment ? Is there any tools to test these sitemaps ?
What is the process to test these sitemaps which are generated in dev environment ?
Could you please suggest me the process of testing the sitemaps ?

If you already set the components for generation of sitemaps, Oracle ATG Web Commerce - Configuring Sitemap Generation.
You can access /atg/sitemap/SitemapGeneratorService and run the generateSitemaps.
Thus sitemaps will be generated and you can check which generated accessing /atg/sitemap/SitemapRepository and clicking the List All Items, see Oracle ATG Web Commerce - Configuring Sitemap Writing.
If you still want to try to generate the sitemaps to a file, configure the component /atg/sitemap/SitemapWriterService, in warDir property, set a diretory of your machine/PC/server and then run the writeSitemapFiles.

Previously we spoke when you transferred ourdomain to Adobe and I was under the impression that the SEO was done auto by ADobe. At that time i instructed my SEO guy to discontinue submitting the site to search engines so I would not be duplicating the submissions.

That really is a load of nonsense at the end of the day.
There is a lot to SEO but there is one basic principle...
Search engines send out search bots that crawl websites. They come across this in a variety of ways (more later). At your site it looks for all the information/points and ranks you accordingly.
A search bot can come across you via a link on another website or through registration or knowledge that you exist. So having external links or registering the site with web master tools etc.
In terms of crawling your site and the rate it does that can be based on having web master tools and other natural factors like dynamic content, new link linked to an article or blog post etc.
To aide a bot with going through your site you do your internal SEO of course so it has a nice easy job of it, set up robots.txt and of course sitemap.xml and so on.
The sitemap is updated overnight so basically every day.

I've textwrangler, textedit and office. They open the file, but to save it as a sitemap.xml is not working. When I preview it online the code is not rendering.
Which software do I use to open this file and save as plain sitemap.xml to upload to my host and submit to the search engines.
By the way, preferably a really free software, not a trial one since I've no money to buy one+pointless to buy one to use only once.

I'll try to explain myself better. With either sitemap generators I'm using online:

They build the sitemap nicely. I don't need to edit it, just download or copy the code and save as xml.
When I download the code, it has the Final Cut (I've it installed) as the open the file as default.
I'm assuming it is happening since I do not have a suitable software to open and save the file with.
There are endless sitemap generators online, but I've to save them as sitemap.xml and upload to my host, to submit it to the search engines.
It is not a new process, I do believe that they start this way of submitting your website about 3/4 years ago.
I did not use iWeb to build my website since it uses iFrame.
The softwares you mentioned above are not free and I don't need to edit my Sitemap.
Only to save it as Sitemap.xml and upload to my host.
I'm trying version tracker as recommended above, but xml editors are not easy to use + plus most are trial software.
Doesn't mac have an application to open and save this kind of file?
Or maybe you could direct me to another forum where I could post my dumb question. Thank you.

I was asked to create a sitemap for one site and I had to do it the hard way. I had to upload the site, went to an online xml sitemap generator, generate the xml file and upload it.
But I was wondering whether DW has an option to generate an xml sitemap of the site offline?
