How to dynmatically create textbox using Javascript?

Question

Hi ALL,
I did some googling but didnt found any success so posting thread into this forum, I have javascript something like this:-
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
function mandatory()
var temp = document.getElementById('P3_STUDENT_NAME');
if(temp.value != '')
alert("student name is " +temp.value);
else
alert("you don't have any student name");
</script>
and selected BUTTON target as URL with URL Target as:- "javascript:mandatory();"
Upto here its working fine now I want to dynamically create textbox and keep into <b>ELSE</b> part where user can enter value.
Canbody tell me any hint or good example link which can help me out.

I tried somthing like this:-

var r = confirm("Press a button!")
if(r==true)
P3_STUDENT_NAME = P3_STUDENT_NAME; //This is dump thing I'm aware
else
//do nothing
else
//$x_ShowItemRow('P3_STUDENT_NAME_NEW')
var r = prompt("Enter your value","");
if(r != NULL && r!= "")
P3_STUDENT_NAME_NEW = r;
else
//do nothing
</script>
so now I how should I use <b>$x_ShowItemRow('P3_STUDENT_NAME_NEW')</b> under prompt window such that the user's enters some value into text_box & that value is passed to the pl/sql process(it has insert statement as below) which I have written under Processes section under Page Processing :-

insert into STUDENT_NAME (student_id, student_name)

any idea how to approach it??
