Notice the similarity? You've now asked "How to delete a record in Java" and "how to execute a select statement in java". You may have noticed that, aside from the SQL and the call to execute and executeUpdate (for delete) it's the same code. This is because you don't so much do these things in Java, you do them in SQL. The Java code simply asks the Driver to execute whatever SQL you write. So, I really hope your next post isn't "how do I execute an UPDATE statement in Java".

  • How to execute a select statement in unix shell script

    Hi,
    How to execute the below statement in unix shell .
    select count( ID) into v_count from tbl_data1
    where ID =V_ID;
    thanks
    BCJ

    Thanks for the reply.
    few more doubts,
    the V_ID value is a user input getting inside the unix script, so how can i pass the value in to the a.sql.
    also needs the v_count value inside the unix script for further process.actual requirement is like,
    declare
    v_count number;
    begin
    select count( ID) into v_count from tbl_data1
    where ID =$V_ID;
    if v_count>1 then
    process 1;
    else
    process2;
    end if;
    end;

  • How to test the select statement.

    Hi All,
    How to test the select statement.
    Is there any Oracle sqlplus  or toad kind of tool to  test the query.
    thanks
    siva

    Use SQL Trace (ST05) and choose 'Explain one SQL Request'. Enter your SQL command as it should be executed in the underlying database. e.g. if the db is Oracle, the statement should be entered as:
    SELECT matnr,werks,lvorm,dispo
    FROM marc
    WHERE mandt = :a AND
                 matnr = :b AND
                 werks = :c
    In the above :a, :b and :c are place holders for the actual comparison values. You dont have to enter those values. When you choose 'Explain' button, you will find the 'Execution Plan'. The important parameter which denotes the efficiency of the SQL statement is the 'Cost'. The cost should be as low as possible. The table access should be through INDEX UNIQUE SCAN. If you get a FULL TABLE SCAN and higher cost, you need to fine-tune your statement by modifying the where clause.
    If you dont know Oracle SQL statements, execute the program in trace mode and go to the trace and you will find the underlying SQL statements issued to the database.

  • Execute A select statement under Oracle connection?

    Hi,
    How can i execute a select statement
    under an existing Oracle connecton without
    defining extera JDBC connection.

    Be aware that you can create View Objects that are NOT based on entity objects. In this case, they are read only, but if you just want to display results, or check for a specific value, it at least reduces the overhead of an EO.
    I'm not sure that answers the question here, but thought I would at least throw it out there.
    In the View Object wizard, on the page that asks you to choose an EO, just click Next without selecting any EOs. This will automatically put you in expert query mode. Just type in your query and go.
    You do have to be a little careful with expert mode queries, especially if you go back and edit them later. You need to make sure to keep the attribute mapping in synch on the Attribute page.
    Also, I have found some limitations to this approach, which I'm not sure are fixed in 3.2. Namely, you can't use setWhereClause() to set the entire where clause string from the client. You have to use setWhereClauseParams(). This means that you have to have the basic where clause included in the query and user parameters as placeholders for the where clause values. These are JSP methods, I'm not sure what the equivalent is in DAC, but I am pretty sure the same limitation is there.

  • How to optimize this select statement  its a simple select....

    how to optimize this select statement  as the records in earlier table is abt i million
    and this simplet select statement is not executing and taking lot of time
      SELECT  guid
                    stcts
      INTO table gt_corcts
      FROM   corcts
      FOR all entries in gt_mege
      WHERE  /sapsll/corcts~stcts = gt_mege-ctsex
      and /sapsll/corcts~guid_pobj = gt_Sagmeld-guid_pobj.
    regards
    Arora

    Hi Arora,
    Using Package size is very simple and you can avoid the time out and as well as the problem because of memory.  Some time if you have too many records in the internal table, then you will get a short dump called TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED.
    Below is the sample code.
    DATA p_size = 50000
    SELECT field1 field2 field3
       INTO TABLE itab1 PACKAGE SIZE p_size
       FROM dtab
       WHERE <condition>
    Other logic or process on the internal table itab1
    FREE itab1.
    ENDSELECT.
    Here the only problem is you have to put the ENDSELECT.
    How it works
    In the first select it will select 50000 records ( or the p_size you gave).  That will be in the internal table itab1.
    In the second select it will clear the 50000 records already there and append next 50000 records from the database table.
    So care should be taken to do all the logic or process with in select and endselect.
    Some ABAP standards may not allow you to use select-endselect.  But this is the best way to handle huge data without short dumps and memory related problems.
    I am using this approach.  My data is much more huge than yours.  At an average of atleast 5 millions records per select.
    Good luck and hope this help you.

  • How to execute dynamic if statement...

    Hi All,
    My PL/SQL Blocks looks like this
    declare
    i_string :='if 3>20 then 1 else 2 end if;' varchar2(100);
    begin
    end;
    Between begin and end i want a piece of code which executes that if statement and sends 2 as output in dbms_output.put_line since 3 is not >20 .Basically i want to know how to execute dynamic if statement.Please help
    Thanks,
    Preethi

    Hi,
    i agree with Cyn. Dynamic SQL is often a bad idea. Try to avoid it.
    Dynamic PL/SQL is even worse. If you really must do something dynamic, at least try to cast it as SQL rather than PL/SQL.
    Does this do what you want?
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION     eval_case
    (     in_txt     IN     VARCHAR2
    RETURN     NUMBER
    DETERMINISTIC
    IS
         return_val     NUMBER;
         sql_txt          VARCHAR2 (1000);
    BEGIN
         sql_txt := 'SELECT  CASE '
              ||           in_txt
              || '         END'
              || '  FROM  dual';
         EXECUTE IMMEDIATE sql_txt INTO return_val;
         RETURN     return_val;
    END     eval_case;
    SHOW ERRORSYou might use the function above like this:
    declare
         i_string  varchar2(100) :='WHEN 3>20 THEN 1 ELSE 2';
    begin
         dbms_output.put_line (  TO_CHAR (eval_case (i_string))
                        || ' = results of eval_case ('''
                        || i_string
                        || ''')'
    end;

  • How to speed a select statement with the NOT EXISTS where condition ?

    Hi all,
    I created a view : create or replace view view_name as select * from table_1,table_2 where join_condition and some conditions.
    Now I have added in the view "where" clause two NOT EXISTS conditions based on one another different table respectively.
    Before I added these two conditions the response time was fast ; but after I added these two conditions then the response time deteriorated.
    So how to optimize the select statement ? Hints and so on ...

  • Executing a DDL statement from java code

    Hi all,
    this is code from jdev11.1.1.3 version. I am trying to execute a DDL statement in oracle db from java code, but "ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement" error is coming.
    I am trying to create a table in same schema in same db by using 'Copy' command.
    Same DDL command is executing from sql command prompt & table is being created. Plz help me , as how to do from java?
            public String cmb_action() {
            // Add event code here...
            try {
                //getting source db connection
                InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext();

    I have a requirement to transfer data from one db to another db from Java Application Layer.Maybe, maye not. We get all sorts of weird "requirements" - which are nothing but thoughts or proposed solutions.
    But,
    Did the "requirement" mention whether the table existed already or not in the target database? - If not, did it tell you to create it - drop/create it?
    Did the "requirement" deliver some explanation to why this copying was neeeded? - Are we talking replication? - Or a one time cloning?
    Etc, etc,
    Personally I would always argue against a "reuirement" like that. - It just isn't the way to do it. Period.
    Regards
    Peter
    P.S: If you are satisfied with what COPY does, then you could let Java make an OS call and do it from there?

  • How to use a select statement with chinese characters?

    I am currently developing a java servlet<using tomcat 4.x> which allows me to use select statement to retrieve results from the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. I am using a simple form to get the parameter for querying. The main problem i'm facing is that there are chinese information in the SQL database, but i can't retrieve it through the sql statement with the chinese characters input<thru the form with the help of NJ STAR>in the WHERE condition. When i execute the statement, it returns me no results even though the rows are present in the database.
    Does anyone have the solution to using chinese words in the WHERE clause of the select statement to retrieve results with columns which contains chinese characters? Please help me. Thanks everyone. :)
    PS: when i cut and paste those characters in the sql database and paste onto java.. it is ??? in questionmarks.. but when i paste them into excel 2000.. its shown as chinese chars again..
    please heelppp~~

    Greetings,
    PS: when i cut and paste those characters in thesql
    database and paste onto java.. it is ??? in
    questionmarks.. but when i paste them into excelThis is why the SELECT is not returning any results.
    You need to set the character encoding set on your
    statement and parameters for the characters to be
    properly translated. Refer to the charsetName
    parameter in the String class constructor in your API
    docs and also to
    $JDK_DOCS/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html in your JDK
    documentation.
    2000.. its shown as chinese chars again..Because Office programs are performing the same kind
    of character translation with the appropriate MS APIs.

    pardon my shallow knowledge of java..
    ok..
    The thing is when i used an insert statement with chinese characters of GBK format hardcoded into the java servlet and then i use the insert statement to insert the chars into the database, it cannot be seen as a chinese word when i off the NJStar. and then it can be searched out with my current form of servlet.. below is my coding of the servlet..

  • How to execute a select query stored in variable

    Hello  helpers ,
    I have some "select queries" stored in the database . Now I can derive this query in some variable . How do I execute this query from the variable .
    example :
    Data Query type char50 .
    QueryVar = 'Select MATNR from MBEW where BWKEY = '0001' . '
    How do I execute this Query stoored in variable QueryVar in ABAP program ?
    Thanks a lot for helping .
    Regards
    Shashank

    Shashank,
    It is also possible to use (column_syntax) and (dbtab_syntax) together with (cond_syntax) when using SELECT statements in ABAP. For more info on (column_syntax) and (dbtab_syntax) just have a quick look at ABAP Keyword documention on SELECT statement (hit F1 on SELECT then scroll down to Select->Select result->Select Columns....)
    So in your case, you need to separate out (split) the value in 'wa_itab-query' into other variables or append into separate internal tables using common keys etc. - then looping at those tables with the common key (READ TABLE WITH KEY....) use the following syntax at the time of triggering the SELECT query:
    SELECT (column_syntax)
           FROM (dbtab_syntax)
           WHERE (cond_syntax).
    Also worth a look at this example below:
    PARAMETERS: p_cityfr TYPE spfli-cityfrom,
                p_cityto TYPE spfli-cityto.
    DATA: BEGIN OF wa,
             fldate TYPE sflight-fldate,
             carrname TYPE scarr-carrname,
             connid   TYPE spfli-connid,
           END OF wa.
    DATA itab LIKE SORTED TABLE OF wa
                   WITH UNIQUE KEY fldate carrname connid.
    DATA: column_syntax TYPE string,
          dbtab_syntax TYPE string.
    column_syntax = `c~carrname p~connid f~fldate`.
    dbtab_syntax = `( ( scarr AS c `
      & ` INNER JOIN spfli AS p ON p~carrid  = c~carrid`
      & ` AND p~cityfrom = p_cityfr`
      & ` AND p~cityto   = p_cityto )`
      & ` INNER JOIN sflight AS f ON f~carrid = p~carrid `
      & ` AND f~connid = p~connid )`.
    SELECT (column_syntax)
           FROM (dbtab_syntax)
           INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE itab.
    LOOP AT itab INTO wa.
      WRITE: / wa-fldate, wa-carrname, wa-connid.
    ENDLOOP.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to execute multiple sql statements in parallel ?

    Hi There,
    I have 10 stored procedures, each one will take approximately 5 seconds to run individually.
    Now I need to combine the results of these 10 stored procedures into single result set.
    So I have created one more stored procedure "proc_AllSPs" to get the single result set.
    The procedure "proc_AllSPs" is taking one minute to run because all the procedures inside the "proc_AllSPs" are running
    one after the other and taking 5 seconds each.
    If there is any other way that all the procedures run parallelly, then the procedure "proc_AllSPs" can run in 5 seconds time.
    Sorry if I am not being elaborated.
    PLease get back to me if any piece of information is needed.
    Any kind of help is truly thankful.
    Thanks,
    SequelBug

    Could you tell me how to execute two stored procedures or two sql statements in parallel
    For eg:
    First procedure name is proc_sp1 which takes 1 minute to run
    Second procedure name is proc_sp2 which takes 1 minute to run
    I want to accomplish the below query in 1 minute by executing statement1 and statement2 parallelly.
    go
