How to execute 'alter system....' in PL/SQL

How can i execute a SQL of system control such as "alter system ...." in my form
application?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Try using the builtin forms_ddl.
For example:
forms_ddl('alter system ....');
You can use this in any procedure or trigger you want.
Hope this helps!

    Can anyone tell me how to execute this query in java.
    I tried this by using executeQuery but it was giving a sexception somtehing as follows
    COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.DB2Exception: [IBM][JDBC Driver] CLI0637E QUERY cannot be found.
         at COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.SQLExceptionGenerator.throwInvalidQueryError(SQLExceptionGenerator.java:577)

    You need a connection to use JDBC stuff. When you have a connection, you are already logged in. There is no need for a query to connect.

  • Can I execute "Alter System Disconnect Session" in a OLE VB Script?

    Will this work? If not - How to do it?
    The speadsheet contains a list of sid's and serial#. I want to highlight a cell containing a username, then run the kill session macro on it.
    Sub Kill_Session()
    Dim KillStatement As Object
    DBPassword = "uuuu/pppppppp"
    DatabaseName = "dddd"
    Set objSession = CreateObject("OracleInProcServer.XOraSession")
    Set objdatabase = objSession.opendatabase(DatabaseName, DBPassword, 0&)
    objdatabase.Parameters.Add "SERIAL", 0, 2
    objdatabase.Parameters("SERIAL").ServerType = 1
    objdatabase.Parameters.Add "SID", 0, 2
    objdatabase.Parameters("SID").ServerType = 1
    Inputdata = ActiveCell.Value
    RowNo = ActiveCell.Row
    objdatabase.Parameters("SERIAL").Value = Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(RowNo, 13)
    objdatabase.Parameters("SID").Value = Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(RowNo, 12)
    Set OraSqlStmt = objdatabase.CreateSQL("ALTER SYSTEM DISCONNECT SESSION ':SID, :SERIAL' IMMEDIATE;", 0&)
    MsgBox objdatabase.Parameters("SID").Value
    MsgBox objdatabase.Parameters("SERIAL").Value
    objdatabase.Parameters.Remove ("SERIAL")
    objdatabase.Parameters.Remove ("SID")
    End Sub

    on 10gR1/10gR2, you can not use
    ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION ‘115,9779,@1';that start from 11gR1
    Only
    * For integer1, specify the value of the SID column.
    * For integer2, specify the value of the SERIAL# column.
    ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION ‘115,9779';http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10759/statements_2013.htm#SQLRF00902
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_2013.htm#SQLRF00902
    You may use crontab to help ....
    Example about blocking (SID):
    select 'ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION ''' ||sid||','||serial#|| ''' IMMEDIATE;' from gv$session s where sid in (
    select distinct(l1.sid) from
    gv$lock l1, gv$lock l2
    where l1.block = 1 and l2.request > 0
    and l1.id1=l2.id1
    and l1.id2=l2.id2
    ) AND INST_ID = (select INSTANCE_NUMBER from v$instance )and ....

  • How to execute operation system commands by using TSQL without enabling xp_cmdshell.

    Hi Experts
    Looking for advise if one can use operation system commands using TSQL without enabling xp_cmdshell.
    actually using xp_cmdshell requires sysadmin privs which I am unable to provide (directly or using proc) to a user  but the user needs some operating system commands to execute for file manipulation from sql server session. Please share your thought.
    Best Regards
    khalil

    >but the user needs some operating system commands to execute for file manipulation from sql server session
    See article here
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2014/replace-xpcmdshell-command-line-use-with-sql-server-agent/:
    "Problem
    I need to run something from the command-line, but based on best practices xp_cmdshell has been disabled. The task that needs to run is an internal process that will originate from within SQL Server. Is there a way to do this without using xp_cmdshell?
    Solution
    The use of xp_cmdshell is generally frowned upon and is now recommended to be disabled, unless it is absolutely necessary.  There is a solution that works around this restriction via the use of SQL Server Agent.
    Wherever SQL Server is installed, SQL Server Agent is installed with it (except for SQL Express). SQL Server Agent has the ability to run job steps which invoke the command shell. And in the case that the job is owned by a member of the sysadmin fixed server
    role, the job will execute as the service account under which the SQL Server Agent is running. "

    Executing a process is relatively simple. However doing this on a remot system is another matter.

  • How to Execute the row by row sql syntax

    Hello,
    when I execute the below I get the result as attached, how to execute the syntax in each row, Thanks for your help!
    select 'select * into TestSSRS.'+ Table_Name + ' from AdventureWorksDW2008R2.'+ Table_Name FROM [dbo].[Tables_To_Copy]

    Maybe you could store the value of that field in a string variable using a cursor, i expect you dont need to execute this query very often, because using cursor is not always the best option in data sets.
