How to find an ID by some descriptive attribute?

Question

Please consider this situation:
* Two tables: EMP and DEPT (ie. Employees and Departments)
* A ViewObject for EMP
* - attributes Id (PK), DeptId (FK) and DeptName
* - Of course the query for this VO contains a join between the tables EMP and DEPT.
* A datapanel:
* - A JTextField, bound to DeptName
* - A JButton, bound to a DeptId and DeptName LOV

The question is, how can I lookup the appropriate DeptId after filling in a CORRECT DeptName into the textfield? Where do I look for this kind of functionality?

This enhancement is logged for JClient and is marked for implementation for a future release.
The question is, how can I lookup the appropriate DeptId after filling in a CORRECT DeptName into the textfield? Where do I look for this kind of functionality?To get the functionality now, you may:
1. create a second FinderViewObject instance for the same VO.
2. create a ViewCriteria for the viewobject (createViewCriteria)
3. add a viewcritiera row with value for DeptName attribute as the value that was typed into the textfield. If you want this to include search/wild char kind of logic you could also set the value as "LIKE "+textfield.getText() and let the user type in wildchar (* or %).
4. apply the viewcriteria on the finder VO and execute the finder VO.
5. get the first row from finder VO and if a row is fetched, get it's key.
6. find a row with that key in the original Lov VO and set the currency to that row.
(If you only want the LovVO to display just the matching rows, you could even set the viewcriteria on the same VO rather than create a new finder VO).
