How to find block size in OS

I know db_block_size and db_file_multiblock_read_count of Oracle should be multiple of OS(operationg System).
Can anybody suggest me , how can i find out block size in window or Linux.
Thanks in advance
Tinku

$show parameter db_block_size this is the setting from your init.ora file.
This parameter is set at the database creation time and cannot be altered.
In linux system use
dumpe2fs -fh /dev/hdb
to get information about your block size.
In my case it was 4k so my db_block_size will be multiples of 4k.

  • How to find block size of my OS

    Hi I am using redhat 9, I would like to know how to find out my OS block size as I need to give the database block size accordingly...

    I would rather adjust the OS block size to required database block size, not vice versa if possible.
    You can check the FILESYSTEM block size using dumpe2fs command (replace /dev/sda5 with your filesystem blocks device):
    [root@localhost ~]# dumpe2fs /dev/sda5 | grep "Block size"
    dumpe2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
    Block size: 4096
    If you want to know what's the minimum OS block device IO block size (which is not the same thing as filesystem block size), you can do it easily using an Oracle command (if your db is in archivelog mode):
    select block_size from v$archived_log where rownum = 1;

  • Command for "How to find Cursor Size" in Oracle Stored Procedure"

    Hi
    Can u tell me....
    How to find Cursor Size" in Oracle Stored Procedure........
    I want command for that........

    why don't you try select count(*) from your_table;That requires running the same query twice - or rather running two different queries twice. Besides it still doesn't guarantee anything, because Oracle's read consistency model only applies at the statement level (unless you're running in a serialized transaction).
    This is such a common requirement - users are wont to say "well Google does it" - it seems bizarre that Oracle cannot do it. The truth is that that Google cheats. Firstly it guesses the number on the basis of information in its indexes and refines the estimate as pages are returned. Secondly, Google is under no onus to kepp all its data and indexes synchronized - two simultaneous and identical queries which touch different Google servers can return different results. Oracle Text works the same way, which is why we can get a count with CTX_QUERY.COUNT_HITS in estimate mode.

    the sample has a page untitled1 and a bean named test.
    I have run in on jdev 11.1.2 and it is ok, it will be ok on 11.1.3
    after running the sample you will see the 2.
    please remember that you must add the JSTL taglib on the viewcontroller.
    just right click on viewcontroller, go to tag lib select the jstl.

  • How to change block size 32 at installation of oracle

    hey
    i'm going to install aoracle on 64bit windows server 2003. but the problem i'm facing is that i dont know how to change bolck size from 8k to 32k. i usually run setup dan install oracle but during this process it not prompt to change Bolck size. plz help what step i should take in order to successful installtion of oracle 64bit with 32K block size. i tried to find dcoumnet link but every body disscuse the db block size could be change but how i did find anywhere.

    yes you are right but what can i do as per my understanding about the below statement is that i should crerate DSS instead of gernal purpose database plz help what can i do now
    From Bug 5141453, development indicates that DB_BLOCK_SIZE cannot be changed for the General Purpose, Transaction Procession and DataWarehouse templates as the seed database is using 8k block size.
    You should create a custom database to get a different block size.

  • How to find the size (in Mb) of a project in Aperture 3?

    I do not know a quick way to find the size of the originals e versions in a project in Aperture 3.  Would any one know how to do this?
    Tks
    Pedro

    Take a look in the "More Like This" section in the right-hand column for discussions about this.
    The answer is: you can't.  Aperture is not so simply structured that you can select a group of Images and "weigh" them.
    If needed, your easiest solution is to export the Images as a new Library and include the Originals.  The size of that Library is more than but close to the size of the Originals and the Versions.

  • How to find page sizes in a document with multiple page sizes

    Hi Ive been given a document that has multiple page sizes in it how do i find the size of each individual page. i tried document setup but that only brings up the size of the first page

    You are going to do that for each page? You might be better off with using the Preflight panel. "Page size" can be flagged as an error, so you get a nice linked list.

    Try out with the help of this package, which will give out the total bytes, unused bytes, calculate the free bytes from total byes-unused bytes.
    dbms_space.unused_space(
    upper(oname),upper(tbname),upper('TABLE'),

    How often should a database archive its logs
    Re: Redo log size increase and performance
    Please read the above thread and great replies by HJR sir. I think if you wish to get concept knowledge, you should add in your notes.
    "If the FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET parameter is set to limit the instance recovery time, Oracle automatically tries to checkpoint as frequently as necessary. Under this condition, the size of the log files should be large enough to avoid additional checkpointing due to under sized log files. The optimal size can be obtained by querying the OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE column from the V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY view. You can also obtain sizing advice on the Redo Log Groups page of Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control."

  • How to find the size of a file or folder

    How can I find the size of a file or folder?
    I am trying to determine the size of my iPhoto and Mail folder.
    It says "Size: --" under general from Get Info.

    It's working fine...
    When you ask for that info, and Finder presents those '--' dashes instead of a value, actually, Finder is calculating the value in background.
    That's something that i recently noticed and wonder why tha heck he needs to do all that work by himself, kinda re-inventing the wheel of file size value "calculus"...
    I posted some thoughts about it here: File / Folder size... How do Finder gets it?
    Will appreciate feedback about this!
    Props!

  • How to find row size of table

    Hi,
    How can I find row size of a table ?
    In My table has millinon's of data inserted.
    thanks in advance.

    Here is a PL/SQL procedure to calculate average row length. It works, but it has an issue because you cannot use VSIZE on BLOB data columns, and it could be re-done using dbms_lob.getlength(BLOB_COLUMN) to get an accurate average_row_length for rows with a BLOB column..
    To find the actual size of a row I did this:
    /* TABLE */
    select
    3 + avg(nvl(dbms_lob.getlength(CASE_DATA),0)+1 +
    nvl(vsize(CASE_NUMBER ),0)+1 +
    nvl(vsize(CASE_DATA_NAME),0)+1 +
    nvl(vsize(LASTMOD_TIME_T),0)+1
    ) "Total bytes per row"
    from
    arch_case_data
    where
    case_number = 301;
    Total bytes per row
    3424
    /* INDEX */
    select sum(COLUMN_LENGTH)
    from dba_ind_columns
    where TABLE_NAME = 'ARCH_CASE_DATA';
    SUM(COLUMN_LENGTH)
    22
    So, the total bytes used is 3424+22.
