How can i find whether the application is running or not on specific system and port in core java?

By using the JDK's jConsole tool. YOu can connect to any JVM and display all the threads, memory consumption, etc. Just inspect the running threads and show if something blocks.

As I am handling the Solaris 9 Server remotely.
As in last week the server has stopped to respond suddenly, we have tried to ping, ssh which was not working. As ultimately we have asked the Data Centre Team to hard reboot the same, to resolve the issue.
In the same ref I would like to know how we come to know the reason, what caused to reboot the same, i.e . any log file, etc..
I have check /var/adm/messages, but not found any detail for the same.

To get such corefiles analyzed,
you would need to use your service contract and log a support case with Sun.
They have the special software tools to do that.

if it is tomcat 5+, tomcat is most likely started as a service (At least under windows 2000 and higher). So go to control panel -> administrative tools -> services and you can check the status there.

connect as sysdba using sqlplus and you'll get similar banner:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.5.0 - 64bit Production
This shows you are running 64 bit version.
OR
query the v$version (select * from v$version) you'll get the same as above.

How to find out Application from Component

I have a component called FITV_VT_TRIP_DOCUMENT which is called from two applicatons FITV_POWL_TRIP and another one say ABC.
Now i need to know which application is calling the component.
Is there any Class->Method to find out the application name from component.
Or Is there any method to get the browsers URL from that component.

When you pass the Application name you can get the URL (But this can be mapped to external alias also).

How to find out the status of a file in java

Hi
I have an application that writes xml files anytime it is invoked. I am writing all unique files to a windows directory.
i also have an ftp client working on that directory that scans all the files and sends them to the server every few minutes.
I want to find a way using which all the files except the one that is being currently written by the application are transferred.
Is there a way to find out in java as to what file is being written to by the operating system at that point of time ? I have looked around for quite a long time and have not been able to find a solution to this problem.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Actually this is a server that grabs data sent from an Iframe and writes it down to a temp file. I open a file input stream, lock it and then use a printwriter strream to write the realyed data to the file. Any inputs as to what is wrong with the code snippet above?????

How to find out System Status of WBS Elements?

Hi PS Experts!
Please help me on my query.
I want to get a list of WBS elements whose status is Released and can be used.
If I try to search the table PRPS, it can only help me in finding WBS elements without deletion flag, with RA Key and so on.
But the System status (such as Blocked for use) etc. is not present in the table.
The one way I know is to get Object Number of WBS element from PRPS Table and insert it in JEST Table to get system status.
Or alternatively, I give the WBS element no. in CJ20N t-code, and then check for System Status.
These 2 methods work, if I do it one WBS Element at a time. If I need to get thousands of WBS elements in such a fashion, it's tedious.
So could anyone help me on this issue?

Yes, you have put it rather correctly.
We use WBS elements for booking and posting time (client requirement). So what I am looking for is WBS Elements with the system status TERL (Time and Expense Released).
I talked of the deletion flag also, because a WBS element flagged for deletion can't be used. It's one of the criteria to screen the WBS elements.

   How can i change the field values for any workflow record once its set as "Mark As Approved".i.e, once the workflow record is set to "Mark As Approved" the value "abc" should be assigned automatically to the field "category".
Can anybody please suggest me on this...

     Let me explain my requirement clearly.
    I want to assign a value automatically to a particular field say "Category" to "Training" whenever approver approves the workflow record by right-clicking on the selected workflow record and choose Workflow-> Mark As Approved.ie., the value should be assigned automatically when you choose "Mark As Approved".
My doubt is how can i assign a value automatically when its approved ?
As u said how can i trigger a workflow when its approved through Workflows->Mark As Approved.
Please advice me on this..

I got this doubt, when searching logs on the servers. I have 2 WFE's in my farm, I got an error from enduser. So in which WFE server i need to check the logs.
How to configure logs path. Is it is possible to specify logs path on our own instead of 14 hive folder.

That is a really bad idea, especially with idle disconnects and other unreliability of CIFS.
You should instead check out the command
Merge-SPLogFiles which will allow you to combine ULS logs from multiple servers into a single file.
You can certainly specify your own path, but the path must be available on all servers. For example, if you specified D:\Logs, D:\Logs must exist on all SharePoint servers within the farm.

Hi kindly let me know how to find out the status for the programs (like active / inactive).

1. Active and Inactive status is stored in table REPOSRC.
2. Just goto that table in SE11/SE16,
     and enter (copy/paste) the list of your 100 programs.
3. <b>In that there is a field R3STATE
   Where A= Active
             I = Inactive</b>
From there u can filter as per ur requirement.

In the "Shared Services Stupid Trick" blogs, he shows how to find the real access to an application. The side benefit is that it is amusing to read.
In how far this is OK for the licenses is written on another page. You likely need to use the same method as Oracle does. Ask the Salesperson how to do this. (I am curious what his/her reply is).

I am not aware of any spec defined way of finding out such info. There may be vendor specific APIs or mechanisms.
But you can use environment entries in your deployment descriptors to specify the information and make use of the entries inside your j2ee component. That will make your code platform neutral.

How to find out how many concurrent users using web application?

Hi all,
I have a web application deployed using 9iAS. I am trying to find out how to find out how many concurrent users are using this application at any one time. According to Oracle there is no way to see this information using the enterprise manager interface.
Does anybody out there know how I can find out this information in real time? Failing that, are there any good analysis tools out there that display usage to the minute (all the tools I have found show usage by hour which is not sufficent for my needs).
Any help would be much appreciated,

I know I haven't heard of any software to do this, but this also sounds like a really hard problem to try and really analyze well.
The trick is, you might "infer" how long a user is using an application based on when cookies are set and when they're set to expire. If that's a long time, though, that could count far more "concurrent" users than are actually there. A user could simply close the application at any time and stop using the application; you can't really detect that because the server isn't "told" when the user closes their browser or goes somewhere else.
A good perl script might be able to read the Apache access log and tell you how many unique IPs asked for a given directory in which various applications are stored in any 5 minute span of time... that could be something like an indicator of "concurrent" users.
If you don't know Perl, I'd suggest getting the O'Reilly & Associates book on Perl and learning it, because the more I think about this, the more this sounds like a textbook example for applying a Perl script.
