How to finds applications that are still running?

How do I find applications that are running on my computer?  I can't install a new version of Google Drive because I get the message that this application is open.  When I bring up the panel to do a force quit I do not see that application listed.  Once I find the app running how do I quit it?
Thanks for any tips.
Bryan

Use Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities). After opening it, go to View menu (on the menu bar) > All Processes, and quit the processes related to the apps that the installer needs.
Another way is to start up in safe mode by holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting. This allows you to install any application without any problem, as no third-party apps are running

  • How to detect which applications that are currently running

Hi there. Is there a way to detect which applications that are currently running on my machine? Is there a class that can get all of the running applications, you know, like the taskmanager.
    //peter

What you are asking for is indeed not possible through "100% Pure Java," because each operating system that runs Java Virtual Machines can handle the running processes differently (think about the differences between a process scheduler for, say, Windows NT and your Palm Pilot, both of which could have a JVM running).
That means there are essentially 2 avenues to persue for this:
    1. Use an external "user-level" command (like ps on a UNIX-like OS) and parse the results (this is what people are referring to when they say "Runtime.exec()". There have been some nice exec() frameworks posted around here before, so I'd recommend searching around a bit for more info.
I also found this link (from Google) which apparently shows the javadocs where someone has attempted something similarly on the Linux platform before...that's all I know about it:
    http://www.cougaar.org/software/9.2/javadoc/api/org/cougaar/tools/server/system/linux/LinuxProcessStatusReader.html
    2. Use a JNI (Java Native Interface) call to an externally provided C function to get the info you need. Here's a link to the Java 1.4 JNI information:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/jni/
Hope this helps! (But it's not going to be a quick and easy problem to work with)...

  • How can i check that server still running?

    Hi everybody,
How can i check that server still running before sending post?

There are several ways of verifying if server is still running
    1) Through JCMon command line tool on server
Call jcmon as <sid>adm using following command
    jcmon pf=/usr/sap/<sid>SYS/profile/<sid>_<instance>_<host>
jcmon displays the server processes in status "Running" if all applications have started successfully. Otherwise it displays the appropriate status message
    2) Through SAP MMC which again shows the graphical status as Green
    3) On NWDS using J2EE view
    4) If telnet port is enabled on J2EE Engine, then you can remotely check the status of server using telnet command

  • How to detect sessions that are currently running parallel queries?

    Hi everyone,
How to detect session that are currently running parallel queries?
    - The only way i can think of is querying pdml_Status from gv$session?
    - Is there a better way to do this?
    Follow up question:
After detecting sessions that are running parallel queries how do i identify which sessions are slaves of which session?
    thanks!

Start with V$PX_SESSION, however also take a look at V$PQ_* and V$PX_* tables.

  • How to find which devices are still using affected domain controller

    Hi Everyone,
We have a 5 Domain controller's in a Site. And we are going to decommisson one of our affected DC in a site.
Can you please let me know how to find  the log files to see which devices are still using this domain controller.
    Regards,
    Neel kamal
    Neel kamal

    Neel,
From strictly an Active Directory perspective, there is nothing special you need to do to decommission a domain controller in a site.  There are many processes that automatically balance out and recreate connections as needed without any user intervention.
The DC Locator process will automatically direct clients to active domain controllers, there is nothing you need to do here.
What you need to be concerned with are things like the following:
DNS - Are you running AD integrated DNS and is the DC you are decommissioning hosting that roll - if so, is it the ONLY DC in the
site that is running DNS?  You'll need at least one in the site.
DHCP server - Is the DC you are demoting a DHCP server?  You'll need to account for that.
Global Catalog - Is the DC you are demoting a Global Catalog server?  You'll need at least one in the site.
File Shares - Is the DC hosting any files shares?  You'll need to move those and make sure you redirect your clients.
Was this DC a set as a Preferred Bridgehead Server?  You'll need to undo that first.
Those are the big ones that come to mind.  Decommissioning a DC is easy if you have prepared properly.  The others that have replied have offered some great advice which you should follow.  Do your homework and you should be fine.
    Hope that helps

  • How to find jobs that are scheduled.

I am providing backup DBA support for a dba who's out of the office.
There were jobs that were originally scheduled in cron that are no longer there.
I've looked in OEM to see if the jobs were moved and scheduled as events and don't see them.
I've also queried dba_jobs and all_jobs to see if I can find them. No luck.
I know the jobs are scheduled somewhere since they ran last night.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where else I might find these jobs?
    Thanks in advance.

Just for future reference for anyone who may be in the same boat.
The backups I was trying to find are scheduled using Tivoli (TSM) scheduler. There's a text file that the scheduler picks up and reads, then within the AIX shell script is coded to the spcific days for the backups.
So I guess the bottom line is, if you can't find anything in cron, or OEM, ask the system administrators.
    Thanks.

I wonder what the criteria that Apple uses to evaluate the applications that developers submit.

I have an iMac (Mid 2007) Intel with Mac OS Lion 10.7.4  For some reason I am unable to shut down my computer.  The dialogue box says The Finder can’t quit because some operations are still in progress. How do I determine what operations are still running?  I have no clue?  Obviously not a sophisticated user.

Thank You!  Solved my problem.  Have a great week.

I just downloaded the latest version of firefox (5.0). Can I delete all the older versions that are still on my drive?
When I call up some web sites sometimes the web site comes up 3 or 4 times...how do I stop this from happening? For example if I click on a link the exact same link comes up 3 or 4 times and I have to manually delete all of them but one.

Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive.

  • How do I close all the apps that are still open?

How do I close all the apps that are still open?

    You don't need to.
The "task bar" that Demo mentions above is not, in fact, a task bar at all - it is the Recently Used Apps list. Not all of the apps in this list are open, running or in memory.
iOS automatically handles closing apps that are not in use, so you don't have to manually manage them.

    thnx & Regards ,,

    Hi Salman,
Based on your description, we can use Windows Credential Manager to check this. Windows Credential Manager stores credentials, such as user names and passwords  that we use to log on to websites or other computers on a network.
Regarding Credential Manager, the following article can be referred to for more information.

Make sure your browser is closed and check to see if there are any processes related to Acrobat still running. If you are using Windows, Control-Alt-Delete > Processes tab. Look for AcroRd32.exe or Acrobat.exe or Acrotray.exe and stop these processes from running before you try your update again. A good ol' computer reboot might do the trick for you too.

  • How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?

    Hi !
    I'm using LR 5.7.1 on a Mac.
When I've retouched raw pictures with PS CC (and do not need the PSD file any longer) I export the PSD (that is in my catalog) as JPG and let it add to my catalog automatically. After that I delete the PSD file. That works fine.
But .... the new JPG file is not assigned to any collection. That's no problem unless I forget to do it manually after that export (and import).
That brings me to my question.
How can I find photos that are not assigned to any collection?
I tried it with a smart collection after I found nothing suitable in library filter. The search criteria I tried are Source -> Collection with any of the conditions. One with an empty value field, then with just a space and so on.
Has anybody a good hint for me?
    Thomas

You can also add numbers if you have collections that don't use alphabet characters.

I have an old (first generation) iMac that I still use sometimes for the applications that are on it. I was using it yesterday and unfortunately had a power cut. I went to turn it on today, and nothing at all happens. It's as though no power is getting to it. I've checked the obvious things, changed the fuse, tried different cables, poked paperclips in reset holes, but nothing doing. I wonder if there is anyone who knows what might be wrong. I was hoping to get some of its content transferred soon, but I'm guessing that can't be done if it can't be started up. Many thanks, if you can help

    Hello,
    >It's as though no power is getting to it.
Would it be correct to assume that no sounds at all can be heard? Also, no lights, not even green or amber at the power button?
    >unfortunately had a power cut.
Was it possibly a power cut in connection with a thunderstorm? Any other evidence of higher than normal voltages (light bulbs, et cetera)? Has the line voltage been checked (measured with an appropriate voltmeter/multimeter)?
If necessary, it would be possible to remove the hard drive, and then connect it to an external IDE/ATA to USB adapter (example below). That way you could gain access to files on the hard disk from another computer.
