How to get method documentation?

I use DOCU_GET to read the class documentation:

There are other posts about this out there but as far as information in the released documentation it is kinda vague as to the fact that you can simply put any data type there. The definition states "Data type that can hold any defined type of data" But I can see the confusion that you don't have to actually convert it to a variant first. Generally you do have to convert it first. However some TestStand functions will allow any datatype and convert it for you.
Jon is going to create a Knowledge Base regarding this information and hopefully alleviate some of the pain for others in the future.

How can I implement a get method that lets me divide two values, Help plz

I need to implement a method that divides the values return by two other methods but I keep getting an error message, I think its divide by zero error ( I am not too sure on the exact error msg as I do not have java installed on this pc as yet), here is my example,
I have two get methods that take an int value so say
getValueOne() as method one
getValueTwo() as method two
Now I have a third method that does the following,
Public int getValueThree() {
int value =0;
value = (getValueOne() / getValueTwo())
return value;
I am not two sure on the exact code but it does something like this and I get an error. Could someone please guide me how I can successfully implement a get method that divides two values that are returned by two methods.

And you are right there are some values that are zero! I am not very sure what throwing an exception means to be honest. Could you please give an example?

How to get the old selection in ListSelectionListener valueChanged() method

Hi,
Is anyone know how to get the old selection index/value in the ListSelectionListener valueChanged() method? The list.selectedValue() always return the same value which is the new selection. The ListSelectionEvent.getFirstIndex() and getLastIndex are always firstIndex <= lastIndex so that you cant' tell which one is the old selection.
Please help and thanks!

Just test the two indexes (first and last): if the corresponding row is selected, then the other is unselected. That gives you the old (unselected) and new (selected) item.
Of course, I have supposed that you were using a SINGLE_SELECTION model...

You keep track of every change to the database by keeping the old data. There are three ways:
1. Each table has a version number/delete flag for each record. A record is never updated nor deleted. Instead a new record is created with a new version number and with the new data.
2. Each table has a duplicate table which has all of the same columns. When the first table is modified the old data is moved to the duplicate table.
3. A single table is used which has columns for 'table', 'field', 'data' and 'activity' (update, delete). When a change is made in any table then this table is updated. This is generally of limited useability due to the difficulty in recovering the data.
All of the above can have a user id, timestamp, and/or additional information which is relevant to the data being changed.
Note that ALL of this is persisted storage.
I am not sure what this really has to do with "offline storage" unless you are using that term to refer to backed up data which is not readily available.

Ned, thanks for responding. Internet access is not the problem, I will have a tower computer connected to Comcast.
Isolating the laptop from the internet is the issue.

By saying that your data comes in through Inbound Plug itself means that that is the point of access for the data. If there is some standard data, that you can provide through WDDOINIT (e.g. initilizations) but in case of navigation, plugs and events are the only way to send data.

How to get the errors thrown during SwingWorkes-doInBackground-method

Hi,
I got an annoying problem.
I use a SwingWorker to do some operations in background...
Now it could be, that some of those operations throw an exception...
but the SwingWorker do not throw those...
The only exception i get is a final Exception cause of an object who
wants to display the result of the background activity...
In detail : a method done in background throws an index out of bounds exception
but how i can get this error?
I try to surround the swing worker object with a try and catch for general exceptions but
this don't work.

There are two things you can do. First, you might wrap the code in doInBackground() in try/catch. I'd discourage this since it will make your code more complicated. Secondly, if an exception occurs, the SwingWorker will switch its state to 'done'. If you invoke the get() method (even if you're returning null in doInBackground()), an ExecutionException will be risen. Using Exception#getCause(), you will get the original exception that occured, in your case the ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException.

So please take some time and describe the problem as if you would ask your mother for help. Tell us how the data model is build and how the VO are related. Is there any input from an user involved? Which information from the other view do you need? How do you get to the doDML method? Is there a button in the ui involved?

Thanks for your help, could you please look into my requirement.
For all inspection characteristics listed in the selected COA profile, I have to retrieve the Inspection Method for all listed inspection characteristics. And also I have to retrieve the characteristic value(uncertainty). Additionally, for inspection characteristics that are quantitative, being checked, the characteristic value(uncertainty) from that Inspection method will be retrieved from class 3050_UNCERTAINTY, class type 006, characteristic, P2150_UNCERTAINTY.
Please help me out.

How to get the Class name of an API method?

Like most of us, it's difficult to know where every method within a Java class is. Also, many of the same methods are scattered throughout Java Classes. I know of two methods that retreive this... getClass().getName(). But, you must have an object to use these. Is there a way to find out what Class contains a method or Class variable thru an Applet or Java Application?? Obviously, I can look at API Docs; but this takes time.

I am working a already existing Java Swing project, now I got a problem, in a method I need to get the caller object reference otherwise, I can't succeed this operation. So please tell me a way how to get the caller object reference from a method. that method would be static or regular method anything will do for me.
