What causes this and how do I get rid of it?

From the Safari menu bar, select

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

how the hell you managed to get rid of the ads placeholder in the top of your chat view ?

The ads should not be shown immediately after you added the Skype credit t your account and changed conversation windows. Did the ads persists even after  you restarted Skype?
UPDATE: Just saw that you alreayd stated that the ads persisted even after restart. You shouldn't see ads after adding Skype credits.
Are you sure you used the same Skype account that you purchase the credit for in the Skype application?
Do you recall that you saw the Skype credits shown in your Skype user interface?
If you indeed used the same account you purchase Skype credit for it would be a very bad bug For me this doesn't reproduce though: My account with credits doesn't shown ads in Skype.

  • How to get rid of cinema   ads off mac

I downloaded something that now places a little green icon next to words and says "Ads by Cinema +"  How do I get rid of this? Thank you!

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • Need help!!! how to get rid of ads (pop under)

i need help! does anyone know how to get rid of popunder ads! doesn't matter how...i just want them gone!

The simple answer is to avoid the sort of trashy website that serves such ads. The complicated answer is to disable JavaScript when visiting those sites, or to install ad-blocking software such as GlimmerBlocker.

  • How do I get rid of the ads that pop up down the side of outlook

    Hi There,
I would like to know how to get rid the ads that appear down the right side of Outlook. They are annoying.

    Hello,
There are add-ons that will block ads for you: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Add-ons for Firefox].
Try something like [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ Adblock Plus].

If you are seeing ads that are not normal for the sites you are visiting, you probably either have adware installed or you are on a compromised network. See my Adware Removal Guide for help identifying and fixing the problem.

  • How am I able to get rid of Goproit ads, is Goproit a virus?

I have been experiencing problems with ads from Goproit on safari, they are a huge nuisance and I don't know how to get rid of it. Is it a virus or something I can just delete from my mac?

    You mean GoPhoto.it?
It's not a virus and you don't need to download or install anything to get rid of it.
If you are only using Safari, simply uninstall it. Use the Safari menu > Preferences... > Extensions.
If you are using Chrome, perform whatever action is equivalent to the above.
    If you are using Firefox:
Select the entire line that follows (triple-click to select it), then control-click, and from the contextual menu that appears, select Services > Open:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Extensions
Look for a folder with a name consisting of many random letters and numbers within a pair of { } - those are braces. Drag it to the Trash.
For an explanation or how GoPhoto may have come to be installed on your Mac, and how to avoid doing that in the future, read How to install adware.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of tlb search? It unfortunately entered into my mac. Whenever I use safari, a pop-up window opens with some ads. Please help me to find a way to remove this malware.

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

In PSE 10 you can click on Settings on the welcome screen and choose your preference. In earlier versions it’s best to make a desktop shortcut.

  • Why are there ads in games that I have purchased?  Can I get rid of these ads?

Why are there ads in my games that I have purchased.  How do I get rid of the ads?

The developer participates in the ad program to provide income, usually in exchange for offering the application for free or at a low price. Some developers offer an ad-free version of the app at a higher price, so you might look for that possibility.  If they only offer a single version, though, then you're stuck with the ads, though you can urge the developer to offer an ad-free version as well.
    Regards.

  • How to get rid of malware on Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro with the OS X Yosemite. My computer has malware on it. I keep getting popups and ads on my screen, whether I'm using Safari or Chrome. One of the popups says "Suspicious activity found on your computer, due to pop-up advertisement windows and invasive links. Please contact tech support at 1-866-215-6348." I want to know how to get rid of this malware. Thanks in advance.

Some are persistent. Force quit Safari again. Disconnect from the Internet by either turning off Wi-Fi in the System Preferences, or unplugging the Ethernet cable from your router/modem. Hold the Shift key and launch Safari again. If the same popup appears, you will be able to dismiss it and navigate away from the page, or close its tab. Reconnect to the Internet.
Though reading your initial post again, it's sounding more like JimmyCMPIT is correct since you're seeing ads in multiple browsers. It's just rare for one the ads that pops up to be like one of the tech support scams.
In which case, you can either follow Apple's manual instructions for removing adware, or use the free automated tool, AdwareMedic (as mentioned by, and linked to by Jimmy).
It should be noted that Apple's manual removal instructions are typically outdated. Sometimes a lot outdated. It depends on when Apple last updated their instructions page. If you would prefer to manually remove the adware on your system, you can find much more up-to-date instructions on The Safe Mac's adware removal page.

I have a new iPhone 5S.  While trying to learn about it, I accidentally recorded a voice memo with no content.  I cannot now figure out how to get rid of it.  There is a banner across the top of my phone with this memo which I don't want.  I have deleted it from iTunes but cannot get it off the phone.  Help!

The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.
